Attitude and Challenges in Learning Mathematics in the Modern Word (MMW): Basis for Intervention Program

Difficulty in learning mathematics is a common and significant problem throughout the school years. It was identified that only 19% of Filipino students met the Low benchmark, meaning they had “some basic mathematical knowledge,” while 81% did not reach this level. Filipino students also lagged behind other countries in the international assessment for mathematics as mentioned in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study 2019 (TIMSS).To address this; a researcher conducted a study to explore students’ attitudes and challenges in learning Mathematics in the Modern World (MMW). The data gathered were used in formulating intervention programs. The study utilized the descriptive method of research and employed a survey questionnaire as the main data-gathering instrument. It involved the participation of all college students from the University of Batangas who were taking Mathematics in the Modern World (MMW) during the school year 2022-2023 using a purposive sampling technique. Furthermore, the responses of the respondents were computed using frequency count, percentage, weighted mean, ranking, and chi-square as the main statistical treatments of data. Ethical guidelines were highly considered to maintain the confidentiality of the study. Key findings include that the majority of the students are 19-21 years old, male, and enrolled in Criminology courses. Students strongly agreed and exhibited a positive attitude toward wanting to develop their mathematical skills. It was observed that there is a positive and moderate correlation between the attitude and the challenges encountered by the students in learning Mathematics in the Modern World (MMW). The main challenge identified is the difficulty in remembering math facts, concepts, rules, formulas, sequences, and procedures. The researcher proposed different intervention programs to address the challenges encountered by students in learning Mathematics in the Modern World (MMW).

This article describes the skills of students in learning mathematics by using media and audio in madrasah/primary schools in Ibtidaiyah. This study aims to determine the use of these communication tools on students' interest in learning mathematics. This research is qualitative research using the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) method. Data sources are 10 journal articles indexed by Google Scholar. Data analysis was carried out with the stages of data collection, data reduction, verification, and conclusion drawing. This research was conducted in elementary schools to see the use of audio and digital media in learning mathematics. The results of this study show that audio and video media can increase students' interest in learning mathematics. Students learn math through these two methods compared to traditional teaching methods. The use of audio and digital media can increase students' participation in the learning process. In addition, students can better understand difficult and complex mathematical concepts because of the access provided by both media. The results provide important implications for curriculum development at the Primary level and recommend the inclusion of audio and digital media in mathematics education. This research makes an important contribution to improving the quality of mathematics teaching and students' interest in the course. This research is also expected to provide a reference for developing new interactive teaching methods at the elementary school level.

Desain Pembelajaran Bangun Ruang Sisi Lengkung Bola Menggunakan PMRI Berbantuan Adobe Animate

Understanding the concept of geometric figures on the curved side of a sphere is an important subject for students in learning mathematics. However, students had difficulties when they were learning about geometric shapes on the curved side of a sphere. This research aimed to createta learning pathway which supports students in understanding the concept of the curved side of a ball through applying the context of Mitoni tradition inlclass IX of junior high school. The research subjects involved students at SMP N 39 Semarang, consisting of 33 students. The method applied was a validation research type design, where consists of three stages; they are initial design, design experiments (pilot experiments and teaching experiments), and retrospective analysis. The arrangement of learning activities was designed and developed based on the PMRI approach with the help of Adobe Animate. The results of this research were three activities involving: observing videos of the Mitoni tradition to identify the characteristics of the sphere; determine the formula for the surface area of a sphere; determine the ball volume formula; as well as solving contextual problems relatedtto sphere. Through the activities carried out, students can increase their understanding oftthe concept of geometric shapes on the curved side of a sphere in class IX of SMP N 39 Semarang. Apart from that, it can increase local cultural alternatives which can be used as context intthe mathematics learning process,respecially in material on the curved side of a sphere.

Meta Analysis Of The PMRI (Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education) Approach To Improving Primary Students Mathematics Learning Outcomes

Research objectives This is For analyze PMRI approach (Mathematics Education Realistic Indonesia) towards results Study students at school base. PMRI's approach is a mathematization - oriented approach experience everyday and also apply mathematics in life daily . Study This use method meta- analysis research. Data analysis was carried out with SPSS 22.00 for windows help . Result of data analysis that has been done done done show that PMRI approach ( Mathematics Education Realistic Indonesia) is influential big to results Study students , the results of the independent samples test show that mark significance (2-tailed) 0.000 <0.05, the result of the effect size calculation is -2.65773, so it can be concluded that the influence of the PMRI (Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education) approach is significantly more effective compared to conventional learning in terms of elementary school student learning outcomes. The results of data analysis show a significant difference between learning outcomes in the experimental class and the control class with a Sig (2-tailed) result of 0.000 and a small effect size. The results of data analysis can then be said that there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes of the experimental and control groups, however the treatment in this study showed a small effect on learning.

Means End Analysis (MEA): A Learning Model to Improve Mathematics Cognitive Learning Outcomes in the Post-Pandemic COVID-19

This research is motivated by the low cognitive learning outcomes of students in solving math problems. Alternative learning to the low cognitive learning outcomes of students is to apply the Means-End Analysis learning model. This model is designed using a quasi-experimental method. This study aims to determine the difference in the average cognitive learning outcomes of class VI students in learning mathematics using the Means-End Analysis model with conventional learning using the Direct Instruction model. The population of this research is all sixth-grade students of SDN 267 Bandung for the academic year 2021/2022. The samples taken were class VI A, and class VI B using a purpose sampling technique. Data collection techniques used are tests and observations. The data analysis technique used an independent t-test with a significance level of 5%. The results obtained that: there is a difference in the average cognitive learning outcomes of students between those taught with the Means End Analysis learning model and conventional learning using the Direct Instruction model. So that the Means-End Analysis model can be used as a learning model that can improve cognitive mathematics learning outcomes in the post-pandemic COVID-19. A Psychometric Validation of the Sociomathematical Norm Scale for Senior High School Students in Mathematics Learning

<p style="text-align: justify;">Students in mathematics classes do not understand the importance of sociomathematical norms in learning mathematics. This causes sociomathematical norms not to be teachers' focus when learning mathematics. Besides, there is no standardized instrument for assessing this norm, so developing this instrument is necessary to measure socio-mathematical norms in learning mathematics. This study aims to create and verify the psychometric validity of the sociomathematical norm scale. This research used a survey method with 505 senior high school students from Jakarta and West Java as respondents. The results showed that 25 items had convergent validity, with a loading factor value of > 0.700, meaning they could be declared valid. Concurrent validity indicates that each sociomathematical norms indicator is valid as a whole. Discriminant validity shows that the average variance extracted value on the diagonal is higher than the other values, so each item is declared valid. It was concluded that each item of the sociomathematical norms instrument has accuracy in its measurement function. The reliability test shows that each sociomathematical norms item is declared reliable. The reliability value of the sociomathematical norm item is .99, and the person's reliability is .86. Thus, the instruments developed can measure sociomathematical norms in learning mathematics.</p>

UPAYA MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN PEMECAHAN MASALAH DAN KEPERCAYAAN DIRI PESERTA DIDIK MELALUI MODEL DISCOVERY LEARNING

This research was motivated by the low mathematical problem solving abilities and self-confidence of students in learning mathematics in Class VII A MTs Al-Falah Jatinangor. One alternative solution is to apply the Discovery Learning learning model. The purpose of this research is to determine the increase in students' mathematical problem solving abilities after using the Discovery Learning learning model and to determine the increase in students' self-confidence after using the Discovery Learning learning model. The method used is the classroom action research method (PTK), which is carried out in 2 cycles consisting of planning, action implementation, observation and reflection. The data taken is qualitative data, namely data from teacher observations, self-confidence questionnaires and students' daily journals. As well as quantitative data, namely learning outcome data obtained from the results of mathematical problem solving ability tests. The data obtained was analyzed using percentages. From the results of data analysis, it was concluded that students' mathematical problem solving abilities and self-confidence increased after learning using the Discovery Learning model. PENGUKURAN MINAT BELAJAR SISWA KELAS XI SMA DALAM PROSES PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA

This study aims to determine how well the level of interest in mathematical learning of students in mathematics subjects in terms of indicators of learning interest. The subjects in this study were one of class XI at SMA Negeri 6 Karawang for the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 29 students. This research was conducted using a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection was obtained with a non-test instrument in the form of a mathematical learning interest questionnaire consisting of 22 statements and adjusted based on indicators of learning interest. After processing data using the Likert scale, the happy indicator has a percentage of 62% (good), the student interest indicator is at 70% (good), the indicator of student attention to the criteria is quite good at 54%, and the student engagement indicator has good criteria with a percentage of 64%. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the level of interest in learning students in mathematics learning has a good level overall, in terms of indicators of learning interest, namely feelings of pleasure, student interest, student attention, and student involvement.

ANALISIS MOTIVASI BELAJAR SISWA SMP PADA PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA DI KELAS VIII

This research was motivated by low motivation to learn in mathematics lessons. This study aims to determine the motivation to learn in mathematics learning of junior high school students. The population in this study is Istanbul 8th grade students at SMPIT Abdan Syakuro Lampu Iman for the 2023/2024 school year. The sample in this study amounted to 29 students. The method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection using non-test instruments in the form of questionnaires. There are 8 indicators in the questionnaire, namely 1) perseverance in learning, 2) tenacity in facing difficulties, 3) motivation in the lesson, 4) independence in learning, 5) quickly bored on routine tasks, 6) can maintain his opinion, 7) not easily let go of what he believes, 8) likes to find and solve problems. The results of this study that the learning motivation of SMPIT Abdan Syakuro students is good. In reality the motivation of students learning is quite good, but the lack of encouragement from the environment to learn.

Augmented reality in influencing interest in learning mathematics

Learning using technology can grow students' interest, one of which is augmented reality, which can attract students' interest in learning mathematics. This research explores AR forms and responses to students' interest in learning mathematics after using AR. The research method used is a systematic literature review. For this research, a synthesis of relevant studies was created through the PoP (Publish or Perish) application by searching for articles using Google Scholar. Based on the selection results obtained, 740 articles. Ten duplicate articles were found, 143 articles that did not contain any keywords, 561 articles that did not meet the researcher's criteria, and seven articles that did not answer the researcher's question, resulting in 19 basic studies published between 2013 and 2023. The research results provide information that there are forms of AR that can influence interest. Students learn mathematics, namely AR learning media in AR playing cards, 3-dimensional AR, AR text-to-speech applications, AR building space, learning media with magic books, AR and Flash Card applications, and other Android-based AR applications. Augmented Reality (AR) has a very positive impact on students learning mathematics. Thus, educators may consider additional training in the use of AR technology and develop learning strategies that include elements of AR to support the achievement of student mathematical learning objectives effectively.

Exploring the Teacher's Creative Process Based on Amabile's Creativity Componential Theory: A Case Study During COVID-19 in Indonesia

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted students’ mathematics learning activities by requiring learning from home. Therefore, teachers are expected to be innovative and creative to meet students' learning needs. This study aimed to explore the creativity of teachers and students based on Amabile's creativity componential theory in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The case study approach used in this study involved a 29-year-old teacher and three 10-year-old students. The teacher was selected for his professional achievements as a teacher in South Sulawesi. The data were analyzed through the following stages: (1) Analyze; (2) Perform data reduction (3) Compile data (4) Check data validity, (5) Interpret data/draw conclusions. The results showed that learning by involving projects can increase the creativity of teachers and students in learning mathematics during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research conclusion shows that the creativity that occurs in teachers fulfills the components of Amabile theory. Virtual learning involving projects carried out in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic can increase the creativity of teachers and students.

Improving Junior High School Student’s Mathematical Understanding Ability using Discovery Learning Model on Relation and Function Material

The ability of students' mathematical understanding is one of the aspects needed by students in learning mathematics. With the ability to understand mathematics will make it easier for students to solve problems because students will be able to relate and solve these problems with the concepts they have understood. This study aims to see the improvement of the mathematical understanding ability of junior high school students using a discovery learning model on Relation and Function material. The type of this research is Classroom Action Research with the research sample being all grade VIII students in one of the junior high schools in West Bandung. This study consists of 2 cycles where each cycle consists of planning, action and implementation, observation and reflection stages, with before and after the study given 2 test instrument in the form of a description. In each cycle there is an activity observation sheet. Meanwhile, to analyze the data, it is seen from the test results provided, then all data and data results are processed using SPSS software. The results of this study showed that there was an increase in the completeness of learning scenarios for teachers by 92.31% and for students by 81.25%. In addition, the results of filling out the tests given each cycle showed good results with the number of students who scored above the minimum completeness criteria in cycle I by 73.08% and cycle II by 81.88%, meaning an increase of 8.8%. Based on this, it is expected that educators can apply the Discovery Learning Model with good planning and implementation so that student learning outcomes on relation and function material can increase.

Evaluation of the Educaplus website and its influence on education

This study aimed to evaluate and determine if the Educaplus website contributes to the learning of mathematics in primary school students. The methodology consisted of a pretest to know the initial status of the teachers who made up the study sample and their skills and perceptions about the use of digital tools in mathematics. Then, training in Educaplus was applied as a complementary tool for mathematics training, and then a final evaluation to determine the teachers' receptivity to the incorporation of new methodologies in teaching. The research design allowed us to observe that the teachers' initial lack of knowledge prevented them from having a clear vision of the use of computer applications for mathematics. However, the training managed to change the panorama in the teaching community and improve perceptions.

Geogebra Software as A Guideline for Meaningful Learning of Mathematical Content for Ninth- Grade Students in Ecuador – A Secondary Publication

The introduction of the GeoGebra software led to a considerable increase in the interactivity of the didactic sequence of learning mathematical contents, a scenario that highlighted the inclusion of the meaningful learning model as the basis of pedagogical proposals. In this sense, the objective of this article was to determine the relationship of the GeoGebra software in the learning of mathematics in ninth-grade students in the General Education (GE) of the Yaruquí Public Educational Unit. Relational research with a non-experimental and transversal design was carried out to measure the variables in 44 ninth-grade students through the collection of data using valid and reliable instruments. The results indicated that a large number of students deemed the interface and interactivity of the GeoGebra software as “appropriate” (> 60%) and showed high levels of information acquisition and incorporation of new knowledge (68.2%). The correlational analysis revealed positive directions and moderate levels between the dimensions of the two variables (0.430 < Rho < 0.515); overall, a direct and moderate correlation was observed between GeoGebra software and mathematical learning (Rho = 0.549, R2 = 0.301). Finally, it was concluded that higher scores in the dimensions of GeoGebra software would manifest in high scores for meaningful learning of mathematical content.

Do teachers’ beliefs about the nature and learning of mathematics affect students’ motivation and enjoyment of mathematics? Examining differences between boys and girls across six countries

Mathematics teachers’ beliefs are central to mathematics teaching and student learning. Because different aspects of motivation and affect—particularly enjoyment—primarily develop within the classroom context, examining how different teachers’ beliefs may affect student outcomes in mathematics is imperative. The current study examines teachers’ beliefs about the nature and learning of mathematics in connection to students’ motivation (i.e. intrinsic value, utility value and perceived competence) and enjoyment of mathematics across different settings by considering students’ mathematics achievement, gender and classroom composition (i.e. socioeconomic and behavioural). Data were collected from 3rd- and 4th-grade mathematics teachers (N = 686) and their students (N = 11,782) in six countries (i.e. Norway, Finland, Sweden, Portugal, Estonia and Serbia). A two-level structural equation modelling technique (TSEM) (i.e. student level and classroom level) with random slopes was employed to address our research questions. The results indicate that students’ intrinsic value and perceived competence positively relate to their enjoyment of mathematics in all six countries. Teachers’ beliefs about the nature and learning of mathematics moderate the within-classroom relationship between boys and girls and the motivation and enjoyment of learning mathematics in Portugal and Norway. Unlike boys, girls consistently perceive themselves as less competent in mastering mathematics, even in primary school. Classroom socioeconomic composition had a more pronounced influence on teachers’ beliefs in Sweden, Norway and Serbia. In relation to teachers’ beliefs, classroom behavioural composition was relevant in Estonia and Sweden. In Finland and Norway, classroom composition was essential to boys’ and girls’ differential motivation and enjoyment of mathematics learning.

Coping with math anxiety and lack of confidence through AI-assisted Learning

Artificial intelligence (AI) in education transforms the instructional processes and learning competence of students. AI can adapt to the individual learning needs of students. By analyzing students’ progress, performance, and preferences, AI systems can deliver tailored content, recommend additional resources, and provide feedback. The purpose of this study was to develop initial understanding on how AI models help students cope with math anxiety and lack of confidence in engaging with mathematics learning. This exploratory research established the connections between what students feel when using AI and how it benefits them. College students (n = 20) enrolled in different math-related programs (i.e., engineering, statistics/mathematics, computer science, education) were purposively sampled for a one-on-one interview. Thematic analysis indicated that students are now turning to AI models as a coping mechanism to alleviate math anxiety and boost their self-assurance. These AI models function as “mentors” and “math companions” that offer step-by-step explanations and personalized support. Their adaptability and personalized approach make mathematics more accessible to students, with the potential to reduce anxiety and enhance the overall learning experience. Moreover, the use of AI models encourages a sense of independence, motivating students to actively engage in self-guided learning. The findings open new questions about using AI models in improving the self-efficacy and confidence of students in mathematics learning. There is also an opportunity to build an AI-assisted learning with a focus on psychological interventions and behavioral interconnections mediating students’ academic performance.

Penerapan Strategi Kontekstual Media Papan Bilangan dalam Pembelajaran Matematika Siswa Kelas 1 Sekolah Dasar

Contextual strategies are suitable approaches for lower grade students. The purpose of this study was carried out to facilitate students in learning mathematics using contextual learning. The method used in this study is qualitative with a library research study approach, data collection techniques in this study include observation, and documentation. While the data analysis used is descriptive analysis. From the results of data analysis, it shows that contextual strategies and pajum media have a very close relationship in mathematics learning, especially for grade 1 elementary school children. Contextual strategies themselves must have real experience in implementing them. Therefore, when implementing it in grade 1 elementary school in mathematics learning, there must be a learning medium. Because at the age of 1st grade elementary school, it leads to Jean Piaget's theory in the concrete operational stage. Which is where this stage is a major turning point.

Learning mathematics and its relevance through a digital storytelling assessment task at university

Storytelling is a valuable form of human expression that allows audience members to connect their own experiences with the narrative. As a pedagogical tool, storytelling has been explored mainly in primary school education but rarely in higher education. However, its potential for assisting students in learning mathematics and the societal benefits that its application can bring has been largely overlooked. Using Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) to analyse university students’ experiences of a digital storytelling assessment task, we explore students’ perception of their learning and the relevance they ascribed to mathematics. We conclude that it is vital that students can reconcile why mathematics is important for society and how that affects them in their personal lives. We should also make sure that we equip students with valuable skills, such as how to work effectively in a group, which can give them more agency in shaping their learning experience.

Effect of Student Perception on Teaching and Learning Mathematics in Secondary Schools in El’arish in North Sinai Governorate in Egypt

Purpose: The aim of this paper was to investigate the effect of students ‘perception on teaching and learning Mathematics students in public Schools in El’arish in North Sinai Governorate in Egypt. The hypothesis of the study was formulated and tested to guide the study.
 Methodology: The survey research design type was adopted and the targeted population of one hundred and ninety-nine (119) respondents composed by 5 principals, 16 mathematic teachers and 98 students from senior secondary schools, were sampled by using stratified sampling and sample random sampling techniques. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis through the statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 21. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression.
 Findings: The results of the findings indicated that the students’ perception was more correlated with teaching and learning Mathematics (r = 0.822; p= 0.000). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that students ‘perception contributed to 70.2% of variation on the performance, hence plays a vital role in teaching and learning Mathematics students in secondary schools in El Arish in North Sinai Governorate in Egypt. Additionally, the relationship between perception and students Mathematics performance in the study was very strong.
 Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study recommended that Mathematics teacher should be diverse in their use of methodology which can as well help their student in their own area of learning mathematics.
