Majalah Mangle: Penjaga Kearifan Lokal dan Peranannya Dalam Melestarikan Bahasa dan Budaya Sunda 1957 -1998

This article analyzes on the development of Mangle as local magazine in the mid of modernization and its role to preserved Sundanese cultural heritage. There are three periods that successfully divided to analyze the development of the magazine, pioneering (1957-1959), triumph (1959-1972), and surviving (1972-1998) periods. By using historical method, it can be revealed conditions and problems faced by the editor of Mangle in each period. In the meantime, there are several factors that led the existence of Mangle for more than half a century. Some of these factors are 1) editorial persistence in maintaining commitment, 2) ability to present information according the reader’s needs and wishes, and 3) reader loyalty. Mangle proved faithfully to be a preservation media for Sundanese culture. Through the editorial teams, Mangle was successfully managed to maintain the author's regeneration by let the new generation of Sundanese writers involved into the magazine pubilcation.

Enculturation in The Life Pattern of Breast Cancer Patients: An Ethno-Nursing Study on Sundanese Women

Introduction: Death of breast cancer remains the highest position in the totem of incidents not only in Indonesia but also in the world. Its treatment process, which in fact brings huge impacts to the life quality of breast cancer patients in terms of physique, psychology, and social life, shapes a number of behavioral patterns throughout their life. The aim of this research is thus to explore patterns of breast cancer patients in sustaining their lifespan.Methods: This research is designed using ethno-nursing qualitative approach. The sampling technique is done purposively to 6 informants, all of whom are breast cancer patients in Garut District, West Java, Indonesia. Data collecting is done through interviews and participatory observation. Data transcription is analyzed using ethno-nursing analysis method.Results: The result of the research shows four domains occurring as a pattern of inculturation of breast cancer patients in Sundanese culture, namely 1) dedication as wife and mother of Sundanese breast cancer patients, 2) medicine seeking for the rest of their life, 3) factors affecting to breast cancer patients adaptation for daily routines, and 4) family gathering as a meaning for end of life.Discussion: The result of this research shows an interconnected cultural pattern in the life of these patients. It is thus advised that nurses provide service to breast cancer clients by applying nursing care inherent to their cultural values.

SUNDANESE ETHNOMATHEMATICS: MATHEMATICAL ACTIVITIES IN ESTIMATING, MEASURING, AND MAKING PATTERNS

Mathematics is a form of culture integrated in all aspects of society, wherever there are, including the sundanese ethnic communities. This enables the mathematical concepts embedded in cultural practices and recognizes that all people develop a special way of doing mathematics called ethnomathematics activities. Sundanese ethnomathematics is mathematics in sundanese culture implemented in community activities. Sundanese ethnic sundanese people living in the area of West Java Indonesia, speaking sundanese language, and having activities reflecting sundanese culture. Sundanese ethnomathematics in this study has three activities, namely estimating, measuring, and making patterns appearing in the activities in term of kibik (a unit for measuring volume), bata (a unit for measuring surface area), and path pihuntuan (a model of cane work). Reconstruction of Clothing Menak Sunda Media Planting Values Culture Local Wisdom Sunda

The scope of this study relates to the reconstruction of the Sunda ethnic clothing, especially in Bandung marvelous fashion with the intention to reinvest the values of local wisdom Sundanese culture. On Sunda marvelous fashion reconstruction used an experimental method with the following stages: a. Making fashion design Menak Sunda, b. Selection of materials/ material, c. Manufacture of clothing Menak Sunda/ Bandung. Experimental method used to reintroduce a form of fashion Menak Bandung to the public. The results showed that clothing menak Sundanese source can be found in museums Prabu GESAN Ulun is Menak Clothing Bandung. Reconstruction fashion Menak also functions as a medium in instilling the values of local wisdom of Sundanese culture, especially related to the fashion area of Indonesia. Clothing is a cultural phenomenon in a culture, because it is through the visual language/ visualization of clothing, it can be studied, explored and revealed the values contained therein. It also can be a communication medium that has a historical past and the meaning of positive values for the local culture then submitted at the present or future.

Pola Pewarisan Nilai yang Berimplikasi Bimbingan pada Pancakaki Bani Nuryayi

One of family functions is to maintain relationship among generations, where the prior generation leaves the influence to the next generation. The family system built then become widespread, not only has two generations but unfold to many generation in building kinship system. The kinship system in Sundanese culture is known as Pancakaki. The individual and social function of pancakaki varies in each period, so that in historical period, society of Sundanese are able to keep values of Sundanese established by their own social system. Pancakaki not only strengthens cultural identity of ancestor heritage, but also as a means for preparing, maintaining and developing a collaboration relation among members based on their values. As an example of the implementation of the pancakaki, Bani Nuryayi kept strongly maintains tradition that was taught by Kyai Nuryayi. This inheritance is sustainable by using patron-client approach. Therefore, pancakaki becomes an effective education pattern for inheritance of cultural values and tradition to the next generation. The implication on Guidance and Counseling that Pancakaki system as an exclusive means of family as coordinate institution for school in order to support optimalitation of personality development and integrity of student identity.

THE SUNDANESE PUPPETS APPEARANCE AS THE REPRESENTATION OF THEIR CHARACTERS IN MAHABHARATA PLAY

This study not only aims to introduce Sundanese culture which is part of Indonesian culture, but also analyses the phenomenon that exists in Sundanese puppets performance as one of the entertainment for the Sundanese people with Semiotic. In this study, the researcher analyzed two factors that determined the result of this research. Firstly, the researcher found the role of color as a kind of pictorial metaphor. In each puppet, it will be seen whether the dominant color of puppet represents the characteristics corresponding to the color or has a significant difference. The secondly, the researcher analysed the appearance of each puppets. This research used four puppets from category of Panakawan, two puppets from category of Knight, and two puppets from category of Giant. Qualitative method is used for describing the result and the result showed that almost puppets appearance represented their character except Cepot that also known as Astrajingga. ETHNOMATHEMATICS IN PERSPECTIVE OF SUNDANESE CULTURE

This study is an exploratory research aims to find and know about a phenomenon by exploration. Therefore, the approach used in this study is ethnographic approach, an empirical and theoretical approach to get description and deep analysis about a culture based on field study. From the sustainable interviews and confirmation about field research with some community leaders in Cipatujah district, Tasikmalaya regency and in Santolo Pameungpeuk beach, Garut regency; it is found that Ethnomathematics is still widely used by Sundanese people especially in rural areas: the use of measurement units, mathematical modeling, and the use of clock symbols. The results of this study can be useful for Sundanese people and the government of West Java in education, cultural services, and tourism.

INTERNALISASI NILAI KEBUDAYAAN SUNDA DALAM PROGRAM REBO NYUNDA DI KOTA BANDUNG

The study was backed by the fears of loss of culture of sunda in West Java, especially in Bandung. This caused the modernization cannot be avoided by all layers of society, where technological progress is faster than the advancement of values and culture. In Bandung, there have been programs Rebo Nyunda held every Wednesday by the entire community of Bandung, especially students with language and dress of sunda. However, for the implementation of the programme of the community Rebo Nyunda yet entirely able to implement, especially for the young generation of students as the successor Nations. To get an overview about the internalization of cultural value in the program Nyunda Rebo, researchers using qualitative approach. The research States that students are still very influenced by modernization, there are some difficulties that students internalize the value of Sundanese culture, and some have a desire to develop a culture of sunda but the environment has not been supportive. Factors restricting the internalization of the values that is consciousness itself, because the students are still lack of knowledge, peers frequently make fun of, and environment outside of school.

CULTIVATING CHARACTER EDUCATION BASED ON SUNDANESE CULTURE LOCAL WISDOM

This study was aimed at determining the role of city government in cultivating character values based on Sundanese culture local wisdom to develop students’ life skill; describing the process, and impact of character values education; investigating both supporting and inhibiting factors of character values education process in developing students' life skills. This study which applied case study was conducted at public and private madrasah aliyah in Bandung. The finding shows that the city government plays important role in developing the Sundanese culture-based character values by issuing a policy in the form of Regulation No. 9 of 2012 concerning the use and preservation of language, literature, and Sundanese script. Madrasah aliyah used learning and mentoring to implement character education program. Character education is supported by several factors and this study found some factors inhibiting character education process.

Seren Taun Guru Bumi Harmony of Islam and Pasundan Culture

The advent of Islam in Tatar Sunda (West Java) lent a new color to the culture that had previously existed there. The nature of Islam which was friendly to the local culture, made it easy to be accepted by the Sundanese people without bloodshed. The results are a variety of cultural rituals rooted in Sundanese culture yet rich with Islamic culture. Seren Taun Guru Bumi is one of the rituals of the Sundanese people deeply-rooted in the belief of Nyi Pohaci (Dewi Sri) as the goddess of fertility. The involvement of the researcher in this ritual made the data a primary source which is the implementation of Seren Taun Guru Bumi in Sindang Barang Cultural Village, Bogor, West Java. This research shows that the ritual of Seren Taun Guru Bumi is a form of Islamic harmony with the Sundanese culture. Islamic culture assimilates in the frame of Sundanese traditions in Tatar Sunda, in which both are brought together in the ritual as a form of gratitude to God Almighty.

PERAN NILAI BUDAYA SUNDA DALAM POLA ASUH ORANG TUA BAGI PEMBENTUKAN KARAKTER SOSIAL ANAK (Studi Deskriptif di Desa Suntenjaya Kec. Lembang Kab. Bandung Barat)

Abstract--It is undeniable that at this point Sundanese culture was being shifted due to the development of globalization. Many sundanese values are displaced or even weakened. Parents provide upbringing with sundanese value so that children will have decent characters and will have affected the social behavior in them. Ekadjati stated that Sundanese culture is a culture which lives, grows and develops within Sundanese people who generally live in West Java. According to Thoha, parenting itself is a great way adopted by parents in teaching their child which is seen as an act of taking responsibility upon the children. Besides Sundanese culture and Parenting, the character building which has been done by parents to the favor of their children is not only to guide and foster the intellectual competence and mechanical skills of each child but also focused in achieving the character growth and development.Keywords: Sundanese cultural values, Parenting and Character Building

The Influence of Local Wisdom on the Actualisation of Educative, Scientific and Religious Behaviour on anAcademic Environment in a University

This paper examines the influence of local wisdom on academic environment in an Institution of higher education. The Sundanese values have been used as a case in point to examine how culture, scientific and religious values can influence educationwithin an academic society. In Sundanese culture, we find patterned intellectual and moral creativity which contains a system ofmoral values and norms as a form of etiquette, which are interrelated and adhere to tried and tested values, considered worthy, valuable and important and can function as a guide within an academic environment. In regard to this view, the present research attempts to establish: the values of Sundanese local wisdom believed-in and professed by Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia’s academic society, in specific by the heads of study programmes and departments; the key values ofscientific, educative and religious behaviour actualised in UPI academic society; and the strengths and weaknesses of key Sundanese local values whichinfluence the level of actualisation of scientific, educative and religious behaviour of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. In conclusion, this study has established that Sundanese local valuesembraced by Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia’s academic environment are characterised by nine indicators, which aremodeling, caring, discussion, providing guidance, putting the public interest first, gentleness, prioritising dialogue, friendliness and lovingness. Empirically, as a theoritical construct, actualisation of scientific behaviour by Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia’s academic environment is characterised by five indicators, which are flexibilityand openness to scientific ideas, critical questioning, environmental sensitivity, curiosity and understanding and searching for evidence before accepting statements.

MODEL PEMBERDAYAAN HUKUM LINGKUNGAN RELIGIUS – KOSMIK SEBAGAI UPAYA PELESTARIAN FUNGSI LINGKUNGAN HIDUP


 This paper is derived from the results of research that seeks to elevate the values of Sundanese cultural wisdom in environment conservation efforts by building a model of environmental law with religious empowerment-based cosmic Watershed (DAS) based on the conception of Sundanese culture. This model emphasizes deemed necessary because the relationship between justice and ecological balance and social justice, equality and better accommodate a balance between social welfare and environmental harmony.It is also illustrated how human interaction with the environment with the objective picture of rural communities in implementing value if Ciomas ancestral cultural values in environment conservation efforts and how to implement the values of the Sundanese cultural wisdom in the formulation development of environmental law in Indonesia to be more characteristic of Indonesia.

The Ancestral Heritage: Sundanese Traditional Houses Of Kampung Naga, West Java, Indonesia

Sundanese are the largest indigenous ethnic group in the western part of Java Island. Sundanese culture closely relates to Animist, Hindu-Buddhist, and Islam philosophies. It led to the unique creation of the Sundanese traditional houses called Rumah Adat in Kampung Naga where the ancient tradition from their ancestor were upheld until today. Kampung Naga was listed as one of the Sundanese traditional villages known as Kampung Adat in West Java. This village has its own characteristics which enable the conveyance of tremendous tradition from the past, since the reign of Padjajaran Kingdom to the present. Additionally, it has the ability to accelerate globalization of culture these days. The objectives of this paper are to reintroduce and observe the in-depth meaning of Sundanese traditional houses within Kampung Naga. This paper employed qualitative investigation with the support of exploratory literature review. The result of this study portrayed that Sundanese traditional village are depicted as sacred spaces when the founder, the belief, and the nature spirit are interrelated. Thus, the creation of traditional houses in Kampung Naga does not only serve as shelters, but it also has “breath”, “soul” and may embody cosmological value. This paper is prominent in the documentation of Sundanese traditional buildings as one of cultural identity of Indonesia, which will deliver the cultural knowledge to the world wide.

Kajian Emotional Branding dan Budaya Etnik Sunda pada Restoran Tradisional Sunda (Studi Kasus: Restoran Sindang Reret dan Restoran Bumbu Desa)

Emotional Branding is an incorporated four strategic key factors, such as relationship, sensory experience, imagination, and vision. These four key factors create a "dialogue" among one brand and its consumer which fulfill their needs as well as their desires. This research aim for a determination of the branding strategies used in two Sundanese restaurants. The analysis focused on the corporate identities from two Sundanese restaurants as well as their tangible and intangible identities that regarded to the Sundanese culture. Data were collected through several observations, evaluations, and interview completed through a Focus Group Discussion. Afterward, the data were compiled and analyzed through the theory of Emotional Branding and the study of Sundanese culture. Therefore, this research is considered as a Qualitative Descriptive Analysis research. The findings of this research show that the a corporate identities of these two restaurants has been using the Sundanese ethnic culture for a while till today. A local ethnic culture considered as one of the trends in the branding design which involve several parties (especially designers) to process the design components in such a way that the local ethnic culture is not turned into a merely "cosmetic" of brand identity. Through Emotional Branding, someone could make Sundanese's culinary as a lifestyle by promoting the authenticity of its tradition supported by the four factors that exist in Emotional Branding.

SUNDANESE LANGUAGE SURVIVAL AMONG INDONESIAN DIASPORA FAMILIES IN MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

Most migrant families living anywhere in the world, are concerned with maintaining their ethnic language, in order to sustain a sense of belonging to the country of their origin and enable extended family harmony. This study explores the survival of Sundanese language among eight Indonesian families of West Java origin (Sundanese speakers) living permanently in Melbourne, Australia. Most of these families migrated to Australia in the 1950s as Colombo Plan scholars and unskilled labourers. Semi-structured interviews and home observations showed that, despite believing in the importance of Sundanese language in their diasporic life, speaking Sundanese is the only practice that most of the participating parents, can do to maintain their language, alongside Bahasa Indonesia and English, to show they belong to the Sundanese culture. However, Sundanese language levels of politeness limit its use among their Australia-born second generation, making this ethnic language unlikely to survive. The young people only understand and copy a few routine words of greetings and short instructions. The study also suggests that the parents needed to be accommodative in order to maintain the Sundanese language by combining it with English and Bahasa Indonesia. ULAMA BOGOR DALAM PENGEMBANGAN TRADISI INTELEKTUAL:

As other ulamas generally, Bogor ulamas were responsible in developing the intellectual tradition of their society. This tradition was surely influenced by the local Sundanese culture where these ulamas held the central roles. However, the turning time, globalisation, and the borderless society had parsed local Sundanese cultures. This had served as a challenge for Bogor ulamas in maintaining the intellectual tradition with its religious and local nuances. As the cultural brokers, these ulamas’ writings were evidence of their efforts in maintaining the written tradition based on the local cultures and also on the current changes. This paper discusses the efforts taken by Bogor ulamas living in the 20th and the 21st centuries in building their intellectual tradition and adapting to the changes. Finally, it finds out that there are some discrepancies between the intellectual products of the past and the contemporary ulamas either in the content or in the languages as one form of local culture conservation.

PERAN BUDAYA DALAM KEHIDUPAN BERAGAMA KAJIAN ATAS KEHIDUPAN BERAGAMA UMAT KATOLIK SUNDA DI CIGUGUR

Religious life is directly related to cultural life. This is observable among Sundanese Catholics in Cigugur. In religious life, the respective Sundanese culture strongly marked its influence. The way one lives his or her religiosity also reflects their culture. It is common that religious people live together with other people of different religious belief and practices. In this context culture helps them to be able to live harmoniously with people from different religions. This article focuses on the history of the Catholic community in Cigugur, Kuningan while inquiring the role of the Sundanese culture in their daily life within their Catholic community.

PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA SUNDA DI WILAYAH PERBATASAN: DILEMA IMPLEMENTASI KURIKULUM 2013

Kurikulum 2013 menyediakan fleksibilitas untuk semua praktisi pendidikan formal untuk terus mengembangkan konten lokal sebagai sebuah bentuk kekayaan khas daerah yang perlu dijaga dan dilestarikan. Salah satu muatan lokal yang keberadaannya memiliki nilai-nilai penting adalah Bahasa Sunda. Pengajaran Bahasa Sunda di daerah di mana didasarkan pada budaya Sunda yang kuat, tidak akan menghadapi banyak kendala. Namun, di sudut-sudut daerah yang notabene merupakan kota/kabupaten dengan kondisi demografis yang sangat heterogen, tentu saja mengajar Bahasa Sunda akan penuh dengan tantangan. Sebagai contoh, di daerah yang berbatasan dengan budaya lain seperti Betawi dan Jawa, karena fleksibilitas budaya, masyarakat Sunda akan dipengaruhi oleh bahasa dan budaya Betawi atau Jawa. Tulisan ini merupakan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan di perbatasan kota Bogor, pada pelaksanaan kurikulum 2013, yang terus mengembangkan konten Bahasa Sunda untuk membekali siswa dengan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap khas budaya Sunda yang sesuai dengan<br />kearifan lokal. Namun di sisi lain, bertabrakan dengan dilema, di mana masyarakat perbatasan sangat heterogen, sehingga budaya dan bahasa Sunda tidak terpelihara dengan baik.
