Cursing is considered an unwelcome act and is deemed impolite to society. However, it is seen that cursing behavior has become commonplace in human life. What functions do the forbidden words have in the life of the individual? If cursing is just an expression of aggression, how and why can it make you laugh? This study aims to understand why cursing produced from taboo words is perceived as funny by focusing on the relationship between profanity and humor. In this direction, a descriptive research model was used, and it was aimed to determine the place of cursing in human behavior by trying to answer the question of how banned words are acquired in the developmental process. In addition, the functions of cursing in the individual's life and his interaction with other people were touched on, and the motivations for using the words prohibited by society were tried to be understoFinally, the answer to why some swear words are perceived as funny was sought through the common denominators between cursing and humor. In this process, it has been determined that swear words undertake various functions in human life, and one of these functions is to produce strangeness and open the door to humor. The following explains under which conditions and how an offensive act such as cursing serves the purpose of entertainment.
