As the parotid enlargement was readily noted on physical examination, it presented the problem in these two patients of a differential diagnosis of jaundice with parotid enlargement. Since both patients happened to be Negroes, the suspicion of sarcoidosis was immediately entertained, but no other evidences of this disease were found.
