Pion Production in νμ Charged Current Interactions on 40Ar in Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment

Understanding the pion generation and the consequences of final-state interactions (FSI) are critical for the data processing in all neutrino experiments. The energy utilized in modern neutrino researches of the resonance (RES) generation processes contributes significantly to the pion production. If a pion is absorbed in the nuclear matter after its production, the event may become unrecognizable from a quasielastic (QE) scattering process and act as a background. For oscillation experiments, estimating this background is critical, and it necessitates solid theoretical models for both pion generation at the primary vertex and after FSI. The number of pions created after FSI differs greatly from the number produced at the primary vertex due to FSI. Because neutrino detectors can only detect final-state particles, FSI obscures the proper information about particles created at the primary vertex. A detailed study of FSI is required to overcome this problem, which theoretical models incorporated in Monte Carlo (MC) neutrino event generators can provide. They should give theoretical results concerning the neutrino interactions for various researches, acting as a connection among both theoretical models and experimental data. In this paper, we provide simulated events for the pion creation in νμ charge current (CC) interactions on a 40Ar target in the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) setup for two distinct MC generators: GENIE and NuWro. In comparison to GENIE (v-3.00.06), NuWro (v-19.02.2) is more opaque (less responsive) to the charge exchange and absorption processes; pions are more likely to be absorbed than produced during the intranuclear transport.

Study of the Hyperon-Nucleon Interaction in Exclusive Λ Photoproduction off the Deuteron

The study of final-state interactions in exclusive hyperon photoproduction off the deuteron is a promising approach to extract information about the hyperon-nucleon (YN) interaction. First preliminary results on the azimuthal asymmetry ∑, as well as the polarization transfer coeffcients Ox, Oz, Cx, and Cz for the reaction γd → K+ Λn initiated with linearly and circularly polarized photon beam are presented. The data were taken with the CLAS detector in Hall B of Jefferson Lab during the E06-103 experiment. The large kinematic coverage of the CLAS, combined with the exceptionally high quality of the experimental data, allows identifying and selecting final-state interaction events to extract single- and double-polarization observables and their kinematical dependencies.

ETA-NUCLEUS INTERACTION STUDIES: EXPERIMENTAL EFFORTS

The idea that the η meson could form a bound system with nucleus was put forward long ago by Q.Haider and L.C.Liu and was based on the observation that the low energy η-nucleon interaction was attractive. Since then a number of theoretical calculations have been performed to the predict eta-nucleus bound states. Such bound states-the so called "eta-mesic nuclei" - are predicted to have finite widths and will eventually decay. The experimental confirmation of such a quasi-bound system would be a very useful tool for investigation of interaction between a short lived eta-meson and the nucleus. Since the eta-mesons can not be produced as a secondary beam, the eta-meson particles are available for investigations only as products of certain nuclear reactions where they appear as final state particles. The final state interaction(FSI) effects are the only source of information about the eta-meson interaction with the nucleus. Experiments were performed at the cooler synchrotron accelerator, COSY, Juelich using dedicated detection systems to study the eta-nucleus interaction. The present talk summarizes the status of previous experimental searches. Some preliminary results of the experiments performed at COSY on the eta-nucleus FSI studies are also presented here. The details of the experiments done at COSY, Juelich on eta-mesic nuclei searches along with recent results are reported in an another communication in this proceedings.

Isospin symmetry violation, meson production and η-nucleus interaction studies

We have studied isospin symmetry violation in nuclear reactions by measuring simultaneously the cross-section of the following two reactionsp +d →3H π+ andp +d →3He π0. The experiment was perfomed at the cooler synchrotron accelerator COSY, Julich at several beam energies close to the correspondingη production threshold. We also have ongoing programmes onη-nucleus final-state interaction studies viap+6 Li →7 Be +η reactions, high resolution search for dibaryonic resonances and lambda-proton final state interaction studies. The experimental details and results obtained so far are presented here

A study of final state interactions in the mesonic decay of mass 4 hypernuclei

The results of a search for the presence of sharp resonances in systems of four nucleons produced as a result of various π± mesonic decay modes of the hypernuclei ∧4H and ∧4He are presented.
