Highly Active MXene Quantum Dots/CuSe n-p Plasmonic Heterostructures for Ultrafast Photocatalytic Removal of Cr(VI) under Full Solar Spectrum.

Identifying effective plasmonic photocatalysts exhibiting robust activities across the entire solar spectrum poses a significant challenge. CuSe, with its local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, has garnered attention as a prospective plasmonic photocatalyst. However, severe charge recombination and insufficient light absorption limit its photocatalytic performance. To enhance the performance, constructing CuSe-based n-p plasmonic semiconductor heterostructures is a potential strategy. MXene quantum dots (MQDs), a kind of n-type plasmonic semiconductor with metallic conductivity and a high LSPR effect, are a promising candidate to couple with p-type CuSe. According to the complementary principle, we designed a 0D/2D MQDs/CuSe n-p plasmonic semiconductor, achieved by wrapping CuSe nanosheets with MQDs. This n-p plasmonic heterostructure exhibits a synergistic effect on an enhanced electronic field, facilitating charge transfer and separation, thereby enhancing charge excitation, carrier migration, and photothermal effect. Furthermore, optimizing the MQD loading content leads to an ultrafast photocatalytic reaction rate, achieving 100% Cr(VI) reduction efficiency within just 60 min with a reaction kinetics of 0.069 min-1, surpassing the performance of bare CuSe. Our work presents a promising approach for developing advanced n-p plasmonic heterostructures based on MQDs for wastewater treatment and other photocatalytic applications.

Plasmon-enhanced NIR-II photoluminescence of rare-earth oxide nanoprobes for high-sensitivity optical temperature sensing.

With ongoing advancements in photothermal therapy, achieving efficient tumor cell eradication while minimizing damage to healthy tissues necessitates a highly effective and non-invasive real-time temperature monitoring technique for human tissues. Herein, we report a near-infrared (NIR)-II optical temperature sensing nanoprobe featuring rare-earth-doped gadolinium oxide nanocrystals (RENCs) attached to the dumbbell mesoporous silica-coated gold nanorods (AuNRs). The composite nanoprobe presents an intense absorption in the NIR region, and NIR-II photoluminescence (PL) increases by 97.2 to 102-fold compared to pure RENCs upon 980 nm irradiation. The localized electric field generated through surface plasmon resonance effects of AuNRs demonstrated a dumbbell-shaped distribution that aligns with the structure of nanoprobes, maximizing the PL enhancement of RENCs. Moreover, the NIR-II emissions are changed with the rising temperature, with an exceptional relative sensitivity of 7.25% K-1 at 338 K based on PL lifetime, indicating the nanoprobe is highly potential for optical temperature sensing.

Plasmonic gold-enhanced GaAs for femtosecond laser generation

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) can significantly enhance the local electromagnetic fields, facilitating the interaction between light and matter at the nanoscale. However, its ultrafast photonics application in lasers remains unexplored, especially for femtosecond pulsed laser generation. In this work, we investigate the femtosecond pulse generation based on SPR-enhanced nonlinear absorption characteristics in GaAs for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The gold nanoparticles (GNPs)+GaAs bilayer saturation absorber (SA) decorated on the tapered fiber generates a modulation depth of 2.02% and a saturable intensity of 3.13 MW/cm2. Stable mode-locked pulses can be obtained in an erbium-doped fiber cavity, as demonstrated here. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the pulses is 75 dB and the shortest pulse duration can reach 384 fs, highlighting the potential of the SPR effect in manufacturing ultrafast optical devices.

A Facile Microwave-Promoted Formation of Highly Photoresponsive Au-Decorated TiO2 Nanorods for the Enhanced Photo-Degradation of Methylene Blue

The integration of noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) effectively modifies the electronic properties of semiconductor photocatalysts, leading to improved charge separation and enhanced photocatalytic performance. TiO2 nanorods decorated with Au NPs were successfully synthesized using a cost-effective, rapid microwave-assisted method in H2O2 and HF media for methylene blue (MB) degradation under visible light illumination. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 physisorption, and UV–vis spectroscopy were employed to characterize the structures, morphologies, compositions, and photoelectronic properties of the as-synthesized materials. The fusing of Au NPs effectively alters the electronic structure of TiO2, enhancing the charge separation efficiency and improved electrical conductivity. The HF treatment promotes the exposure of the highly reactive (001) and (101) crystalline facets. The improved photocatalytic activity of Au/TiO2, achieving 97% efficiency, is attributed to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of the Au NPs and the presence of oxygen vacancies. The photodegradation of MB using the TiO2/Au photocatalysts follows pseudo-first-order kinetics, highlighting the enhanced catalytic efficiency of the synthesized nanostructures. The exceptional properties of the binary Au/TiO2 photocatalysts, including the SPR effect, exposed crystallographic faces, and efficient charge carrier separation through a decrease in the recombination of electrons and holes, contribute to the photocatalytic degradation of MB.

Fermi energy level synergistic Bi-based electron bridge construction of Z-type heterojunctions to accelerated photogenerated charge transfer for photostability and contaminant mineralization

Advanced oxidation technologies offer new opportunities for pollutant degradation. Despite the existence of numerous photocatalyst heterojunctions for advanced oxidation, their charge transfer and separation efficiency is low due to inadequate interfacial modulation, especially for Type II heterojunctions. Here, through metal reduction, metal defects with regulating the Fermi level and metal electron bridges with facilitate the separation of photo-generated carriers, facilitating the transition from Type II to Z-type heterojunctions. Herein, we designed a Z-Scheme photocatalyst with Bi-based electron bridges (referred to as ‘fishbone-like’ BiVO4/Bi/CuO) synthesized through in situ reduction, utilized for RhB degradation. Under visible light irradiation, the degradation rate of RhB up to 99 % within 120 min, outperforming most previously reported photocatalysts. Notably, the well-designed BiVO4/Bi/CuO exhibits as reaction rate of 4.13 × 10-2 ·min−1, which is 18 times higher than the pure BiVO4. The BiVO4/Bi/CuO photocatalyst demonstrates exceptional stability over 6 reaction cycles spanning 15 h, due to strengthened contact interface of BiVO4/Bi/CuO. The metal Bi can induce the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect, enhancing light absorption. Furthermore, Bi-based electron bridges significantly promote the charge transfer across the Z-type heterojunction interface, which were verified by assorted experimental outcomes and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. This work represents a promising platform for the development of highly efficient and stable photocatalysts that have potential in Pollutant degradation applications.

Single layered Ag/NiO plasmonic nanocoatings: A new green synthesis method for selective solar absorber

This study presents the synthesis of environmentally benign, single-layered spectrally selective Ag/NiO nanocoating absorbers using a green synthesis method. Various characterization techniques, including Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM), were used to examine the effects of plasmonic Ag concentration on the structural, chemical composition, and surface morphology of the nanocomposites. The optical properties of the deposited nanocoatings were investigated using a UV–Vis-NIR spectrophotometer in the solar spectrum region (300–2500 nm) and an FT-IR spectrophotometer in the infrared wavelength region (3000–20,000 nm). XRD results confirmed the coexistence of a face-centered cubic phase of Ag and NiO in the Ag/NiO nanocermet thin films. SEM and TEM topography revealed uniformly distributed nanosphere NiO thin films and cubic Ag metal with better dispersibility and crystallization. The RBS spectrum of the samples showed a homogeneous distribution of Ni, Ag, and O atoms throughout the coatings. Ag/NiO nanocoatings deposited with 8 wt% Ag content exhibited excellent solar absorptance (α) = 0.95 and thermal emittance of (ɛ) of 0.08. This enhancement is primarily attributed to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect associated with the embedded Ag nanoparticles, which facilitates more effective utilization of light.

Shining light on broad-spectrum responded NaYF4:Yb,Er,Tm@Bi@BiOI: Understanding the enhanced photodegradation performance of bisphenol A and mechanisms

This work reported a novel ternary heterogeneous photocatalyst NaYF4:Yb,Er,Tm@Bi@BiOI (NBEG-6h). NBEG-6h exhibits broad-spectrum absorption from ultraviolet to near-infrared. The elimination efficiency of BPA by NBEG-6h under simulated sunlight and near-infrared light irradiation was 88% (24 min) and 93.9% (160 min), respectively. It also has the universality of degrading various pollutants, good reusability and stability. The exceptional photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the absorption of near-infrared light by NaYF4:Yb,Er,Tm, which improves the total efficiency of sunlight utilization. The localized surface plasmon resonance effect of Bi nanoparticles enhances the light absorption performance of the heterostructure. Furthermore, combining Bi and BiOI accelerates carrier migration and improves the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. h+, ·O2− and 1O2 play the pivotal roles during the photocatalytic process. This research offers new insights into the design, development, and mechanism understanding of full-spectrum-driven heterostructure photocatalysts. It provides an environmentally sustainable approach to the treatment of harmful organic pollutants.

Localized surface plasmon resonance effect-mediated in-situ photochemical–formation of H2O2 for high epoxidation performance over LaSrCoNiO6 nanoparticles

Selective aerobic epoxidation of allylic alcohols and olefins presents a promising solution to the modern chemical industry. However, the development of non-noble metal catalysts with superior catalytic performance for this reaction remains a significant challenge. This study introduces a plasmonic photothermal-catalytic system centered around nano LaSrCoNiO6 (LSCNi-N) catalyst, enabling the epoxidation of cinnamyl alcohol and styrene mediated by LSPR effect under visible light illumination (>420 nm). This catalyst exhibits superior epoxidation catalytic performance, with selectivities of up to 72.3 % in a 93.4 % conversion of cinnamyl alcohol and 91.8 % selectivity of styrene oxide at almost 100 % conversion of styrene. Mechanistic studies reveal that the high selectivity derives from the in-situ photochemical formation of H2O2 mediated by the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of LSCNi-N and hole scavenger effect of cinnamyl alcohol. These findings highlight the potential of designing plasmonic transition-metal oxidic catalysts to overcome challenges in selectively synthesizing fine chemicals through visible light catalysis.

Plasmon-Enhanced Photoelectrochemistry of Photosystem II on a Hierarchical Tin Oxide Electrode for Ultrasensitive Detection of 17β-Estradiol.

Despite its excellent efficiency in natural photosynthesis, the utilization of photosystem II (PSII)-based artificial photoelectrochemical (PEC) systems for analytical purposes is hindered due to the low enzyme loading density and ineffective electron transfer (ET) processes. Here, we present a straightforward and effective approach to prepare a PSII-based biohybrid photoanode with remarkable photoresponse, enabled by the use of a hierarchically structured inverse-opal tin oxide (IO-SnO2) electrode combined with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). The porous, carbon-containing IO-SnO2 structure allows for a high density and photoactivity loading of PSII complexes, while also providing strong electrical coupling between the protein film and the electrode. A new electron transfer pathway mediated by Au NPs was identified at the protein-electrode interface, which efficiently shuttles the photogenerated electrons from the enzyme to the IO-SnO2 electrode. Furthermore, the PEC response of the electrode was significantly enhanced by the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Au NPs. Upon light irradiation, this PSII-based photoanode exhibited an impressively high and stable photocurrent output, which was utilized to fabricate an aptasensor for 17β-Estradiol (E2) detection. Under optimal conditions, a detection limit of 0.33 pM was obtained, along with a broad detection range from 15 pM to 30 nM. The applicability of the aptasensor was assessed by measuring E2 in water and urine samples, demonstrating its feasibility in environmental monitoring and clinical tests.

Tailoring Carrier Dynamics of BiVO4 Photoanode via Dual Incorporation of Au and Co(OH)x Cooperative Modification for Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

AbstractPhotoelectrochemical solar to hydrogen production is a promising way to achieve carbon neutrality, but severe charge recombination in photoanodes limits the conversion efficiency. Herein, Au nanoparticles and Co(OH)x co‐sensitized bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) to construct AuCo(OH)x/BiVO4 photoanode for significantly enhancing the performance of photoelectrochemical water splitting. This process significantly improves the bulk charge carrier separation efficiency, the surface kinetics of water oxidation, and the electron density of BiVO4 photoanode through Au surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and Co(OH)x oxygen evolution catalysts effect. Additionally, the enhancement of the *O and the *OOH generation accelerate the oxygen evolution reaction kinetics. Consequently, the constructed AuCo(OH)x/BiVO4 photoanode demonstrates an excellent photocurrent of 6.2 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode and a stable continuous output within 42 h. This work contributes to developing high‐efficiency and high‐stability photoanodes for solar H2 production through SPR effect and oxygen evolution catalysts.

Ag–Pt Alloy Nanoparticles Modified Zn‐Based Nanosheets for Highly Selective CO2 Photoreduction to CH4

AbstractMulti‐electron involved photoreduction of CO2 to hydrocarbon fuels is a long‐standing challenge, particularly in manipulating the selectivity of the target products. Here, a novel Ag–Pt bimetallic alloy on Zn‐based supports by photo‐deposition is designed for photocatalytic CO2 reduction to CH4 without any additives. This photocatalyst exhibits ≈ 98.9% selectivity for CH4. Experimental and theoretical calculations demonstrated that the excellent performance of the photocatalyst can be attributed to the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of metals, as well as the synergistic effects of the bimetallic sites. These factors are found to be beneficial not only for capturing solar radiation and facilitating electron migration but also for promoting the adsorption and activation of CO2 and the protonation of *CO. As a result, the photocatalyst achieved high selectivity and activity of photoreduction of CO2 to CH4. This work provides insights into the design of photocatalysts with highly selective target products for CO2 reduction.

Metal-Based Oxygen Reduction Electrocatalysts for Efficient Hydrogen Peroxide Production.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a high-value chemical widely used in electronics, textiles, paper bleaching, medical disinfection, and wastewater treatment. Traditional production methods, such as the anthraquinone oxidation process and direct synthesis, require high energy consumption, and involve risks from toxic substances and explosions. Researchers are now exploring photochemical, electrochemical, and photoelectrochemical synthesis methods to reduce energy use and pollution. This review focuses on the 2-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e- ORR) for the electrochemical synthesis of H2O2, and discusses how catalyst active sites influence O2 adsorption. Strategies to enhance H2O2 selectivity by regulating these sites are presented. Catalysts require strong O2 adsorption to initiate reactions and weak *OOH adsorption to promote H2O2 formation. The review also covers advances in single-atom catalysts (SACs), multi-metal-based catalysts, and highlights non-noble metal oxides, especially perovskite oxides, for their versatile structures and potential in 2e- ORR. The potential of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effects to enhance catalyst performance is also discussed. In conclusion, emphasis is placed on optimizing catalyst structures through theoretical and experimental methods to achieve efficient and selective H2O2 production, aiming for sustainable and commercial applications.

Highly sensitive multiplexed colorimetric lateral flow immunoassay by plasmon-controlled metal-silica isoform nanocomposites: PINs.

Lateral flow assay (LFA) systems use metal nanoparticles for rapid and convenient target detection and are extensively studied for the diagnostics of various diseases. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are often used as probes in LFAs, displaying a single red color. However, there is a high demand for colorimetric LFAs to detect multiple biomarkers, requiring the use of multicolored NPs. Here, we present a highly sensitive multiplexed colorimetric lateral flow immunoassay by multicolored Plasmon-controlled metal-silica Isoform Nanocomposites (PINs). We utilized the localized surface plasmon resonance effect to create multi-colored PINs by precisely adjusting the distance between the NPs on the surface of PINs through the controlled addition of reduced gold and silver precursors. Through simulations, we also confirmed that the distance between nanoparticles on the surface of PINs significantly affects the color and colorimetric signal intensity of the PINs. We achieved multicolored PINs that exhibit stronger colorimetric signals, offering a new solution for LFA detection with high sensitivity and a 33 times reduced limit of detection (LOD) while maintaining consistent size deviations within 5%. We expect that our PINs-based colorimetric LFA will facilitate the sensitive and simultaneous detection of multiple biomarkers in point-of-care testing.

Voltage-induced rearrangement in silver nanoparticles spatial distribution produced by EAFD method and its LSPR optimization

Abstract This paper presents a voltage-induced and thermal annealing rearrangement (VITAR) method based on modified Electric Field Assisted Film Dissolution (EAFD) method as a flexible and powerful tool for manipulating nanoparticles spatial distribution based on drift and diffusion mechanisms that occur due to external DC voltage and thermal annealing processes. Different samples with various arrangements of external DC voltage and thermal annealing processes have been produced. The extinction and attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectra, as well as Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) images, have been employed to investigate their optical and morphological properties. Four cases with arrangements of DV-Anl, DV-Anl-DV, DV-Anl-IV, and DV-IV-Anl have been studied. The AFM images show that by applying secondary voltage (direct or inverse voltage), it is possible to drift nanoparticles and change its morphology (size and shape) as well as surface and volume distributions. As a result, by applying a secondary direct voltage (in the DV-Anl-DV case), the surface density of nanoparticles decreases due to direct drift force. It is notable that in this case, the extinction peak and ATR depth have not significantly changed. By applying a secondary inverse voltage (in the DV-Anl-IV, and DV-IV-Anl cases), an increase in the surface density of the nanoparticles has been observed. Also, the extinction peak has increased, and the ATR depth has decreased in the DV-Anl-IV case, but in the DV-IV-Anl case, due to the uniform size of surface nanoparticles, the resonance power has shown a significant increase in both extinction and ATR spectra compared to other cases. The resulting changes in extinction and ATR spectra show that by using the VITAR process, the surface structure, morphology and its optical properties can be optimized and this method provides a great opportunity to enhance Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR) effects, which can be employed in nano-optical devices.

Shift of plasmon resonance in silver nanoparticles: effect of magnetic field pre-treatment

Abstract A novel magnetic field induced phenomenon in ZnO/Ag nanoparticles is detected and investigated with reference to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect. A shift of the maximum of plasmon absorption of the ZnO/Ag nanoparticles formed in different days in magnetic field treated ZnO/ethanol solutions was observed. The observed phenomena were explained in terms of the ferromagnetic-like properties of the ZnO nanoparticles due to the surface broken bonds, which result in the appearance of non-zero magnetic moments. Magnetic field pre-treatment may be used as an effective tool for manipulating the plasmon properties of silver-based nanoparticles, which is perspective for creating new-generation sensor systems.

Construction of Ag-modified ZnO/g-C3N4 heterostructure for enhanced photocatalysis performance.

ZnO/g-C3N4 heterojunction modified with Ag nanoparticles (ZnO/CN/Ag) was synthesized by depositing ZnO nanorods/Ag nanoparticles onto g-C3N4 nanosheets. Under xenon lamp irradiation, 99% of Rhodamine B (RhB) was degraded by ZnO/CN/Ag-5% composite within 30min, which was much higher than the degradation efficiency of ZnO and ZnO/CN. The synergistic effect of g-C3N4 and ZnO, along with the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag NPs, contributes to the improvement of photocatalytic performance. Ag nanoparticle provides another charge transfer path from g-C3N4 to ZnO, which speeds up the separation of electron-hole pairs. Meanwhile, the catalyst had good stability and recyclability. Finite-difference time-domain method and the density functional theory were used to obtain the charge transfer process. The photodegradation process has been studied in depth.

Localized surface plasmon resonance induced nonlinear absorption and optical limiting activity of gold decorated graphene/MoS2 hybrid

The synergistic supremacy of a hybrid nanocomposite made of reduced graphene oxide (rGO), molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and gold nanoparticles (Au) for Q-switching and optical limiting applications is investigated. Hydrothermally synthesized Au-rGO-MoS2 hybrid with varying concentrations of Au (2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 wt%) was subjected to interact with Q-switched Nd:YAG nanosecond green laser pulses. The intensity dependent nonlinear absorption studies revealed a switch over in the nonlinear behaviour from saturable absorption (SA) to reverse saturable absorption (RSA) behaviour. SA occurs due to ground state bleaching at comparatively lower laser irradiances serving the need for Q-switching and optical communications. The RSA trait at higher laser irradiance is attributed to sequential two-photon absorption which serves as the platform for optical limiting behaviour prompting laser safety and effective photothermal therapy applications. The strong mid-visible and UV absorption promotes the availability of multiple energy bands for energy transitions of excited state absorption (ESA). Enhanced local fields due to localized surface plasmon resonance effect, structural defects, hierarchical morphology, increased absorption cross-section and plasmon induced energy transfer promotes robust ESA process. These tunable nonlinear optical properties make Au-rGO-MoS2 hybrid promising futuristic candidates for applications in nonlinear photonic devices, ultrafast optical switches and all-optical signal processing systems.

Functional design of PGMA-co-PDFHM/Ti3C2Tx MXene composite materials for anti-icing in simulated outdoor environment

To improve anti-icing traits of outdoor coatings, a synergy between photothermal and hydrophobic anti-icings was utilized to fabricate copolymer/Ti3C2Tx MXene composite coatings with good transparency and adhesion. MXene contributes to photothermal trait from local surface plasmon resonance effect. Copolymer enables hydrophobicity from perfluoroalkyls-induced low surface energy and high surface roughness. An increase in MXene dose results in an increased surface roughness. With 140.0 ± 2.2° of water contact angle and 70% of light transmittance, the optimal film bears 2 wt% of MXene. High MXene dose results in large temperature-increase of film under sunlight. After 15 min of sunlight exposure, the temperature of optimal film surface in icing simulation increases from − 18 ℃ to 7.2 ℃. After 48 h of acid immersion, the temperature-increase of optimal film surface based on 300 s of sunlight irradiation reaches 28.7 ± 1.2 ℃. After 48 h of ultraviolet irradiation, the temperature-increase of optimal film surface is 30.7 ± 0.8 ℃. This surface has a water contact angle of 132.7 ± 1.1° after 48 h of acid immersion. This study gives impetus to a preparation of various composite coatings for outdoor anti-icing/deicing.

Photochemical Synthesis of Sericin-Coated Gold Nanorods and Their Antibacterial Activity under Low-Level Near-Infrared Light.

Gold nanorods (GNRs) are unique nanoparticles with easily functionalized surfaces, multiple synthesis methods, photothermal conversion, and surface plasmon resonance effects. These properties make GNRs suitable for various biological applications. However, a rapid synthesis of GNRs using less toxic chemicals is needed. The photochemical method is a viable option that can synthesize GNRs quickly while using fewer chemicals. A photochemical method is reported for the synthesis of GNRs using Irgacure-2959 as a reducing agent. This method could be used to synthesize GNRs with a rod-like shape within 30 min. Additionally, GNRs were coated with sericin (GNRs-SC) to further reduce their toxicity in human dermal fibroblast adult cells. Low-level near-infrared (NIR) light was applied to enhance the photothermal therapy of both GNRs and GNRs-SC. The results showed that GNRs and GNRs-SC under low-level NIR light have enhanced antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, as well as antibiofilm activity against S. aureus. Furthermore, GNRs-SC showed good biocompatibility with antibacterial and antibiofilm activities. These results indicate that GNRs-SC are good candidates for various biological applications.

Controlled synthesis of 3D pseudocubic Fe2O3/BiFeO3 heterojunction photocatalyst for effective ciprofloxacin-HCl and methyl orange degradation

Nano-particle-based Iron (III) oxide (Fe2O3) and nanosheet-based bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) photocatalysts were successfully prepared through a solid-state thermal decomposition approach. Especially, loading BiFeO3 over Fe2O3 demonstrated a 3D pseudocubic-based hierarchical architecture of Fe2O3/BiFeO3 (FeBiOx), which exhibits enhanced photodegradation efficiency of about 98.3 % for antibiotic ciprofloxacin-HCl (C-HCl) and 97.8 % for pollutant methyl orange (MO) under ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation within 180 and 150 min, respectively, compared to pure BiFeO3 and Fe2O3. The improved photocatalytic performance of FeBiOx was ascribed to the increased surface area, Type-II charge transfer scheme, effective charge migration efficiency induced by the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of metal-Bi, and reduced bandgap energy.
