Corrected QT interval and QT dispersion in temporal lobe epilepsy in children and adolescent

<b>Aim</b>: The purpose of this research was to contrast (heart-rate corrected QT interval) QTc, and (QT dispersion) QTd intervals in individuals with (temporal lobe epilepsy) TLE and those without TLE using a standard 12-lead electrocardiogram.<br /> <b>Patients & methods</b>: This cross-sectional research was undertaken on 100 cases aged 10 to 20 diagnosed with epilepsy in accordance with 2017 ILAE criteria. The patients’ informed written permission was acquired. In our study, we included 100 cases: 50 with TLE and 50 with non-TLE verified by seizure semiology. All patients were subjected to a comprehensive history, clinical examination (heart rate, pulse, and blood pressure), and clinical evaluation, which included a comprehensive epilepsy history. On the basis of neurology service documents or the initial publication of the international classification of diseases, 9<sup>th</sup> revision (ICD9) diagnostic or 10<sup>th</sup> revision (ICD10) codes for epilepsy, diagnostic age for epilepsy was calculated.<br /> <b>Results: </b>The mean QT interval in group I was 418.30±25.48 ms while that of group II was 406.20±27.63 ms, the mean QTc of group I was 513.60±61.94 ms and was 488.70±50.65 in group II. The calculated QTd was with a mean of 57.60±25.05 ms while that of group II was 43.60±31.89 ms. It means that the QT interval, QTc, and QTd values were considerably greater in the group I (temporal epilepsy) contrasted with group II (non-temporal epilepsy); (p=0.025, 0.030, and 0.016, respectively). The mean QT, QTc, and QTd values for FE were 409.20±20.80, 500.70±55.60, and 52.60±29.70 ms, respectively. QT, QTc, and QTd mean values for patients with widespread epilepsy were 412.00±25.60, 505.00±68.60, and 46.20±28.70 ms. QT, QTc, and QTd interval were insignificantly different between focal and generalized epilepsy. The longer an illness progresses, the longer the QT and QTc intervals, as there was a substantial positive correlation among illness’s course and QT interval (r=0.391, p<0.001) and QTc interval (r=0.289, p=0.011), but there was no noticeable impact on QTd due to the illness’s duration, as we found an insignificant correlation among duration of illness and QTC and QTd.<br /> <b>Conclusions: </b>Our findings indicate that; QTc interval and QTd are longer in epilepsy cases more among TLE cases contrasted with non-TLE. Since there was no distinction among different epilepsy types (focal and generalized).

Correlation between platelet metrics and cardiovascular risk in prediabetes with coronary artery disease: A two-year cross-sectional study

ObjectivesPrediabetes is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD), as even a 1% increase in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) may increase CAD severity and associated mortality over ten years. A definite association exists between platelet indices, CAD, and diabetes mellitus. Although research has demonstrated an association between CAD and prediabetes as well as platelet indices, there have been no attempts to assess the association of platelet indices in prediabetic patients who are at risk of CAD. MethodsA cross-sectional study took place between 2019 and 2020 in the medical department of a rural medical college located in Central Maharashtra, India. A total of 180 patients with prediabetes and documented CAD on coronary angiography were enrolled in this study. For all participants, platelet indices, blood sugar levels, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, lipid profiles, and anthropometric measurements were recorded, and then statistical analysis was conducted. ResultsMean platelet volume had a substantial positive correlation with HbA1c, fasting blood sugar, postprandial blood sugar, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, body mass index, waist circumference, and waist/hip ratio, with correlation coefficients of 0.2, 0.173, 0.219, 0.218, 0.234, 0.165, 0.182, and 0.164, respectively. A significant negative correlation was found between platelet distribution width and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) level, with a correlation coefficient of −0.373. ConclusionPlatelet indices, which are routinely available through standard clinical investigations, can effectively predict the risk of CAD in prediabetic patients. Their strong association with multiple risk factors allows for enhanced prognosis and facilitates early intervention planning for CAD in this high-risk group.

O-255 Ovarian Response Prediction Index (ORPI) as a predictor tool for ovarian response and clinical pregnancy in IVF/ICSI cycle : A Prospective Cohort Study

Abstract Study question Can incorporation of the Ovarian Response Prediction Index (ORPI), integrating AMH, AFC and age, offer a reliable prognostication of ovarian stimulation response in ART cycles? Summary answer The study affirms that ORPI, a three-variable index, emerges as a robust predictor for both ovarian response and clinical pregnancy rates within IVF/ICSI cycles. What is known already In the realm of individualized Controlled Ovarian Stimulation, precision in forecasting ovarian response proves pivotal. Ovarian reserve, influenced by age, AMH, and AFC, exhibits considerable heterogeneity among women of analogous age. While AMH and AFC function as pivotal markers, a holistic approach, exemplified by ORPI, stands out as a more comprehensive tool for predicting ovarian response. Study design, size, duration This prospective cohort study enrolled 302 subjects undergoing IVF cycles at a tertiary infertility center spanning from 1st January 2022 to 31st December 2023. Rigorous inclusion criteria mandated age ≤38 years, a BMI between 20–25 kg/m2, regular menstrual cycles, intact bilateral ovaries, no history of ovarian surgeries, absence of severe endometriosis, and no evidence of endocrine disorders. Participants/materials, setting, methods Subjects adhering to the inclusion criteria underwent venous blood sampling for AMH measurement and transvaginal ultrasound for AFC assessment. The ORPI was meticulously computed as (AMH × AFC) / patient age. Key endpoints encompassed the total oocytes retrieved, mature MII oocytes, and occurrences of clinical pregnancy. Rigorous statistical methodologies were employed for robust analysis. Main results and the role of chance The mean values for age (years), AMH (ng/mL), ORPI, AFC, and fertilized oocytes were 31.75 ± 4, 3.75 ± 3.39, 1.06 ± 1.22, 7.1 ± 2.94, and 6.11 ± 3.26, respectively. A highly significant positive correlation (p-value < 0.0001) was observed between ORPI and the numbers of oocytes and MII oocytes, with correlation coefficients of 0.714 and 0.746, respectively. Interpretation of the area under the ROC curve revealed that ORPI was a significant predictor of obtaining ≥4 oocytes at a cutoff point of > 0.2, with an area under the curve of 0.907. Similarly, for MII oocytes ≥4, ORPI was a significant predictor at a cutoff point of > 0.2, with an area under the curve of 0.937. In the case of positive clinical pregnancy, ORPI emerged as a significant predictor at a cutoff point of > 0.75, with an area under the curve of 0.822. The study underscored a substantial positive correlation between ORPI and both oocyte and MII oocyte counts, affirming ORPI’s pivotal role as a predictor for clinical pregnancy. Limitations, reasons for caution Limitations due to the constraint of sample size temper the generalizability of findings. The study did not account for live birth rates, and a comparative analysis with alternative markers was omitted. A more expansive, meticulously designed study is imperative. Wider implications of the findings ORPI, an innovative ovarian response biomarker, showcases considerable potential for predicting both ovarian response and clinical pregnancy rates. Its integration into individualized Controlled Ovarian Stimulation regimens holds promise for augmenting the counselling and prognostication process for patients embarking on IVF/ICSI cycles. The intergenerational correlation of employment: Mothers as role models?

Linking data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 (NLSY79) and the NLSY79 Children and Young Adults, we document a substantial positive correlation of employment status between mothers and their offspring in the United States. After controlling for ability, education, fertility and wealth, offspring of permanently employed mothers have an 11 percentage-point higher probability to be employed in each given year than those of never employed mothers. The intergenerational transmission of maternal employment is stronger to daughters but significant also to sons. Investigating potential mechanisms, we provide suggestive evidence for a role model channel, through which labor force participation may be transmitted. Offspring seem to emulate the example of their mother when they observe her working. By contrast, we are able to rule out alternative candidate explanations such as network effects, occupation-specific human capital and local conditions of the labor market.

Exploring the link between eustress and adolescent health in India: An empirical study

BACKGROUND: Modern psychological research challenges the conventional view of stress as solely detrimental by introducing the concept of eustress versus distress, emphasizing the potentially positive aspects of stress. In the context of India, limited studies have investigated the distinct effects of eustress and distress on adolescents, a group prone to stress-related health issues. This study aims to bridge this gap by examining the correlation between eustress and both mental and physical well-being among adolescents attending government schools in two districts of Haryana, India. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A non-experimental quantitative research approach was adopted to achieve this objective. The study involved a sample of 400 adolescent students, equally split between genders, aged 15 to 18 years, enrolled in grades 10 to 12. Participants were selected through systematic random sampling from two districts in Haryana. The assessment tools employed in the study included the Post Graduate Institute Health Questionnaire and the Eustress Scale, which were utilized to evaluate the participants’ mental, physical, and eustress levels. RESULTS: In our study involving Indian adolescents, we discovered a substantial positive correlation (r = 0.563, P < 0.01) between eustress and mental health, underlining the valuable role of positive stress in enhancing psychological well-being. Notably, male participants exhibited significantly higher eustress scores (mean = 26.63) than their female counterparts (mean = 22.82, P < 0.01), indicating gender-specific variations in stress responses. Furthermore, our findings emphasized the influence of cultural nuances inherent to the Indian context on how adolescents perceived and experienced eustress. These outcomes emphasize the urgency of culturally sensitive interventions to promote adolescents’ well-being. CONCLUSION: This investigation contributes valuable insights into the nexus between eustress and adolescent health in the Indian context. The study accentuates the potential advantages of leveraging eustress to foster positive development by underlining the differential influence of eustress and distress on adolescent health. Future research endeavors and policy formulation could delve into the mechanisms underpinning eustress and distress, thus guiding strategies to enhance adolescents’ health and overall well-being.

Impact of Covid-19 in Changing Lifestyle Notions of Green Consumers: A Case Study of Dhankuta Municipality

This study investigates the impact of COVID-19 on green consumer lifestyle choices in Dhankuta Municipality, Nepal, employing a mixed approach to understand global and local effects. Utilizing a theoretical framework encompassing Economic Theory, Planned Behavior Theory, and Ecological Modernization Theory, the research aims to uncover the true influence of COVID-19 on lifestyle notions and sustainable practices. The methodology involves stratified sampling to ensure diverse perspectives, with a sample size of 406 respondents aged 18 and above. Demographic findings reveal a nearly balanced gender distribution (60% male, 40% female), with a significant proportion (39.7%) in the 26-35 age group, indicating their crucial role in consumer decisions. Notably, 37.2% of respondents have experienced COVID-19 infection, providing insights into the pandemic's impact. Findings demonstrate a substantial positive correlation (r = 0.675, p < 0.01) between COVID-19 and willingness to pay for green products. Regression analysis reveals a significant relationship between the pandemic and changes in lifestyle notions, explaining 72.3% of the variance. These results underscore the need for sustained exploration of post-COVID green consumer behavior and inform strategies for policymakers and businesses in fostering sustainable consumption in Dhankuta Municipality, Nepal.

Does internal control improve enterprise environmental, social, and governance information disclosure? Evidence from China

AbstractEnvironmental, social, and governance (ESG) is a relatively new concept that emphasizes how to contribute to creating sustainable businesses. However, research on factors that influence ESG development is insufficient. This study explores how internal control influence enterprise ESG information disclosure, using 2009–2021 data from China's A‐share listed companies. The findings show a substantial positive correlation between internal control quality and corporate ESG information disclosure. Particularly, the internal control quality significantly affects corporate governance information disclosure. Moreover, the connection between internal control quality and enterprise ESG information disclosure is significantly and positively moderated by media attention. Specifically, negative media evaluations have significant impacts on enterprises. The main findings remain valid even after conducting multiple robustness tests, such as the lag test, propensity score matching, instrumental variable method, and alternative measurements for the key variables. This study widens the theoretical research frontier of internal and external supervision mechanisms.

R3 strain and Fe-Mn modified biochar reduce Cd absorption capacity of roots and available Cd content of soil by affecting rice rhizosphere and endosphere key flora

Microorganisms have a significant role in regulating the absorption and transportation of Cd in the soil-plant system. However, the mechanism by which key microbial taxa play a part in response to the absorption and transportation of Cd in rice under Cd stress requires further exploration. In this study, the cadmium-tolerant endophytic bacterium Herbaspirillum sp. R3 (R3) and Fe-Mn-modified biochar (Fe-Mn) were, respectively, applied to cadmium-contaminated rice paddies to investigate the effects of key bacterial taxa in the soil-rice system on the absorption and transportation of Cd in rice under different treatments. The results showed that both R3 and Fe-Mn treatments considerably decreased the content of cadmium in roots, stems and leaves of rice at the peak tillering stage by 17.24–49.28% in comparison to the control (CK). The cadmium content reduction effect of R3 treatment is better than that of Fe-Mn treatment. Further analysis revealed that the key bacterial taxa in rice roots under R3 treatment were Sideroxydans and Actinobacteria, and that their abundance showed a substantial positive correlation and a significant negative correlation with the capacity of rice roots to assimilate Cd from the surroundings, respectively. The significant increase in soil pH under Fe-Mn treatment, significant reduction in the relative abundances of Acidobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, Subdivision3 genera incertae sedis, Sideroxydans, Geobacter, Gp1, and Gp3, and the significant increase in the relative abundance of Thiobacillus among the soil bacterial taxa may be the main reasons for the decrease in available Cd content of the soil. In addition, both the R3 and Fe-Mn treatments showed some growth-promoting effects on rice, which may be related to their promotion of transformations of soil available nutrients. This paper describes the possible microbial mechanisms by which strain R3 and Fe-Mn biochar reduce Cd uptake in rice, providing a theoretical basis for the remediation of Cd contamination in rice and soil by utilizing key microbial taxa.

A Study on the Relationship between Social Support and Subjective Well being of Vocational College Students

The objective of this research is to examine the correlation between social support and subjective well-being among vocational college students using empirical surveys. The intention is to provide a foundation for increasing their mental health and improving their subjective well-being. A total of 375 students from vocational colleges were chosen as participants, and their levels of social support and subjective well-being were assessed by the administration of a questionnaire. The findings indicated a substantial positive correlation between subjective well-being and objective support, subjective support, usage of support, and the overall social support score. (2) Female vocational college students exhibit a notably greater degree of assistance use compared to their male counterparts. There exists a notable disparity in survival rates between students pursuing liberal arts and those studying science in terms of subjective well-being, with science students exhibiting much greater levels of subjective well-being compared to liberal arts students. There are notable variations seen across different grades in terms of objective support, subjective support, usage of support, overall social support score, and subjective well-being. Following the LSD post-test analysis, it was determined that freshman students exhibited significantly lower levels of objective support, subjective support, total social support score, and subjective well-being score compared to students in other grades. On the other hand, sophomore students scored significantly higher than students in other grades in terms of utilization of support. (3) A multiple regression analysis revealed that objective support, subjective support, and usage of support positively predict subjective well-being. This research examines the correlation between social support and subjective well-being and offers empirical evidence and theoretical direction to enhance the subjective well-being of vocational college students via more focused coaching.

Understanding the hydrocarbon‒generation potential on jurassic coal-measure source rocks in the Junggar Basin: From the perspective of hydrogen-rich molecular structure

The Jurassic coal-measure source rocks in the Junggar Basin have drawn considerable attention in recent years. In our hydrocarbon thermal simulation experiments of these rocks, we found that the dark mudstone evaluated as good source rock, had a much lower hydrocarbon generation capacity than the coal and carbonaceous mudstone, evaluated as poor source rock. Based on this background, we performed Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and combined the results of semi‒open thermal simulation experiments to explore the association between the molecular structure and hydrocarbon production capacity, with the aim of obtaining a new understanding of hydrocarbon potential of Jurassic coal‒measure source rocks from the perspective of molecular structure. The results indicate that coals exhibit lower condensation of aromatic structures and higher relative abundance of aliphatic structures with a higher degree of branched chaining than mudstones and carbonaceous mudstones. Apparent aromaticity (fa), aromatic abundance parameter I, and degree of condensation (DOC) are negatively correlated with organic matter abundance. The aliphatic structural parameter H demonstrates a substantial positive correlation with organic matter abundance. Furthermore, aliphatic relative abundance factor A is associated with the type of organic matter; the better is the type of the organic matter, the larger is the A value. The combination of the molecular structures with the thermal simulation results shows that the aliphatic hydrogen enrichment of selected carbonaceous mudstone is similar to that of coal. However, the relative abundance of the aliphatic group of it is high, and the DOC of the aromatic structure is low, making the hydrocarbon generation base stronger and easier to crack. Thus, the hydrocarbon generation capacity of carbonaceous mudstone is slightly higher than that of coal. Mudstone has low H and I values, and the DOC is high, indicating that its hydrocarbon base is low, so it has low hydrocarbon generation capacity. Therefore, the molecular structure is closely associated with the hydrocarbon potential of coal‒measure source rocks. When evaluating the qualities of coal-measure source rocks, the influence of molecular structure on these rocks should be considered.

Rigorous tests, including robust validity and reliability assessments, affirm a substantial positive correlation. Compensation and an improved work environment collectively contribute significantly, explaining a noteworthy 67% of the variance in enhanced employee performance. These findings highlight the strategic imperative of optimizing compensation structures and cultivating positive work environments, as they play a dominant role in driving a remarkable three-quarters of the observed performance improvements. Fun Game Based Learning Model to Enhance Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) Children with Mild Intellectual Disability

Children with mild intellectual disabilities struggle with learning, particularly in movement skills. Limited support facilities not tailored to their needs. FMS learning model centered on "Getting to Know Flowering Plants", enhancing movement skills and incorporating cognitive tasks. The research methodology employed in this study follows Borg and Gall's Research and Development approach. Procedure basically consists of two main objectives, namely: (1) developing products and; (2) testing the effectiveness of the product to achieve the goal. Small group trial subjects included 13 students (7 boys, 6 girls 9-10 years old) and 4 teachers, while large group trial subjects involved 26 students (12 boys, 14 girls 9-10 years old) and 4 teachers in the 3 SLB in Palembang city. The CVR analysis results for model indicate a value of 0.6, falling within the range of 1 to -1. This signifies that the content of the FMS getting to know flowering plants is deemed appropriate, relevant, and of high content validity. Upon calculating the correlation coefficient between rater test data for getting to know flowering plants instrument across movement skills, cognitive aspects, fun elements, and attention focus aspects, it is observed that there is a strong positive relationship between the scores assigned by rater 1 and the overall rater scores. Similarly, there is a substantial positive correlation between the scores given by rater 2 and the total rater score. Additionally, the relationship between rater score 3 and the total scores among raters also exhibits a significant positive relationship (p > 0.05).

Informal digital learning of English and EFL teachers’ job engagement: Exploring the mediating role of technological pedagogical content knowledge and digital competence

The integration of technology in English as a foreign language (EFL) education has catalyzed informal digital learning of English (IDLE). EFL teachers increasingly partake in IDLE for diverse reasons: enhancing language skills, broadening pedagogical methods, accessing professional growth, and pursuing personal interests, potentially boosting job engagement. Yet, scant attention has been paid to IDLE's impact on EFL teacher-related aspects like job engagement, technological pedagogical content knowledge, and digital competence. This research probes the link between IDLE and EFL teacher job engagement, exploring the mediating roles of technological pedagogical content knowledge and digital competence. 375 EFL teachers were selected via convenience sampling and invited to complete scales measuring IDLE, technological pedagogical content knowledge, digital competence, and job engagement. The results of structural equation modeling revealed that technological pedagogical content knowledge and digital competence strongly mediated the relationship between IDLE and job engagement among EFL teachers. Additionally, a significant positive correlation was found between IDLE and the EFL teachers' job engagement. Furthermore, the findings disclosed a substantial positive correlation between IDLE and the EFL teachers' technological pedagogical content knowledge and digital competence. The findings underscore that IDLE can be incorporated in EFL education to improve EFL teachers' efficiency.

Advancing nuanced pollution control: Local improvements and spatial spillovers of policies on key enterprises

This paper examines the impact of air pollution control policies targeting key polluting enterprises, highlighting a strategic shift towards precision pollution control that concentrates on high-emission, high-risk businesses. The paper explores the efficacy of these policies and their potential spatial spillover effects, utilizing panel data from 259 Chinese cities from 2013 to 2021. Employing the difference-in-differences (DID) model and spatial Durbin model, the study analyzes both the direct local effects and the broader spatial consequences of these regulatory measures on air quality. The findings indicate a significant reduction in air pollutant concentrations in urban areas, attributing this improvement to factors such as industrial restructuring, increased investment in science and technology, and economic growth. Spatial econometric analysis further reveals a substantial positive correlation in air quality among Chinese cities. However, estimates of the spillover effect indicate that while such policies successfully reduce pollution locally, they could unintentionally degrade air quality in adjacent areas. The study highlights the need for nuanced policy strategies to mitigate unintended spatial spillovers and enhance overall effectiveness. The Impact of Changes in Tax Regulations on Corporate Tax Avoidance Practices in Indonesia

Using a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS), this study examines the effects of tax law changes on business tax evasion practices in Indonesia. The research delves into the moderating impacts of industry type and economic conditions, in addition to the mediating roles of corporate financial structure and firm size. Each of the 150 companies in the sample, which come from a variety of industries, offers insightful information about their operational and financial traits. The findings show that corporate tax avoidance and changes in tax laws have a substantial positive correlation, which is mediated by company financial structure and business size. The moderating effects of business type and economic conditions are evident, underscoring the significance of industry-specific characteristics and contextual economic factors in comprehending the behavior of corporation taxes. Policymakers, tax authorities, and enterprises can benefit from the findings, which offer practical insights for formulating and enforcing tax policies.

However, its prognostic and immunotherapeutic predictive significance has not been documented in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The TCGA, ICGC, and GSE14520 datasets were used to investigate VRK1 expression and its predictive significance of survival outcomes. The qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were used to confirm the findings. The immunotherapeutic response of VRK1 was anticipated by the IMvigor210 cohort. Lastly, the association between immune infiltration, m6A modification, and functional enrichment of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was investigated in connection to VRK1 expression. VRK1 expression was markedly elevated on both the mRNA and protein levels in HCC. In HCC patients, a high expression of VRK1 was linked to a poor prognosis. Furthermore, there was a substantial positive correlation seen between increased VRK1 expression and the response rate to anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy. Relationships between VRK1 and m6A-related genes as well as different immune cells were shown by correlation studies. Lastly, enrichment analysis revealed a tight relationship between VRK1 and important biological functions, including DNA replication, cell cycle control, and fatty acid metabolism. Our research reveals the potential of VRK1 as a novel biomarker for prognosis and immunotherapy response in HCC patients.

Analysis of the Influence of Macro Economic Factors on the Financial Performance of the Nadira Fashion Company in Randugunting Village, Bergas District, Semarang Regency

This study investigates the relationship between macroeconomic factors and the financial performance of Nadira Fashion Company, located in Randugunting village, Bergas subdistrict, Semarang district. As a fundamental social necessity, clothing is intricately linked to daily life, with fashion trends evolving continually in the modern era. Despite its prominence, the fashion industry faces challenges influenced by macroeconomic conditions that impact company performance and value. Through path analysis utilizing data from banking financial reports and Indonesia's economic growth reports for 2021-2022, this research explores the impact of macroeconomic variables such as economic growth, inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, and government policies on Nadira Fashion Company's financial performance. The findings reveal that while fundamental macroeconomic factors may not significantly influence Nadira Fashion Company's financial performance or value, the company's internal financial metrics, notably profitability measured by return on equity (ROE), demonstrate a substantial positive correlation with company value. These results highlight the importance of considering company-specific factors alongside macroeconomic variables in assessing financial performance and value in the fashion industry. The study provides valuable insights for investors, policymakers, and business managers, aiding in strategic decision-making and risk management. Ultimately, by understanding the interplay between macroeconomic conditions and company dynamics, stakeholders can navigate challenges effectively and capitalize on opportunities for sustainable growth in the fashion sector.

The Influence of School Principal Leadership on Teacher Performance in Private Vocational Schools in Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province

Achieving national education goals heavily relies on the effectiveness of teachers, who serve as the cornerstone of educational excellence. However, the variance in teacher performance remains a challenge, necessitating exploration into influential factors. Among these, principal leadership emerges as a significant determinant. This study endeavors to examine the influence of principal leadership on teacher performance within private vocational schools in Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province. Employing a quantitative correlational approach, data was collected from 115 teachers through questionnaires and document analysis. Utilizing simple linear regression, the analysis revealed a substantial positive correlation between principal leadership and teacher performance, accounting for 31.4% of the variance. The findings underscore the pivotal role of principal leadership in enhancing teacher performance, underscoring the imperative for cultivating effective leadership within educational institutions. These insights hold profound implications for educational policymakers, administrators, and stakeholders, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to bolster leadership capabilities and thereby elevate overall educational outcomes.

L-shaped association of triglyceride glucose index and sensorineural hearing loss: results from a cross-sectional study and Mendelian randomization analysis.

The association between the sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index remains inadequately understood. This investigation seeks to elucidate the connection between the TyG index and SNHL. In this cross-sectional study, we utilized datasets sourced from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). A comprehensive analysis was conducted on 1,851 participants aged 20 to 69, utilizing complete audiometry data from the NHANES database spanning from 2007 to 2018. All enrolled participants had accessible hearing data, and the average thresholds were measured and calculated as both low-frequency pure-tone average and high-frequency pure-tone average. Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) was defined as an average pure tone of 20 dB or higher in at least one better ear. Our analysis involved the application of multivariate linear regression models to examine the linear relationship between the TyG index and SNHL. To delineate any non-linear associations, we utilized fitted smoothing curves and conducted threshold effect analysis. Furthermore, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study, leveraging genetic data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) on circulating lipids, blood glucose, and SNHL. The primary analytical method for the MR study was the application of the inverse-variance-weighted (IVW) approach. In our multivariate linear regression analysis, a substantial positive correlation emerged between the TyG index and SNHL [2.10 (1.80-2.44), p < 0.0001]. Furthermore, using a two-segment linear regression model, we found an L-shaped relationship between TyG index, fasting blood glucose and SNHL with an inflection point of 9.07 and 94 mg/dL, respectively. Specifically, TyG index [3.60, (1.42-9.14)] and blood glucose [1.01, (1.00-1.01)] concentration higher than the threshold values was positively associated with SNHL risk. Genetically determined triglyceride levels demonstrated a causal impact on SNHL (OR = 1.092, p = 8.006 × 10-4). In addition, blood glucose was found to have a protective effect on SNHL (OR = 0.886, p = 1.012 × 10-2). An L-shaped association was identified among the TyG index, fasting blood glucose, and SNHL in the American population. TyG index of more than 9.07 and blood glucose of more than 94 mg/dL were significantly and positively associated with SNHL risk, respectively.
