Effects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae on Pancreatic Alpha and Beta Cells and Metabolic Profile in Broilers.

To evaluate the impact of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) supplementation on pancreatic islet areas, alpha and beta cell populations, blood glucose levels, and lipid profiles in broilers, broilers were randomly assigned to two groups: a control group (T1) without SC and a treatment group (T2) supplemented with SC. Islet areas, alpha and beta cell counts, serum glucose and insulin levels, and lipid profiles were assessed. SC supplementation significantly decreased blood glucose levels compared to the control group. Additionally, HDL cholesterol levels were elevated in the SC-supplemented group. Although insulin levels remained unchanged, SC supplementation altered the correlation between pancreatic islet areas and alpha and beta cell populations, suggesting a potential influence on pancreatic islet function. Dietary supplementation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae can improve glycemic control and lipid profile in broilers. These findings highlight the potential benefits of using SC as a dietary additive in broiler production.

The Effects of Dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae Supplementation on Gut Microbiota Composition and Gut Health in Aged Labrador Retrievers.

The intestinal microbiome changes with age, influencing the host's health and immune status. Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) positively affects intestinal function in humans and animals, but its effects on gut health and the microbiota profile in aged dogs have not been thoroughly investigated. Twenty aged Labrador Retrievers were divided into two groups: a control group (CON) and a S. cerevisiae group (SC). The experiment lasted for 42 days, with assessments of their intestinal barrier function, inflammatory factors, antioxidant markers, and fecal microbiome composition. The results showed that dietary S. cerevisiae reduced the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β in the serum (p < 0.05). In the SC group, plasma superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities increased, while the level of malondialdehyde significantly decreased (p < 0.05). Additionally, dietary S. cerevisiae lowered the serum zonulin and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) levels (p < 0.05) and inhibited fecal ammonia production (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the microbiota profile showed that dietary S. cerevisiae decreased the abundance of Firmicutes but increased the Chao index, the abundance of Bacteroidetes, and the proportion of Bacteroidetes to Firmicutes (p < 0.05). To conclude, dietary S. cerevisiae can regulate the gut's microbial structure and gut health, which may contribute to the overall health of companion animals as they age.

Diet supplementation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae influences the electrophoretic parameters in blood in young Charolaise bulls.

The objective of the research was to investigate the effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation on some acute-phase proteins, haptoglobin and all electrophoretic parameters in young Charolaise bulls. Sixty bulls were divided into two equal groups: the control group (CG) receiving the base diet without yeast supplementation and the diet supplementation group (YG) receiving the base diet with 5g of Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation. The base diet was total mixed ration allocated at 11.85 kg per animal per day. Blood samples were collected from all bulls on day 0 before the start of the diet supplementation, and on days 20 and 40 after the start. Total proteins, albumin, globulin fraction (α1-, α2-, β1-, β2- and γ-globulins), albumin: globulin ratio (A: G) and haptoglobin were determined. Two-way analysis of variance showed a significant effect of the yeast feeding time on all studied parameters except α2-globulins in both groups. The YG showed a higher average concentration of total proteins, albumin and A: G and a lower average concentration of γ-globulins and haptoglobin than the CG. These results indicated the beneficial effect of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae on the inflammatory status of the young bulls, which showed an adequate response in serum levels of the acute-phase proteins tested.

Growth Performance of Buffalo Calves in Response to Different Diets with and without Saccharomyces cerevisiae Supplementation.

The aim of the present trial was to evaluate the growth performance of buffalo calves fed on diets characterized by different forage/concentrate ratios, with or without Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation (CBS 493.94, Yea-Sacc®). Twenty-four male buffalo calves (mean age of 145.1 ± 16.1 days; mean weight of 108.0 ± 18.7 kg) were assigned randomly to 4 groups, homogeneous in age, that were fed four different diets: diet 1, F:C ratio 50:50; diet 2, F:C ratio 30:70; diet 3, F:C ratio 50:50 + Yea-Sacc®; and diet 4, F:C ratio 30:70 + Yea-Sacc®. Buffalo calves were individually weighted before the start of the experiment and the data were used as a covariate, being taken monthly until the end of the trial. Dry matter intake (DMI), daily weight gain (DWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were calculated. The differences in diets composition significantly (p < 0.01) affected all these parameters. In particular, the animals fed diet 1 and diet 3 showed higher values of DWG (0.91 and 0.88 g/d vs. 0.68 and 0.66 for group 2 and 4) and DMI (5.8 and 5.3 kg/d, respectively) compared to the other groups (4.3 and 4.4 kg/d for group 2 and 4), as well as a higher final body weight (370.5 and 334.1 kg for group 1 and 3 vs. 272.8 and 273.1 kg of group 2 and 4, respectively). Indeed, the supplementation with Yea-Sacc® at the dosage of 1 × 10E8 did not affect buffaloes' growth performance.

Performance of Broiler Chickens Fed Different Cereal Based Diets Supplemented with Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Introduction: Inefficient poultry production has been a serious challenge due to poor performance and scarcity of feed resources, which necessitate the exploration of alternatives. This study was conducted to assess the effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) as a supplemental protein and growth promoter in different cereal-based diets on growth performance, serum biochemistry, characteristics of digesta, and nutrient digestibility of broiler chickens. Materials and methods: A total of 324 day-old broiler chickens, comprising of mix sexes with an average weight of 45.36 ± 0.73, were randomly assigned to nine treatments, each consisting of three replicates with 12 birds per replicate. Three diets were formulated, each incorporating maize, sorghum, and wheat. The diets varied in the SC inclusion at levels of 0%, 5%, and 0.2% oxytetracycline (used as a growth promoter). The inclusion of oxytetracycline was to simulate the practice of in-feed antibiotics growth promoter, whereas yeast served as supplemental protein and growth promoter. Titanium dioxide was included in the feed at 0.2% on day 21 of the experiment to help estimate nutrient digestibility. Results: Weight gain and feed conversion ratio were significantly lower in the groups fed sorghum with and without yeast. The groups fed maize with SC and oxytetracycline had the lowest blood glucose. Maize and sorghum without SC had the highest pH values. Protein digestibility was the lowest in the group fed sorghum with SC and wheat without SC. Conclusion: Individual cereal diets performed competitively, supplementation of SC in different cereal-based diets did not influence their contribution and performance of the chickens. The inclusion of 5% SC reduced protein digestibility. Oxytetracycline yeast as a supplemental protein and growth promoter did not improve the performance of the chicks.

Dietary inclusion of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite improved reproductive performance but did not affect intestinal permeability in two chicken meat breeder lines

Gastrointestinal dysbiosis is a disturbance in mucosal homeostasis, producing low-grade chronic intestinal inflammation and impaired intestinal barrier function. It is induced by several factors, including nutrition and stress, which are both significant factors when considering current broiler breeder practices. A great grandparent (GGP) chicken meat line was identified displaying clinical signs characteristic of potential dysbiosis, including wet droppings and litter, in addition to reduced reproductive performance when compared to a consistently high performing line. This study aimed to determine whether the reduced reproductive performance observed in these hens was a result of dysbiosis and whether dietary supplementation with a Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) fermentation product would alleviate clinical signs. Dietary inclusion of SC did not influence intestinal permeability, WBC differentials, or corticosterone concentration in either the wet litter (WL) or high-performing (HP) breeder lines. Compared to hens from the HP line, WL line hens had a significant increase in intestinal permeability at 26 wk (onset of lay). WL hen heterophil counts were increased markedly at week 26 before declining. At weeks 26, 32, and 37 there were also significant increases in monocytes. Higher plasma corticosterone was also observed in WL hens at 37 wk. No significant differences in heterophil to lymphocyte (H:L) ratios or feather corticosterone were observed between lines. Dietary inclusion of SC supplementation to breeder diets had some benefit in regards to reducing hen mortality, improving egg production and hatchability but only in the WL line. Results from this study did not indicate that hens from the wet litter line were experiencing gut dysbiosis. Chronic intestinal inflammation may be a possible reason for the increase in intestinal permeability. These results do indicate that both breeder lines may be exhibiting physiological stress. Future investigation into the physiology and behavior around point of lay is required to find novel strategies to alleviate this stress and in turn, potentially improve welfare and production outcomes.

Effect of supplementing live Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast on performance, rumen function, and metabolism during the transition period in Holstein dairy cows

Dairy cows have to face several nutritional challenges during the transition period, and live yeast supplementation appears to be beneficial in modulating rumen activity. In this study, we evaluated the effects of live yeast supplementation on rumen function, milk production, and metabolic and inflammatory conditions. Ten Holstein multiparous cows received either live Saccharomyces cerevisiae (strain Sc47; SCY) supplementation from -21 to 21 d from calving (DFC) or a control diet without yeast supplementation. Feed intake, milk yield, and rumination time were monitored until 35 DFC, and rumen fluid, feces, milk, and blood samples were collected at different time points. Compared with the control diet, SCY had increased dry matter intake (16.7 vs. 19.1 ± 0.8 kg/d in wk 2 and 3) and rumination time postpartum (449 vs. 504 ± 19.9 min/d in wk 5). Milk yield tended to be greater in SCY (40.1 vs. 45.2 ± 1.7 kg/d in wk 5), protein content tended to be higher, and somatic cell count was lower. In rumen fluid, acetate molar proportion was higher and that of propionate lower at 21 DFC, resulting in increased acetate:propionate and (acetate + butyrate):propionate ratios. Cows in the SCY group had lower fecal dry matter but higher acetate and lower propionate proportions on total volatile fatty acids at 3 DFC. Plasma analysis revealed a lower degree of inflammation after calving in SCY (i.e., lower haptoglobin concentration at 1 and 3 DFC) and a likely better liver function, as suggested by the lower γ-glutamyl transferase, even though paraoxonase was lower at 28 DFC. Plasma IL-1β concentration tended to be higher in SCY, as well as Mg and P. Overall, SCY supplementation improved rumen and hindgut fermentation profiles, also resulting in higher dry matter intake and rumination time postpartum. Moreover, the postcalving inflammatory response was milder and liver function appeared to be better. Altogether, these effects also led to greater milk yield and reduced the risk of metabolic diseases.

Effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation during the suckling period on performance of Awassi ewes.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of supplementing two levels of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) during suckling period on performance and serum metabolites of Awassi ewes. The study comprised two experimental periods, for experimental period 1, 30 nursing Awassi ewes with their single lambs were randomly assigned to one of three equal treatment groups: a control diet (CON; n=10), low SC (LSC) diet (0.4 g SC/head/day; n=10), and high SC (HSC) diet (0.8 g SC/head/day; n=10) with 9-week experimental periods including 1 week for dietary and pen adaptation and 8 weeks for data and sample collection. For experimental period 2, 4 ewes from each group were randomly selected and were individually housed in metabolism crates with 7-day experimental periods including 3 days for crate adaptation and 4 days for data and sample collection. The results showed that the supplementation of SC improved dry matter (DM) intake of ewes (P = 0.03). Digestibility of DM was higher (P < 0.05) for SC treatment groups. The SC treatment groups had a tendency improvement in digestibility of crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber. Addition of SC improved (P < 0.05) N balance parameters of ewes. A significant increase was observed for the rumen fluid pH of lactating ewe supplemented with SC. No difference was detected in the live weight change of lactating ewes in all treatment groups. The final body weight of the lambs tended to be greater for SC treatment groups vs CON group but average daily gain and total weight gain were significantly higher (P = 0.05) for SC treatment groups. Lactating ewes in the SC treatment groups produced more milk per day (P ≤ 0.05) than those in the CON diet. Milk fat % and yield in the SC treatment groups were also greater (P = 0.05). No differences were found in % of milk protein, lactose, and solid-not-fat (SNF) between all groups (P > 0.05) while lactose and SNF yields were greater (P < 0.05) for SC treatment groups. However, % of the total solids (TS) of milk was higher for HSC diet compared to LSC and CON diets (P < 0.05) while TS yields were significantly higher for SC treatment groups. Energy-corrected milk values were greater (P < 0.05) in HSC diet compared to LSC and CON diets. With the exception of aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase, no differences were detected in all other serum metabolite concentrations of lactating ewes in between treatment groups. In conclusion, this study indicates that SC supplementation with varying levels in the diet had a similar positive effect on some performance and physiological parameters of lactating Awassi ewes and their lambs.

Meta-analysis of the benefits of dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae intervention on milk yield and component characteristics in lactating small ruminants

Abstract Milk yield and components in small ruminants fed Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) have been investigated, but results were not consistent among investigators. Hence, this trial aimed to explore the efficacy of SC supplementation in improving milk yield and components (i.e., milk proteins, fat, lactose, total solids and ash) in small ruminants. A search performed in Scopus, PubMed and Google Scholar databases yield 1,826 studies, of which 26 met the inclusion criteria. Random-effects model was used to aggregate milk production variables. Meta-regression analysis examined the effect of the following moderators: SC type, ruminant type (sheep or goat), diet type, breed, duration of supplementation and supplementation levels on outcome measures. Subgroup analysis explored the influence of the following moderators: SC type and ruminant type on outcomes measures. SC had positive moderate effect on milk yield (standardised mean difference [SMD] = 0.72; p &lt; 0.001; heterogeneity [I 2] = 73%) and small effect on milk proteins (SMD = 0.46; p = 0.004; I 2 = 83%), milk lactose (SMD = 0.17; p = 0.007; I 2 = 0%) and fat (SMD = 0.28; p = 0.016; I 2 = 70%). Subgroup analysis revealed that SC improved milk yield, lactose and proteins in lactating sheep and milk yield and fat in lactating goats. Our results show that moderators influenced the results of the meta-analysis and explained most of the sources of heterogeneity. In conclusion, SC should be included in small ruminant diets as it had small-to-moderate effects on milk yield and aspects of milk components.

Meta-analysis of Saccharomyces cerevisiae on enhancement of growth performance, rumen fermentation and haemato-biochemical characteristics of growing goats

The use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) feed additives to improve animal performance are on the increase; however, the results of the action of SC supplementation on goats performance indices are conflicting. Thus, the thrust of this meta-analysis was to examine the influence of dietary SC intervention on the growth performance, haemato-biochemical indices and ruminal fermentation characteristics of growing goats fed total mixed ration (TMR). The search conducted in Google Scholar, PubMed and Scopus databases using several keywords yielded 500 studies of which 16 full-text articles were utilised for study. Response variables were aggregated via a random-effects model. The results showed that goats fed SC experienced higher average daily gain (ADG) than the controls (as standardized mean difference, SMD = 2.14; 95% confidence interval, CI: 1.40 to 2.89). In converse, dietary SC intervention had a small impact on dry matter intake (DMI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that SC type (active vs inactive) improved FCR and ADG in growing goats. Results suggested that SC preparation increased blood glucose, white blood cell (WBC), ruminal propionate and total volatile fatty acid levels. There is heterogeneity among the articles used in the study, and aspects of studied covariates explained the variation. In conclusion, this study indicated that dietary yeast can positively influence growth performance, haemato-biochemical indices, and rumen fermentation parameters of growing goats.

Effect of live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation on immune factors in Japanese Black calves during the growth periods.

The aim of this study was to investigate changes in expression levels of immune factors of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) after oral supplementation of live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to healthy Japanese Black (JB) calves. This study examined JB calves (N=28): 14 calves (SC Group) received 10 g/calf/day of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) (Acti-Saf Sc 47), and the other calves did not receive supplement (Control Group). Blood samples were collected 9 times during experimental period (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 months of age), and analyzed for cytokines and chemokines mRNA expression of PBMC using Real-time PCR. The level of beta Hydroxybutanoic acid (BHB) in the SC Group was significantly high at 7 and 8 months of age compared to that in the Control Group. Lymphocyte counts in the SC Group were significantly higher at 2 and 5 to 6 months of age compared to the Control Group. Significant differences were found for IL-12p40 level at 4, 7 and 9 months of age, and for IFN-γ level at 6, 7 and 8 months of age. The level of CXCR3 was significantly higher at 6 to 7 months of age by dietary SC supplementation. These results indicated that SC supplementation improved the cellular immune responses of JB calves.

Effects of Various Doses of Saccharomyces cerevisiae on the Growth, Survival Rate, and Blood Profile of Saline Red Tilapia (Oreochromisspp.) in the Semi-Intensive Culture Conditions

The availability of good feeding on fish performance is needed to improve the poor aquaculture condition. The study examines the effects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation on the growth, survival rate, and blood profile of saline red tilapia in the semi-intensive culture. Sixty saline red tilapia (4.58 ± 0.09 g) were divided into five groups and received standard feed with supplementation of S. cerevisiae at different doses: (A-E) 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 g/kg feed. S. cerevisiae was sprayed onto the feed and given to fish three times/day for 49 days. The efficiency of feed utilization (EFU), feed conversion ratio (FCR), the protein efficiency ratio (PER), relative growth rate (RGR), survival rate (SR), and blood profiles were examined. The water quality parameters were also evaluated, including temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, NH&lt;sub&gt;3&lt;/sub&gt;, and salinity. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by the Duncan test. The supplementation of 10 g/kg S. cerevisiae could significantly (p&lt;0.05) increase EFU (85.13%), PER (3.76), RGR (4.53%), and survival rate (97.53%), and decrease FCR (1.42) of the saline red tilapia. All doses of S. cerevisiae significantly (p&lt;0.05) increased the number of hematocytes (34.68, 35.96, 34.14, and 34.52%, respectively) and hemoglobin (12.98, 13.58, 12.73, and 12.67%, respectively) of fish. The highest number of erythrocytes and leucocytes was found in dose 10 g/kg feed. All water parameters were stable during the study. Therefore, S. cerevisiae can be used as a feed supplement for red tilapia fish to increase the growth, survival rate, and blood profile of the saline red tilapia.

EFFECT OF DIETARY SUPPLEMENTATION OF BAKER’S YEAST (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND CARCASS CHARACTERISTICS OF WEANER RABBITS (Oryctolagus cunniculus)

The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) supplement on the growth performance and carcass chracteristics of weaner rabbits. A commercial baker’s yeast containing Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used as the dietary supplement, four experimental diets were formulated. Diet 1 (basal diet), which was designated T1 and without supplementation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, serve as control diet. Diet 2, 3, and 4 were designated T2, T3 and T4 respectively, were supplemented with Saccharomyces cerevisiae at the rate of 20, 40 and 60g per kilogram of basal diet. The diets were in form of grain. Thirty six (36) weaner rabbits of mixed sex at ratio 2:1 (Females: male) were randomly allotted to four treatment groups in a complete randomized design. Each treatment was replicated three times with three rabbits per replicate. The trial lasted for a period of 8 weeks. Data on growth (initial growth, final weight, daily weight gain, total concentrate intake, total feed intake and feed conversion ratio) and carcass characteristics (cut-up parts and visceral organs) were recorded. The results obtained revealed no significant (P&gt;0.05) differences among the growth performance parameters except for feed intake which was higher (P&lt;0.05) in the control compared to T3 (40g/kg). Carcass characteristics of the experimental animals showed no significant (P&gt;0.05) difference in almost all the parameters measured with the exception of the neck. The values of internal organs and by-products revealed no significant (p&lt;0.05) difference in all the values obtained.

Efficacy of Various Feed Additives on Performance, Nutrient Digestibility, Bone Quality, Blood Constituents, and Phosphorus Absorption and Utilization of Broiler Chickens Fed Low Phosphorus Diet.

Simple SummarySkeletal disorders and related-welfare complications are an ongoing concern for rapid-growing broiler chickens. Phosphorus is a vital nutrient in the poultry diet, and it is related to bone growth and skeleton rigidity and strength. Poultry utilize approximately 60% of the dietary P, and the residual is excreted and may enter the environment leading to environmental pollution. Consequently, a better understanding of intestinal phosphorus absorption will enable augmenting phosphorus utilization and reducing phosphorus excretion and feed costs in the poultry industry. Therefore, the present trial was designed to assess various supplements on performance, nutrient digestibility, bone physical parameters and mineralization, blood constituents, bone and gut histomorphology, and duodenal phosphorus transporter genes of broiler chickens fed a decreased non-phytate phosphorus. The dietary addition of phytase or probiotic to a low phosphorus diet was beneficial with respect to growth performance and carcass traits. Regarding nutrient digestibility, tibia quality parameters, and gut and bone histomorphology, all three dietary supplements (probiotics, yeast, and fumaric acid) were advantageous, and these improvements were of comparable magnitude to those of the positive control and phytase groups. The up-regulation of duodenal NaP-IIb and PiT-2 genes in the supplemented groups may suggest greater phosphorus availability. It can be concluded that these supplements were beneficial in mitigating the negative effects of phosphorus reduction on the growth performance, health, and bone quality of broilers.The present trial was designed to assess the effect of phytase, multi-strain probiotic, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and fumaric acid on performance, nutrient digestibility, bone physical parameters and mineralization, blood constituents, bone and gut histomorphology, and duodenal phosphorus transporter genes of broiler chickens fed a decreased non-phytate phosphorus (nPP) diet for 5 weeks. A total of 480 broiler chickens were allotted to six dietary groups and eight replicates each: (1) positive control diet with recommended levels of nPP (PC; 0.48, 0.44, and 0.41% in the three feeding phases); (2) negative control diet with a decreased dietary nPP (NC; 0.28, 0.24, and 0.21% in the three feeding phases); (3) NC + 600 FTU/kg phytase (PHY); (4) NC + 0.05% multi-strain probiotic (PRO); (5) NC + 0.2% Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC); and (6) NC + 0.2% fumaric acid. Growth performance data were recorded weekly, and blood sampling was performed at days 21 and 35 of age. Bone quality traits, gut and tibia histology, nutrient digestibility, and intestinal gene expression analyses were conducted at the end of the trial (35 days of age). Final body weight and total gain at day 35 of age of the broiler chickens fed with the PHY, PRO, and SC diets were greater (p < 0.01) than in NC, where broilers fed with the PRO and PHY diets had higher values and were similar to that of PC. There was a non-significant variation in the cumulative feed intake among the treatment groups. The PHY and PRO groups had better FCR than the PC group (p < 0.05), and FA and SC had an FCR equivalent to that of PC. The PHY and PRO broilers had greater dressing % than the NC group (p < 0.05) and even better than PC. The PHY, PRO, SC, and FA broilers had higher relative weights of spleen and bursa of Fabricius (p < 0.01) than NC. In comparison to NC, the PHY, PRO, and SC groups improved (p < 0.05) CP, CF, Ca, and P digestibility. Greater tibia breaking strength of the low nPP-supplemented groups was shown to be associated with higher tibia ash, Ca, and P concentrations (p < 0.01) and increased (p < 0.001) tibia cortical area thickness. At days 21 and 35 of age, the dietary supplements to low nPP diets reduced (p < 0.05) serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, triiodothyronine, thyroxine, glucose, and alkaline phosphatase levels, while serum Ca and P concentrations were improved (p < 0.05) compared to NC. All supplements led to enhancement (p < 0.01) in villi height and width and villi absorptive surface area when compared with NC and were even comparable to that of PC. The mRNA expression of NaP-IIb was up-regulated (p < 0.001) in the duodenum of PRO and FA broilers at day 35 of age compared with NC, and their expression levels were similar to that of PC, indicating greater P availability. It is concluded that dietary supplementation of PHY, PRO, SC, and FA to a low nPP diet was advantageous and mitigated the negative impacts of P reduction on the growth performance, health, nutrient digestibility, and bone quality of broilers.

Dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae improves intestinal flora structure and barrier function of Pekin ducks

This study aimed at investigating the effects of dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) on the intestinal flora structure and barrier function of Pekin duck. A total of 180 1-day-old Pekin ducks were randomly divided into 3 groups with 6 replicates in each group and 10 birds per replicate. The birds in the control group (CON) were fed the basal diet, and those in the experimental group were fed the basal diets supplemented with 600 mg/kg SC (LSC) and 1,200 mg/kg (HSC), respectively. The trial lasted for 42 d. Results showed that LSC and HSC treatments tended to improve the feed conversion efficiency during the trial. The ileum length of birds in the LSC and HSC groups was elevated. Additionally, with 600mg/kg SC supplemented, the mRNA levels of villin, claudin3, and MUC 2 in d21 were up-regulated, as well as the mRNA levels of villin, claudin3, occludin, i-FABP, ZO-1, and MUC 2 in d42. In addition, dietary SC supplementation improved the α-diversity of the bacteria in cecal chyme and tended to increase the abundance (RA) of Bacteroidetes (P = 0.071). Besides, the RA of Ruminococcaceae_UCG-014 was raised in the LSC group. Beyond that, the RA of Proteobacteria was descended with two levels of SC added. In conclusion, dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae, particularly at 600 mg/kg level, improved the intestinal flora structure and barrier function of Pekin duck.

Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Saccharomyces cerevisiae feed supplements improve growth performance and gut mucosal architecture with modulations on cecal microbiota in red-feathered native chickens.

ObjectiveThe aim of study was to investigate the effects of in-feed supplementation of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (BA) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) on growth performance, gut integrity, and microbiota modulations in red-feathered native chickens (RFCs).MethodsA total of 18,000 RFCs in a commercial farm were evenly assigned into two dietary treatments (control diet; 0.05% BA and 0.05% SC) by randomization and raised for 11 weeks in two separate houses. Fifty RFCs in each group were randomly selected and raised in the original house with the partition for performance evaluations at the age of 9 and 11 weeks. Six non-partitioned RFCs per group were randomly selected for analyses of intestinal architecture and 16S rRNA metagenomics.ResultsFeeding BA and SC increased the body weight and body weight gain, significantly at the age of 11 weeks (p<0.05). The villus height/crypt ratio in the small intestines and Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio were also notably increased (p<0.05). The supplementation did not disturb the microbial community structure but promote the featured microbial shifts characterized by the significant increments of Bernesiella, Prevotellaceae_NK3B31_group, and Butyrucimonas, following remarkable decrements of Bacteroides, Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group, and Succinatimonas in RFCs with growth benefits. Besides, functional pathways of peptidoglycan biosynthesis, nucleotide excision repair, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, and aminoacyl transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA) biosynthesis were significantly promoted (p< 0.05).ConclusionIn-feed supplementation of BA and SC enhanced the growth performance, improved mucosal architectures in small intestines, and modulated the cecal microbiota and metabolic pathways in RFCs.

Growth performance, nutrient utilization and carcass characteristics of rabbits on probiotic supplementation

An experiment was conducted to study the effects of probiotic supplementation on growth, nutrient utilization and carcass traits in rabbits. Atotal of 60 weaner (28 days-old) Soviet Chinchilla rabbits were divided in four groups of 15 each. Pellet feed was supplemented with live microbial cultures of Lactobacillus plantarum (LP), Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) and combination of both L. plantarum + S. cerevisiae (LP+SC), whereas control group was supplemented with equal amount of culture medium. The rabbits were fed ad libitum pellet feed up to 84 days of age. The microbial population in feed pellets was 106 Cfu/g pellet feed. Body weight gain (28 to 84 days) was significantly (p<0.05) higher in LP+SC (1837 g) than control (1751 g), LP (1751 g) and SC (1774 g) groups. Higher digestibility of acid detergent fibre and cellulose was also recorded in LP+SC (14.6 and 22.4%) than LP (11.6 and 19.7%) and SC (11.3 and 18.8%). Carcass characteristics were not influenced in all the four treatment groups. The study suggested that supplementation of SC in feed pellets improved body weight gain in rabbits.

МЕТА-АНАЛІЗ ВПЛИВУ ДІЄТИЧНОЇ ДОБАВКИ SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE MUGL 39885 НА ВІДГОДІВЛЕНУ ПРОДУКТИВНІСТЬ ПРОМИСЛОВИХ КРОЛІВ

A study was conducted to determine the effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation in the diet of growing rabbits on their mortality, fattening performance and feed conversion rates. In a pooled analysis, supplementation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to the diet of growing rabbits caused a significant increase in final weight by 132.24 g (non-standardized average difference). According to the obtained data, there is a systematic error associated with publication bias (Egger's test, p =&lt;0.001) and high heterogeneity between studies (I2 = 92.9 %, p&lt;0.001). The results of the Q-test (χ2=282.733) and its p-level (&lt;0.001) indicate the occurrence of statistically significant heterogeneity and the null hypothesis which states that all studies share a common effect size was rejected. The effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae administration was not characterized by statistically significant variation in the genetic subgroups of rabbits (test for subgroup differences: p=0.759). In parallel there was a statistically significant variation in subgroups of SC dose (test for subgroup differences: p=0.04). When a higher concentration of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used, the average final weight in the experimental group was 209.23 g higher than the final weight in the control group. When a lower concentration of SC was used, the average final weight in experiment was more than the control by 93.38 g. In own researches Saccharomyces cerevisiae (MUGL 39885, 0.01% - 15 billion cell per gram) was added to the feed for the experimental group before granulation. After 37 days of fattening, the control group reached an average weight of 2230 g, whereas the weight for the experimental group was 2608 g, probably due to the better FCR in the experimental group. Both mentioned differences were significant. Whereas the daily feed intake did not differ in the studied groups. Comparison of the rabbit survival in each group showed no significant difference for the one-sided t-criterion (p=0.097). Therefore, the usage of feed with Saccharomyces cerevisiae additive affects the results conceding rabbits fattening. Experimental group obtained the statistically significant best average final weight, daily gain and feed conversion ratio in the same raising conditions. It confirms the results obtained from the meta-analysis. At the same time, there is no statistically proven change in feed intake between groups, and that is a promising and important economic and ecological result.

Impact of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Boulardii Supplementation As Probiotic On Productive Performance And Economic Efficiency Of Growing Rabbits

Our study was carried out at the farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Egypt. The average temperatures were 18.4°C and 23.9 °C from December 2017 - February 2018 to study the effects of Saccharomycescerevisiaeboulardii supplementation (as feed additives) on productive performance of growing rabbits. Sixty growing rabbits of the NZW (New Zealand White Rabbits), (4 weeks old) and weighted (603.62 gm mean body weight) were randomly distributed into 4 treated groups, n=15 rabbits per each group. Rabbits of supplemented groups were given 100 (R1), 200 (R2) and 400 (R3) gm/ton feed of Saccharomyces cerevisiaeboulardii mixed in the diet for 6 successive weeks. Individual live body weight was noted weekly from start till the end of the experiment. At the end of the experimental period, 10 rabbits (from each group) were fasting for 12 hrs, then slaughtered for carcass traits measure. Experimental lighting system was 16-hours photoperiod /day (16L: 8D) through both daily natural and the artificial fluorescent lighting. A pelleted ration of 17.3% crude protein, 13.37% crude fiber and 2510 kcal of digestible energy per kg feed was offered ad libitum all the time. Results revealed significant (P≤0.05) increases in the final body weight and daily weight gain with saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation when compared with control group. Though, significantly (P≤0.05) improved feed conversion ratio in all treated groups compared with control one were noticed. Feed intake was the lower in treated groups than control group. There were significant (P≤0.05) increasing in hot carcass weight and carcass percentage with respect to the control group. Supplemented Saccharomycescerevisiae reduced (P≤0.05) the liver, heart, lungs and kidneys percentages compared the control group. Supplemented rabbit feeds with saccharomycescerevisiaeboulardii in their diets had highly increasing in relative economic efficiency and clear improvement of net revenue than control group.
