Sustainability Education Design and Environmental Awareness in Madrasah Education within the framework of Islamic Education Management

Islamic education management has an important role in the progress of the Madrasah as a place to educate students to have awareness of sustainable life and environmental awareness. One of the efforts is to build an integrated management framework in Madrasah education. This article focuses on explaining the educational steps. Sustainability and environmental awareness, as well as the role of Islamic education management in supporting the effectiveness of achieving Sustainable Education. This research uses a literature or library research method, with the direction of critically reviewing or reviewing knowledge, ideas, or findings contained in the academic-oriented literature, to formulate theoretical and methodological contributions related to the practice of sustainability and environmental awareness in education in Madrasahs within the framework of Islamic education management. The results of the study show that; 1) the concept of education sustainability and environmental awareness include economic, environmental, and social aspects where in the framework of Islamic education, being responsible for nature and the environment is not only a contemporary need but also part of religious teachings so that humans can become caliphs (caretakers) on earth; 2) steps for sustainability education and environmental awareness through an effective educational approach and active participation of students to produce positive behavior and attitudes in everyday life; and 3) the framework of Islamic Education management ineducationsustainability and environmental awareness are focused on development of leadership character based on Islamic values to have a social impact to prepare students to become ethical leaders in the global community. The findings of the study indicate that education in Madrasah is a strategic vehicle for educating and training awareness of sustainable living and environmental awareness integrated into Islamic values.

Implementation of Blue Economy to Increase Lobster Production through Natural Feeding Efficiency

Community Service Activities entitled Freshwater Lobster and Silkworm Cultivation, were carried out from September to November 2024. The need for freshwater lobster feed that is difficult to obtain makes natural feed such as silkworm cultivation, an alternative to be used as feed for freshwater lobster cultivation. In addition, Freshwater Lobster cultivation is still very rarely carried out in the Gorontalo area, thus providing opportunities and benefits for inmates to be able to become independent after leaving prison. The need for freshwater lobster feed that is difficult to obtain makes natural feed for larvae/fry such as silkworms, an alternative to be used as feed for freshwater lobster cultivation. This PKM activity is a new hope for inmates to get a sustainable livelihood and income.

Enhancing livelihood resilience through hybrid ecological compensation: evidence from Potatso National Park, China

Abstract Balancing biodiversity conservation and the socioeconomic well-being of ethnic minority communities presents a significant challenge in protected areas (PAs). Ecological compensation (EC) is a crucial policy instrument for improving the livelihood of affected residents, but its application in ethnic minority-dominant regions is complicated by cultural differences and fragile economic foundations. This study evaluates the impact of an innovative hybrid EC mechanism, integrating cash payment, employment support, and education incentive, on the livelihood resilience of ethnic minority groups and identifies the most cost-effective mechanism. Using field data from rural households in Potatso National Park, analyzed through hierarchical multiple regression and scenario simulations within the Sustainable Livelihood Framework, the study finds that: (i) hybrid EC mechanisms significantly improve overall livelihoods, with households receiving employment support and education incentive showing 0.074 and 0.052 higher average livelihood score, respectively (on a 0–1 scale); (ii) different EC types have varied effects across households; and (iii) hybrid EC mechanisms increase social benefits by 6.97%–37.65%, with only a 1.30%–20.15% cost increase compared to baseline scenario. The findings highlight the need for diversified and optimized EC policies to improve livelihood resilience and maximize cost-effectiveness in PAs.

Genetic Diversity and Phylogenetic Analysis of the Endangered Transylvanian Pinzgau Cattle: A Key Resource for Biodiversity Conservation and the Sustainability of Livestock Production

Animal biodiversity is essential for maintaining the functionality of local food systems and ensuring sustainable livelihoods. Starting in 2000, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (F.A.O.) has drawn attention to the decline in cattle populations, including the Transylvanian Pinzgau breed from Romania. Renowned for its hardiness, adaptability, and enhanced resistance to diseases and climate change, the Transylvanian Pinzgau is regarded as an important genetic asset for advancing livestock production. As a result, tracking genetic diversity has become a key focus in breeding programs, particularly for small, endangered local populations that play a vital role in regional agro-ecological systems. This research paper sought to assess the genetic diversity of a group of 24 head of cattle from the Transylvania region by analyzing two mtDNA markers, cytochrome b and D-loop sequences, both widely recognized for their relevance and importance in the analysis of genetic diversity of cattle and phylogenetic studies. The findings, derived through statistical analysis of nucleotide sequences using specialized software, indicated that the analyzed cattle are part of the ancestral T haplogroup, with a direct lineage tracing back to Bos taurus. This information can aid in developing crossbreeding programs focused on conserving essential genetic resources, improving other cattle breeds, and protecting biodiversity.

Sustainable livelihood development and cultural preservation through agricultural tourism: local community perspectives from Dak Lak province, Vietnam

This study conducted in collaboration with the local community focused on sustainable agricultural tourism development in Dak Lak, Vietnam. Using a qualitative research method, we conducted in-depth interviews with 29 households and agricultural cooperatives, combined with case studies. The results showed that agricultural tourism, a product of our joint efforts, played a significant role in diversifying livelihood sources and contributing to the preservation of ethnic and cultural identity. However, the sustainable development of this sector was hindered by limitations in infrastructure, lack of investment and uneven management capacity. Based on these findings, we propose specific policies and solutions to promote sustainable agricultural tourism development and support rural communities in the context of economic transition.

The impact of lifestyle on environmental factors: An empirical analysis of French citizens’ behaviour towards environment

Several studies have been developed to show the importance of household carbon emissions and further investigate their sources and driving factors. These studies have paid attention to the impact of household behaviour with regard to energy use and introduced the concept of lifestyle into the study of personal carbon emissions including income, household size, and household structure. Despite the abundance of studies in the literature, it is quite surprising to note the scarcity of studies in France that address the impact of lifestyle on the environment and climate change. We use a nationwide dataset that provides a high-quality nationwide comprehensive survey of French lifestyle and their behaviour towards the environment. The results of this paper highlight the important and significant impact of the lifestyle of French citizens on transport, energy use, consumption, food waste, and clothing. Moreover, they allow assessing the impact of lifestyle on environmental factors in order to manage the harmful effect of climate change on French citizens. Therefore, this study provides decision-makers with extensive valuable information for promoting environmentally sustainable lifestyles and consumption.

Sustainability Practices Among Accounting Students: a Study of SDG Implementation at Universitas Padjadjaran

Objective: This study explores how sustainable lifestyles are cultivated among accounting students and examines the role of the university ecosystem in supporting this behavior. It focuses on the relationship between students' understanding of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their perceptions of university sustainable governance. Theoretical Framework: The study is grounded in sustainable education and governance, emphasizing the university’s role in fostering sustainability through curriculum design and institutional policies. The SDGs are used as a benchmark to evaluate students' awareness and engagement. Method: Data were collected from 88 undergraduate accounting students at Padjadjaran University, Indonesia, via an online survey. Mann-Whitney U-test non-parametric tests were used to identify significant differences in sustainable behaviors across student groups, and multiple regression analysis explored the relationship between sustainable lifestyles, SDG knowledge, and perceptions of university governance. Results and Discussion: The findings show that students have a limited understanding of the SDGs, likely due to a lack of sustainability-focused activities. Their perception of the university’s sustainable governance is moderate, and students have not fully embraced sustainable practices. However, higher SDG knowledge and positive views on governance are associated with more sustainable behaviors. Research Implications: The study highlights the need for integrating SDG-related content into university curricula and improving governance to foster sustainable lifestyle habits. Originality/Value: This research provides empirical evidence on how universities can shape sustainable behaviors, focusing on accounting students in Indonesia.

An investigation of Agriculture Knowledge Sharing through Indigenous Communication Systems: Insights from Ethnic Communities

Developing countries like India are having latest methods of communication, but their effective utilization by people who are less exposed is doubtful. In rural areas indigenous means of communication still play a vital role in social functioning, maintenance and social change. A study was employed with a qualitative research design to explore the indigenous communication systems of four ethnic communities (Ahom, Kachari, Mising and Deori) in Dhemaji district of Assam. The total respondents for the study was one hundred (100) comprising both male and female to capture gender-specific roles in agricultural communication. Focus group discussions, interviews, and auto-ethnographic observations were employed, ensuring a participatory approach to collect data from four selected villages across two culturally diverse blocks. Findings reveal that folk songs such as Bihu songs, Oi-nitom, and Bisugeet encapsulate agricultural processes and seasonal transitions, ensuring the preservation and transmission of traditional knowledge. The rituals like Narasiga Sabah, Nakathia Sisha, and Guch Luwa not only serve as cultural markers but also communicate critical agricultural practices to farmers. Similarly, proverbs and riddles acted as mnemonic devices for agricultural techniques and ecological wisdom. The study concludes that integrating these indigenous practices with modern extension systems can significantly enhance rural communication strategies. The findings of the present study hold a great potential in the field of communication for development research as well as for planning and dissemination of need based information among rural families for agricultural development that elevate sustainable rural livelihoods.

Identification of Risk Zones During Infrastructure Construction and Maintenance Using Satellite SAR Data for Sustainable Urban Areas in South Korea

Satellite data have emerged as a widely used tool for global research. In particular, satellite data aid in overcoming long-term observational challenges caused by seasonal effects, facilitating comprehensive monitoring of large regions and simplifying infrastructure maintenance. However, in Korea, the application of satellite SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) data within the construction sector remains relatively limited. This study used satellite SAR data to analyze the effects of infrastructure (underground roads and subway systems) currently under construction in Korea on the surrounding ground surface, in order to identify risk zones. This study explored methods for continuously monitoring extensive areas over long distances and selecting potential risk zones. The results indicated substantial ground displacements at specific locations and seasonal changes. Furthermore, past and current satellite SAR data were overlapped to facilitate a time-series analysis. The results confirmed that satellite SAR can improve the monitoring of construction projects in Korea and provide valuable information that can contribute to enhancing maintenance efforts, including near-future ground displacement data. The results are expected to help citizens maintain a safe and sustainable life in urban areas.

Effects of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Entry into Force on Aquatic Products Trade Among Parties

Asia accounted for 167.1 million tons of global fisheries and aquaculture production, 75 percent of the world’s total. Seafood, especially aquaculture products, is a dominant and growing sector and crucial in the Asia-Pacific region for ensuring global food security, supporting sustainable livelihoods, reducing poverty for small-scale fisheries, and promoting environmental sustainability. However, amidst the current backdrop of the World Trade Organization (WTO)‘s inefficiency and dysfunctional mechanism, coupled with a slowdown in global economic growth and the resurgence of trade unilateralism and protectionism, these challenges have created significant barriers to trade, limiting market access and hindering the sustainable growth of the seafood industry. The implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) offers Asia-Pacific economies a promising opportunity to expand trade and stimulate economic growth sustainably. In this study, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the potential effects of the RCEP on aquatic products trade among the parties. A key marginal contribution in our study is that we adjusted the existing tariff rates under other FTAs to the same period as tariff rates under RCEP and compared the concession rates between these different FTAs to clearly illustrate the potential tariff effects of RCEP. On the non-tariff side, we analyze specific provisions in the RCEP agreement that could potentially affect aquatic products trade and evaluate their possible impacts. The results showed that, as of 2022, in almost all RCEP parties, the average tariffs under the RCEP agreement are generally higher than those under other existing FTAs, which indicates that the tariff concession efforts under RCEP are limited for most parties. However, due to certain progressiveness compared to other FTAs in terms of its provisions on non-tariff measures, such as rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS) regulations, etc., RCEP has the potential to benefit a broader range of countries and products, making market access more convenient and inclusive for the seafood industry.

Livelihood adaptation strategies of farming households to land acquisition: A case study in Vietnam

The livelihoods of households affected by land acquisition in rural Vietnam are crucial for sustainable development and community resilience. This study employs the sustainable livelihoods approach, which recognises the interconnectedness between various factors shaping livelihood outcomes, to investigate factors behind livelihood changes among 474 farm households affected by land acquisition in rural Vietnam. By applying Multinomial Logit (MNL) regression, this paper delves into how personal and household characteristics influence the transition from farming to non-farming activities in agrarian settings. Our findings reveal the diverse and multifaceted impacts of various factors such as gender, age, educational level, household size, household labour force, and the extent of land loss on livelihood strategy choices. This study offers nuanced insights that can guide policymakers and practitioners to design effective interventions that promote sustainable livelihoods and enhance community resilience amidst the challenges posed by land acquisition and rural transformation.

Sustainable synergy: Unveiling the symbiotic relationship between personal lifestyles and corporate sustainable business practices

This study, conducted among 596 employees across various industries, investigates the interplay between personal sustainable lifestyle scores and corporate sustainable business practices, including energy consumption and renewable energy use. The research reveals a strong correlation between individuals’ personal sustainable lifestyles and their organisations' sustainable business practices. Notably, employees consistently practising personal sustainable behaviours, including energy efficiency, tend to work in companies with robust sustainability initiatives and low-carbon strategies. Women, in particular, displayed higher engagement in sustainable behaviours. Age-related trends suggest younger employees prioritise corporate sustainability policies more than older counterparts, who focus more on personal sustainable behaviour. Among all studied sectors the production sector stands out for its high sustainable lifestyle and sustainable business practices, reflecting the impact of industry-specific sustainability trends like lean and green operations. On the one hand, sustainable lifestyle involves making choices and taking actions that enable rational consumption of goods and products, protecting natural resources, using renewable energy sources, and utilising low-emission transport means. These findings underscore the critical link between personal sustainability habits and organisational sustainability business practices, highlighting a significant avenue for promoting sustainability and reduced energy consumption in the workplace and at home.

The internal braincase anatomy of Thalattosuchus superciliosus – with implications for the endocranial evolution of metriorhynchid crocodylomorphs

ABSTRACT Thalattosuchian crocodylomorphs underwent a major evolutionary transition, evolving from semiaquatic forms reminiscent of extant crocodylians, into pelagic marine forms with flippers, a tail fin and smooth scaleless skin. These fully aquatic forms – the Metriorhynchidae – evolved a novel suite of endocranial anatomies hypothesised to be related to living in saltwater. However, much remains to be discovered about the evolution of these internal braincase structures. Herein, we describe the endocranial anatomy of an early diverging metriorhynchid, Thalattosuchus superciliosus, using microfocus computed tomography (μCT) data and three-dimensional modelling. We compared it against geosaurine and metriorhynchine metriorhynchids, as well as the early diverging metriorhynchoid Pelagosaurus. We found that non-geosaurine metriorhynchids differ from geosaurines in having less laterally expanded cerebral hemispheres, shallower curvatures of the brain’s dorsal margin, and lacking the ventral deflection of the pneumatic diverticulum ventral to the pituitary fossa chamber. However, early-diverging metriorhynchids have well-defined otoccipital diverticula and lacked the ‘extreme pelagic’ endosseous labyrinth morphology. We hypothesise that early metriorhynchids were not adapted to a sustained pursuit lifestyle. Moreover, we posit that within both metriorhynchid subfamilies there was parallel evolution towards becoming pursuit predators.

Assessing the Implications of Deforestation and Climate Change on Rural Livelihood in Ghana: a Multidimensional Analysis and Solution-Based Approach.

The Ashanti region in Ghana, abundant in natural resources such as forests and vegetation biomes, significantly supports the livelihoods of a significant portion of the population. The sustainable management of forest resources remains a significant challenge to achieving environmental and economic growth and poverty alleviation. The study aims to identify the drivers of deforestation and assess its impact on the livelihoods of the poor and vulnerable communities in the Ashanti region. The study utilized qualitative and space-based data to examine the patterns of vegetation cover and deforestation from 2000 to 2020. The results revealed moderate to sparse vegetation in Ashanti from 2002, 2005, 2011, 2015, 2017, and 2018, with no vegetation in the northcentral part, attributed to climate change, agricultural practices, government policies, and deforestation-related disasters. The study found a significant correlation (R² = 0.8197) between years and deforestation areas, especially in 2018 at around 16,000 Sqkm, indicating an exponential increase with severe implications for sustainable livelihoods. Much of these changes were reflected in 2020 with a high peak of deforestation towards the southeastern parts of the region. Additionally, the results show that the poor groups are not passive actors but are actively involved in identifying systems and processes through which to build their adaptive capacity and resilience to environmental and climate change-induced changes. The findings provide evidence-based and all-inclusive approaches that would encourage vulnerable and marginalized groups to participate in the co-production and co-creation of policies and strategies. This outcome is geared towards transformative and sustainable communities while ensuring efficient and effective response and recovery capacities of deforested lands.

A Perception of Tribal Secondary Students Towards Sustainable Development

Jharkhand, the 28th state of India, is known for its rich natural resources and tribal population. It is also not untouched by environmental challenges. Despite the abundance of forest area, deforestation remains a serious problem. Due to illegal felling and increasing population pressure, the area of forests is continuously decreasing. Here not only biodiversity is harmed, but the local community, especially the tribal community, is also being adversely affected. The main objective of the study is to find out the perceptions of tribal secondary school students towards. sustainable development to prioritize socioeconomic development. The research design/methodology is based on qualitative and quantitative data collection through descriptive research. The idea of studying the secondary tribal students of Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand state came to mind as it is a backward tribal community district. It will easily reflect their attitude towards measuring forest conservation and livelihood development, and has focused on the social-capital and cultural society of the tribe in their livelihood. It shows how non-wood forest products can be used commercially and industrially without affecting the natural resources. In this way, the concepts of sustainable development will be highlighted. The study defines how the people of this community have contributed significantly to the government revenue through sustainable livelihood and helped in generating income for the weaker section of the community.

Application of circular economy principles to midstream infrastructural sector: A review of strategies for waste minimization and recycling

Circular economy in midstream operations promotes resource reuse, waste reduction, and sustainable pipeline life cycle management. The transition toward a sustainable oil and gas industry needs to be enabled through the adoption of this concept, especially in the midstream sector, where environmental impact is high. This review focuses on practices in the waste minimization and recycling strategy of midstream infrastructure, including material recycling, reuse of processing debris and the conversion of waste into valuables. It underlines potential lifecycle environmental savings and resource efficiency, besides emphasizing on how innovative approaches are important in mitigating the ecological footprint of midstream activities. It also points out the knowledge gaps on practical integration of the circular economy principles within this very industry and came up with actionable recommendations for industry stakeholders. Through the analysis of the most recent published literatures and case studies of successful implementation, it has been indicated that many companies that use these techniques have succeeded in reducing waste output by over 30%. Conclusively, full scrutiny by this review has helped to attain a holistic approach towards sustainability in the oil and gas industry through wider adoption of recycling and sustainable practices in midstream operations.

Critical Elements and Theoretical Logic of Horizontal Transfer Payment System for Eco-Compensation: A Study Based on Grounded Theory

In recent years, how to coordinate the sustainable production and life of human society with the protection of ecological environment has become particularly important. This paper reviewed and analyzed the existing Chinese and English literature on Horizontal transfer payment system for eco-compensation (or hereinafter referred to as ECITPS), based on which this paper applied Grounded Theory to study the critical elements and theoretical logic of the System, exploring its formation process and logical procedure, and constructing a theoretical model of this System. It was found that the theoretical model of eco-compensation Horizontal transfer payment system is mainly divided into three stages, namely, the early, middle and late stages. Moreover, the logic of the ECITPS as a whole was the validation of PDCA Deming Cycle Theory, while the previous research on Horizontal transfer payment for eco-compensation was more focused on the specific object, with a lack of the overall macro understand of the theoretical framework for the system. Therefore, this paper assisted to promote the improvement of the ECITPS from the macro theoretical framework, and provided a reference idea for the development of the transfer payment field in the future period.

Challenges and Opportunities of Tractor Adoption by Smallholder Farmers in Gambella Region, Ethiopia

Tractor adoption by smallholder farmers in the Gambella region is essential for increasing agricultural productivity, improving food security, and promoting sustainable livelihoods. The sampling methods employed included purposive sampling to select kebelles and a lottery method for sample respondents. Primary data were collected through surveys, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, focus groups, and field observations, while secondary data were obtained from government statistics, academic publications, non-governmental organization reports, market information, and historical records. Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics, such as frequencies and percentages. Regarding opportunities for tractor adoption, the study found that 9% of smallholder farmers used tractors to improve soil health, 20% to reduce labor costs, and 16% to enhance market access, 7% to reduce post-harvest losses, and 48% to increase productivity. Conversely, the study identified major constraints, with 27% citing high initial investment, 40% noting lack of credit access, 18% reporting limited technical expertise, and 15% indicating inadequate infrastructure as barriers to tractor adoption. To maximize adoption opportunities, government agencies and private companies should offer financial incentives and loans to support farmers’ tractor investments. Additionally, to address these adoption challenges, government, local, and non-governmental organizations should provide subsidies, low-interest loans, and technical training programs to enable smallholder farmers to purchase or rent tractors, thus enhancing access to mechanized services and improving agricultural productivity and efficiency.

Manajemen Kurikulum Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila untuk Mewujudkan Imtaq pada Siswa di SDN Warungdowo I Pasuruan

Along with the change from the 2013 curriculum to an independent curriculum at the start of the 2022/2023 academic year. SDN Warungdowo I is one of the basic education institutions in Pasuruan Regency that was selected by the Ministry of Education and Culture to take part in the Class 2 Mobilization School Program. For this reason, researchers chose this institution to be the place for research on the Project for Strengthening the Profile of Pancasila Students (P5). The aim of this research is to reveal the design, implementation and results of the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project curriculum to realize imtaq for students at SDN Warungdowo I Pasuruan. Case study research method, because it can describe contemporary empirical research in a real life context. The research results show that the design of the P5 curriculum goes through a module planning process, organizing it using a block system at the end of the semester, and the P5 theme of the institution is a sustainable lifestyle with an evaluation system using assessment rubrics, and student performance. Implement P5 by carrying out activities according to the P5 module for each phase, using an assessment rubric with a checklist system, the P5 process goes through the stages of orientation, contextualization, action and reflection. Based on the recap of the assessment rubric, the results of its implementation in the Imtaq dimension with elements of morals towards nature reached 53%, the mutual cooperation dimension 27%, and the creative dimension 31%. Thus, it can be concluded that curriculum design and implementation of P5 play an important role in realizing the Imtaq dimension in students.
