MgO-CeO2 nanocomposite: efficient catalyst for the preparation of 2-aminothiophenes and thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-one derivatives

ABSTRACTMgO-CeO2 nanocomposite was prepared by a co-precipitation method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FE-SEM, and particle size distribution analysis. The XRD pattern shows the cubic phase of cerium oxide as the dominate phase. FE-SEM images show the homogeneity distribution of magnesium and cerium oxides in the sample. The mean particle size of nanocomposite determined by the dynamic light scattering technique is 66 nm. The catalytic activity of MgO-CeO2 nanocomposite was examined on the synthesis of 2-aminothiophenes and thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-one derivatives. In all cases, products were obtained in good to excellent yields.

Facile pathway for synthesis of two efficient catalysts for preparation of 2-aminothiophenes and tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans

We report here a new magnetically recyclable catalyst consisting of iron-substituted Keggin-type heteropolyacid (HPA) grafted on modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The synthesized hybrid nanomaterial exhibited the excellent catalytic efficiency in condensation reaction for the preparation of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans under solvent-free conditions as well as in the synthesis of 2-aminothiophenes via Gewald reaction. It must be noted that, HPA supported magnetite nanoparticles catalyzed the preparation of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans, whereas for Gewald reaction amine-functionalized magnetite nanoparticles acted as a catalyst. Different characterization techniques such as Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) were used to characterize the hybrid nanomaterial. The reusability of catalyst was affirmed by using in consecutive runs for five times. Performance of prepared catalyst was compared with the various previously reported catalysts; the newly synthesized catalysts found to be most efficient with regard to reaction time, yield and ease of catalyst separation.

Preparation and characterization of ZnO/nanoclinoptilolite as a new nanocomposite and studying its catalytic performance in the synthesis of 2-aminothiophenes via Gewald reaction

The nanocomposite ZnO/nanoclinoptilolite (ZnO/NCP) was prepared and performed as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst in the synthesis of 2-aminotiophene derivatives by Gewald reaction. The nanocomposite was prepared through impregnation of the nanoclinoptilolite (NCP) surface with zinc chloride solution through Zn2+ ion exchange, followed by calcination at 500 °C for 24 h. The synthesized nanocomposite was characterized by XRD, SEM, FESEM, FT-IR, ICP, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm. The obtained catalytic assays demonstrated that the catalytic activity of ZnO/NCP nanocomposite was increased with enhancing the amount of ZnO. Moreover, the prepared nanocomposite showed very good stability and reusability in the titled synthetic method under aerobic and mild conditions.

Microwave-assisted Gewald Synthesis of 2-Aminothiophenes Using Functional Ionic Liquid as Soluble Support

A microwave-assisted liquid-phase Gewald synthesis of 2-aminothiophenes was developed using task-specific ionic liquid- [2-hydemim][BF 4 ] as soluble support. This new synthetic method is simple and efficient, and the products are obtained in good to excellent yields with high purities, without the need for chromatographic purification.
