Legal Impact Of Catcalling Perpetrators And Physiological Impact On Victims In Indonesia

This article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework related to catcalling perpetrators and their physiological impact on victims in Indonesia as well as more effective law enforcement efforts in tackling this phenomenon. The focus is on increasing awareness of legal protection for victims and supporting stronger law enforcement against perpetrators of catcalling. In the research context, catcalling often occurs in open public places, especially with the majority of victims being women who wear the hijab. Forms of catcalling include comments, teasing, gestures, and touching. The research method used is qualitative with a literature review study approach. Data regarding catcalling cases was obtained from the researcher's personal experience, supported by journal research highlighting similar cases in Indonesia. Catcalling is a serious form of sexual harassment, with detrimental impacts on victims such as feelings of insecurity and emotional stress. Strong legal protection, public awareness, and more specific regulations are needed to address this problem effectively. With these steps, it is hoped that we can create a safer environment and respect individual rights. In order to deal with the problem of catcalling, there needs to be a synergy between strengthening the existing legal framework, outreach campaigns, and improving regulations governing behavior in public spaces. In addition, the importance of support from authorities such as the police and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that catcalling cases are handled seriously and fairly. In addition, there is a need for a holistic approach that involves providing psychological and social support for victims to help them recover from the impact of the trauma they may have experienced. Overall, efforts to overcome the catcalling phenomenon require collaboration between the government, the community and various other stakeholders. Only with comprehensive and coordinated measures can we create a safer environment that respects individual rights, and prevent the recurrence of catcalling cases in the future.

Social support and mental health outcomes in palestinian children victims of bullying and cyberbullying during the covid-19 pandemic: an exploratory investigation

BackgroundStudies have shown that COVID-19 negatively impacted mental health by increasing depression and anxiety. Additionally, bullying might deteriorate children's psychological functioning. Nevertheless, social support has been studied as a positive buffer for mental well-being.ObjectivesThus, our study aimed to examine the consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak on children’s mental health when they are a victim of bullying and cyberbullying. Moreover, we tested the effect of social support as a mediating variable. A sample of 141 children (63 boys and 78 girls) 9 to 13 years old (M = 10.31, SD = 2.26) who reported having experienced bullying participated in the research. All were Palestinians living in Israel, attending primary schools.MethodsData was collected using the following measures, the Multidimensional Bullying Victimization Scale (MBVS), the Adolescents Cyber-Victimization Scale (CYBVICS), the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), a questionnaire measuring the effect of COVID-19 on mental health outcomes, the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Structural equation modelling was applied to test the association between variables and mediating effects.FindingsA positive correlation between Fear of COVID-19 and traditional bullying, cyberbullying, depression, and anxiety were found. Moreover, social support was negatively correlated with traditional forms of bullying and cyberbullying. Also, statistically significant differences between traditional bullying, cyberbullying, depression, and parents' difficulties emerged from parental marital status.Conclusionsfindings might help victims of bullying by training teachers and guiding parents to construct intervention plans to empower the social networks of children victims.

Organizational peer support for second victims in Vienna, Austria: The KoHi-project

Abstract Background Healthcare workers negatively affected by adverse events are known as Second Victims (SV). The Second Victim Phenomenon (SVP) is widespread globally and can result in various consequences, such as anxiety, loss of confidence, and defensive medicine. To address this, the KoHi-project offers organizational peer support for SVs at the Clinic Hietzing (KHI) in Vienna, Austria. Methods A five-hour training program prepared 122 volunteers as peer supporters (KoHis) at KHI. Initial assessment (KoHi-I) in 2019 using the SeViD-questionnaire was followed by a repeat (KoHi-V) in 2022. Additionally, peer supporters underwent quantitative evaluations after training (KoHi-II), each session (KoHi-III), and after three sessions (KoHi-IV). KoHi-I-III were descriptively analyzed, while KoHi-IV and -V await evaluation. Results Initial study showed a 43% SVP prevalence at KHI. Most KoHis joined for ethical reasons and skill improvement, displaying high motivation. Post-training, they reported increased competency in supporting SVs. KoHi-III showed 53.3% of sessions initiated by KoHis, often triggered by personal distress. KoHis rated their support as highly helpful (M = 8.57 on a ten-point Likert-scale) and felt minimal burden (M = 3.42 on a ten-point Likert-scale) afterward. No significant correlations were found. Conclusions SVP is widespread at KHI. The five-hour training adequately prepared KoHis. Underreporting or underutilization of the program is suspected, possibly due to self-stigmatization of SVs. Being a peer supporter appears safe for KoHis. Psychological safety of voluntary supporters should be prioritized in hospital peer support programs. European hospitals lack organizational support for SVs, highlighting the importance of interventions like KoHi. Key messages • The SVP is common among healthcare workers at KHI. • The implemented organizational peer support seems to not negatively impact the voluntary peer supporters’ wellbeing.

Core set of indicators to evaluate healthcare workers support programmes: a consensus-based approach

Abstract Objectives Considering the widespread implementation of support programmes for healthcare workers (HCWs), there is an urgent need to establish a standardised set of indicators for their ongoing assessment. This study seeks to develop a consensus framework for evaluating interventions aimed at supporting HCWs affected by patient safety incidents (PSIs) or other distressing situations, commonly referred to as second victims (SVs). Having a core set of indicators it is crucial for facilitating comparative analyses across different organisations and time periods. Methods A qualitative study was conducted from June 2023 to March 2024. The study involved a multidisciplinary group of members part of the European Researchers Network Working on Second Victims. The consensus-building process utilised insights from a scoping review (phase 0) and a nominal group technique (phase 1) to develop a questionnaire for Delphi Rounds (phase 2). Indicators were rated on a scale of 1-5, with consensus reached if over 70% of participants rated an indicator as both feasible and sensitive scoring above 4. A consensus conference was subsequently organised. Results From an initial pool of 91 indicators, 55 were rated online, with 35 progressing to the Delphi rounds. A total of two Delphi rounds were performed and achieved response rates exceeding 60% and 80% respectively, resulting in consensus on 11 indicators for evaluating SV’ support programmes. These indicators encompass various aspects such as awareness and activation of the programmes, organisational processes and structures, institutional training provisions and assessment of the impact of the programme in the SVs. Conclusions This study endeavors to provide guidance for future SVs’ programs namely in the critical areas of programme’s awareness and activation, structural and process enhancements, and programme’s impact on SVs. Moreover, these indicators are suitable for multiple healthcare contexts and levels of implementation. Key messages • The priorities for evaluation of second victim programmes’ include their impact on healthcare workers, awareness and activation, organisational processes and structures and institutional training. • Utilizing a multidisciplinary consensus approach, we defined a set of indicators that are adaptable to diverse contexts that provide care and varying levels of second victim support implementation.

The effect of disaster case management on housing recovery: Analysis of disaster survivor support in Sendai City using the synthetic control method

AbstractThis study investigated how disaster case management (DCM) and disaster public housing reconstruction influence housing recovery using 4 open‐data sources. The trends in the number of households under designated temporary housing in Sendai and 18 other cities in Miyagi Prefecture were analyzed. The results revealed that both DCM and the reconstruction of public housing for disaster recovery promote housing restoration from temporary housing. Finally, Mary Richmond's discussion of wholesale and retail methods was used to elucidate policy implications for disaster victim support.

Towards accurate screening and prevention for PTSD (2-ASAP): protocol of a longitudinal prospective cohort study

BackgroundEffective preventive interventions for PTSD rely on early identification of individuals at risk for developing PTSD. To establish early post-trauma who are at risk, there is a need for accurate prognostic risk screening instruments for PTSD that can be widely implemented in recently trauma-exposed adults. Achieving such accuracy and generalizability requires external validation of machine learning classification models. The current 2-ASAP cohort study will perform external validation on both full and minimal feature sets of supervised machine learning classification models assessing individual risk to follow an adverse PTSD symptom trajectory over the course of 1 year. We will derive these models from the TraumaTIPS cohort, separately for men and women.MethodThe 2-ASAP longitudinal cohort will include N = 863 adults (N = 436 females, N = 427 males) who were recently exposed to acute civilian trauma. We will include civilian victims of accidents, crime and calamities at Victim Support Netherlands; and who were presented for medical evaluation of (suspected) traumatic injuries by emergency transportation to the emergency department. The baseline assessment within 2 months post-trauma will include self-report questionnaires on demographic, medical and traumatic event characteristics; potential risk and protective factors for PTSD; PTSD symptom severity and other adverse outcomes; and current best-practice PTSD screening instruments. Participants will be followed at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months post-trauma, assessing PTSD symptom severity and other adverse outcomes via self-report questionnaires.DiscussionThe ultimate goal of our study is to improve accurate screening and prevention for PTSD in recently trauma-exposed civilians. To enable future large-scale implementation, we will use self-report data to inform the prognostic models; and we will derive a minimal feature set of the classification models. This can be transformed into a short online screening instrument that is user-friendly for recently trauma-exposed adults to fill in. The eventual short online screening instrument will classify early post-trauma which adults are at risk for developing PTSD. Those at risk can be targeted and may subsequently benefit from preventive interventions, aiming to reduce PTSD and relatedly improve psychological, functional and economic outcomes.

Mechanisms of restoration of public authorities and justice in the de-occupied territories of Ukraine: theoretical and applied aspects

the context of russian aggression, which led to the temporary occupation of parts of the Ukrainian territory, there is a need to implement complex measures to restore sovereignty, law and order, and legality. The article reveals a number of important aspects, which include theoretical approaches to the restoration of public power, mechanisms for the restoration of justice, implementation of stabilization measures and practical aspects of their implementation in the de-occupied territories. The theoretical part of the article justifies the need to develop new legal norms that would take into account the specifics of the post-conflict situation, while integrating international standards and the experience of other countries that have undergone similar trials. The role of restoring trust in state institutions through reforming and modernizing the judicial system, ensuring the fair trial of cases, as well as ways of improving the efficiency of justice through the implementation of programs for rehabilitation and support of victims are considered. The mechanisms of restoring justice are highlighted, where the authors emphasize the need to strengthen the institutional base, create conditions for access to judicial protection, and bring to justice persons guilty of crimes during the occupation. Options for implementation of stabilization measures are discussed, in particular, restoration of infrastructure, provision of basic needs of the population, support of local business and creation of new jobs, which will contribute to social cohesion and restoration of public order. The conclusions emphasize the need for a systematic approach, comprehensive measures and adaptation to changing conditions for the successful restoration of law and order in the de-occupied territories. It is recommended to focus on the development of effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms that will allow prompt response to challenges and adjustment of recovery strategies. This article will make an important contribution to the scholarly dialogue on restoring public power and justice in post-conflict development, providing valuable guidance for law enforcement and policy decisions.

Exploring the impact of cyber and traditional crime victimization: Impact comparisons and explanatory factors

As cybercrime victimization rates continue to rise, our understanding of their impact, especially compared to traditional crime, remains limited. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted surveys among 910 crime victims, measuring the impact of cyber and traditional variants of property, person-centered, and sexual crime. We compared the impact of: (1) residential burglary and hacking of online bank accounts; (2) doorstep deception and bank helpdesk fraud; (3) in-person threats and online threats; and (4) sexual assault and image-based sexual abuse. Impact was categorized into peritraumatic stress, internalizing problems, externalizing problems, financial impact, and damaged self-image. Our findings reveal that cybercrime impact mostly equals or exceeds that of traditional crimes. Disparities especially emerge in terms of higher peritraumatic stress experienced by victims of cyber property crime, and more damage to self-image suffered by victims of both cyber property and cyber sexual crimes. Furthermore, we identified significant determinants of victim impact among crime characteristics, and social, personal, and demographic factors, some varying between cyber and traditional crime. Our study emphasizes the implications of the technological nature of cybercrime and the relatively active role played by cybercrime victims, while also considering the issue of victim blaming. Furthermore, we underscore the need for targeted victim support and prioritization of cybercrime.

Characteristics of adult male victims in intimate heterosexual relationships from domestic violence police narratives

Background settingDomestic violence (DV) perpetrated against male victims has received little attention in the literature, since men are generally the perpetrators rather than victims of DV. This study examines the characteristics of adult male victims and female Persons of Interest (POIs) suspected and/or charged with perpetrating a DV offence in an intimate relationship.MethodsWe analyzed the results from a text mining study on half a million (492,393) police-attended DV events from 2005 to 2016 in New South Wales (Australia). 7.3% (13,896) events involving an adult male victim and a female POI in an intimate relationship were included.ResultsOver three-quarters (77.5%; 10,775) of DV events had at least one abuse type recorded, with the most common being “unspecified assault” (57.3%), followed by verbal abuse (34.1%), and punching (29.1%). Half of events (51.2%; 7,128) had an injury recorded by the police, with “cut/abrasion(s)” the most common (41.6%), followed by “red mark/sign” (25.4%), and “bruising” (15.8%). A total of 2,196 (15.8%) DV events had a mention of a mental illness for the POIs and 570 (4.1%) for the victims. Mood disorders had the most mentions for both POIs (37.0%) and victims (32.8%). Among victims, anxiety related disorders saw the largest increase (14.0%) in mentions from 2005 to 2016, followed by depression (8.0%).ConclusionOur findings represent population level data insights from DV events involving an adult male victim in an intimate relationship with a female POI. Our findings align with existing studies suggesting that female POIs are more likely than male POIs to use objects/weapons, employ verbal abuse, and perform minor acts of physical violence. Female POIs had 4 times the number of mental illness mentions than male victims indicating that mental illness could be a risk factor for DV, while the increase in anxiety disorders and depression for male victims corresponds with research that associates mental illnesses and DV victimhood. This study highlights the need for a greater awareness and support for male victims of DV.

VIOLÊNCIA DOMÉSTICA E ATENDIMENTO ODONTOLÓGICO: A NECESSIDADE DE UM MANUAL DE CONDUTAS PARA CIRURGIÕES-DENTISTAS

The objective of this study is to help health professionals, especially dentists, know how to identify, approach and appropriately manage the cases of patients who have been victims of domestic violence, by offering clear, evidence-based guidance. It is carried out through a literature review, addressing issues such as oral and maxillofacial trauma associated with domestic violence. The databases consulted included LILACS, SCIELO and PUBMED, the controlled descriptors used and listed by the Health Sciences descriptors (DeCS) were: “Facial trauma”, “Domestic violence” and “Violence against women. The results highlight the need for training health professionals to ensure sensitive care and the importance of collaboration with other areas, such as psychology and social assistance. It is concluded that the implementation of the manual could improve the early detection of abuse and provide more integrated support for victims of domestic violence. Continuous training and awareness raising of dentists are essential to face the ethical and practical challenges related to caring for these patients, contributing to a more effective approach to combating domestic violence.

Translation, Adaptation, and Validation of the Japanese Version of Second Victim Experience and Support Tool-Revised.

Healthcare workers involved in, and negatively affected by, patient safety incidents are referred to as second victims. The Second Victim Experience and Support Tool-Revised (SVEST-R) can reveal the second victim's degree of negative experiences and the desirability of the support options. However, a Japanese version of the SVEST-R (J-SVESTR) has not yet been developed. This study aimed to translate and adapt the SVEST-R into Japanese and validate its psychometric properties. We performed forward and back translations of the SVEST-R and evaluated its clarity and content validity. Subsequently, we administered a cross-sectional questionnaire survey to evaluate the construct validity, internal consistency, and retest reliability of the J-SVESTR. The J-SVESTR was finalized with clarity and content validity supported by a pilot test and an expert panel. In total, 224 healthcare workers responded to the J-SVESTR survey. The 9 factors and 35 items model indicated an acceptable fit (χ2/df = 1.811, root mean square error of approximation = 0.060, comparative fit index = 0.871, Tucker-Lewis index = 0.854, standardized root mean squared residual = 0.077). Cronbach's α values ranged from 0.68 to 0.85. The intraclass correlation coefficients ranged from 0.63 to 0.87. The J-SVESTR retained 9 factors and 35 items, with no item changes from the original. The psychometric properties of the J-SVESTR are acceptable. The J-SVESTR can help investigate the actual situation and desired support options for second victims in Japan.

Psychological, Physical, and Professional Impact on Second Victims in Veterinary Anaesthesia: A Cross-Sectional International Survey - Part 1

ObjectivesTo investigate the psychological, physical, and professional impact of veterinary patient safety incidents (PSIs) on veterinary anaesthesia professionals. Study designWe conducted an observational cross-sectional survey, inviting veterinary anaesthesiologists, anaesthesiologists in training, and veterinary nurses/technicians through social media platforms from 2nd June–20th of September 2023. The questionnaire was based on the Second Victim Experience and Support Survey (SVEST) and analysed using descriptive statistics and subscale scoring to assess psychological, physical, and professional impacts. ResultsA total of 303 participants from 31 countries responded, including North (24%), Central (13.5%), and South America (25%), Europe (13.2%), UK (12.5%), Australia/New Zealand (8.1%) and Asia/Middle East (3.3%). A participation rate cannot be estimated. All respondents described themselves as second victims, with 70% encountering a PSI in the past 6 months. Of the 303 participants, 75% had direct involvement with the incident. Common post-incident challenges included: an increased awareness for PSIs (67.1%), fear of new PSIs (62.7%), diminished confidence (56.1%), more defensive medicine practice (46.7%), and sleep disorders (43.3%). Additionally, 62.7% agreed or strongly agreed that they experienced embarrassment post-incident. Following a PSI, approximately 69% of the participants reported feeling inadequate in their animal care abilities, and a similar percentage questioned their professional competence. Over half of the respondents (54.6%) became fearful of undertaking high-risk procedures. Approximately 38% of respondents considered leaving the field of anaesthesia, while over 56% harboured thoughts of leaving their job due to the stress from PSIs. Additionally, a significant proportion, 69.8%, reported not taking time off work following PSIs. ConclusionThe study identifies a significant psychological, physical, and professional impact on veterinary anaesthesia professionals, with notable effects on their emotional well-being and professional self-efficacy. The findings emphasize the need for supportive measures and interventions to mitigate the adverse effects experienced by these individuals.

Forgotten Victims of War: A Rapid Review of Counseling Needs and a Proposed Intervention Model for Civilian Survivors

The counseling needs of civilian war victims, particularly those not classified as refugees, have been largely neglected in academic counseling research. This study addresses this gap by conducting a rapid literature review to evaluate the current state of counseling services available to these individuals. Using Google Scholar and Web of Science, we identified and reviewed studies on counseling services for war veterans, refugees, and civilians in conflict zones. This review revealed a significant lack of structured counseling support for non-refugee civilian war victims, despite their high vulnerability. Findings indicate that while substantial efforts have been made to support refugees and veterans, the mental health needs of civilians who remain in conflict areas are often unmet, with existing services being sparse and inadequately documented. To address this issue, we propose a preliminary model that includes culturally sensitive counseling programs, training for local counselors, and international collaboration to provide sustainable support. This study highlights the urgent need for focused research and practical interventions to develop comprehensive counseling programs for these overlooked victims of war, and encourages researchers to address this critical gap in mental health services.

Optimizing Extension Communication in The Prevention of Sexual Harrasment in Higher Education Institutions (Systematic Literature Review)

This study aims to optimize communication strategies for preventing sexual harassment in higher education institutions. Amid rising incidents of sexual harassment that threaten the safety and well-being of students, especially women aged 18-24, there is an urgent need for more effective interventions. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this research analyzes data from various scientific publications, official documents, and journals using content analysis techniques to identify main themes and categorize relevant information. The findings suggest that effective counseling communication strategies are crucial in preventing sexual harassment within higher education institutions. The study highlights the importance of education and awareness, development of interpersonal communication skills, provision of support resources, specialized training for facilitators, integration of a comprehensive sexual education curriculum, and the use of media and technology in counseling. These approaches aim to deepen understanding, enhance support for victims, and develop inclusive and effective prevention strategies. The discussion emphasizes the need for adapting communication strategies to match the cultural context and policies of each institution to enhance their effectiveness. Recommendations from this research include a holistic integration of approaches focusing on training, advocacy, and clear policies, as well as ongoing evaluation to assess and improve existing strategies, ensuring their effectiveness in preventing sexual harassment in university environments.

Development and evaluation of an external second victim support program for nurses: a single-group feasibility study

BackgroundPsychological support programs can help nurses who involved in patient safety incidents. However, most of these programs are operated internally by healthcare providers and utilize peer supporters, which may take a long time to implement. Therefore, there is a need to develop programs that can be used by healthcare providers in healthcare institutions that have difficulty implementing their own programs. This feasibility study aimed to develop an external support program for nurses as second victims and to examine the feasibility, acceptability, and impact of the program.MethodsThis study was conducted using a single-group pretest-posttest design. Nurses who experienced patient safety incidents were recruited through posters at three advanced general hospitals, as well as open online recruitment and via a research agency panel from September 2020 to April 2021. The 11 participants attended a total of three one-on-one counseling sessions. Feasibility was evaluated based on participant recruitment and retention, resource availability, program procedures, and the practicability of data collection. Acceptability was assessed through program satisfaction and participant feedback. Psychological impact was measured using the Impact of Event Scale-Revised Korean version.ResultsOut of 26 applicants, 11 (42.3%) completed the program, with 10 (38.5%) participants completing both pre and post-program surveys. Most participants responded that they were satisfied with the program and expressed their intention to recommend the program to others and participate in it again if similar situations arise. The participants’ median total IES-R-K score decreased significantly from 30.0 to 16.0 (p = 0.028, r = 0.67).ConclusionThis study demonstrates the feasibility of an external second victim support program and provides preliminary data suggesting its potential to alleviate the psychological impact of participants. To overcome the limitations of this study, it is necessary to conduct additional controlled trials with a longer follow-up period and a larger sample size.

Help-seeking behavior of male victims of intimate partner violence in Japan.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is becoming a serious public health issue worldwide. This study sought to analyze factors affecting the help-seeking behavior of male victims of IPV using a web survey. Male IPV victims living in Japan were recruited to participate in a web-based questionnaire survey conducted on February 25 and 26, 2021. A total of 1466 men were divided into two groups: Group 1 (43 men) consisted of victims who sought help and Group 2 consisted of victims (1423 men) who had not sought help. The Domestic Violence Screening Inventory, a 20-item questionnaire regarding IPV exposure, and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 were used, along with the questions regarding help-seeking behaviors for Group 1. Of the 43 victims, 28 victims (65.1%) used exclusively informal supports, eight victims (18.6%) used exclusively formal supports, and seven victims (16.3%) used both. Logistic regression analyses revealed that only physical violence was significantly associated with help-seeking behaviors among types of abuse/violence (odds ratio [OR] = 4.51, confidence interval [CI] = 1.95-10.50, P < .001). Of past experiences, "foregoing divorce to avoid adverse childhood experiences in their offspring" (OR = 3.14, CI = 1.45-6.82, P = .003) was the most significantly associated with help-seeking behaviors. In Japan, male IPV victims tend to seek help following physical violence, but males are less are likely to seek help for nonphysical victimization, highlighting the need for targeted support for victims of nonphysical abuse. To provide comprehensive aid to male IPV victims, consultation centers designed for men will be needed.

Contribution of Responsive Governance to Personal Security of Crime Victims in Kenya

This study explored the critical role of responsive governance in enhancing the efficacy of victim assistance programs, with a particular focus on Kenya’s criminal justice system. By examining Kenya's low ranking on the World Justice Project's Rule of Law Index and comparing it with other nations such as the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Nigeria, the study highlights significant gaps in the protection of crime victims' rights. Employing a mixed-methods approach, this study investigated how governance impacts victim support by analyzing data from surveys and interviews with victims, government officials, law enforcement, and advocacy groups in Nairobi. The research identified the key principles for successful victim support, including inclusivity, transparency, accountability, and flexibility. It underscores the need for victim-centered approaches that prioritize accessibility, empathy, respect, confidentiality, and empowerment. The findings reveal both successes and challenges in current programs, with issues such as inadequate funding and limited collaboration affecting service delivery. The study advocates for the establishment of a Victim Support Agency (VSA) in Kenya to centralize victim support, enhance transparency, and foster effective stakeholder collaboration. The study recommends a holistic, coordinated, and well-funded approach that includes continuous improvement of victim support programs to address the existing gaps and advance justice and support for crime victims.

Sexual Violence and Girl Child Completion of Primary Education; A Case Study of Mitooma Sub County, Mitooma District.

The study focused on determining the relationship between sexual violence and girl child completion of primary education. Specifically, to find out how girl child sexual assault affects the completion of primary Education; to find out how girl child sexual harassment affects the completion of primary education ; to find out how effectiveness of statutory instruments in place towards sexual violence against girl child affects completion of primary Education and to find possible measures of controlling sexual harassment against girl child in primary schools in Mitooma Sub County. The study adopted cross-sectional research design with the sample size of 160 respondents, participants were selected using simple random and purposive sampling. Data was collected using questionnaire survey, interview method and focused group discussion. It was analysed using descriptive and pearson correlation coefficient. The study found out that sexual assault had a positive significant contribution to girl child completion of primary education. The study also revealed that that effect of sexual violence had a negative significant contribution to girl child completion of primary education. The study showed that effectiveness of statutory instruments had a positive significant contribution to girl child completion of primary education. The study found out that school has provided learners with basic information on how to avoid situations leading to sexual violence; sign posts have been hung in the school compound bearing messages against sexual violence; the school provides a protective environment and free from risks of sexual violence. The study recommends that government should promote gender equality and respect through incorporating gender equality and respectful relationships into school curricula. Teach children about consent, boundaries, and mutual respect from a young age. Government though police and court should ensure Immediate and Comprehensive Support for Victims by providing immediate and ongoing psychological support to help victims cope with trauma and regain confidence in their ability to learn and participate in school; Ensuring that victims have access to medical care to address any physical health issues resulting from the violence and to offer preventive and supportive care; Maintaining strict confidentiality to protect the privacy of victims and reduce the risk of stigma or further trauma. Government should periodically review and update laws and policies to address emerging trends and challenges related to sexual violence; ensure that statutory instruments cover all aspects of sexual violence, including prevention, protection, and prosecution, and address the specific needs of children. The study also recommends that there should be parent and caregiver workshops to offer workshops for parents and caregivers on recognizing signs of abuse, discussing safety with children, and understanding their role in prevention.

Pharmacy prevalence of second victim syndrome in a comprehensive cancer center.

The results of a survey to determine the pharmacy prevalence of second victim syndrome (SVS) at a comprehensive cancer center are presented. The division of pharmacy was surveyed using a 47-item online Qualtrics-platform questionnaire to help determine the prevalence of SVS. The questionnaire included demographic questions, questions about self-perceived SVS, and the validated Second Victim Experience and Support Tool (SVEST). The questionnaire was distributed electronically through senior leadership. The response rate was 95%, with self-perceived SVS reported in 37% of all respondents. Overall, 53% of pharmacists and 15% of pharmacy technicians reported having experienced SVS in their lifetime. Self-perceived time needed to recover from the most pronounced event was either less than a week or less than a month for 60% of respondents, with 10% never fully recovering. The SVEST score, which helped assess SVS impact, was neutral with a mean (SD) of 2.79 (0.51). The psychological distress and professional self-efficiency dimensions of SVEST each had a mean score of 3.5 or higher, suggesting prevalence of SVS symptoms. The resources most desired to help individuals recover from SVS were a peer support program, a specified peaceful location, time away from the unit, and an employee assistance program. The pharmacy division at a comprehensive cancer center is experiencing SVS. Programs targeting SVS should be considered for a pharmacy department or division at a comprehensive cancer center to help improve their employees' well-being and job performance. Multiple avenues of support resources are needed to meet everyone's needs.

The dawn of a sexual assault relief center: A 12-year fact-finding survey of victims of sexual assault conducted since2010 by SACHICO, Japan's first rape crisis center.

In Japan, amidst insufficient legal provisions and governmental support, in 2010, the first rape crisis center, the Sexual Assault Crisis Healing Intervention Center Osaka (SACHICO) was established. We compared SACHICO visitor data from 2010 to 2021 with National Police Agency statistics to clarify the current situation of sexual assault victims in Japan and considered future issues for Japan to address. This study was a cross-sectional study that analyzed the data described below. All visitations to SACHICO between April 2010 and December 2021 were considered targets for data totaling. Data on crime statistics were gathered from the official governmental statistics portal site. A total of 12 036 visitations occurred, of which 3189 were first-time consultations; 3100 initial medical examinations were conducted, and no medical examination was conducted in the remaining 89 cases (2.7%). The number of initial medical examinations increased 3.7 times from 2010 to 2021. Victims under the age of 19 comprised 60% of the total number of initial medical examinations (1863/3100). The reporting rate for all 3100 initial medical examinations was only 31.3% (969/3100) of the cases. The proportion of forcible sexual intercourse versus forcible indecency were the converse of those observed among acknowledged cases nationwide and in Osaka Prefecture. For several years, the number of initial medical consultations at SACHICO has exceeded that of acknowledged cases in Osaka Prefecture. Support for victims of sexual assault in Japan is still insufficient. It is necessary to strengthen the system of rape crisis centers system to realize an unbroken chain of support for victims.
