Green supply chain and market orientation: Catalysts for sustainable green knowledge management

The purpose of this study is to concurrently test the effect of green market orientation and green supply chain management on establishing green knowledge management among Malaysian manufacturing companies. To empirically test the model, the authors developed quantitative research by collecting data from 115 manufacturing organisations operating in Malaysia. Partial least squares structural equation modelling was used to analyse the data. The results of the study reveal that green market orientation has a significant and direct positive effect on green knowledge management. Equally, green supply chain management has a direct positive and significant effect on green knowledge management. The findings of this study provide insights for practitioners, academia, and policymakers on how to use the selected variables to improve the sustainability performance of organisations.

Incorporating sustainability in organizational strategy: a framework for enhancing sustainable knowledge management and green innovation

PurposeThis study investigates the crucial link between sustainable practices and organizational development, focusing on sustainable knowledge management (SKM), green innovation (GI) and corporate sustainable development (CSD) in diverse Pakistani organizations.Design/methodology/approachThis study employs a comprehensive research methodology involving advanced statistical techniques, such as confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling and hierarchical linear modeling. These methods are instrumental in exploring the complex interrelationships between SKM, GI, moderating factors and CSD.FindingsThis research generates significant findings and actively contributes to sustainable development. The following sections (Sections 4 and 5) delve into the specific findings and in-depth discussions, shedding light on how industry regulation, organizational sustainability priorities, workplace culture collaboration and alignment between green culture and knowledge management practices influence the relationships between SKM, GI and CSD. These findings provide valuable insights for the research community and organizations striving for sustainability.Practical implicationsThe study’s findings have practical implications for organizations seeking to enhance their sustainability efforts and embrace a socially and environmentally conscious approach to organizational growth.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature on sustainable practices and organizational development. Researchers and business people can learn a lot from it because it uses advanced econometric models in new ways and focuses on the link between knowledge management, GI and sustainable corporate development.

The Confronts of Edutourism in the Post-COVID-19 Pandemic Era: A Malaysian Perspective

COVID-19 triggered a crisis and sliced through every facet of humankind. People were advised to practise physical distancing, and most educational institutions have integrated different digital technologies and virtual learning environments (VLE) to limit the likelihood of pandemic pedagogy. This study sought to investigate the challenges of edutourism in Malaysia for sustaining viable education during this delicate time. Therefore, it examines the determinants of sustainable education, perceived value, risk assessment, quality service, and knowledge management in choosing institutions to resume edutourism. Based on a non-probability survey sample of 308 international students in Malaysia, the data were analysed with SPSS for fundamental analyses and SEM-AMOS for hypothesis testing. The results demonstrated that most predictors highly influenced the choice of the institution; thus, the government must acquire appropriate pedagogical knowledge to assure learning coherence. This study has presented a collection of influencing factors that impact how students adjust their objectives when choosing academic institutions in Malaysia.

Successful organisations prioritise product quality and customer satisfaction. Non-financial indicators are crucial for measuring performance, requiring specific financial and technology management knowledge. Effective knowledge management and entrepreneurial activity significantly impact performance, vital to the country’s economic factors. Electricity is crucial to society’s development. Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydropower, and biomass can generate sustainable electricity. Managing environmental, social, and economic aspects is essential for sustainable societal and virtual development. In this study, the central element of novelty is associated with the dependent variable Nominal Labour Productivity per Employee. This research shows that effective knowledge management impacts a company’s business performance. Based on secondary data from various sources, we have used factor analysis to assess the interrelationship between the factors and econometric dimensionalities. Accompanied by this econometric approach, the research methodology aims to present hybrid models based on econometric techniques and artificial intelligence (AI) networks. Based on the principal component method analysis results, we show the interdependence of 30 variables in the micro and macro environment. The new components of the correlated variables show how knowledge and innovation are related to the economic performance of society, and nominal employee productivity is a valuable indicator for measuring economic efficiency. Nevertheless, AI, a knowledge management product, provides helpful comments on the econometric results.

Exploring the Intersection of Knowledge Management and Spirituality in Higher Education Institutions

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have the fundamental role of teaching, research, and interaction with society, which are the three main vertices in the creation and dissemination of knowledge. HEIs can enhance their sustainability and competitiveness by effectively managing the knowledge of each collaborator and creating more value. In this way, HEIs lay the foundation for sustainable growth and extend their competitive advantages. However, it requires motivated and committed collaborators aligned with the mission, values, and objectives of the organization. Therefore, we suggest that the incorporation of spirituality can promote innovation, organizational sustainability, and increase knowledge management practices. To address the research gap on the integration of KM and spirituality in HEIs, we conducted a literature review using three databases, Web of Science, Scopus, and EBSCO. The review revealed that the integration of KM and organizational spirituality has not been studied in an integrated way. As such, we present suggestions for future research and practice, emphasizing the need for HEIs to focus on managing knowledge and incorporating spirituality into their practices to enhance their competitiveness and sustainability. Accordingly, this study contributes to the literature by awarding and discussing KM and spirituality as two key components of HEIs. Once, incorporating spirituality can promote innovation, organizational sustainability, and increase knowledge management practices. Moreover, this study provides valuable insights for HEIs to improve their management practices, promote sustainability, and enhance their competitive advantages.

The Challenges of Banco Crédito Agrícola in Portugal to the European Commission's Sustainable Finance Action Plan

This article relates to the necessary changes that Banco Crédito Agrícola in Portugal must consider; at the level of strategy, processes and organizational culture, to meet the European Commission Action Plan for sustainable finance, published in 2018 (European Commission, 2018). The Action Plan obliges financial institutions to redirect capital flows towards more sustainable investments to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth, manage financial risks arising from climate change, resource depletion, environmental degradation, and social issues, as well as promote transparency and long-term vision in economic and financial activities (European Commission, 2018).
 The study seeks to give greater relevance to the approach on Resource-Based View and Dynamic Capabilities supported by knowledge management as the main sustainable competitive advantage for Banking in Portugal to meet the Action Plan requirements described above.
 Firstly, qualitative, and secondly quantitative methodologies were used. The qualitative part was made by analyzing the sustainability reports of the 2013-2020 period of Banco Crédito Agrícola and by interviewing key employee stakeholders of the institution. The quantitative part was made by applying questionnaires to two different samples; one representing the Portuguese population and the other, consisted of employees of Banco Crédito Agrícola based in Portugal. 
 We conclude that there is a relationship between sustainable finance and knowledge management in the banking sector. This relationship implies a need for strategic, cultural, and process changes in Banco Crédito Agrícola, in the context of its organizational development.

Social Media Analysis to Enhance Sustainable Knowledge Management: A Concise Literature Review

Although knowledge management relying on data from social networks has become an integral part of common practices, there needs to be a well-defined body of knowledge that explicitly addresses the process and the value generated. Sustainable knowledge management practices, which promote responsible and ethical knowledge sharing between different stakeholders, can also be facilitated through social media. This can foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation while considering the social implications of knowledge sharing. The main goal of this study is to critically and holistically discuss the impact of social media analysis in the knowledge management process holistically and maximize its value in a given context. More concretely, we conducted a systematic literature review (2012–2022) based on the PRISMA guidelines. We first approached the ideal phases of the knowledge management process and then discussed key issues and challenges from an application perspective. Overall, the study points out the positive impact of social network analysis on knowledge sharing, creativity and productivity, knowledge formulation, building trust, and cognitive capital. Additionally, value is provided in knowledge acquisition by simplifying and massively gathering information, reducing uncertainty and ambiguity, and organizing knowledge through storage, retrieval, and classification practices. At an application level, such knowledge may improve the quality of services and encourage creativity. Finally, this study analyzed specific domains, such as healthcare, marketing, politics, tourism, and event management, focusing on the potential and added value.

DESCRIPTIVE ATTRIBUTES OF ANALYSIS USE CASES IN THE DATA-DRIVEN VALIDATION OF ELEMENTS IN THE SYSTEM OF OBJECTIVES

AbstractUsage data of reference systems can be analyzed in the development process for the validation of system elements. The process model for data-driven validation of elements in the system of objectives aids developers in performing such data analyses. The conducted studies show that the basis for an efficient analysis process is a common understanding of the system and the goal of the analysis. Therefore, a template was derived over the course of case studies describing the elements in the system of objectives. The template covers the three descriptive dimensions general information, technical system and data. It allows a comprehensive description of analysis use cases. On average it takes 11 minutes for developers to aggregate all necessary information and consequently fill out the template. An A/B-Test confirmed the comprehensibility and applicability of the template even for developers of different domain knowledge. Through its contribution to a sustainable knowledge management the template provides an added value for the developers for conducting analysis.

Factors inhibiting Sustainable Knowledge Management in Nigeria

Knowledge is a vital resource in most organizations. This is because it has the potential to contribute to competitive advantage, and corporate governance and ensures growth performance. However, with the paucity of information and knowledge generated on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects in Nigeria, it is hard to measure the performance of such projects in terms of accountability, transparency, and openness. Therefore, this study examined the factors inhibiting the implementation of sustainable knowledge management in PPP projects in Nigeria. The study utilized the clustering sampling method to select the research partakers in this study which included construction professionals, contractors, concessionaires, financiers, and the public sector. The sample size was calculated using the simple random sampling method. The study focused on Lagos State and Abuja (F.C.T.). The study utilized a survey research design. A well-structured questionnaire instrument was designed for the study. A total of three hundred and ninety-three (393) research participants took part in this study. The findings of the study revealed that Microsoft Office tools, paper-based storage, and lessons learned were the most frequently used knowledge management strategies in managing the knowledge generated on PPP projects in Nigeria. However, the main factors inhibiting the implementation of sustainable knowledge management in PPP projects in Nigeria were limited funds for promoting knowledge management of PPP projects, entrenched corruption in the public space, and low ICT training among PPP stakeholders. The study revealed statistically significant factors inhibiting the implementation of sustainable knowledge management in PPP projects in Nigeria. The study recommended the need to increase funding and training of PPP stakeholders on sustainable knowledge management strategies specifically for PPP projects in Nigeria.

Intellectual capital and sustainable startup performance: A bibliometric analysis

Intellectual capital (IC) and sustainable startup performance (SP) are the two pillars required for the survival of ventures. Besides, the competitiveness of new ventures is ensured by the importance of intangible assets within the firm as well as strategies implemented by the startup founders. This study aims to map the conceptual structure of research on intellectual capital and sustainable startup performance conducted between 2002 and 2021 using bibliometric citation analysis. For that purpose, 292 papers from the Scopus database are scrutinized further to determine the publication activities of the concerned area. Vosviewer and Excel software were used to analyze the data. It is found that the publication activities of IC and SP are a relatively new concept that emerged in 2002 and is showing a favorable trend. The study discovered that most intellectual capital studies focus on sustainable startup performance, innovative capabilities, and knowledge management practices.

From resources to sustainability: a practice-based view of net zero economy implementation in small and medium business-to-business firms

PurposeThis study examines the effect of resources (e.g. tangible resources, human skills and intangible resources) that are utilized as a bundle of standard practices on sustainable net zero economy implementation and their further impact on financial, environmental and social performance among small- and medium-level enterprises in business markets. The moderating effect of big data analytical intelligence is also examined.Design/methodology/approachThe samples were selected from the paper and chemical manufacturing industries of South Africa. The data analysis was performed using variance-based structural equation modeling.FindingsThe results show that tangible resources, human skills and intangible resources positively influence sustainable net zero economy adoption. However, intangible resources have a more substantial influence on sustainable net zero economy implementation. This shows that adopting a sustainable net zero economy depends more on a bundle of common practices, including sustainability culture, employee training and knowledge management, and managers must create the necessary action plans accordingly. In addition, sustainable net zero economy adoption positively influences financial performance, environmental performance and social performance. However, sustainable net zero economy adoption has a more substantial influence on social performance. Therefore, implementing a net zero economy will be more advantageous to society and to local communities.Practical implicationsTo achieve a sustainable net zero economy, managers should recognize the significance of resource management. While managing tangible resources and human skills is crucial, intangible resources, such as culture and organizational learning, require more attention. Additionally, the ability of small- and medium-sized enterprises to explore, store, share and apply knowledge is crucial to achieving net zero. Therefore, managers should make use of Industry 4.0-based digital technologies for effective knowledge management. Moreover, net zero economy adoption can significantly enhance societal performance. Hence, while making budgeting decisions, managers must consider the potential of the firm's resources to improve social performance.Originality/valueThis study is the first to investigate the impact of human skills and tangible and intangible resources on the adoption of a sustainable net zero economy by companies, using empirical evidence. The research expands on the concept of the practice-based view (PBV) in the implementation of sustainable net zero economies by small- and medium-sized business-to-business enterprises.

Knowledge Management and Blockchain Technology for Organizational Sustainability

Goal: This paper develops a conceptual model representing existing relations between blockchain, knowledge management, and sustainability. Design/Methodology/Approach: A systematic literature review was carried out, and a total portfolio of 43 articles was obtained. These articles were then analyzed using the content analysis technique. Results: Identifying the existing relationships between blockchain and knowledge management and between knowledge management and sustainability was possible. This information allowed the elaboration of the conceptual model, which resulted in the identification of the roles of each theme when related to each other. Limitations of the investigation: The limitations refer to the diversity and complexity of the themes, which made it necessary to limit the search for articles to two databases; the temporality of the research due to the evolution of the blockchain; and the failure to consider the risks arising from the adoption of technology and the negative aspects of the relationships between the themes. Practical Implications: With this article, companies studying blockchain adoption, looking for ways to improve knowledge management, or seeking to adjust their impacts on sustainability, can find information that helps in decision making. Originality/ Value: This article proposes a conceptual model that explains the relationship between three current and increasingly essential topics for organizations. To this end, it seeks to identify in the literature how the application of the first (blockchain) improves the execution of the second (knowledge management) and how this impacts the third (sustainability).

From incubator’s knowledge transfer to sustainability start-ups’ impact: a case study in a French support program

PurposeSustainability start-ups introduce business models that address current environmental and social challenges. However, to reach their mission, they need to integrate the intention of delivering such impact since their formulation. Business incubators show promise in supporting them in this process by enhancing their access to resources and knowledge during the early stage. For these reasons, this paper aims to investigate the transfer of knowledge in a support program, outlining what knowledge is transferred in the program and through which activities for encouraging the generation of sustainability start-ups’ impact.Design/methodology/approachThe present paper is supported by a qualitative case study methodology based on primary data (interviews) and secondary data (internal and external documents) related to a French support program.FindingsThe study shows that the support program transfers explicit and tacit knowledge for encouraging the generation of sustainability impact, throughout three main phases: awareness, identification and assessment.Research limitations/implicationsThe limitation concerns the analysis of a French support program and the focus on sustainability start-ups. Future research lines will study other and more traditional business incubators to confirm and possibly enrich the results.Practical implicationsThe study has managerial implications for incubator managers willing to support sustainable entrepreneurship and for sustainable entrepreneurs who want to find a support program and reach their impact.Social implicationsThe study shows that a sustainability orientation in business incubators can play a role in fostering sustainable development through the creation of new sustainability ventures.Originality/valueThis paper contributes to two different fields: sustainable entrepreneurship support and knowledge management in incubators.

Bridging sustainability knowledge management and supply chain learning: evidence through buyer selection

PurposeTo better understand the supplier's role in promoting supply chain sustainability (SCS), the authors investigated the learning process as it relates to sustainability knowledge. Through the lens of the knowledge-based view, they understand the shift of sustainability knowledge from rhetoric to common knowledge existent between suppliers and buyers.Design/methodology/approachA case study method was employed to study sustainability knowledge learning between a key global coffee supplier and its geographically dispersed buyers. The research was developed with data collected from 2019 through 2021. Interviews and secondary data were analyzed using both deductive and inductive approaches.FindingsResults were organized to demonstrate how the supplier developed and transferred its own sustainability knowledge within supplier–buyer dyads. The authors uncovered that buyer selection was a vital strategy used to appropriate the value created to ensure SCS learning. Four learning stages were analyzed, and while the results indicated that all buyers acquired knowledge, they also showed that only four distributed it. Moreover, different levels of interpretation were identified, two of which were associated with a low level of understanding of the meaning of sustainability knowledge. In addition, the data provided little evidence of organizational memory. All links were guided by common sustainability knowledge learned through multiple learning loops between the supplier's knowledge management and buyers' SCS learning, thus boosting sustainability in the coffee supply chain.Practical implicationsA greater understanding of how sustainability knowledge is learned in supply chains helps managers develop better SCS strategies.Originality/valueUnlike previous research, this paper illustrates that common sustainability knowledge is key to SCS implementation, which is made possible by carefully selecting buyers and by facilitating sustainability knowledge learning through two-way interactions.

Effect of sustainability and ecological knowledge management on knowledge creation and team learning of MICE professional teachers

In face of the waves of globalization, democratization, and knowledge-based and green sustainable economy, schools and MICE professional teachers, in the 21st century, should break through the independent and closed classroom kingdom in the past but, with open attitudes, have themselves become the managers of sustainability, ecological and professional knowledge learning for the sustainable development of schools. Individual knowledge and experience could be accumulated through sustainability, ecological and professional knowledge management and organizational learning to become organizational knowledge to further improve the movement of schools, promote the quality of education, cultivate excellent talents, and enhance national competitiveness and environmentally friendliness. Aiming at universities in Taiwan, university faculty is distributed 350 copies of questionnaire in this study. Total 287 valid copies are retrieved, with the retrieval rate 82%. The research results show significantly positive effects of 1. sustainability, ecological and professional knowledge management on team learning, 2.team learning on knowledge creation, and 3. sustainability, ecological and professional knowledge management on knowledge creation. Finally, according to the results, suggestions are proposed, expecting to have schools comprehend the importance of MICE professional teachers’ sustainability, ecological and professional knowledge management and further propose effective coping strategies to promote the overall performance.

Sustainable human resource management practices in organizational performance: The mediating impacts of knowledge management and work engagement

PURPOSE: Modern business and global organizations are regularly presented with challenges caused by unpredictable competitive environments. Human resource management (HRM) practices give sustainable opportunities for employees to use their abilities and express their enthusiasm to obtain skills and knowledge and to apply them at the workplace with a view to achieving engaged individuals and increasing organizational performance. This article presents a recent study outcome to examine (i) the mediating role of knowledge management and work engagement and (ii) the effect of sustainable HRM practices on organizational performance. METHODOLOGY: 500 self-reported questionnaires were distributed to Jordanian university lecturers (research population) for data collection. The study data were assessed with structural equation modeling (SEM) using IBM-SPSS-AMOS 25.0. FINDINGS: Two pivotal outcomes were identified: (i) sustainable HRM practices, knowledge management, and work engagement were positively associated with organizational performance; (ii) knowledge management and work engagement played a mediating role in the sustainable HRM practice-organizational performance correlation. IMPLICATIONS: Overall, employee cooperation proved essential to optimize organizational performance, specifically during their engagement in sustainable HRM practices and knowledge management. Finally, the research proposed several practical recommendations and interventions on sustainable HRM for future research. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: The research has provided proof of five variable relationships contained in the model. Firstly, organizational performance increased with sustainable HRM practices through knowledge management. Secondly, organizational performance increased with sustainable HRM practices through work engagement. Thirdly, work engagement increased with sustainable HRM through knowledge management. Fourthly, organizational performance increased with knowledge management through work engagement. Fifthly, organizational performance increased with sustainable HRM through knowledge management and work engagement.

Investigation of the Effect of Transformational Leadership, Organization: Commitment, Culture, and Environment on Sustainability Performance Using Knowledge Management (Empirical Study on Marine Transportation and Logistics Companies)

This study aims to investigate the influence of transformational leadership, organizational commitment, organizational culture, and work environment on sustainability performance with the mediation of knowledge management. The investigation was carried out by applying quantitative research methods through conducting a survey in the form of a questionnaire to ship officers who carry out duties at marine transportation and logistics companies that specialize in transporting coal and other mineral resources. There were 500 respondents who were eligible for further processing from 66 companies. Analysis was carried out using SmartPLS software. The analysis consists of descriptive statistics, measurement model evaluation, structural model evaluation, and hypothesis testing. The findings from this investigation show that: Transformational Leadership and Working Environment have a positive effect on Sustainability performance; Organization Culture and Working Environment have a positive effect on Knowledge management; and Knowledge management is proven to mediate Organization Culture and Working Environment on Sustainability performance. Organization Commitment and Organization Culture do not have a positive effect on Sustainability performance. Transformational Leadership and Organization Commitment do not have a positive influence on Knowledge Management. Knowledge management is not proven to mediate Transformational Leadership and Organizational Commitment of maritime transportation and logistics companies on Sustainability performance. Working Environment has a positive effect on Sustainability performance and Knowledge management, likewise Knowledge management mediates Working Environment on Sustainability Performance. The research results contribute to theory by: strengthening the view of leadership theory which confirms that Transformational Leadership contributes positively to Sustainability performance; Organizational Commitment does not have a significant effect on Sustainability Performance, indicating that there needs to be further evaluation on how Organizational Commitment can be improved; expanding understanding of how Organization Culture can support sustainability; the positive influence of the Working Environment on Sustainability Performance emphasizes the importance of creating a Working Environment that supports collaboration, access to knowledge, and innovation in the context of sustainability; confirmation that Knowledge Management plays an important role in achieving Sustainability Performance. And managerial: understand that Transformational Leadership can make a significant contribution to Sustainability Performance; and evaluate how to build a stronger Organizational Commitment to sustainability; strive to develop a culture that supports sustainability goals; creating a Working Environment that supports collaboration, provides access to knowledge, and encourages innovation; recognizes the important role of Knowledge Management in achieving Sustainability Performance.
