Enhancing Adoption of Sustainable Product Innovations: Addressing Reduced Performance with Risk-Reducing Product Modifications

Past studies have shown that the probability of the successful diffusion of sustainable product innovations is strikingly low. A potentially promising marketing strategy to reduce negative consumer perceptions of sustainable product innovations is risk-reducing product modifications (RPMs), which account for behavioral adjustments and performance uncertainties by employing an additional component that uses established technology. This research strives to empirically test the potential positive effects of RPMs using two studies on electric vehicles with and without range extenders as prime examples of RPM: (1) an online survey of potential adopters and (2) a postadoption survey of early adopters. The results show that RPMs increase the adoption of sustainable product innovations. Consumers’ tendency to overestimate their true needs and their need for insurance against insufficient performance explain the effectiveness of RPM.

Musyarakah Mutanaqisah: Strengthening Islamic Financing in Indonesia and Addressing Murabahah Vulnerabilities

The article analyses to examine the practice of murabahah and musyarakah mutanaqisah financing in sharia banking in Indonesia. Islamic finance plays an important role in the Indonesian economy, contributing to financial inclusion and encouraging ethical practices and sharia compliance. Among the various Islamic financing models, musyarakah mutanaqisah has become famous as an alternative to conventional financing methods. The aticle method used is qualitative research with secondary data and doctrinal legal study methods. This article uses sustainable product innovation, modernization, and compliance with sharia principles. The results of the article found that the implementation of murabahah has several weaknesses, including: it is considered not in accordance with sharia, the nature of the contract is fixed, the down payment for sharia housing loans by murabahah is high, it is based on sharia, and cannot be used for refinancing, takeovers, and securing assets. The advantages of musyarakah mutanaqisah can be a solution to murabahah's weaknesses, because musyarakah mutanaqisah is safe according to sharia, suitable for long-term financing, down payments for sharia mortgages by musyarakah mutanaqisah are low, and according to sharia, musyarakah mutanaqisah can also be used for refinancing, takeovers and securing assets.

Transforming Milk Tea: Harnessing Nypa fruticans Mesocarp Flour as an Alternative for Tapioca Pearl for Sustainable Product Development and Innovation

Nypa fruticans, known as nypa, is a fast fruit-bearing mangrove palm with immeasurable potential. This dissertation used the mature fruit mesocarp, a byproduct of the Nypa palm. Thus, the byproduct is underrated for some reason, and mostly, they are neglected due to a lack of public knowledge of its most potential. This research used the Nypa Fruitican Mesocarp fruit from Brgy. Sabang, Surigao City. The quest for sustainable alternatives in exploring mesocarp flour as a potential substitute for traditional tapioca pearls in milk tea beverages. Begins with a comprehensive determination of mesocarp flour's functional properties using the ANNOVA ONE WAY test p>0.05. The result of all the data is 0.098; therefore, Pearl made from Mesocarp flour is a sustainable innovation. The functional properties of pearls made from cassava and mesocarps have no significant difference. Further, practical application forms a core component of this study, involving mesocarp flour formulations to replicate tapioca pearls. The cooking process and consumer acceptance are rigorously analyzed to determine their compatibility and desirability in this popular beverage. Analysis of variants showed that Pearls, once made from Mesocarp of Nypa fruticans incorporated into the milk tea beverage, have 4.3 overall acceptance, and the best organoleptic test with texture, aroma, and color is 4.3 (likes). Additionally, this research contributes a nuanced understanding of mesocarp flour's potential against traditional tapioca pearls, considering cost-effectiveness, scalability, and consumer preferences, thereby fostering innovation in sustainable beverage production.

Innovative Strategy for Sustainable Business Model Development with Value and Social Impact Approach for Economic Sustainability

Economic sustainability has become a primary concern in addressing global challenges. Confronting the complexity of economic sustainability challenges, innovation and the development of sustainable business models are crucial. This research aims to identify, develop, and test innovative strategies for sustainable business model development with a focus on value and social impact. The study employs a comprehensive examination of previously published works, utilizing qualitative analysis to achieve a holistic understanding of the topic, spanning the timeframe from 2016 to 2023. The findings indicate that the development of sustainable business models with a focus on value and social impact is an essential strategic step amid the complexity of economic, social, and environmental challenges. The implementation of these strategies is not only a moral responsibility for companies but also an urgent necessity in the face of rapid global changes. Engaging various aspects, including economic, social, and environmental dimensions, several key points need emphasis, namely the integration of sustainable values, technological and product innovation, stakeholder collaboration and engagement, employee development, and performance reporting and accountability.

THE IMPACT OF EXTERNAL SUPPLY CHAIN AND SUSTAINABLE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE ON THE PRODUCT INNOVATION PERFORMANCE: THE MODERATING ROLES OF INNOVATION TYPE

This study delves into the intricate interplay between external supply chain dynamics, sustainable competitive advantage, innovation types, and product innovation performance. Through a comprehensive exploration, this research seeks to shed light on the relationships and their implications for organizations.
 The conceptual framework was constructed by introducing demographic variables such as position, company type, capitalization, etc. The minimum acceptable sample size for this study was calculated to be 384 and 520 valid questionnaires were distributed and returned to the companies in different industries through stratified sampling method, and hypotheses were formulated. Through related research, it was concluded that there is a strong positive relationship between the effectiveness of the external supply chain and the product innovation performance of an organization, there is a significant positive relationship between sustainable competitive advantage and product innovation performance, and innovation type does not have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between the external supply chain and product innovation performance. This study lays the groundwork for future research to explore deeper nuances in external supply chains, sustainable competitive advantage, and innovation types to enrich the collective knowledge of innovation and supply chain management.

A validated measurement scale for sustainable product innovation performance

Measuring sustainable innovation is one of the most prominent issues in the literature on sustainable innovation. Although there are some studies on measuring environmental innovation, research on measuring sustainable innovation is at a primitive stage and has not yet reached the expected maturity. The purpose of this study is to develop a validated scale for measuring sustainable product innovation performance. For this purpose, literature was thoroughly reviewed to obtain measurement items and a web-based questionnaire was prepared to collect data from manufacturing companies in Turkey. The scale development process was followed to obtain the final measurement scale by using explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The scale is the first known validated scale to measure sustainable product innovation performance in manufacturing companies. This scale can be used by researchers working on sustainable innovation to test the relationships between various organizational concepts and by manufacturing executives to evaluate the sustainable product innovation performance of their organizations.

The present bibliometric analysis delves into the scholarly terrain concerning sustainable product innovation, elucidating its principal contributors, research themes, and business consequences. Leading scholarly databases provided the data, which were then examined using the bibliometric software program VOSviewer. Influential books, prolific writers, and research hubs were found through the investigation. Among the notable discoveries are foundational studies on strategic factor markets by Barney (1986), corporate sustainability beyond the business case by Dyllick & Hockerts (2002), and business models and innovation by Teece (2010). Research clusters were revealed through co-citation analysis, underscoring the complex character of sustainable product innovation. Topics including competitive advantage, sustainable entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility, sustainable supply chains, and innovative business models were covered by clusters. networks of collaboration and prolific writers. Popular themes that emerged from the keyword analysis included "business practice," "innovation," "corporate sustainability," and "sustainable business models." In the air were phrases like "circular economy," "sustainable consumption," and "social responsibility." These results offer a thorough synopsis of the developing body of knowledge regarding sustainable product innovation in academia.

Research on the Sustainability of Environmental Protection of Fashion Brands

By examining whether or not fashion behemoths like Louis Vuitton ought to keep continuing to use sustainable and ecologically friendly production methods, this article seeks to highlight the significance of sustainability for fashion businesses. It also seeks to persuade consumers to purchase eco-friendly clothing. I started by outlining Louis Vuitton's history. Then I enumerated the many objectives set by Louis Vuitton and the sustainable product innovations they are actively adopting. I then examined whether Louis Vuitton should keep using green production methods using two business tools, SWOT and STEEPLE. Analysis of these two viewpoints allows we to assess Louis Vuitton's own compliance with its obligations as well as the external social environment's attitude toward sustainable fashion and its development. Finally, after performing the study, it is clear that businesses in the fashion sector as a whole must create ecologically friendly and sustainable production methods in addition to Louis Vuitton continuing its environmental protection efforts.

Adaption of the meat attachment scale (MEAS) to Germany: interplay with food neophobia, preference for organic foods, social trust and trust in food technology innovations

Meat-based diets are still the norm, and vegans and vegetarians represent only a small minority of the population. A transition, respectively, behavioural change towards a diet with less meat can only occur by adopting a positive attitude towards dietary changes based on reasons and motivations. The main aim of this study is to apply the meat attachment scale (MEAS) in Germany in order to analyse if this construct is a barrier towards a diet with less meat in this country. For this purpose, the impact of meat attachment on the trust in different protein alternatives (plant-based, insects, cultured meat) and related food processing technologies is analysed. The findings reveal that a high level of meat attachment goes along with lower trust in plant-based proteins. Similar holds for cultured meat and insect proteins. Thus it appears that, at least for the moment, cultured meat or proteins from insects are not a logical substitute for the heavily meat attached consumer. Furthermore, in the analysis, we considered if meat attachment as measured by the MEAS is correlated with other scales/preferences such as food neophobia, social trust, and attitude towards respective preference for organic products. Literature shows that all mentioned constructs impact the acceptance, preference or trust in more sustainable food product innovation, respectively, more sustainable food processing techniques. The outcome of the correlation analysis demonstrated that in particular food neophobia and meat attachment are not correlated with each other. That is, the MEAS represents a predictor for trust in food (processing) technologies as e.g. plant-based proteins or cultured meat that is independent of the neophobia construct.

Preparation of biomass composites with high performance and carbon sequestration from waste wood fibers

Forest ecosystems play a significant role in mitigating global warming, primarily because wood is recognized as a crucial natural material for capturing carbon. However, the increasing global demand for wood conflicts with the idea of sustainable carbon capture, emphasizing the importance of recycling waste wood and utilizing it in multiple ways. Despite the potential of wood fibers to strengthen composites, the complexity of their preparation and their natural sugar content limit their applications in recycling waste wood. This study combines the Random Forest and NSGA II algorithms for comprehensive multi-objective optimization, focusing on enhancing the strength, resilience, and carbon capture capabilities of composites. In-depth microstructural analyses, along with elemental mapping, clarify how wood fibers contribute to toughening and resistance to cracking, affirming their vital role in improving the mechanical properties of composites. The study determined the optimal mixing ratio and mechanism of action of NaOH and CH3COOH treatments. The Pareto solution set derived from the algorithm aids intricate multi-objective balance analyses. Notably, discrepancies between experimental and optimized values remain minimal, and were recorded at 1.03%, 0.85%, 1.76%, and 2.31%, respectively, thus reinforcing model precision and trustworthiness. Cementitious wood fiber composites' merits set the stage for sustainable product innovations, transitioning theoretical insights into eco-conscious practical applications.

A Structural Equation Model of Governing Factors Influencing the Development of Sustainable Insurance Product in the Future

Designing and proposing sustainable insurance programs to insurance companies that run their businesses in Indonesia have been one of the insurers’ approaches to creating more stable and certain industry climate. Moreover, the Indonesian Financial Services Authority or OJK encourages financial services sector actors in creating, developing sustainable product innovations, and supporting financing of production activities that can create economic growth, social justice and environmental quality improvement. We conduct survey and analyze whether insurance companies in Indonesia are interested in implementing sustainable finance in insurance industry and developing sustainable insurance products. Participants’ responses depict insurance firms’ paradigm on sustainable insurance. In this study a framework is proposed for governing factors that impact the development of sustainable insurance product in the future such as the level of knowledge, readiness, and current sustainable insurance product development. To clarify the relationships, a structural equation model is utilized to examine the framework fit with the hypothesis for the four latent variables of this study. Acceptable goodness of fit is established for validity of the measurement model. The test of validity is accepted for the structural model in this study. The SEM results conclude that an insurer’s knowledge of sustainable finance principles affects the insurance firm’s readiness to implement sustainable insurance. Subsequently, the insurer’s readiness affects its current level of sustainable insurance product development. Eventually, the insurer’s knowledge and current development in sustainable insurance products have a positive effect on the insurance firm’s willingness to develop sustainable insurance products in the future. Thus, this study provides valuable information about factors affecting the development of sustainable insurance products in the future as a key for a successful implementation of sustainable finance in Indonesian insurance industry.

Knowledge Dissemination of Sustainable Product Development

Current environmental regulations and customer expectations force manufacturing companies to develop new products considering ecological, social, and economic issues. At present, product sustainability, time-to-market, and profit are equally important factors in the new product development process. Consequently, product design should embrace issues related to sustainability in the entire product life cycle. These issues refer to manufacturing processes, product use, and the post-use phase, including product reuse, remanufacturing, recycling or disposal. Product design considering these issues is called sustainable design or eco-design. The product development process aims to create a new product that can be a modification of existing products or be completely new for a company and market. Innovations are widely used as a key component for addressing sustainable development concerns. The role of product design and innovation in the quest for sustainability has received considerable attention among researchers and businesses in recent years. This research is a novel bibliometric analysis of sustainable product development, product design, and product innovation in the last 30 years, from 1993 to 2022. The results of data analysis embrace trends regarding the yearly number of publications devoted to sustainable product development, sustainable product design, and sustainable product innovation. Moreover, the collected publications were classified into subject areas, source titles, and source type. The bibliometric analysis reveals the most popular journals to knowledge dissemination of sustainable product development, sustainable design, and sustainable innovation. The results show that the increase of publications devoted to sustainable product design and sustainable product innovation is particularly strong in the last 5 years. Moreover, the number of publications related to sustainable product design is over ten times larger than related to sustainable product innovation.

Effect of new generation Ftas onsustainable product innovation: empirical evidence fromvietnamese listed textile firms

Introduction: The covid-19 pandemic has significantly changed consumption habits, with by cutting unnecessary spending on fashion products, and focusing on sustainable products. Therefore, greener textile innovation is currently a rapidly growing trend, bringing new sales and flexible production capabilities. The article presents impact of new generation FTA like EVFTA, CPTPP on sustainable textile product innovation. Problem: Greener production is dominant in several export industries. After the Covid-19 pandemic shifting from fast fashion to sustainable fashion is more and more changing. Objective: The aim of this study is to examine impact directly as well as indirectly the relationship between FTA expectation on SPIC via 2 mediating variable such as environmental regulation and CEO’s perception. Methodology: The study is exploratory research, it was modeled using PLS-SEM to test the relationships in the model. Results: Both Environment Regulation and CEO's perception play an important role as partial mediation in the relationship between FTA expectation and sustainable product innovation capability. Conclusion: This project seeks to generate a change in the behavior of the use towards efficiency and modification of user practices to favor the sustainability standard of the textile and garment firm. Originality: Through this research, integrated and sustainable textile and garment management strategies are formulated for green marketing strategies in Vietnam. Limitations: The lack of information provided by the municipality and access to the sampling points.

Sustainable Fashion Product Innovation: Continuous Value of Apparel Products on Second-Hand Product Trading Platforms

This study aimed to determine the appropriate fashion design elements for fashion product innovation to achieve continuous product value and promote sustainable fashion. We focused on five fashion design elements: classical, transformative, patterned, multimaterial, and decorative. Using an apparel auction market dataset, we verified how the five design elements contributed to the value continuation of apparel products across five categories. We statistically confirmed the design elements that positively affect the continuous value of different apparel products per fashion product categories. This study can help designers select elements that sustain product value, providing them with direct references for recommendations.

Digitalization, new business Startups, information and Communication Technologies and product innovation: Evidence From China in the lens of sustainability.

The global economies and international organizations are inclined towards sustainable growth, technological advancements and product innovations. China is the leading economy in information and communication technologies and among the major industrially expanded economies covering a substantial share of the global market in exports. The prime objective of this study is to explore the role of digitalization and Information and communication technologies (ICT) for product innovation (PIN). In doing so, the study also attempts to draw some novel implications regarding business, entrepreneurship, and product innovation in the lens of sustainability. This current study use the annual data of China from 1990-2020. The empirical analysis was conducted using the stationarity testing and the Johansen cointegration test. In addition, due to the data's asymmetrical distribution, the non-parametric "quantile regression" is used. For robustness, this study employs the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square, Canonical Cointegration, and Dynamic Ordinary Least Square methods. The empirical results reveal that economic progress and financial development are substantial factors of product innovation. The robust analysis reveals that medium and high-tech industries and information and communication technology adversely affect product innovation. Further, the presence of financial development transforms the negative influence of information and communication technology into a positive. The current study concludes more investments in the technological industry are required to encourage product innovation in China. The study discusses some policy-related implications in the context of business sustainability and product innovation.

Path to Sustainable Competitive Advantage with Use of Environmental, Social and Governance Principles

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the relationship between product innovation and strategic resources used by the furniture enterprises, under the perspective of sustainable competitive advantage, with the intention to identify the resources previous to innovation.
 Methodology/approach: The method used in this research is a quantitative and descriptive study, through a survey, applied to 1067 companies in Brazilian furniture industry. The data analysis occurred through Structural Equation Modeling.
 Originality/Relevance: Product innovation and strategic resources are capable of providing great potential for economic transformation. It is strategically acknowledged that there is a relationship between product innovation and the use of resources, however, there are as yet insufficient empirical studies to determine which resources influence product innovation. Another important aspect is to evaluate the influence of Environmental, Social and Governance sustainability precepts in the development of new products.
 Key findings: In the empirical study, noticed that Product Innovation results from the use of resources, which configures innovation antecedents.
 Theoretical/methodological contributions: This study contributes the advancement of science, which can be used to analyze the antecedents of Product Innovation, which pointed out that companies with strategic resources can expand the capacity of innovation by generating sustainable Product Innovation, which leads to the success of a new product.
 Social contributions/to management: This study can contribute to managerial decisions, as the results indicate that the Success in New Product Development proved to be an essential form of competitive advantage, comparing the results of Product Innovation with competitors and relating this performance to the use of Environmental, Social and Governance principles.

The relationships between economic orientation, sustainable product design and innovation performance: Empirical evidence from the US manufacturing firms

Growing corporate social responsibility requirements have compelled manufacturing organizations to embed sustainability in their business models. Consequently, firms focus on designing and producing products using sustainable means to bring new products to the market that are environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. However, to satisfy investors, it is also necessary to focus on financial priorities. This research presents a model with relationships between an organization's economic orientation, sustainable product design activities, and firm innovation performance to study how financial priorities affect sustainability initiatives in new product development and innovation outcomes. The empirical evidence is drawn from a panel survey of 282 US manufacturing firms. The results suggest strong interrelationships among the three constructs under investigation. The practitioners can pursue economic orientation and still focus on sustainable product design to achieve innovation performance.

Strategic management in Polish startups: strategy vs business model approach – research results

Startups` inherent qualities, as well as their crucial role in development, implementation and diffusion of improved goods and services, which reduce the use of natural resources or increase societal inclusion, enabled to identify two main goals of the paper. The first one is to get more insight into the way strategy and business model are used in startups. Second goal is to take a closer look at the relationship between them to find out, which one – if any – dominates. The way startup uses these approaches is going to have a significant impact on: implementation of management methods and tools, process of strategy identification and implementation, as well as business model innovation (BMI) management. Since BMI provides mechanisms to assist the innovation process for embedding sustainability, it can be viewed at as an alternative to product or process innovation. Hence, the way BMI is implemented is critical not only for sustainable product and service innovation, but also startup`s sustainable growth. The five-step research procedure included both qualitative and quantitative research methods, main one being survey questionnaire. The sample comprised 152 Polish startups. Research results confirmed, that both strategy and business model approaches were used by the sample companies. It means that well-known and established strategic management tools do hold significance also in startups. In the context of relationship between these two approaches, two main conclusions can be drawn. Firstly, all three scenarios included in the research were used; secondly, the most popular one being business model adapted to strategy. Moreover, research results suggest, that there is a point in startup`s life cycle, at which it starts to focus on its strategy, bringing it closer to company model typical for strategic management mainstream.

Born to be sustainable: How to combine strategic disruption, open innovation, and process digitization to create a sustainable business

Changing societal demands, climate change, and ecological transition lead companies to modify their practices to integrate social and environmental concerns. However, some businesses are born to be sustainable and thrive in today’s economy. Indeed, their creators are sustainable entrepreneurs who see opportunities in social and environmental issues. This article studies the constituent elements of these companies: disruptive strategy, social product innovation, and digitalization of processes. An in-depth case study of the iconic company Patagonia identifies the main managerial practices that make up sustainable entrepreneurship. The most remarkable ones are: (1) ability to make radical choices contrary to the most common, supposedly more profitable practices; (2) integration of suppliers as true long-term partners; (3) open sustainable product innovation to achieve excellence in simplicity; and (4) environmental activism to convince others to adopt the same practices.

Green Customer and Supplier Integration for Competitive Advantage: The Mediation Effect of Sustainable Product Innovation

The purpose of this study is two-fold: first is to examine the direct effect of green customer integration, green supplier integration, and new product flexibility on sustainable green product innovation (henceforth sustainable innovation), and the second is to assess the mediating role of sustainable green product innovation in the relationship of the independent variables on competitive advantage of the firm. To test these relationships, a quantitative method is used, employing a cross-sectional survey targeting the senior managers of the manufacturing sector in Jordan. Out of 750 surveys administered to respondents, 378 complete responses were obtained, yielding a response rate of 50.4%. Covariance-based structural equation modelling (CBSEM) using AMOS 28 is utilized to analyse the data. The results suggest that green customer integration, green supplier integration, and new product flexibility have a significant impact on sustainable green product innovation. The results also suggest that sustainable green product innovation has a significant mediating effect on the relationship between the three predictor variables and competitive advantage. In addition, new product flexibility partially mediates the relationship between green supplier integration and sustainable green product innovation.
