Novel acidic ionic liquid [BEMIM][HSO4]: A highly efficient and recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of bis-indolyl methane derivatives

The novel acidic ionic liquid [BEMIM][HSO4] was prepared and characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT-135, LC-Mass, and elemental analysis techniques. It was examined as a catalyst for the synthesis of bis-indolyl methane derivatives at ambient temperature, and an important advantage was that it required only short reaction times. The crude bis-indolyl methane products could be purified by a simple recrystallization process, avoiding time-consuming chromatography. The catalyst was reusable, and even after five runs, an insignificant loss in the activity of the catalyst was observed. The chemical integrity of the recovered catalyst after the fifth run was confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR, and Mass analysis. This reaction has a high value of the environmental factor (E).

Red-sea dolomite as a sustainable catalyst in the synthesis of bis-indolyl methanes with molecular docking validation as HIV-1 replication inhibitor

ABSTRACT. Dolomite minerals were collected from the Red Sea Mountains around the Sokhna region. The rock was collected, rinsed, and crushed using a ball mailing machine and used without further purification. The dolomite sample was characterized using FTIR, XRD, SEM/EDAX, and mapping to ensure their composition and homogeneity. The obtained data reveal that the presence of a homogenous crystalline structure of CaMg(CO3)2. The characterized rock was used as a catalyst in the eco-friendly synthesis of bis-indolyl methane derivatives by reacting two moles of unsubstituted indole and various aromatic aldehydes in the presence of Red-Sea Dolomite mineral as an economical, recyclable, easily obtained, and nontoxic catalyst under solvent-free conditions. The molecular docking study explained that the bis-indolyl methane can be considered as a small molecule stimulator of HIV-1 frameshifting and inhibitor of viral replication.

Sulfonylbis(1,4-phenylene)bissulfamic acid (SPSA): Introduction of an efficient and reusable catalyst for the synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes

A simple, efficient and convenient route is described for the synthesis of bis-indolyl methanes by using recyclable catalyst sulfonylbis(1,4phenylene)bissulfamic acid (SPSA). In this procedure, we synthesize a bis-indolyl methane derivative via the three component reactions of two equivalent indoles with one equivalent of various aromatic aldehydes in the presence of 10 mol% SBSA as a heterogeneous catalyst under solvent-free conditions at 110 °C for the convinced reaction times (30–60 min). The advantages of this protocol towards the synthesis of bis-indolyl methane derivatives are: I) use of solvent-free conditions, II) inexpensive catalyst, III) using commercially available precursors, d) reusability of SBSA up to several cycles without much loss in reactivity, IV) simple work-up, V) high yields of pure products, VI) short reaction times. The structure of all bis(indolyl)methane derivatives were confirmed by melting point, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectra and were compared with reliable references.

Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone-supported triflic acid (PVPP·OTf) as a new, efficient, and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of bis-indolyl methane derivatives

Abstract A simple, inexpensive, environmentally friendly and efficient route for the synthesis of bis-indolyl methane derivatives by the reaction of indole or N-methyl indole with aldehydes using polyvinylpolypyrrolidone-supported triflic acid (PVPP·OTf) as a catalyst is described. PVPP·OTf catalyst is air-stable, heterogeneous, cost-effective, easy to handle, and easily removed from the reaction mixtures.
