Opportunities and Challenges Faced by Women Entrepreneurs for Sustainable Development in India

Purpose: Working women are thriving and rising to prominence in the economy and business environment. Today's women make significant contributions to society's development. Theoretical framework: An empowered woman has more control over her life and her finances. Women's economic independence and self-sufficiency can be greatly aided by training them in the art of entrepreneurship. Growth in business entrepreneurship has the potential to improve women's financial, societal, personal, as well as political standing. Design/methodology/approach: The current study aims to investigate the relationship between female entrepreneurship and women's empowerment in the Chittoor district. Participants are 300 female entrepreneurs from both urban and rural areas. The researcher analyses the issues and difficulties women entrepreneurs experience in operating their enterprises, as well as the supportive elements for women business owners. Findings: Women's empowerment and female entrepreneurship are positively correlated. The majority of female business owners, whether in urban and rural areas, struggle with financial issues and job pressure. Governmental programmes and policies support female entrepreneurs by giving them training, funding, and marketing help. Research, Practical & Social implications: The entrepreneur alters the conditions of supply, combines already-existing resources in novel ways, and therefore establishes another generation of employment. Originality/value: Women's conditions are improved by entrepreneurship, which also helps them become fully involved in the growth and development of their country. This is one of the first studies to provide a detailed account of the women's entrepreneurship research in Chittoor, India.

Another issue that is discussed in this paper involves the challenges and barriers to participation in innovation for people with disabilities like attitudinal barriers, accessibility, and skills development. In conclusion, the paper offers some perspectives and suggestions that might be useful for firms and policymakers wishing to exploit this under-tapped resource. This research article examines the complex and mutually beneficial relationship between the Indian Constitution and corporate social responsibility. Constitution is the foundation of a democratic, equitable, and all-encompassing society. Additionally, CSR has evolved into a key tool for organisations to actively and constructively improve society beyond profit maximisation. Paper explains how these seemingly distinct entities converge and harmonise for communal welfare. With its values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, the Constitution implicitly encourages business to create the nation. This article seeks to identify constitutional provisions that require corporations to align their operations with the sovereign entity's social and budgetary goals. Additionally, it examines landmark legal rulings that strengthened corporate constitutional concepts. The present study also examines the development of CSR in India, from a discretionary act of benevolence to a statutorily imposed set of obligations on corporations under the 2013 Companies Act. Foreign agricultural investment and sustainable development in India: a granger causality analyses

PurposeThe study aims to find the synchronization between foreign agriculture investment (FAI) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to agriculture as classified by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The study tries to find such an association in India over 2 decades from 2001.Design/methodology/approachThe Toda-Yamamoto Granger using the M-Wald test for the non-causality procedure is applied to find the synchronization. Stationarity is tested using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller, Phillips-Perron and Kwiatkowski, Phillips, Schmidt and Shin (KPSS) tests. The Johanson methodology with MacKinnon-Haug-Michelis P-value is employed for the Cointegration test.FindingsThe empirical results indicate that the FAI Granger cause SDG2 “Zero hunger” and “Overall sustainability”, but SDG13 “Climate Change”, SDG6 “Clean water and sanitation”, SDG12 “Responsible production and consumption” and SDG15 “Life on Land” granger cause global investments. Notwithstanding, SDG5 “Gender equality” and SDG14 “Life below water” found no-way causality with FAI. Practical implicationsHost governments should prioritize sector-level sustainable development, notably agricultural SDGs, to attract global investments. Foreign agriculture investment is influenced differently by various SDGs; thus, policymakers should concentrate on specific agricultural SDGs to enhance the flow of capital into the agriculture sector. Global investors should take sustainability into account while framing foreign investment plans, and the supra-national organization may consider global agricultural investments while addressing the problems related to global food security.Originality/valueThe distinguishing feature of the study is that SDGs classified by the FAO from a global investment perspective have not been studied so far.

Abstract: This article examines what has been achieved in India in terms of digital financial inclusion to date and how we may use current technologies to create a more inclusive society by utilizing various digital drives. The various barriers and difficulties that still stand in the way of creating a society that is digitally inclusive are described in this article. This article discusses the evolution of financial inclusion through e-commerce. We have made suggestions for addressing the major issues, highlighting the importance of interaction and transparency among all significant stakeholders in order to establish a digitally inclusive ecosystem and to make India's next wave of digital financial inclusion more successful. It deconstructs the trends and key players that support them, identifies the adoption barriers, and breaks down the trends and key players that support them. An Experimental Study on Partial Replacement of River Sand by Manufactured Sand in Self-Compacting Concrete

Abstract: SCC was first developed in Japan to achieve durable concrete structures in 1980’s. Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is an innovative concrete which can be placed and compacted under its own weight with little or no vibration effect and at the same time cohesive enough to be handled without segregation or bleeding. Adoption of SCC offers substantial benefits in enhancing construction productivity, reducing overall cost, and improving work environment. Cost reduction in the building is the primary objective in developing countries like India. This paper puts forward the applications of manufactured sand as an attempt towards sustainable development in India. It will help to find valuable solution to the declining availability of natural sand to make eco-balance. Manufactured sand is one among such materials to replace river sand, which can be used as an alternative fine aggregate in mortars and concretes. The use of manufactured sand in concrete is gaining momentum these days. The present experimental investigations have been made on concrete using manufactured sand as fine aggregate and observed the effects of crushed manufactured sand on strength properties of concrete. The application of concrete meeting the specification is of paramount importance, to ensure construction of durable R.C.C. structure. A well processed manufactured sand as full replacement to river sand is the need of the hour as a long-term solution in Indian concrete industry until other suitable alternative fine aggregate are developed.

This article discusses the benefits of aligning the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to promote quality education and sustainable development in India’s higher education institutions. The NEP 2020 and the SDGs share common objectives related to promoting access to quality education, improving learning outcomes, and fostering innovation and research. By integrating the SDGs into their curricula and operations, higher education institutions in India can help their students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to contribute to sustainable development in India and globally. The article also provides examples of higher education institutions in India that have adopted the SDGs and incorporated them into their curricula and operations. The alignment of NEP 2020 with the SDGs is expected to further encourage the integration of the SDGs into higher education in India.

Achieving Gender Equality through Women Empowerment in India: A Study in the Context of Sustainable Development.

According to UN data, women and girls constitutes 50% of the world’s population and therefore, half of mankind’s potential. The 5th Sustainable Development Goal is about achieving gender equality and empowering women. However, existing literature suggests that widespread gender inequality acts as a hinderance to sustainable development. This study aims at uncovering the role of women empowerment in achieving gender equality and thereby ensuring sustainable development in India. Qualitative methodology and secondary sources are employed to collect data. According to published studies, contribution of women work force towards economic development of the country is less compared to men work force. Similarly, in the political sphere men dominates and participation of women in decision making process is comparatively less. Women related violence and crime has increased manifolds in the past decade. Studies also state that women participation in climate change dialogue is also less in India. This study concludes that unless women are not empowered and gender equality is not achieved, women cannot play a significant role in economic, political, social, and environmental spheres. And to achieve sustainable development recognizing only men’s contributions will not suffice. Hence, this study tries to draw the attention of the policy makers to commit and work towards women empowerment and utilize the potential of the entire country to attain sustainable development.

ABSTRACT This paper examines India’s environmental policies and budget allocations from 2016–2024, revealing a focus on infrastructure that may overshadow environmental conservation. Significant discrepancies between policy rhetoric and budgetary commitments suggest that there is a need for realignment. Advocating an ‘environment-centric’ approach, the study calls for increased budgetary commitments to environmental protection, a strategic shift away from fossil fuels, and stringent regulatory oversight, all essential to ensure sustainable development in India.

A review of coal bed methane production techniques and prospects in India

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and opportunities associated with Coalbed Methane (CBM) extraction in the energy industry. It covers various aspects including the extraction process, major challenges faced, water management strategies, and the social and environmental implications of large-scale CBM production. CBM extraction involves the gradual transformation of buried plant materials into coal over millions of years, resulting in the release of methane and other by-product gases. Understanding the adsorption mechanism of CBM molecules onto the coal matrix and the role of the cleat system is crucial for efficient extraction. The cleat system, composed of face cleats and butt cleats, creates interconnected pathways for gas flow within coal seams, facilitating the extraction of CBM. However, water management poses a significant challenge in CBM extraction, as water production within the cleat system needs to be effectively managed to reduce pressure and enable gas desorption. Techniques such as dewatering and gas diffusion are employed to optimize gas production rates while minimizing water production. Large-scale CBM production has social and environmental implications, and it can result in land use changes, community displacement, and conflicts over resource allocation. Additionally, the release of methane during extraction contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Mitigation measures and thorough assessment are necessary to minimize these impacts and ensure responsible and sustainable CBM development. India, with its abundant coal reserves and identified CBM producing blocks, holds significant prospects for CBM production. The paper discusses these prospects, considering the country's coal reserves and the current status of CBM exploration and production activities. It informs of future energy planning of CBM development in India. Growth and Pattern of Renewable Energy in India: A Way for Sustainable Development

The main objective of the present study is to analyse the growth and pattern of renewable energy in India. Renewable energy is generated from natural sources, which are replenished more quickly than consumed. Renewable energy has a significantly positive impact on protecting the environment from the problem of carbon emissions, which is most required in India, as India is the fourth largest nation producing the highest carbon emission. As being a developing nation, the energy requirement has continuously increased in India, and it is expected India will become third larger country that requires energy sourced after China and US up to 2040. The study observed that the energy deficit in the normal and peak periods has declined, and the share of renewable energy reached 20.3 per cent in 2021-22. Moreover, the majority of renewable energy is owned by the private sector, and the western coastal states of India have the highest density of renewable energy. The study suggested optimum policy recommendations to enhance renewable energy and promote sustainable development in India.
