The purpose of this study is to investigate the practises on the quality performance impact toward supply chain quality management (SCQM). The study applies quantitative approach, and the questionnaire as a primary data to collect the information. A total of 30 questionnaires were collected from poultry farm owner in the state of Selangor. The descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multi-regression analysis are used to test the relationship between the independent variable with dependent variable. The results of the finding shows that supply chain integration, customer focus, supplier focus and quality leadership have no relationship toward quality performance. Only employee involvement have relationship with quality performance. The results of this study will help to encourage managers to give the high priority on both inter-firm and intra-firm relationships as a ways to achieve the superior quality performance. The results provide the managers with guidance on effective management to the upstream and downstream of supply chain networks and help to create awareness on the potential synergies that keep arise from the combinations effects of SCQM practices that could bring about desired quality performance outcomes across the whole supply chain network.

Relationship quality and supply chain quality performance: The effect of supply chain integration in hotel industry

AbstractThis study investigates the relationship between relationship quality and supply chain quality performance in hotel supply chain, through the mediating effect of supply chain integration. A questionnaire survey is used to collect data relating to the research hypotheses. Structural equation model technique is suited for our research goals, and the SmartPLS software is implemented to test the conceptual model. The results show that relationship quality has a direct and positive impact on supply chain quality performance; but after introducing mediating variable—supply chain integration, relationship quality indirectly affects supply chain quality performance through supply chain integration. This means that a good relationship quality can promote supply chain integration and ultimately improve supply chain quality performance.

Supply Chain Quality Performance Evaluation Model Based on Intuitionistic Fuzzy PROMETHEE

Aiming at the ambiguity and uncertainty in subjective group decision-making of supply chain quality performance evaluation, the traditional preference ranking organization methods for enrichment evaluation (PROMETHEE) is extended to a fuzzy environment, and a new intuitive fuzzy PROMETHEE model is proposed. The model uses intuitionistic fuzzy numbers to express the decision-maker’s semantic evaluation information, and establishes a trust function based on the evaluation information to determine the decision-maker’s weight. Then, use the method of maximizing the net flow to obtain the attribute weight. Finally, gather the evaluation information to obtain the decision group’s pros and cons. The validity and feasibility of the model is verified by an example.

A learning perspective of supply chain quality management: empirical evidence from US supply chains

PurposeThis paper aims to examine the relationship between supply chain quality management practices and their impact on supply chain performance. The authors define and operationalize supply chain quality management practices that enhance knowledge creation and learning in a supply chain.Design/methodology/approachData are collected from logistics and supply chain managers in the USA to examine the validity and reliability of the model for supply chain quality.FindingsThe empirical result provides support for the reliability and validity of the proposed model, the constructs used in the model, and the interrelationships among key constructs of supply chain quality. The authors show that trust is the main predictor of supply chain quality practices and supply chain quality performance outcomes. In addition, the findings show that the impact of trust on process improvement is mediated by information sharing, inter-firm trust and information sharing are significant predictors of supply chain satisfaction, and inter-firm trust and process improvement are significant predictors of supply chain performance. Implications of the research for the theory and practice of supply chain management and quality management are presented.Practical implicationsThis study provides important insights into effective implementation of quality management across the supply chain. Supply chain managers should realize that achieving improvement in many supply chain activities such as information sharing or process improvement requires organizations to be engaged in trust-based activities. In that regard, it is important for supply chain managers to be engaged in developing relationships with their supply chain partners that enhance inter-organizational trust.Originality/valueThis is the first study that examines a supply chain quality management model from the learning perspective. The authors validate the supply chain quality framework proposed by Parast (2103) through operationalization of the constructs, development of the relationship among key supply chain quality practices and empirical assessment of the structural model for supply chain quality.

The Impacts of Quality System Integration and Relationship Quality on Quality Performance in Supply Chains: An Empirical Investigation in China

ABSTRACT Product-safety incidents and recalls such as automobile recalls by Toyota and a recall of sausages by Shuanghui have raised many quality management challenges and attracted increasing attention from practitioners and academics researchers in recent years. Traditional quality management and quality function development can no longer effectively address these problems, with competition moving from the firm level to the supply chain level. In this study, a holistic supply chain quality management framework on the relationship between supply chain quality system integration, supply chain relationship quality, and quality performance is proposed to improve quality management and mitigate the risk of product recalls. Then a structural equation model is used to analyze these relationships. To test this model empirically, we use survey data from manufacturers in consumer electronics, food, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, and toys in China. Our results show that supply chain quality management can help companies achieve high quality. Further, quality system integration and relationship quality have significant impacts on the quality of design and of conformance and are positively related to supply chain quality performance.

The impact of management leadership on quality performance throughout a supply chain: an empirical study

Today, quality has become the essence of competitive advantage for all enterprises. As competition moves beyond a single firm into the supply chain, the focus is shifted from the management of internal quality practices alone to integrating these practices with those of external supply chain partners. All quality management models strongly emphasise the importance of leadership in a company’s top management to success in quality improvement and business excellence. Modern leadership theories have focused on transformational and transactional types of leadership. The literature suggests that the leadership capability in the form of the transformational style is the key determinant to success in all quality management practices and business excellence models. This empirical study investigates the influence of managers’ transformational leadership (TL) style on a firm’s quality performance from a supply chain perspective. An online survey of quality-related managers of enterprises operating in Turkey is conducted to measure the TL characteristics of managers and their impact on firms’ quality performance. A proposed research model and hypothesis are tested by using a Structural Equation Model. The results show that the level of the TL style of managers has a significant and positive impact on a firm’s supply chain quality performance.

Ensuring supply chain quality performance through applying the SCOR model

The objective of adopting quality standards such as ISO 9000 series is to help companies develop and maintain supply chain processes that meet certain performance metrics, such as those provided by the Supply Chain Operations Reference model (SCOR). Based on the survey data from 232 companies that have obtained ISO 9000 certification, this study extends the five decision areas (Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, and Return) of the SCOR model by integrating quality assurance measures in the supply chain process. The results show that individually, each decision area has a positive impact on both customer-facing supply chain quality performance and internal-facing firm level business performance. Collectively, ‘Plan’ and ‘Source’ decisions are more important to customer-facing supply chain performance (reliability, response, and flexibility), and ‘Make’ decisions positively affect internal-facing performance metrics (cost and asset).
