Causes and consequences of tipping points in river delta social-ecological systems.

The sustainability of social-ecological systems within river deltas globally is in question as rapid development and environmental change trigger "negative" or "positive" tipping points depending on actors' perspectives, e.g. regime shift from abundant sediment deposition to sediment shortage, agricultural sustainability to agricultural collapse or shift from rural to urban landuse. Using a systematic review of the literature, we show how cascading effects across anthropogenic, ecological, and geophysical processes have triggered numerous tipping points in the governance, hydrological, and land-use management of the world's river deltas. Crossing tipping points had both positive and negative effects that generally enhanced economic development to the detriment of the environment. Assessment of deltas that featured prominently in the review revealed how outcomes of tipping points can inform the long-term trajectory of deltas towards sustainability or collapse. Management of key drivers at the delta scale can trigger positive tipping points to place social-ecological systems on a pathway towards sustainable development.

The field of information security covers a wide range of technical, organizational and social aspects, requiring information security specialists to take a unique and comprehensive approach to the development, support, operation, evaluation and improvement of information security management systems. An important element of successful information protection is the accurate identification and assessment of risks and vulnerabilities that may become a source of threats. In existing publications, as a rule, it is assumed that specialists have the necessary experience and knowledge to conduct risk analysis. However, in the dynamic world of information technology and threats, an information security specialist faces a huge amount of information and potential risks that are constantly evolving. Because of this, it is an impossible task to keep in mind all kinds of threats to information security. 
 The purpose is to identify actual problems of information security, potentially acting as sources of information security risk, based on the method of systematic review of the literature. Results: 73 actual problems of information security have been identified, which an information security specialist should take into account in his activities. Understanding these issues makes it possible to develop more effective protection strategies, as well as to make informed and informed decisions when developing and applying security measures.

Breast Implant Illness (BII) As a Clinical Entity: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Abstract Goals/Purpose Breast implant illness (BII) has become a contentious subject in recent years, raising concerns among both patients and healthcare professionals. While some studies have reported associations between breast implants and autoimmune diseases, others have failed to establish a definitive link. Therefore, the objective of this systematic review is to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the existing literature with a specific emphasis on identifying any symptom or patient patterns to critically evaluate the existence of BII as a distinct entity. Methods/Technique A comprehensive search of relevant published studies up until 2023 was conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed and MEDLINE. A total of 31 studies met inclusion criteria in our analysis. To qualify for inclusion, studies had to focus on breast implant illness and associated systemic symptoms. Two reviewers independently assessed the abstracts, manuscripts, and extracted data from the selected papers. From the included studies, cohort size, reason for implantation, mean age, implant type, implant texture, plane of implant placement, mean follow-up time, implant explantation status, time to implant explantation, symptom resolution after explantation, infections, and complications were extracted. Descriptive statistics was used where appropriate. Results/Complications The mean age of patients was 44.2 ± 9.30 years for all studies included. For studies that included length of time between implant exposure and onset of clinical symptoms (9/31; 29.0%), the mean time from implant or biomaterial exposure to onset of clinical symptoms of BII was 13.4 ± 2.92 years. Fourteen (14/31; 45.2%) studies reported implant explantation status with 60% of the total patient population choosing to remove their implants. Among these, 9 studies reported symptom improvement in 657 patients (83.5%) from a total of 788 patients undergoing implant explantation. Eight studies (8/31; 25.8%) reported whether patients experiencing BII related symptoms were in the cosmetic or reconstructive group. Patients in the cosmetic cohort (899/1005; 89.5%) experienced significantly more BII-related symptoms compared to patients in the reconstructive cohort (213/352; 60.5%) (p < 0.001). Conclusion This systematic review provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge regarding BII. While the literature offers valuable insights into the potential associations and outcomes related to BII, there are several limitations stemming from heterogeneity in study designs, patient populations, and reporting practices. Our study highlights a relationships between BII and indication for implants (cosmetic vs. reconstructive), infection, and explantation, among other variables, offering valuable directions for future research.

Molecular Role of HIV-1 Human Receptors (CCL5-CCR5 Axis) in neuroAIDS: A Systematic Review.

Chronic HIV-1 infection can cause neurological illness, also known as HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND). The elevated level of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, such as C-C Chemokine Ligand 5 (CCL5/RANTES), is one of the ways of causing HIV-1-mediated neuroinflammation. C-C Chemokine Receptor 5 (CCR5) is the main coreceptor for viral entry into host cells and for mediating induction of CCL5/RANTES. CCR5 and CCL5 are part of a correlated axis of immune pathways used for effective protection against the HIV-1 virus. The purpose of this paper was to review the literary knowledge about the immunopathological relationship between this immune complex and neuroAIDS. A systematic review of the literature was conducted based on the selection and search of articles, available in English, Spanish, or Portuguese in the time frame of 1990-2022, of primary and secondary types in the PUBMED, Science Direct, SciELO, and LILACS databases through descriptors (MeSH) together with "AND": "CCR5"; "CCL5"; "neurological manifestations"; or "HIV". The methodological quality of the articles was assessed using the JBI Checklists and the PRISMA 2020 writing guidelines were followed. A total of 36 articles were included in the final composition of the review. The main cells of the CNS affected by neuroAIDS are: neurons; microglia; astrocytes; and oligodendrocytes. Molecular devices and their associations with cellular injuries have been described from the entry of the virus into the host's CNS cell to the generation of mental disorders. Furthermore, divergent results were found about the levels of CCL5/RANTES secretion and the generation of immunopathogenesis, while all condensed research for CCR5 indicated that elevation of this receptor causes more neurodegenerative manifestations. Therefore, new therapeutic and interventional strategies can be conditioned on the immunological direction proposed in this review for the disease.

The Social and Biomedical Hurdles Associated with COVID-19: Eclectic Contexts

Abstract The advent of COVID-19 continues to present social and biomedical challenges that this article endeavors to explore through a systematic critical review of the literature. The article has also benefited from the researchers’ intuition and experiences they have acquired from investigating trends of SARS-CoV-2 virus dynamics. It has also benefited from engaging in informal conversations with researchers and lay people interested in addressing the myriad challenges posed by COVID-19. Findings have generated the following thematic discussions: stigma and stigmatization surrounding the disease, skewed global response, gender disparity, human rights dynamics, vaccine dynamics and dilemmas, and poverty associated with coronavirus advent. The article concludes by recognizing both biomedical and socioeconomic implications and the emerging social disparities and unequal access to pharmacotherapeutics.

Splenic Embolism in Infective Endocarditis: A Systematic Review of the Literature with an Emphasis on Radiological and Histopathological Diagnoses.

Infective endocarditis (IE) is characterised by fever, heart murmurs, and emboli. Splenic emboli are frequent in left-sided IE. A systematic review of the literature published on splenic embolism (SE) between 2000 and 2023 was conducted. Search strategies in electronic databases identified 2751 studies published between 1 January 2000 and 4 October 2023, of which 29 were finally included. The results showed that the imaging tests predominantly used to detect embolisms were computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography (PET)/CT, single-photon emission computed tomography/CT, ultrasound, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound. More recent studies typically used 18F-FDG PET-CT. The proportion of SE ranged from 1.4% to 71.7%. Only seven studies performed systematic conventional CT screening for intra-abdominal emboli, and the weighted mean frequency of SE was 22% (range: 8-34.8%). 18F-FDG PET-CT was performed systematically in seven studies, and splenic uptake was found in a weighted mean of 4.5%. There was a lack of uniformity in the published literature regarding the frequency and management of splenic embolisation. CT scans were the most frequently used method, until recently, when 18F-FDG PET-CT scans began to predominate. More data are necessary regarding the frequency of SE, especially focusing on their impact on IE management and prognosis.

Trapeziometacarpal Dislocations in Pediatric Age, Is There a Better Treatment? Series of Cases and a Systematic Review.

(1) Background: Dislocations of the trapeziometacarpal joint (TMC) are uncommon in children and adolescents. Only a few isolated cases are reported in the literature. Therapeutic guidance is minimal and inconclusive. (2) Methods: The authors present four patients treated for this unusual lesion. We evaluated the evolution according to treatment, age, patient activity, and quickDASH. Despite the clear limitation of the small number of patients, it is relevant to try to better understand this lesion and its evolution. A systematic review of the literature was also conducted. (3) Results: This is the largest published series of TMC dislocations in children and adolescents. Patients included a 12-year-old girl treated conservatively with a poor quickDASH; a 9-year-old girl treated surgically with the Eaton-Littler technique for a new dislocation with a partially modified quickDASH; a 13-year-old boy with two necessary closed reductions for a new dislocation and a very good final quickDASH; and a 12-year-old boy treated with closed reduction and percutaneous fixation with excellent final results with quickDASH. (4) Conclusions: In the absence of scientific evidence, conservative treatment and ligament reconstruction did not provide good functionality. In contrast, closed reduction with percutaneous fixation provided excellent results. Therefore, the authors would recommend closed reduction and percutaneous needle fixation as an elective method to treat TMC dislocations in pediatric and adolescent patients.

Assessing teachers' intervention-related expectations and self-efficacy: An examination of the factor structure of the implementation beliefs assessment.

Individual-level determinants are hypothesized to enable or prevent successful implementation of evidence-based practices, yet there are limited options for measuring theory-informed, individual-level determinants that influence teachers' and other implementers' delivery of school-based interventions. The goal of this study was to develop a self-report scale that measures variables that have been associated with initial and sustained behavior change related to school-based intervention implementation according to the health action process approach (HAPA). Participants were a nationally representative sample of kindergarten through Grade 12 public school teachers, stratified by grade level and geographical region. Item generation was based on a systematic review of the literature on outcome expectations and self-efficacy, the core constructs related to initiating and sustaining behavior change from the HAPA and in consultation with the theory developer. The sample was randomly split; half of the sample was used for exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and the other half was used for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The EFA resulted in a final factor structure of three dimensions of the Implementation Beliefs Assessment (IBA): (a) implementation self-efficacy, (b) positive outcome expectations, and (c) negative outcome expectations. This structure was supported in the other half of the sample using CFA. Additional analyses supported the reliability of IBA data. The IBA represents a step forward toward psychometrically sound measurement of factors associated with initial and sustained behavior change. Implications for future research are discussed. Berberine Effects in Pre-Fibrotic Stages of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease-Clinical and Pre-Clinical Overview and Systematic Review of the Literature.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the predominant cause of chronic liver conditions, and its progression is marked by evolution to non-alcoholic steatosis, steatohepatitis, cirrhosis related to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and the potential occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma. In our systematic review, we searched two databases, Medline (via Pubmed Central) and Scopus, from inception to 5 February 2024, and included 73 types of research (nine clinical studies and 64 pre-clinical studies) from 2854 published papers. Our extensive research highlights the impact of Berberine on NAFLD pathophysiology mechanisms, such as Adenosine Monophosphate-Activated Protein Kinase (AMPK), gut dysbiosis, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR), Sirtuins, and inflammasome. Studies involving human subjects showed a measurable reduction of liver fat in addition to improved profiles of serum lipids and hepatic enzymes. While current drugs for NAFLD treatment are either scarce or still in development or launch phases, Berberine presents a promising profile. However, improvements in its formulation are necessary to enhance the bioavailability of this natural substance.

Resveratrol and male infertility: a systematic review of the literature.

The aim of this study is to provide an updated and comprehensive systematic review on the effects of resveratrol (RSV) in male infertility and sperm preservation. This systematic review followed the MOOSE guidelines for Meta-analyses and Systematic Reviews of Observational Studies and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P). Only original articles evaluating the effect of RSV on human spermatozoa in vivo or in vitro were included. Of the 1806 abstracts evaluated for eligibility, only 12 studies were included in the qualitative synthesis, of which three were prospective in-vivo studies and nine were in-vitro studies. Out of three human studies on RSV, only two studies administered RSV alone, one of them reported a positive impact and the other reported no significant impact on semen parameters. Overall, the in-vitro studies have reported the ability of RSV to protect spermatozoa against damage due to freeze-thaw cycles during cryopreservation. Other in-vitro studies have reported positive effects of RSV in fresh samples and protective effects in cell lines. Available in-vivo studies are controversial with regard to the effect of RSV in improving semen parameters. In-vitro studies support the use of RSV before sperm cryopreservation. Further well-designed prospective studies on large sample sizes are needed to fully understand the role of RSV in the treatment of male infertility in vivo.

Management and Outcomes of Facial Nerve Hemangiomas: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Objectives: To conduct a systematic review of facial nerve hemangiomas (FNH), focusing on patient characteristics, management options, and treatment outcomes. Design: A systematic review was performed following PRISMA guidelines, utilizing PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Cochrane databases from inception to December 31st, 2022. Setting: Literature sourced from various databases providing information on FNH cases. Participants: A total of 176 patients with FNH were included in the study, identified from 40 articles meeting inclusion criteria. Main Outcome Measures: Patient demographics, lesion characteristics, pre-operative symptoms, surgical approaches, and post-operative outcomes, including House-Brackmann (HB) Grades. Results: Among the 1682 initially identified articles, 40 were included in the final review. From these, a total of 176 patients (mean age=42.7±12.8, 51.1% male) were included for analysis. Bivariate analysis showed that patients with longer pre-operative symptom duration and facial nerve sacrifice had significantly greater post-operative HB Grades (p<.001). Additionally, a strong positive correlation was observed between pre- and post-operative HB Grades (Spearman’s rho=.649). Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that both facial nerve sacrifice (β=0.86, 95%CI:0.38-1.34;p<.001) and greater pre-operative HB Grades (β=0.36,95% CI:0.20-0.53;p<.001) were associated with significantly greater post-operative HB Grades, but pre-operative symptom duration did not persist as a significant predictor of post-operative HB Grades. Conclusions: Facial nerve hemangiomas are rare lesions of the skull base affecting the temporal bone. Our findings highlight the role of pre-operative facial nerve function and intraoperative preservation of the facial nerve in predicting post-operative outcomes. Timely resection of lesions that prioritizes facial nerve preservation is critical to achieving optimal patient outcomes.

Characterization of the oral microbiota and the relationship of the oral microbiota with the dental and periodontal status in children and adolescents with nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate. Systematic literature review and meta-analysis

ObjectiveTo identify the characteristics of the oral microbiota and the relationship of the dental caries and periodontal status in patients aged 0 to 18 years with non-syndromic cleft lip and palate (CLP).Materials and methodsA systematic review of the literature was carried out. Five databases were consulted, including publications in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The evaluations of the quality of the observational studies and the experimental studies were carried out with the Newcastle–Ottawa scale and CONSORT guidelines, respectively. The risk of bias of the studies was determined using Rev Manager 5.4, and 5 publications were meta-analyzed.ResultsThe cariogenic microbiota of children and adolescents with cleft lip and palate was similar to that of children without clefts, although with higher counts of Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus spp. The periodontopathogenic microbiota was related to the presence of Campylobacter spp, Fusobacterium spp, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Prevotella intermedia/nigrescens, Parvimonas micra and Porphyromonas gingivalis, considered microorganisms with high pathogenic capacity. Heterogeneity was shown in relation to the microbiota and the type of fissure, presenting numerous microorganisms associated with the pre- and post-surgical condition (cheilorrhaphy and palatorrhaphy) such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus beta hemolyticus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella oxytoca, Moraxella catarrhalis, Candida spp, Candida albicans, Candida krusei and Candida tropicalis. The meta-analysis revealed that patients with cleft lip and palate were 2.03 times more likely to have caries than the control group (p<0.005).ConclusionIn the microbiota, there was a great diversity of microorganisms that can vary according to the type of fissure and surgical interventions predisposing patients to a greater probability of dental caries, it is important to take into account the technique used to describe the oral microbiota in order to be able to compare the different studies.Clinical relevanceStudying the microbiota and the relationship of dental caries and periodontal status in children and adolescents with cleft lip and palate can facilitate the comprehensive care of patients with these conditions.

[Comprehensive literature review on the application of the otological-surgical planning software OTOPLAN® for cochlear implantation. German version].

The size of the human cochlear, measured by the diameter of the basal turn, varies between 7 and 11 mm. For hearing rehabilitation with cochlear implants (CI), the size of the cochlear influences the individual frequency map and the choice of electrode length. OTOPLAN® (CAScination AG [Bern, Switzerland] in cooperation with MED-EL [Innsbruck, Austria]) is asoftware tool with CE marking for clinical applications in CI treatment which allows for precise pre-planning based on cochlear size. This literature review aims to analyze all published data on the application of OTOPLAN®. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were applied to identify relevant studies published in the PubMed search engine between January 2015 and February 2023 using the search terms "otoplan" [title/abstract] OR "anatomy-based fitting" [title/abstract] OR "otological software tool" [title/abstract] OR "computed tomography-based software AND cochlear" [title/abstract]. The systematic review of the literature identified 32studies on clinical use of OTOPLAN® in CI treatment. Most studies were reported from Germany (7out of 32), followed by Italy(5), Saudi Arabia(4), the USA(4), and Belgium(3); 2studies each were from Austria and China, and 1study from France, India, Norway, South Korea, and Switzerland. In the majority of studies(22), OTOPLAN® was used to assess cochlear size, followed by visualizing the electrode position using postoperative images(5), three-dimensional segmentation of temporal bone structures(4), planning the electrode insertion trajectory(3), creating apatient-specific frequency map(3), planning of asafe drilling path through the facial recess(3), and measuring of temporal bone structures(1). To date, OTOPLAN® is the only DICOM viewer with CE marking in the CI field that can process pre-, intra-, and postoperative images in the abovementioned applications.

Engagement in Distance Healthcare Simulation Debriefing: A Concept Development and Framework.

Understanding distance health care simulation debriefing is crucial in light of the increased use of and emerging technology in remote education for reasons of accessibility, global collaboration, and continuous professional development. This article is a confluence of a number of previously published studies designed to serve as a foundation to develop the concept of "engagement in health care distance simulation debriefing" using the Schwartz-Barcott & Kim hybrid mixed methods model. The model uses 3 phases: theoretical (a realist systematic review of the literature), fieldwork (3 exploratory studies and 2 pilot experimental studies), and analytical (analysis of the theoretical and fieldwork findings through expert discussion). This study defines the concept of "engagement in health care simulation distance debriefing" through exploration of its uses and analysis in literature, interviews, and expert review. The hybrid approach to the analysis provided rigor to generate a new, reflective conceptual model. This conceptual model defines the complexity in engagement during distance debriefing and helps shape the development of simulationists and debriefers, leading to more effective distance simulations and debriefings.

Return to Golf After Hip Arthroscopy: A Systematic Review of the Literature.

Patients experiencing pain from femoral acetabular impingement and considering hip arthroscopy may be concerned about their timeline to resume activities they enjoy, such as golf. The purpose of this study was to review current literature on return-to-play data after hip arthroscopy and to provide clinicians with data to set proper expectations with patients. The following terms were used to search PubMed and Embase electronic databases on October 18, 2023: hip, arthroscopy, arthroscopic, golf. Studies were included if they were in the English language, of Level 1 to 4 evidence, and contained data specific to golfers undergoing hip arthroscopy. Studies were excluded if they did not designate participants as golfers or did not specify return-to-play data. Editorials, case reports, and review articles were excluded. Screening was completed by 2 authors in a blind and duplicate manner. Systematic review. Level II. The following datapoints were extracted from each study: hip pathology and arthroscopic procedure data; number of players returning to golf and time from surgery to return; outcome score(s); and rehabilitation details. Descriptive statistics were calculated using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. The search returned 400 studies, of which 4 were included for analysis. Of these 4 studies, 2 specified return-to-play time. Of 95 golfers, 90 (94.7%) returned to golf successfully after arthroscopic hip surgery. Subjective and objective outcome scores improved postoperatively, including an increased average drive distance. Return to golf after hip arthroscopy is highly probable, with approximately 95% of patients throughout literature returning to play. A mean return time of 4.7 months for professional golfers and 7.2 months for amateurs, alongside improved subjective outcomes and performance metrics postsurgery, suggest patients can expect a relatively quick return to the course with similar or improved performance.

ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION AND DYSLIPIDEMIA IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS: RISK FACTORS, INTERVENTION STRATEGIES AND IMPACT ON CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH.

Arterial Hypertension (AH) and Dyslipidemia are conditions frequently associated with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2), significantly increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality. The interrelationship of these metabolic risk factors becomes a growing concern due to their increasing prevalence and the serious complications they entail. AH, characterized by high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia, marked by abnormal levels of lipids in the blood, are modifiable risk factors that play central roles in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular complications of DM2. Effective intervention strategies to manage these conditions are essential to reduce cardiovascular risk in this population. Objective: To carry out a systematic review of the literature to evaluate the risk factors, intervention strategies and impact on cardiovascular health of the coexistence of AH and dyslipidemia in patients with DM2. Methodology: A search was carried out in the PubMed, Scielo and Web of Science databases for articles published in the last 10 years. The descriptors used were "arterial hypertension", "dyslipidemia", "type 2 diabetes mellitus", "cardiovascular risk factors" and "intervention". Inclusion criteria: studies that investigated the relationship between AH, dyslipidemia and DM2, therapeutic interventions for these conditions and their impact on cardiovascular health. Exclusion criteria: studies focusing exclusively on DM1, non-systematic reviews and studies with heterogeneous samples unrelated to the topic. Results: The studies reviewed highlighted the association between AH, dyslipidemia and DM2, emphasizing the importance of glycemic, lipid and blood pressure control to reduce cardiovascular risk. Multifaceted interventions, including lifestyle modifications and pharmacological therapies, have been effective in improving cardiovascular outcomes in this population. Conclusion: The integrated approach to hypertension and dyslipidemia in patients with DM2 is crucial to prevent cardiovascular complications. Personalized intervention strategies based on solid scientific evidence are critical to improving health outcomes in this high-risk population.

Morphological Differentiation of Corneal Inflammatory Cells: Proposal of Pragmatic Protocol.

Corneal confocal microscopy is a noninvasive imaging technique to analyze corneal nerve fibers and corneal inflammatory cells (CICs). The amount of CICs is a potential biomarker of disease activity in chronic autoinflammatory diseases. To date, there are no standardized criteria for the morphological characterization of CICs. The aim was to establish a protocol for a standardized morphological classification of CICs based on a literature search and to test this protocol for applicability and reliability. A systematic review of the literature about definitions of CICs was conducted. Existing morphological descriptions were translated into a structured algorithm and applied by raters. Subsequently, the protocol was optimized by reducing and defining the criteria of the cell types. The optimized algorithm was applied by 4 raters. The interrater reliability was calculated using Fleiss kappa (K). A systematic review of the literature revealed no uniform morphological criteria for the differentiation of the individual cell types in CICs. Our first protocol achieved only a low level of agreement between 3 raters (K = 0.09; 1062 rated cells). Our revised protocol was able to achieve a higher interrater reliability with 3 (K = 0.64; 471 rated cells) and 4 (K = 0.61; 628 rated cells) raters. The indirect use of criteria from the literature leads to a high error rate. Comparing Business, Innovation, and Platform Ecosystems: A Systematic Review of the Literature.

In recent decades, the term "ecosystem" has garnered substantial attention in scholarly and managerial discourse, featuring prominently in academic and applied contexts. While individual scholars have made significant contributions to the study of various types of ecosystem, there appears to be a research gap marked by a lack of comprehensive synthesis and refinement of findings across diverse ecosystems. This paper systematically addresses this gap through a hybrid methodology, employing bibliometric and content analyses to systematically review the literature from 1993 to 2023. The primary research aim is to critically examine theoretical studies on different ecosystem types, specifically focusing on business, innovation, and platform ecosystems. The methodology of this study involves a content review of the identified literature, combining quantitative bibliometric analyses to differentiate patterns and content analysis for in-depth exploration. The core findings center on refining and summarizing the definitions of business, innovation, and platform ecosystems, shedding light on both commonalities and distinctions. Notably, the research unveils shared characteristics such as openness and diversity across these ecosystems while highlighting significant differences in terms of participants and objectives. Furthermore, the paper delves into the interconnections within these three ecosystem types, offering insights into their dynamics and paving the way for discussions on future research directions. This comprehensive examination not only advances our understanding of business, innovation, and platform ecosystems but also lays the groundwork for future scholarly inquiries in this dynamic and evolving field.

Technology and sexual abuse - The role of technology in facilitating child and adolescent sexual abuse: A systematic review

Child and adolescent sexual abuse is a reality that affects countless children and adolescents, harming and violating the physical, emotional and psychological integrity of the victims. There are numerous factors that cause vulnerability in this public, one of them being the technological means, due to the influences that the media causes, the exposure of children and adolescents and the facilitation of communication between aggressors and victims. To analyze the relationship between the use of technologies and child and adolescent sexual abuse, exploring how these technological tools have been used to facilitate the sexual abuse of children and adolescents. This is a systematic review of the literature. The search for articles was carried out from the Virtual Health Library (VHL); Lilacs; Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO); National Library of Medicine (PubMed). The descriptors used to search for the articles were: Child and adolescent sexual abuse, technologies and pedophilia. The Boolean operator AND was used to cross-reference the terms. Regarding the inclusion criteria used: complete articles, available and indexed in the aforementioned databases, free of charge, in the Portuguese language, published in the last five years between 2019 and 2023 related to the theme. Monographs, book chapters, paid articles, duplicate studies, in another language, and published before 2019 were excluded as exclusion criteria. Modern technologies, such as the internet and social networks, are means that facilitate the increase in cases of child and adolescent sexual abuse.
