Implementation of Sustainable Tourism in Kertalangu Cultural Village as a Tourist Attraction in Denpasar City

This research aims to describe how Sustainable Tourism is implemented in the Kertalangu Cultural Village as a tourist attraction in Denpasar City. Researchers used qualitative research methods with primary data collection techniques obtained directly through observation, interviews and official data published by the Denpasar City Tourism Office, in this case in the form of the number of tourist visits to the Kertalangu Cultural Village from 2018 to 2023 as well as secondary data collected obtained through literature study. This research uses the concept of Sustainable Tourism and tourism aspects are analyzed using constructivism theory. The research results show that the implementation of Sustainable Tourism in the Kertalangu Cultural Village has been successful. This success is proven by an increase in tourist visits by 37.33% in 2023 and the development of natural potential and improvements to facilities. This makes the Kertalangu Cultural Village able to attract tourists to visit, making it a tourist attraction with Sustainable Tourism.

Barriers and policies affecting the implementation of sustainable tourism: the Portuguese experience

ABSTRACT This paper identifies and ranks the factors that hinder the implementation of sustainable tourism in a developing destination. It uses a Delphi method combined with Q-Sort technique with three rounds of ranking by experts and analyzes the results with the Kendall’s W test. It finds that the experts agreed on the most and least important factors, such as the lack of long-term vision, the lack of clear definitions, the lack of integration into government policy, the excessive bureaucracy and the economic priority versus environmental priority. It also finds that the experts disagreed on the other factors, showing a variation in opinions. It compares the results with the literature and confirms the importance of long-term vision, government integration, bureaucratic reduction and clarity in policies for sustainable tourism. The experts became more aware over the rounds, indicating progress in addressing the barriers. It concludes by presenting some policy-making guidelines for a tourism destination manager.

The Sustainable Tourism Implementation in Bonjeruk Tourism Village, Central Lombok

Sustainable tourism is to improve the welfare, economy, and public health. Assessment of Sustainable Practices in the tourism Businesses in Northern area of Pakistan

Being a developing economy, Pakistan can sustain its economic growth through the promotion of Tourism activities. In this regard, tourism is considered an important channel to boost the economic development of a country. In Pakistan, the tourism sector has been fluctuating due to various political and security issues. Moreover, Sustainability is an established business trend in the modern corporate world. The literature on sustainable tourism practices is scant, particularly in the least developed countries. Very few studies touch upon the concept and no holistic theoretical or conceptual frameworks around the idea of sustainable practices in the tourism industry have been formulated. This study aims to explore the implementation of sustainable tourism in Pakistan and how the tourism industry conceives its role in this regard. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with the tour operators who operated in the northern area of Pakistan. In-depth interviews were conducted to gather data. Results suggest that the tour operators although realize the importance of social, environmental, and economic dimensions of tourism on the communities have no management systems in place to cater accordingly. There are no incentives in place by the government to facilitate tour operators to design and implement such systems. The tour operators do not select a destination based on Sustainable practices, but rather the selection of destination is mostly demand-based and profit-oriented. The study suggests that corporate profit motive is the sole criterion for decision-making and is one of the major causes impeding sustainable tourism in Pakistan. The role of tour operators in developing sustainable tourism is vague as the tour operators do not have any systems in place to implement sustainable models. The study recommends that efforts need to be put in place to incentivize sustainable tourism in Pakistan and proper laws should be set forth by the authorities to comply by the tour operators. The role of tour operators is important and understood, however, there is a need to put proper systems in place.

Analysis of factors and strategies for the implementation of sustainable tourism in a green economic structure in China

The tourism industry significantly contributes to the economic development of numerous emerging countries by facilitating the expansion of local enterprises. However, tourism may adversely affect the environment, local communities, and cultural heritage when it is not managed effectively. In this study, the case of Guilin city of China is undertaken for the analysis. Guilin, a popular tourist destination in southern China, has experienced rapid growth in tourism, generating economic benefits but also posing challenges related to environmental sustainability and social impact. This study uses Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to identify the most important criteria, sub-criteria, and effective policy strategies for promoting sustainable tourism in developing economies. Therefore, the study identified five criteria, twenty sub-criteria, and six policy strategies for sustainable tourism development in Guilin, China. The results of Fuzzy AHP method has identified economic viability, infrastructure and services, and social and cultural impact are the most suitable criteria for sustainable tourism. The results of Fuzzy TOPSIS method has recognized community-based tourism, sustainable tourism certification, and public-private partnerships as most effective strategies. This research provides useful insights for policymakers and stakeholders, enabling them to contribute to the sustainable development of the tourism industry and support the achievement of the United Nations sustainable development goals.

Environmental Education of Tourists for Sustainable Tourism Development

Abstract In line with the concept of sustainable development, the paper deals with the issue of environmental education and training to increase the awareness of tourism participants of their own responsibility for the practical implementation of sustainable tourism. The aim is to map the behavior of tourism participants and to propose some sustainable behavior principles in the form of a miniguide. The motto of the miniguide is not to simply see travel as just fun, or passive source of information, but as an incentive to learn about nature, culture and customs of local people, to promote and deepen language and other skills, including active protection of the environment. The miniguide might also be an incentive to sustainable tourism development. An important aspect of putting the principles of sustainability into practice is to publish and disseminate these principles so that they become freely available to the general public. That may be through information materials, educational signs, social networks, etc. Spreading awareness of the need to protect nature and the countryside will help to make people aware of their own responsibility for our common future.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the implementation of sustainable tourism in the operation of Ketapang Beach (Pantai Ketapang) in Lampung, Sumatra. Research methods: It is a descriptive, qualitative research. The data was collected by direct observation, document study, and literature studies from related journals. Results and discussion: Ketapang Beach requires development that involves all tourism stakeholders because it has much potential to be developed but has not been planned and realized correctly. Implication: This study explains the potential possessed by Ketapang Beach through a SWOT analysis and provides a sustainable tourism model design for the tourist attraction of Ketapang Beach. European Union Funds as Stimulators of Sustainable Tourism Development in Municipalities of the Lower Silesian Region in Poland in 2014-2019

Abstract Introduction. The study assessed the impact of EU funds on sustainable tourism in the Lower Silesian region of Poland in the years 2014-2019. Material and methods. A literature review and the following research methods were used in the study: logical analysis and construction, as well as documentary and statistical analyses. A database was compiled containing statistical data on implemented tourism projects subsidized with EU funds in municipalities of Lower Silesia. Each project was then assigned to one of sustainable tourism sections in accordance with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Destination Criteria. Statistical analysis included structure analysis, basic statistics, and the Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA test and post-hoc test. Results. The Kruskal-Wallis test results (H = 20.01 for project values, and H = 23.34 for the amount of EU funding) and the probability level (p = 0.001) demonstrated that project expenditures on tourism in each sustainable tourism section differed significantly. The multiple comparisons test (post-hoc test) revealed statistically significant differences between the values of projects implemented in the sections of cultural sustainability and sustainable management (p = 0.009), cultural sustainability and environmental sustainability (p = 0.009), socio-economic sustainability and sustainable management (p = 0.009), and socio-economic sustainability and environmental sustainability (p = 0.008). In terms of the amount of EU funding, statistically significant differences were found between cultural sustainability and environmental sustainability (p = 0.001), and socio-economic sustainability and environmental sustainability (p = 0.001). Conclusions. The allocation of EU funds for tourism projects did not contribute to the implementation of sustainable tourism. In the next EU programming period, i.e. 2021-2027, a more sustainable allocation of funds for tourism projects should be pursued. There is a clear need to increase the number and value of tourism projects implemented in the area of environmental sustainability.

Analysis of the Concept of Sustainable Tourism in Maratua Island, Berau Regency, East Kalimantan Province

Sustainable tourism based on marine tourism on maratua island, berau regency, east Kalimantan province, Indonesia has challenges and perspectives from the side of tourists and tourists. PT. X and PT. Y was chosen as the object of research because it has CHSE certification from the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. The implementation of sustainable tourism has challenges in the accessibility sector where the high price of airfares to berau districts. The ISO 26000 approach to the core subject environment is the basis for tourism actors to carry out the concept of sustainable tourism. The relevance to the SDGs for this research will focus on SDGs No. 8 on economic improvement and SDGs No. 14 on marine ecosystems. Tourists who have visited PT. X and PT. Y 97% stated that they would return to maratua to re-enjoy the beauty of maratua island. As many as 47% of tourists feel very satisfied with the services carried out by PT. X and PT. Y.

A Study on The Development of Priority Tourism Destinations in The Bromo Tengger, Semeru Area

One indicator of success in tourism development is the importance of considering the technical aspects of planning, namely the existence of a study of tourism potential that will be developed as a tourist area more professionally. This study refers to the GSTC criteria in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park by analyzing internal and external factors with SWOT analysis, then formulating priorities from alternative strategies through the Analytic Hierarchy Process method. Determining the informants used purposive, snowball, and quota sampling techniques. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and focus group discussions. Based on the study’s results, implementing sustainable tourism according to the GSTC in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park has met the criteria but has not been maximized. The SWOT analysis resulted in the weighting of IFAS and EFAS covering S-O (3.81), W-O (3.11), W-T (2.90), and S-T (2.28). S-O obtained the highest weight so that it was continued into the AHP. The order of priority of the alternative S-O strategy based on the AHP method obtained the following results: Developing attractions (33%), strengthening institutions (25%), making event calendars (15%), conservation (11%), infrastructure development (8%), optimizing supporting facilities (5%) and developing agro-tourism (3%)

Pura Luhur Tamba Waras: aspects of sustainable tourism and spiritual tourism

This research aims to analyze the implementation of sustainable tourism in spiritual tourism at Pura Luhur Tamba Waras in Desa Sangketan, Tabanan Regency, Bali, Indonesia. This research uses qualitative analysis techniques. The data source used is secondary data and is accessed through company documents, journals, books, articles, and websites. The results show that sustainable tourism in spiritual tourism at Pura Luhur Tamba Waras are the application of basic concepts in sustainable tourism, namely the social concept of cooperation. The economic concept has also been implemented very well, namely the surrounding community can sell spiritual facilities and infrastructure in the temple area, but the implementation of the environmental concept is not good because the waste that is used for spiritual tourism is not well managed. Pura Luhur Tamba Waras has implemented three basic concepts of sustainable tourism, namely social, economic and environmental but the concept of the environment has not been maximally implemented.

Pengembangan Desa Wisata Berkelanjutan: Studi Kasus di Desa Paccekke, Kabupaten Barru, Indonesia

This study analyses the actual condition of a tourism village from a sustainable tourism perspective. There is limited study on the implementation of sustainable tourism in tourism villages. This study aims to 1) identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in implementing sustainable tourism; 2) analyse the steps or efforts in achieving sustainable tourism villages. Qualitative research has guided the researchers in collecting data in Paccekke Village, Barru Regency, in 2021. The results reveal supporting and inhibiting factors for implementing sustainable tourism villages. The supporting factors are the natural and cultural potential of the village; sustainable natural conditional; positive attitude of the community towards tourism and the culture of collaborative work (gotong royong); the existence of cultural events; and commitment of local stakeholders. The inhibiting factors are limited facilities and infrastructure, weak planning in the tourism sector, extreme accessibility; weak internet network; and the low awareness and ability of the community in managing tourism potential. This study recommends the importance of utilising the existence of tourist villages in the Barru Regency as a whole in order to improve the quality of tourist visits. Utilising social media as a promotional tool, anticipating the impact of massive visits on environmental quality, and collaborating with various stakeholders for community involvement are strategies to implement sustainable tourism villages. This study provides an overview of the factual conditions of a village, not only from a positive perspective but also obstacles that require solutions or strategies for a sustainable tourism village.

A comparison of rap-tourism method and multi attribute aggregation in sustainability assessment of tourist destination

The development of the tourism industry causes emergence of positive and negative impacts on tourist destinations. The development of the tourism industry has led the government to implement the concept of sustainable tourism. To assist the implementation of sustainable tourism, it is important to know the sustainability status of tourist destinations. The measuring tools used for calculated sustainability index values and identification of sensitive indicators. The method used must be easy to use and provide accurate results. This study compares between the rap-tourism and the multi attribute aggregation method. The aim is to choose which method better in measuring sustainability status when the objects of measurement are a lot of tourist destinations, better means easy to use and represent indicators condition briefly. The results of the assessment using both methods obtain the same sustainability status but there are differences in the sustainability index value. These two methods also use different approaches in determining sensitive indicators that should be improved to increase the sustainability index of tourist destinations.

Tourist attractiveness of rural communes in the functional urban area of Olsztyn – a voivodship city

Motives: Tourist potential is determined by the presence of tourism-related assets, the level of tourismoriented development and the transport accessibility of an area. The dominant role in lake zones is played by their natural assets, mainly in rural areas with potential for the development of ecotourism, nature tourism and the implementation of sustainable tourism. A position relative to an urban centre, especially a provincial city, is the decisive factor for development opportunities in rural communes. Aim: The aim of the study was to analyse and compare the tourist attractiveness of rural communes in the functional urban area of Olsztyn – a provincial city. Results: The study was conducted by means of multidimensional comparative analysis with synthetic measures. The commune of Stawiguda, rich in natural and cultural assets and with good transport accessibility, proved to be the area with the highest tourist attractiveness (0.662). On the other end of the spectrum, the commune of Dywity achieved the lowest score (0.475) despite the best utilisation of its position neighbouring an urban centre.

The Implementation of Environmental Management Accounting and Sustainable Tourism in Tourism Villages in Bali

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the implementation of sustainable tourism based on environmental management accounting in tourism villages in Bali, Indonesia.
 Research methods: This research method is qualitative which data collection techniques were done through documentation studies. This method was chosen to gain a deep understanding of the implementation of sustainable tourism based on environmental management accounting in tourism villages in Bali.
 Findings: The participation of tourism actors in implementing sustainable tourism based on environmental management accounting in tourism villages in Bali is still not maximized.
 Implications: The process of community empowerment to open accommodation services in the form of homestays that use the principles of green tourism, local transportation services, the availability of craft and art communities, and local guides is still very rare.

The influence of tourism revenue sharing constraints on sustainable tourism development: a study of Aksu-Jabagly nature reserve, Kazakhstan

ABSTRACT Tourism and the sharing of the associated revenues with local people have become a popular strategy for implementing sustainability in nature reserves (NR) or protected areas (PA) globally. Although the local people have obtained some modest economic gains from the development of tourism, especially in infrastructural development, there are still some constraints on revenue sharing. These restrictions are very obvious in many underdeveloped countries and they lead to the passive state of local community participation in tourism development. The main purpose of this article is to, through the example of Aksu-Jabagly NR, study how the Tourism Revenue Sharing (TRS) constraints in a tourism destination inhibit the implementation of sustainable tourism development in Kazakhstan. In order to understand the impact of TRS constraints on the implementation of sustainable tourism, we surveyed the perceptions of 222 residents from the village Jabagly adjacent to Aksu-Jabagly tourist destination. Results suggested that due to certain TRS restrictions, residents believe that a small portion of the revenue generated by tourism has been shared with local development. They evaluated on the indicators of TRS level with a lower score (average mean = 2.606). Most residents are not satisfied with the development of tourism, and their participation in tourism is also comparatively low. The results also reveal that highly perceived constraints of TRS are the main indirect cause of residents’ dissatisfaction with the development of the tourism industry. In the end, residents’ dissatisfaction results in fewer residents participating in tourism.

Does Sustainable Tourism Development Enhance Destination Prosperity?

Prosperity is one of the five critical areas for Sustainable Development according to the 2030 Agenda. This research develops a prosperity model for a tourism destination and examines stakeholders’ perception of the role of sustainable tourism development in enhancing the prosperity. A set of 18 sustainability indicators were used and identified through a hybrid model that combines results from a systematic literature search and four-stage convergent interviews. Results from 171 participants from five different groups of stakeholders revealed that sustainable tourism development enhances the prosperity of the target destination in general. Sustainability was found to be a medium to strong predictor of key prosperity dimensions, particularly environmental quality and sociocultural empowerment. Finally, the level of relationships were quantified to assist destination managers in identifying where to expend effort and resources to improve the implementation of sustainable tourism while considering the key dimensions of prosperity.

Faecal bacteria density in tropical seawater: The Itanemas' cove case study, Angra dos Reis, Brazil

Angra dos Reis can receive up to 1.3 million tourists in the summer season. The lack of an adequate sanitary system makes sewage contamination a growing concern in Ribeira Bay, Angra dos Reis, Brazil. This study aims to investigate the seasonal variation of faecal indicator bacteria (FIB) and abiotic variables in Itanema cove situated within Ribeira Bay. Despite the seasonal population increase (>80 individuals) and the absence of an integrated sanitary system, our results indicate that Itanema is still a stable estuarine environment. From 2017 to 2019, the mean salinity was 27.91, pH was 7.82, and water temperature was 25.01 °C. However, the FIB number was 105, suggesting the absence of sewage treatment in Itanema's outfall. Following current conservation status, baseline studies are mandatory for background references of endangered coastal areas such as Itanema cove. These studies are crucial for future governance decisions and sustainable tourism implementation in Angra dos Reis.
