Subspecialty Selection and Fellowship Training Satisfaction among American and Canadian Geriatric Psychiatry Fellows.

The Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Subspecialty survey aimed to identify key motivating factors associated with choosing geriatric psychiatry as a career, and to assess training satisfaction among geriatric psychiatry fellows/residents in Canada and the United States. American and Canadian geriatric psychiatry program directors were asked to distribute an online survey to their fellows. Descriptive statistics for quantitative items and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed to assess for differences by country of training. Thirty-one geriatric psychiatry fellows completed the survey. The most important motivating factors for pursuing a career in geriatric psychiatry were found to be "working with patients and families", "working in an interdisciplinary environment", and "intellectual stimulation". Fellows' overall training satisfaction was high, with American fellows more satisfied than Canadian residents (p = .047) on average, especially with regard to biomedical aspects of training (p = .01).

Characteristics and academic career outcomes of Godina Fellowship recipients

The American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM) sponsors the Godina Fellowship to expand the careers of talented early career microsurgeons. This study characterizes the scholarly impact and academic career outcomes of Godina Fellows. The ASRM provided a list of Godina Fellows since program inception (1993 – 2020). An Internet based search obtained demographic, academic pedigree, and scholarly impact metrics. Curriculum vitae were reviewed to characterize future career outcomes including academic leadership positions. Of the 28 Godina Fellows, most were men (96%) and from the United States (61%). The average age of selection was 44 ​± ​4 years. Training pedigrees consisted primarily of plastic surgery residency training (93%) followed by orthopedic surgery (3%) and otolaryngology (3%). 32% completed reconstructive microsurgery fellowship training, 25% completed hand fellowship training, and 32% had no sub-specialty fellowship training. A minority of Fellows had a PhD (32%) and Master's Degree (14%). The average h-index was 33 ​± ​11 resulting from 160 ​± ​90 peer-reviewed manuscripts cited 3998 ​± ​2516 times. At the time of selection, Godina fellows had an average of 65 ​± ​42 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Most selected academic careers (79%), including 43% serving as chief of a sub-specialty service line (25%) or chair of a division or department (18%). Godina Fellowship recipients make important contributions to the field of reconstructive microsurgery through research impact and leadership at academic departments.

Practice Trends in Plastic Hand Surgery: An Evaluation of Cases in the TOPS Database

BackgroundPrevious studies have sought to outline the clinical practice of hand surgeons with plastic surgery training backgrounds. Still, minimal data exist characterizing the scope of hand surgery among plastic surgeons, regardless of the subspecialty fellowship training. MethodsAll hand procedures logged in the Tracking Operations and Outcomes for Plastic Surgeons (TOPS) database from 2002 to 2016 were identified by the Common Procedural Technology (CPT) code and/or “upper extremity” anatomic classification. Trends in the total number and types of procedures, facility type, admission type, modes and providers of anesthesia, and patient demographics were reviewed. ResultsA total of 182,137 hand procedures performed on 82,811 patients during the 15-year period were reviewed. Sixty-eight percent of procedures involved soft tissue only, and 22.7% involved only bone and/or joint. The most common procedure categories included the following: wound closure/coverage (15.8%), debridement/drainage (15.3%), nerve (13.2%), tendon (12.9%), and fracture/dislocation (12.9%). Ambulatory and office-based procedures increased over time, along with the use of local anesthetic, as well as a transition from the procedural surgeon providing anesthesia to the use of anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists. In addition, hand procedures have remained a considerable proportion of all logged procedures but have seen a steady decline since 2014. ConclusionPlastic surgeons play an important role in the field of hand surgery, performing a wide variety of procedure types, which has remained stable over time. The trends in facility type and anesthesia characteristics have, however, varied.

Trends in ACGME Accreditation of Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship Training.

Currently, most surgeons pursue subspecialty fellowship training. This study answers the following questions: (1) How does the rate of fellowship training in orthopedic surgery compare with that in other surgical specialties? (2) To what extent did adoption of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accreditation change from 2013 to 2021? Orthopedic subspecialties were analyzed for total number of fellowship programs and positions in the 2013 and 2021 Match. Rates of ACGME accreditation were analyzed via chi-square tests. In 2021, orthopedic surgery had the highest rate of fellowship selection (94%) relative to general surgery (77%), ophthalmology (66%), plastic surgery (63%), and otolaryngology (55%). Across all orthopedic subspecialties, the percentage of ACGME accreditation decreased among fellowship programs (53% in 2013 to 48% in 2021, P=.166) and positions (58% in 2013 to 50% in 2021, P<.001). Orthopedic sports medicine had the highest adoption of ACGME accreditation (100%), followed by hand surgery (99%), musculoskeletal oncology (67%), and pediatric orthopedics (56%). Significant increases in the adoption of ACGME accreditation were noted for orthopedic sports medicine (93% in 2013 to 100% in 2021, P=.016) and hand surgery (81% in 2013 to 99% in 2021, P<.001). There was a significant decrease in ACGME accreditation for adult reconstructive orthopedics (40% in 2013 to 24% in 2021, P=.042), driven by the increase in unaccredited fellowship programs. Accreditation of orthopedic subspecialty fellowship training has decreased with respect to the proportion of accredited training positions. More research is needed to understand the benefits of ACGME accreditation for fellowship training in orthopedic surgery. [Orthopedics. 2024;47(1):57-63.].

This analysis aimed to assess contemporary exposure to FPMRS faculty during residency training in the United States (US). METHODS: US urology residency programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) were identified from the American Urological Association’s (AUA) website and accredited, urology based FPMRS fellowships were identified by the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction. Number of faculty and residency positions per program were identified from AUA program profiles, if last modified within the past year, or manually extracted from program websites. Faculty with subspecialty fellowship training were identified from individual program websites. RESULTS: 9 programs (6%) were excluded from analysis due to incomplete information. Of 139 accredited residency programs assessed, 15 (10.8%) were affiliated with an accredited, urology based FPMRS fellowship. 41 (29.5%) programs had neither a FPMRS fellowship nor any FPMRS certified faculty. 7.4% of faculty at all programs were FPMRS certified. The national faculty to resident ratio was 1:0.8, whereas the national FPMRS faculty to resident ratio was 1:10.8. In comparison, national faculty to resident ratios for other subspecialties were: 1:4.7 for pediatrics, 1:3.6 for oncology, 1:5.9 for minimally invasive surgery/endourology, 1:14.2 for trauma/reconstruction, and 1:11.8 for andrology or male sexual/reproductive health (Table 1). Programs affiliated with a urology based FPMRS fellowship had a FPMRS faculty to resident ratio of 1:5.1 while programs not affiliated with a FPMRS fellowship had a FPMRS faculty to resident ratio of 1:13.4. CONCLUSIONS: 30% of US urology residency programs lack fellowship trained FPMRS faculty. Even when FPMRS faculty are on staff, the field is often underrepresented relative to other urologic subspecialties. Inadequate exposure to FPMRS cases and mentors during training may contribute to the shortage of urology residents who choose to specialize in FPMRS and may exacerbate the failure to meet growing FPMRS patient demands nationwide. The long-term effects of lower numbers of FPMRS faculty need further exploration. A Call to Action to Train Underrepresented Minorities in Surgical Subspecialties and Fellowships.

With each succession along the surgical career pathway, from medical school to faculty, the percentage of those who identify as underrepresented in medicine (URiM) decreases. We sought to evaluate the demographic trend of surgical fellowship applicants, matriculants, and graduates over time. The Electronic Residency Application Service and the Graduate Medical Education Survey for general surgery fellowships in colorectal surgery, surgical oncology, pediatric surgery, thoracic surgery, and vascular surgery were retrospectively analyzed (2005 to 2020). The data were stratified by race and gender, descriptive statistics were performed, and time series were evaluated. Race/ethnicity groups included White, Asian, other, and URiM, which is defined as Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino(a), Alaskan or Hawaiian Native, and Native American. From 2005 to 2020, there were 5,357 Electronic Residency Application Service applicants, 4,559 matriculants, and 4,178 graduates to surgery fellowships. Whites, followed by Asians, represented the highest percentage of applicants (62.7% and 22.3%, respectively), matriculants (65.4% and 23.8% respectively), and graduates (65.4% and 24.0%, respectively). For URiMs, the applicants (13.4%), matriculants (9.1%), and graduates (9.1%) remained significantly low (p < 0.001). When stratified by both race and gender, only 4.6% of the applicants, 2.7% of matriculants, and 2.4% of graduates identified as both URiM and female compared to White female applicants (20.0%), matriculants (17.9%), and graduates (16.5%, p < 0.001). Significant disparities exist for URiMs in general surgery subspecialty fellowships. These results serve as a call to action to re-examine and improve the existing processes to increase the number of URiMs in the surgery subspecialty fellowship training pathway.

Anesthesiology Fellowships in the Military Health System: An Education Analysis of the Supply and Demand.

Evidence indicates that desire for fellowship training is most influenced by personal interest, enhancement of career options, and a specific interest in an academic medicine career. The overall objective of this study is to evaluate anesthesiology fellowship interest and its potential impact on military retention and other outcomes. We hypothesized that current fellowship training accessibility is outpaced by the interest for fellowship training and that additional factors will be associated with the desire for fellowship training. This prospective cross-sectional survey study was approved as Exempt Research by the Brooke Army Medical Center Institutional Review Board in November 2020. Participants were eligible to complete the online voluntary survey if they were active duty anesthesiologists. Anonymous surveys were administered via the Research Electronic Data Capture System from December 2020 to January 2021. Aggregated data were evaluated using univariate statistics, bivariate analyses, and a generalized linear model. Seventy-four percent of general anesthesiologists (those without fellowship training) were interested in pursuing future fellowship training versus 23% of subspecialist anesthesiologists (those currently in fellowship training or have completed fellowship training), odd ratio 9.71 (95% CI, 4.3-21.7). Of subspecialist anesthesiologists, 75% indicated serving in a nongraduate medical education (GME) leadership position (e.g., service/department chief), with 38% serving in a GME leadership position (e.g., program or associate program director). Almost half (46%) of subspecialist anesthesiologists reported being "extremely likely" to serve ≥20 years, versus 28% of general anesthesiologists. There is a high demand among active duty anesthesiologists for fellowship training, which in turn, may improve military retention. The demand for fellowship training is outpaced by what the Services currently offer, including training in Trauma Anesthesiology. Leveraging this interest in subspecialty fellowship training, particularly when the skills align with combat casualty care-related requirements, would greatly benefit the Services.

Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Milestone Scores in Pediatrics: Pilot Study Exploring the Relationship Between Residency and Early Fellowship Scores.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requires Milestone-based assessments of residents and fellows. In pediatrics, 11 subcompetencies are common to both residency and subspecialty fellowship training. It is unknown whether Milestone scores achieved during residency are related to Milestone scores achieved in early fellowship. To assess the relationship between final residency Milestones scores and first-year fellowship Milestones scores in the 11 common subcompetencies (CSCs) across pediatric subspecialties. This was a retrospective single-institution cohort study of pediatric fellows beginning fellowship training between July 2016 and July 2019. De-identified Milestone score sets for final residency scores (R), mid-year first-year fellowship scores (F1), and final first-year fellowship scores (F2) were collected. Spearman correlation and regression analyses were used to assess score relationships. Data for 85 of 98 eligible fellows were collected. Consistently, the F1 scores were lowest, and the R scores were highest. There was a weak positive correlation between the composite R scores and the composite F1 scores. There was a weak positive correlation between residency and fellowship scores for 6 CSCs and no significant correlation for the remaining 5. For the 11 pediatric CSCs, the final residency Milestone scores are consistently higher than and only weakly associated with early fellowship Milestone scores. There may be limitations to the use of residency scores for fellowship program directors in guiding individualized education for early fellows. This study provides groundwork for additional study of Milestone relationships and may help inform the next iteration of pediatric subspecialty Milestones.

Current Trends in Subspecialty Fellowship Training for 1691 Academic Neurological Surgeons

Neurosurgical subspecialty fellowship training has become increasingly popular in recent decades. However, few studies have evaluated recent trends in postgraduate subspecialty education. This study aims to provide a detailed cross-sectional analysis of subspecialty fellowship training completion trends and demographics among U.S. academic neurosurgeons. Academic clinical faculty (M.D. or D.O.) teaching at accredited neurosurgery programs were included. Demographic, career, and fellowship data were collected from departmental physician profiles and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) membership database. Relative citation ratio scores were retrieved using the National Institutes of Health iCite tool. This study included 1691 surgeons (1756 fellowships) from 125 institutions. The majority (79.13%) reported fellowship training. Fellowship completion was more common among recent graduates (residency year >2000), as was training in multiple subspecialties (P < 0.0001). Spine was the most popular subspecialty (16.04%), followed by pediatrics (11.18%), and cerebrovascular (9.46%). The least common were trauma/critical care (2.52%) and peripheral nerve (1.26%). Spine, neuroradiology, and endovascular subspecialties grew in popularity over time. Pediatrics and spine were the most popular for females and males, respectively. Epilepsy and cerebrovascular had the most full professors, while endovascular and spine had the most assistant professors. Stereotactic/functional and epilepsy had the most Ph.Ds. Fellowship training correlated with higher weighted, but not mean, relative citation ratio scores among associate (P= 0.002) and full professors (P= 0.005). There is an emerging proclivity for additional fellowship training among young neurosurgeons, often in multiple subspecialties. These findings are intended to help guide professional decision-making and optimize the delivery of postgraduate education.

Factors Influencing Fellowship Training Among Ophthalmology Residents: A Pilot Study.

There has been an increase in ophthalmology fellowship training programs and applicants. The current ophthalmology literature lacks any recent study examining factors influencing residents' decisions to pursue subspecialty fellowship training. An anonymous, 16-item survey was distributed to residents from a convenience sample of ophthalmology residency programs by their program directors or administrators. A total of 72 residents and 9 interns from 9 distinct programs completed the survey. Eighty-two percent of respondents reported they have either applied or will apply for a fellowship position. Gender and race showed no significant association with fellowship application. Respondents perceived that obtaining a fellowship position would be easier (61%) than obtaining an ophthalmology residency. The desire for additional clinical and surgical training were the 2 primary factors for the pursuit of fellowship training. Half of those pursuing fellowship training (49%) indicated they still desired to practice comprehensive ophthalmology. None of the respondents indicated they wished to practice in a rural area. The data collected in this pilot study elicited factors and variable associations that provide a sound basis for informing revisions and improvements to the data collection tool for a follow-up prospective, longitudinal study involving all ACGME ophthalmology training programs. The results indicate some of the essential factors associated with the pursuit of fellowship training by the current generation of residents. The results also highlight potential trends related to residents' views of their training and desired practice patterns.

Effects of Longitudinal Coaching on Relationships and Feedback Processes in Pediatric Subspecialty Fellowships-An Interpretive Description Study.

Coaching in graduate medical education provides a facilitative approach to feedback as well as opportunities for residents and fellows to engage with feedback and develop individualized improvement goals. To explore the roles and actions of successful coaches in longitudinal coaching relationships and how they enable feedback processes. Using interpretive description methodology, we performed semi-structured interviews with pediatrics fellows (n=11), faculty coaches (n=9), and program directors (n=2) from 2 pediatric subspecialty fellowship training programs at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Both training programs had previously implemented longitudinal clinical coaching programs. Interview questions aimed to explore the roles and impacts of coaches within a longitudinal coaching program. Interviews took place in 2019 and 2020. We identified 4 major actions to the coaching role in longitudinal coaching relationships: (1) establish the coach-fellow relationship; (2) prepare for the coaching conversation; (3) facilitate feedback dialogue; and (4) serve as the go-to person to raise uncomfortable issues. Additionally, nearly all participants expressed support for a longitudinal coaching program to support fellows' growth and development of personalized learning goals. By fulfilling these 4 key aspects to the coaching role, coaches in longitudinal relationships with coachees enable feedback processes.

Instituting a Curriculum for Cardio-Obstetrics Subspecialty Fellowship Training.

Maternal mortality is rising in the United States, and cardiovascular disease is the leading cause. Adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes heighten the risk of cardiovascular complications during pregnancy and the peripartum period and are associated with long-term cardiovascular risks. The field of cardio-obstetrics is a subspecialty within adult cardiology that focuses on the management of women with or at high risk for heart disease who are considering pregnancy or have become pregnant. There is growing recognition of the need for more specialists with dedicated expertise in cardio-obstetrics to improve the cardiovascular care of this high-risk patient population. Current recommendations for cardiovascular fellowship training programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education involve establishing core competency in the knowledge of managing heart disease in pregnancy. However, little granular detail is available of what such training should entail, which can lead to knowledge gaps. Additionally, dedicated advanced subspecialty training in this area is not commonly offered. Multidisciplinary collaborative teams have been shown to improve outcomes in cardiac patients during pregnancy, and cardiovascular fellows-in-training interested in cardio-obstetrics should have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to a pregnancy heart team. In this document, we describe a proposed specialized cardio-obstetrics training pathway that could serve to adequately prepare trainees to competently and comprehensively care for women with cardiovascular disease before, during, and after pregnancy.

Closing the Gap: Training Experiences and Career Outcomes for Underrepresented Minorities in Plastic Surgery.

Background:The present study assesses training characteristics, scholastic achievements, and traditional career accomplishments of ethnically underrepresented in medicine (UIM) plastic and reconstructive surgery (PRS) faculty relative to non-UIM PRS faculty.Method:A cross-sectional analysis of core PRS faculty appointed to accredited United States residency training programs (n = 99) was performed.Results:Of the 949 US PRS faculty, a total of 51 (5.4%) were identified as UIM. Compared with non-UIM faculty, there were few differences when evaluating medical education, residency training, pursuit of advanced degrees, and attainment of subspecialty fellowship training. UIM faculty were more likely than non-UIM faculty to have graduated from a medical school outside the United States (25% versus 13%, P = 0.014). In addition, UIM faculty did not differ from non-UIM counterparts in traditional career accomplishments, including promotion to full professor, obtaining NIH funding, serving as program director, receiving an endowed professorship, appointment to a peer-reviewed editorial board, scholarly contributions (H-index and number of publications), and appointment to chief/chair of their division/department.Conclusions:The historical lack of ethnic diversity that comprise US academic PRS faculty persists. This study reveals that those UIM faculty who are able to obtain faculty appointments are equally successful in achieving scholastic success and traditional career accomplishments as their non-UIM counterparts. As we strive toward increasing representation of UIM physicians in academic plastic surgery, the field will benefit from efforts that promote a pipeline for underrepresented groups who traditionally face barriers to entry.

Subspecialty and Training Preferences for U.S. Neurosurgery Faculty with International Training

Academic neurosurgeons with international medical training play a large role in the U.S. neurosurgical workforce. We aimed to compare U.S.-trained neurosurgeons with internationally trained neurosurgeons to reveal differences in subspecialty preferences and training opportunities abroad. We identified 1671 neurosurgeons from 115 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited neurosurgical residency programs. Data on demographics, institution characteristics, and chosen subspecialty were collected, and faculty were divided based on location of training. Univariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression compared faculty characteristics between training locations. Compared with the U.S. medical school+ U.S. residency group, the international medical graduate+ U.S. residency group was more likely to subspecialize in oncology/skull base and vascular neurosurgery and complete a fellowship in the United States or internationally (P < 0.05). The international medical graduate+ international residency group was more likely to subspecialize in oncology/skull base neurosurgery, more likely to complete an international fellowship, and less likely to practice general neurosurgery (P < 0.05). Neurosurgeons in pediatrics, radiosurgery, and vascular subspecialties were more likely to receive fellowship training in any location (P<0.05). Additionally, functional neurosurgeons were more likely to complete fellowships internationally, spinal neurosurgeons were less likely to pursue international fellowships, and peripheral nerve neurosurgeons were more likely to have dual fellowship training in both the United States and abroad (P < 0.05). International medical training affected subspecialty choice and fellowship training. Internationally trained neurosurgeons more often specialized in oncology and vascular neurosurgery. Functional neurosurgeons were more likely to complete international fellowships, spine neurosurgeons were less likely to complete international fellowships, and peripheral nerve neurosurgeons more often had both U.S. and international fellowships.

Subspecialty Fellowship Training Is Not Associated With Better Outcomes in Fixation of Low-Energy Femoral Neck Fractures-An Analysis of the Fixation Using Alternative Implants for the Treatment of Hip Fractures Database.

To compare risk of reoperation for femoral neck fracture patients undergoing fixation with cancellous screws (CSs) or sliding hip screws based on surgeon fellowship (trauma-fellowship-trained vs. non-trauma-fellowship-trained). Retrospective review of Fixation using Alternative Implants for the Treatment of Hip fractures data. Eighty-one centers across 8 countries. Eight hundred nineteen patients ≥50 years old with low-energy hip fractures requiring surgical fixation. Patients were randomized to CS or sliding hip screw group in the initial dataset. The primary outcome was risk of reoperation. Secondary outcomes included death, serious adverse events, radiographic healing, discharge disposition, and use of ambulatory devices postoperatively. There was no difference in risk of reoperation between the 2 surgeon groups (P > 0.05). Patients treated by orthopaedic trauma surgeons were more likely to be overweight/obese and have major medical comorbidities (P < 0.05). There was a higher risk of serious adverse events, higher likelihood of radiographic healing, and higher odds of discharge to a facility for patients treated by trauma-fellowship-trained surgeons (P < 0.05). Based on these data, risk of reoperation for low-energy femoral neck fracture fixation is equivalent regardless of fellowship training. The higher likelihood of radiographic healing noted in the trauma-trained group does not seem to have a major clinical implication because it did not affect risk of reoperation between the 2 groups. Patient-specific factors present preinjury, such as body habitus and medical comorbidities, may account for the lower odds of discharge to home and higher risk of postoperative medical complications for patients treated by orthopaedic trauma surgeons. Category:Ankle; Arthroscopy; TraumaIntroduction/Purpose:Rotational ankle fractures are common injuries associated with high rates of intra-articular injury. Traditional ankle fracture open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) techniques provide limited capacity for evaluation of intra- articular pathology. Ankle arthroscopy represents a minimally invasive technique to directly visualize the articular cartilage and syndesmosis while aiding with reduction and allowing joint debridement, loose body removal, and treatment of chondral injuries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate temporal trends in concomitant ankle arthroscopy during ankle fracture ORIF surgery amongst early-career orthopaedic surgeons while examining the influence of subspecialty fellowship training on utilization.Methods:The American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) Part II database was queried to identify all candidates performing at least one ankle fracture ORIF (Current Procedural Terminology [CPT] codes 27766, 27769. 27784, 27792, 27814, 27822, 27823, 27829, 27846, 27848) from examination years 2010 to 2019. All ORIF cases were examined to identify those that carried a concomitant CPT code for ankle arthroscopy (CPT codes 29891, 29892, 29894, 29895, 29897, 29898, 29899). Concomitant ankle arthroscopy cases were categorized by candidates self-reported fellowship training status and examination year. Descriptive statistics were performed to report relevant data and linear regression analyses were utilized to assess temporal trends in concomitant ankle arthroscopy with ORIF for ankle fractures. Statistical significance was defined as p<0.05.Results:There were 36,113 cases of ankle fracture ORIF performed of which 388 cases (1.1%) were performed with concomitant ankle arthroscopy. Ankle fracture ORIF was most frequently performed by trauma fellowship trained Part II candidates (n=8,888; 24.6%), followed by sports medicine (n=7,493; 20.8%) and foot and ankle (n=6,563; 18.2%). Arthroscopy was most frequently utilized by foot and ankle fellowship trained surgeon (293/ 6,270 cases; 4.5%) followed by sports medicine (29/7,464 cases; 0.4%) and trauma (4/8,884 cases; 0.1%). With respect to total arthroscopic cases, 75.5% were performed by foot and ankle fellowship trained surgeons while only 1.0% was performed by trauma trained candidates. Ankle arthroscopy utilization significantly increased from 3.65 cases per 1,000 ankle fractures in 2010 to 13.91 cases per 1,000 ankle fractures in 2019 (p=0.010). Specifically, foot and ankle fellowship trained surgeons demonstrated a significant increase in arthroscopy utilization during ankle fracture ORIF over time (p<0.001; OR: 1.101; CI: 1.054-1.151).Conclusion:Ankle arthroscopy utilization during ankle fracture ORIF has increased ten-fold over the past decade. Foot and ankle fellowship trained surgeons contribute most significantly to this trend.
