Development of Website-Based Interactive E-Modules with Project Based Learning Learning Models to Increase Student Learning Interest in PKWU Subjects in Vocational High Schools

To share knowledge between professors and students, learning media is a common format. It is necessary to modify the learning materials to suit the requirements of different academic fields. There are several issues with this study, including the fact that the only learning resources used in schools are LKS (Student Worksheets) and limited LCD resources, the requirement for practice in the Creative Products and Entrepreneurship (C3) subjects, and the fact that schools use a moving class system, all of which make it necessary for students to access information using more efficient learning resources. The ADDIE-type development model was used to perform this research utilizing the research and development (RnD) methodology. The distribution of learning interest questionnaires among students and the results of student psychomotor skills assessments, which take the form of Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design, both serve to gauge student interest in learning. The findings of the hypothesis test were obtained following the conclusion of the study, and they are as follows. There were variations in students' psychomotor skills before and after utilizing the web-based interactive e-module learning environment with a project-based learning paradigm, as shown by the statistical sig (2 tailed) = 0.00, where 0.00 0.05 (significant threshold). Class XI Multimedia 1 contributed 45.74% of the increase, and class XI Multimedia 2 contributed 46.78%. Implementation of an Industrial Automation Remote Lab (IARL) and validation using a deep learning approach during the COVID pandemic

AbstractThe purpose of this study is to demonstrate a novel remote lab development for improving student psychomotor skills in the Industry 4.0 course. In this work, the vision and Internet of Things‐based lab setup for third‐year undergraduates is proposed as Industrial Automation Remote Lab (IARL). The major motivation of this novel approach is to replicate Industry 4.0 in the laboratory for learning purposes to undergraduate students during pandemic condition. In industries, it is essential to collect all the data from the machines to make optimal use of resources and increase the efficiency of the system. The stored data are interfaced through the user datagram protocol to control the speed of the hydraulic actuator. In the proposed experimental work, a vision sensor‐based anydesk remote control software technique is employed to conduct programmable logic circuit (PLC) experiments. To collect the various output image data sets, numerous PLC experiments were conducted. The collection of images is classified to investigate the student performance using deep learning algorithms like YOLOv4, VGG, and YOLOv5. Based on the simulation and validation results, the IARL‐based approach with YOLOv5 outperforms the other two algorithms with 98% accuracy. Additionally, the validated statistical internal and external results show that the remote laboratory Conceive, Design, Implement, and Operate (CDIO) batch performance is highly improved over virtual laboratory CDIO batch students.

Smartphone addiction and its impact on knowledge, cognitive and psychomotor skills among dental students in India: An observational study.

Addictive behavior toward the use of smartphones has turned out to be a commonly present phenomenon in this digital era. An individual's overindulgence in smartphone devices has turned into an obsessive and compulsive disorder. This addiction has been found to influence the physical, social, and psychological wellbeing of the studied population. This observational study aimed to assess smartphone addiction and its impact on knowledge, cognitive, and psychomotor skills in students pursuing dentistry in India. This prospective and cross-sectional survey-based study comprised 100 dental undergraduate students who were selected by a random sampling technique. The age range of subjects ranged between 18 and 22 years with equal gender distribution (50 each male and female). A prevalidated questionnaire containing 30 items encompassing five variables, that is, applications related to healthcare, entertainment, shopping, communication, and education were used to assess the response. Based on scores, patients were categorized as addicted or with no addiction. For evaluating the knowledge, cognitive, and psychomotor skills of students, theory-based examinations were held in different subjects as per the semester year of selected students while psychomotor skills were assessed by conducting clinical or preclinical examinations conducted by two separate examiners who following mutual agreement were assigned appropriate scores. All scores were categorized into four grades, that is, from grades I to VI. Students with smartphone addiction exhibited lower performance in both theory-based and clinical/preclinical assessment examinations with a majority of them scoring grade III or IV. Smartphone addiction reduces the academic knowledge, cognitive, and psychomotor skills of dental students.

Impacts of Mobile Media on the Ideological and Political Education in Colleges under 5G

With the advancement of digital technology, new tools and methods in education are being developed to improve teaching and learning. The use of technology in educational activities improves the functional, cognitive, and psychomotor skills of students. This study investigated the application of mobile media in the improvement of ideological and political education. The concepts, features, and types of the new media under 5G are defined, and specific forms, opportunities, and challenges of applications of new media in the ideological and political education of colleges are analyzed. The use of new media applications among college students is investigated using the “xuexi.cn” application software. Results show that various mobile applications of new media have the best foreground in the media technologies. Applying new media technologies to ideological and political education is not just an innovation in the method of ideological and political education but also is an extension and supplement to traditional ideological and political classes. Colleges should use new media technologies effectively and scientifically to create a good environment for college students and help them get a better knowledge of ideological and political education.

Impact of the Dental Anatomy Course Trainings on the Psychomotor Skills of Students

Objective: To evaluate the impact of the dental anatomy course on the psychomotor skills of dental students.Material Methods: The study was carried on 121 volunteer students of the dental anatomy course. The 9-hole-peg- test (9-HPT) was used for psychomotor skills assessment at the beginner vs. experienced status (fall vs. spring terms). Test completion time in seconds (sec) was used as primary data. Dominant (DH), and non-dominant hand (N-DH), gender, academic success at the higher education admission test (GPA), and the course’s final assessment scores of training were used as variables. Data were analyzed with IBM SPSS V23. Paired samples t-test, the MANOVA test, and Spearman's rho correlation were used for statistical analyses (p<0.05).Results: The participants' DH scores improved from 20.55±2.48 to. 18.32±1.84 sec (p≤0.001), while N-DH scores improved from 22.78±2.66 to 20.52±2.52 sec (p≤0.001). Female's DH scores were 20.16 ± 2.37 vs. 17.90 ± 1.59 sec (p≤0.001), the N-DH scores were 22.40 ± 2.48 vs. 19.83 ± 1.95 sec (p≤0.001) among the fall and spring terms, respectively; while males’ DH scores were 21.30 ± 2.56 vs. 19.13 ± 2.04 sec (p≤0.001), and the N-DH scores were 23.52 ± 2.86s vs. 21.88 ± 2.95 sec (p=0.003). Females’ DH scores were better than males for fall (p=016) and spring (p≤0.001) terms, and N-DH scores were better for fall (p=027) and spring (p≤0.001) terms. Neither GPA nor 9-HPT scores affected the course’s end-of-term practical exam notes.Conclusion: The dental anatomy course significantly contributes to the psychomotor proficiency development of the students.

Artificial intelligence in dance education: Dance for students with special educational needs

Participation in inclusive dance can have positive results for different groups of people with special needs, including those with mobility impairments. The purpose of study is to analyze the level of physical development and psychomotor skills of students with developmental disorders of the musculoskeletal system at different stages of inclusive dance classes. A model of a teacher using a Bayesian network has been developed to assess the level of physical fitness at different stages of training. The study involved 30 participants. There were two groups of students aged 17–19. Group 1included students engaged in inclusive dance classes for six months while Group 2 consisted of students having attended 2–3 classes before the study. The students were interviewed. In terms of the level of physical fitness, significant differences were revealed between Group 1 and Group 2 in favor of Group 1. Regular inclusive dance classes help to improve students' physical fitness and, consequently, their overall coordination of movements. Improvement in overall physical health should be explored more deeply in further research.

The effect of using standardized patients in the Simulated Hospital Environment on first-year nursing students psychomotor skills learning

BackgroundThe aim of this study was to determine the effect of using standardized patients in the Simulated Hospital Environment on first-year nursing students' psychomotor skills. MethodsThis semi-experimental study was carried out in the one-group pretest-posttest design. Students performed the psychomotor skills in the Non-Simulated Clinical Skill Laboratory and Simulated Hospital Environment. The skill performances of the students were evaluated with the Objective Structured Clinical Assessment form. At the same time, students' views on both environments were received. ResultsStudents' mean Objective Structured Clinical Assessment score in the Simulated Hospital Environment (69.42 ± 10.94) was significantly higher than their mean score in the Non-Simulated Clinical Skill Laboratory (57.07 ± 10.05) (p < 0.05). The differences in scores were particularly significant in the stages of meeting the patient, performing the procedure in accordance with the steps and ending the procedure. The majority of the students stated that they could not do some applications in the Non-Simulated Clinical Skill Laboratory in a similar way to the hospital clinic (85.9%), and they felt like they were in a real hospital clinic in the Simulated Hospital Environment (100%). ConclusionsThe results showed that students developed psychomotor skills more fully in a learning environment designed in a similar way to a real hospital clinic setting.

The Implementation of Experiment Method to Enhance Psychomotor Skill and Learning Result in Light Material

The purpose of this study are: (1) to know the psychomotor skills of students, (2) to know the completeness of students' cognitive learning outcomes. This research is a pre-experimental research using one-shot case study design. The population of this research is the entire class VIII of second semester of MTs Negeri 2 Palangka Raya of academic year 2017/2018.The sample of the study is class VIII-H with the number of students 38 people. The results of the data analysis showed that the psychomotor skills tests carried out during the learning with the experimental method showed that the average psychomotor skills of the groups in all the learning groups from 5 groups had 1 group that had the highest score was group III with a score of (86.25) in very good categories and group I which gets the lowest score is (72.2) in good categories and per aspect of learning I aspects number 1 and 10 with the value (90) of the category being the highest value aspect and in Meeting II aspect number 1 with the value (90) the good category becomes the highest value aspect. Completeness of individual cognitive learning results obtained from 38 students who took the test, 24 students complete learning and 14 students are not complete. In classical, learning is said not complete because only 63,16% of students who completed the completion of the classical completeness standard set is ?75%. Completed total learning objectives (TPK) that complete as many as 17 TPK from 28 TPK with the percentage of TPK which complete 60,71%.

Implementation of Project-Based Learning Models in 2D and 3D Animation Techniques to Improve Psychomotor Skills and Student Creativity of Class XI Multimedia SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta

&lt;p&gt;The purpose of this study is to (1) Improve psychomotor skills of students in creating 2D animation with a project-based learning model; (2) Know the increase in creativity of students of class XI MM 2 of SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta by implementing a project-based learning model on 2D and 3D animation engineering subjects. This research is a Classroom Action Research conducted in 2 cycles. Subjects in this study were students of class XI MM 2 of SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta, amounting to 36 people. Data collection techniques used were observation, document review, practice tests, and portfolio assessments. The data validity test technique used is triangulation and the data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics. The results of the study stated that after the project-based learning model was applied, (1) the percentage of completeness of the results of the psychomotor skills test had increased by 41.67% in the pre-action, 63.89% in the first cycle, and 80.56% in the second cycle; (2) the creativity of students in terms of fluency, flexibility, authenticity, and elaboration has increased. Based on observations, students look more active and responsible in completing tasks. The conclusion of this study is the application of Project Based Learning models in 2D and 3D Animation subjects can improve psychomotor skills and creativity of students of Class XI MM 2 of SMK Negeri 3 Surakarta in 2018/2019 Academic Year.&lt;/p&gt;

Computer assisted learning vs. conventional teaching in experimental Pharmacology: perception of second year medical students

Background: The main pool of pharmacology practical teaching is formed by the use and demonstration of animal experiments. Animals have been used to demonstrate the effect of various drugs in experimental pharmacology classes, in the lab. The practical sessions in pharmacology training involving animal experiments are still taught by traditional teaching methods. Rapid development of information technology has led to newer trends in teaching and learning using Computer Assisted Learning (CAL). Keeping it in mind we decided to undertake this study to assess the perception of CAL in 2nd year MBBS students over conventional teaching in experimental pharmacology.Methods: This was an observational, questionnaire-based study. A total of hundred undergraduate MBBS (2nd year) students participated. Participants were first demonstrated an animal experiment by conventional teaching method followed by the same animal experiment demonstration on CAL. Students’ feedback was recorded on a questionnaire and analyzed.Results: The mean age of the participants was 19.88±1.28 years. The study overall observed that 62% preferred CAL to conventional (38%). Majority of the participants’ thought CAL (63%) helps to understand better over conventional (28%) and that CAL (63%) is time independent over conventional (28%). More than 85% felt that CAL was more explanatory and provided a better learning experience.Conclusions: Students preferred CAL to conventional teaching, in experimental pharmacology. It also provided insight on perception and experience of students towards CAL for experimental pharmacology. However, further studies are warranted to assess the knowledge, cognitive and psychomotor skills of students.

The Effects of Simulation on Nursing Students Psychomotor Skills

Background: Simulation-based education has positive contributions in nursing education. Using different methods of simulation has effectiveness in clinical education and also effectiveness of simulation was stated verbally by the students and the researchers. Objective: The aim of this research was to examine the effect of simulation training on psychomotor skills of nursing students. Design: The research sample was determined by a simple random sampling. Setting: Research was carried out with students of a Nursing School in Turkey, between February and June 2016. Participants: Participants of the research 82 first-grade students of this research, 65 (81.7 %) of them were female and 15 (18.3 %) were male. Methods: Assessment was performed with a single-blind method using with the “Skills Checklists” that include the steps of “Performing Nasotracheal Aspiration”, “Measuring Blood Pressure”, “Measuring Pulse and Respiration Rate” and “Administration of Intramuscular Injection”. Results: According to findings of the research, there was a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups mean total score of skills and there was a significant relationship between total score skills and the having simulation training of students. Conclusion: As a result of the research, the students nursing skills with simulation education have higher psychomotor skill scores. In addition to the traditional education methods, use of simulation tools is thought to boost skill levels.

Using Standardized Patients in Nursing Education: Effects on Students' Psychomotor Skill Development.

The present study used a quasi-experimental design to examine the effects of using standardized patients for the psychomotor skills development of nursing students. The performance of the experimental group in blood pressure measurement was significantly higher than that of the control group; however, there was no significant difference between the groups with regard to their administration of subcutaneous injections. The results indicated that standardized patients can be integrated into nursing education for developing psychomotor skills of students.

Determining the effect of periodic training on the basic psychomotor skills of nursing students

Basic psychomotor skill training starts in the first year in nursing education. The psychomotor skills taught in the first year of nursing training constitute a foundation for all professional practices. Conducting periodic training for skills with which students are deficient can support mastery learning. The study was conducted as an interventional study for determining the effect of periodic training on the basic psychomotor skills learned in the Fundamentals of Nursing course. The sample consisted of 70 students attending the Fundamentals of Nursing course at nursing students in a university in Ankara, over 4 years between 2010 and 2013. The study was conducted as an interventional study for a period of 4 years. The data were collected through a questionnaire that was applied 4 times at the end of each academic year. According to the results of the forms evaluated at the end of each year, 4 additional laboratory activities were conducted addressing the deficient psychomotor skills of students at the beginning of the new academic semester in the 2nd and 3rd years. In the 4th-year clinic practice, courses were arranged to practice still deficient psychomotor skills. It was determined that students practiced nearly all of the basic psychomotor skills during clinical practice and that the practices with which they felt themselves to be inadequate gradually decreased following periodic training; this decrease was significant (p<0.05). While the number of students who could practice was low at the first measurement, following 3 years of periodic training, these skills increased significantly (p<0.05). This study determined that periodic training addressing the deficient psychomotor skills of nursing students was effective. We recommend that students' psychomotor skills be evaluated periodically and repetitive training based on the results of this evaluation be provided throughout the undergraduate nursing education process.

The use of ubiquitous sensor technology in evaluating student thought process during practical operations for improving student technical and creative skills

AbstractThis study investigated a Ubiquitous Sensor System (USS) that we developed to assess student thought process during practical lessons on a real‐time basis and to provide students with a reflective learning environment. Behavioral curves and data obtained by the USS would help students understand where they had made mistakes during practical lessons and the exact times when incorrect process parameters were observed. This research was conducted during a course on manufacturing. The results indicated that the proposed USS was effective in improving student analysis and evaluation skills in manufacturing thinking, as well as the three psychomotor skills of guided response, mechanism and complex overt response. Student psychomotor skills also gained an overall improvement. Results also showed that improvements in student thought process also helped in the learning of psychomotor skills and that the USS helped improve the clarity of student thought process during practical operations. The improved clarity of thought allowed students to understand the reasons behind their thought process for them to make the necessary logical deductions. Through repeated reflection and practice, students would then be able to create works with personal creative elements.

Developing the clinical psychomotor skills of musculoskeletal sonography using a multimedia DVD: A pilot study

&lt;span&gt;Sonographers are medical or non-medical health professionals in the radiology field who skilfully manipulate ultrasound equipment to produce images that are used to diagnose medical conditions and abnormalities. This technique is also becoming popular amongst the wider community in other medical specialities and allied health professionals, due to decreasing costs and automation. This paper reports the findings of a pilot trial on the use of a specifically designed audiovisual tool to teach medical sonography students psychomotor skills to perform sonography of specific musculoskeletal structures of the ankle. A competency testing instrument was developed using the Dawson's psychomotor categories as a framework, which identified positive change in competency in several scanned structures following this intervention. Integrating a conceptual learning framework for psychomotor skills could be useful to guide the development of sonography training programs and assist educators to structure incremental teaching and assessment activities, enabling a more consistent approach to developing psychomotor skills. Alterations in instructional design using this technology may relieve some of the burden of clinical teaching in the workplace.&lt;/span&gt;

Traditionally teaching nursing students psychomotor skills took place in a laboratory setting; however, recent developments in computer technology have revolutionised how educators can transfer knowledge. To meet the need for an efficient and interactive learning experience a software product was required to educate nursing students about health assessment techniques. This paper presents how existing ‘old technology’ of a video was given new life by embracing new technology, resulting in development of an interactive CD-ROM with supporting WebCT. This innovation reflects a more flexible approach to learning as it is dynamic, portable, self-paced and more convenient for adult learners especially those in remote areas.

A comprehensive approach to clinical evaluation.

Historically, the summative clinical evaluation of nursing students has been problematic. Tools of measurement for clinical performance have been subjective and, at times, biased at several levels. With these thoughts and past experiences in mind, the faculty in an associate degree nursing program developed a comprehensive approach to summative clinical evaluation. The process began with the development and implementation of a Clinical Performance Manual (CPM) describing five components of the summative evaluation process. These included the: ability to consistently exhibit professional behaviors; random skills performance examination; plan of care examination; critical situations examination; and required course assignments. These components were developed with the intent of objectifying the measurement of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills of students. After 1 year of implementing this process with 250 students, feedback received from faculty and students was reviewed and discussed. Reliability and validity studies have been conducted. A decision was made to continue with this new method of evaluation. Recommendations include piloting and implementing the process in others schools and programs.
