Exploring disruption through the lens of an adapted Five Senses Framework

This quasi-experimental research design surveyed 688 students through a self-administered online survey to specifically explore relations between student self-assessed capabilities (Lizzio Five Senses, 2006), overall program satisfaction, withdrawal behaviours, demographics and year of study in their university courses during an emergency COVID-19 lockdown experience. Importantly, this research offers a more nuanced view of the Five Senses and confirms their importance as a university strategy for student success. These findings offer further granularity into the complex set of relations that impact decisions around satisfaction, persistence, and capability in higher education and support previous research by Lizzio and Wilson (2008) indicating students’ perceptions of purpose is the strongest predictor of satisfaction, lower anxiety and lower course withdrawal. Ultimately, the paper suggests as higher education looks towards future possible disruptions due to climate, health or political realities, equipping and fostering a strong sense of purpose, connectedness, and resourcefulness as well as sense of capability and academic culture will buffer and support students to persevere. In addition, this research suggests that those students who may have weak associations with these senses merit additional attention.

Switching intention, WOM and quality of public transport services: A case of the Kuala Lumpur conurbation

Despite spending billions of dollars on urban transport infrastructure, Malaysia has a poor reputation for its public transit service. Consequently, the majority of urban residents continue to rely on their cars. Hence, this paper aims to understand commuters’ intention to switch from private vehicles to public transit and spread word-of-mouth (WOM) about its services and assess the roles of satisfaction and service quality as antecedents. A cross-sectional survey of 421 rail and bus passengers was undertaken in Kuala Lumpur's urban and sub-urban areas, and the data was analyzed using SmartPLS. According to the data, empathy is the strongest predictor of satisfaction with transit services. Except for reliability, the service quality characteristics influence satisfaction and yield positive indirect effects on both switching intention and WOM. Transit operators and planners should take into account that providing a pleasant and hassle-free riding experience has a substantial impact on commuter satisfaction and long-term commitment. This study contributed to the body of knowledge by exploring the intervention role of satisfaction in the relationship between service quality and switching intention, as well as WOM.

Customer satisfaction and loyalty with online consumer reviews: Factors affecting revisit intentions

While previous research investigated the effects of online consumer reviews on purchase behaviors, currently, there is still a lack of knowledge on the impact of the reviews' credibility, content quality and information usefulness on the customers’ satisfaction levels with them. Data were gathered from a sample of 512 participants. A partial least squares approach was utilized to evaluate the reliability and validity of the constructs and to identify the causal effects in this contribution’s structured model. The findings reveal that information usefulness is a very strong predictor of satisfaction. They also confirm highly significant indirect effects, between information quality and customer satisfaction, when information usefulness meditates this link. This study suggests that prospective customers appreciate quality reviews of consumers who have already experienced the hospitality services. It raises awareness about the usefulness of review sites as online users refer to their content before committing themselves to purchasing products and services.

Examining Students' Online Learning Satisfaction during COVID-19 to Inform Post-Pandemic Program Planning.

Student satisfaction is one of five pillars of quality online learning and is associated with academic achievement. This study aimed to examine nursing students' satisfaction with online learning during COVID-19, their desire to continue online classes, and associated factors. A cross-sectional survey was completed by 125 nursing students from a public university. The students' satisfaction was measured with the Student's Satisfaction Towards Online Learning Questionnaire. Demographics, stress, and resilience were also measured. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression. Fewer than half (41.8%) of students were satisfied with online learning. Just over half (51.2%) did not want to continue with online classes. The strongest predictor of satisfaction was course management and coordination. The strongest predictor for a preference to continue with online classes was the instructor's characteristics. Considering the trend of providing more online education to nursing students, instructors should be prepared for excellence in online course management and coordination as the instructors have a fundamental role in students' satisfaction with online learning. Further examination of nursing students' satisfaction with online learning during the pandemic may yield valuable insights for post-pandemic program planning.

Patient Satisfaction With Quality of Care at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Background The emergency department (ED) is the first contact of many individuals who require acute health services. This study was the first to be conducted among patients in different regions of Saudi Arabia to determine patient satisfaction with emergency healthcare services using the Arabic version of theEchelle de Qualité des Soins en Hospitalisation (EQS-H). Methodology This cross-sectional study was conducted among 2,997 patients admitted to the ED in different hospitals in different regions of Saudi Arabia. The study was based on a self-reported questionnaire validated to assess the satisfaction of patients with ED healthcare services calledEQS-H. In this study, we used an Arabic version of the questionnaire. Statistical analyses were performed using R version 3.6.3. Results The study was conducted among 2,997 patients (36.7% males and 63.3% females). Regarding region, respondents from the central region represented one-third of the sample (31.7%), followed by respondents from the western, eastern, and southern regions (24.1%, 16.9%, and 14.6%, respectively). Statistical analysis showed that the average percentage score for the clarity of information was significantly higher in the central region than in other regions and was lowest in the eastern region. Individuals aged 26-35 years (B = -2.54 and P < 0.05), male sex (B = -1.63 and P < 0.05), Saudis (B = -3.81 and P < 0.05), longer ED length of stay (LOS) (B = -2.19 and P < 0.001), worse perceived health state, and lower life satisfaction scale scores were significantly associated with lower levels of satisfaction with ED services. Perceived improvement is the strongest predictor of satisfaction. Conclusion Moderate satisfaction levels were reported in both the clarity of information domain and relationship with staff domain among patients admitted to EDs in different regions of Saudi Arabia, with better results in the central region.

Factors affecting patient satisfaction in refugee health centers in Turkey.

Turkey hosts an estimated 3.7 million Syrian refugees. Syrian refugees have access to free primary care provided through Refugee Health Centers(RHC). We aimed to determine factors that influence patient satisfaction in refugee health centers. The study was a cross-sectional quantitative study. A patient survey was administered among 4548 patients attending services in selected 16 provinces in Turkey. A quantitative questionnaire was used to collect information on patient satisfaction and experience in the healthcare facility. Information on "overall satisfaction with health services" was collected on a 5-point Likert scale and dichotomized for analysis. Logistic regression was conducted to identify factors that influenced patient satisfaction. We found that 78.2% of the participants were satisfied with the health services they received. Factors related to service quality and communication were significant determinants of patient satisfaction. The strongest predictors of satisfaction were having a sufficient consultation time (AOR: 2.37; 95% CI: 1.76-3.21; p< 0.0001), receiving a comprehensive examination (AOR: 2.01; 95% CI: 1.49-2.70; p < 0.0001) and being treated with respect by the nurse (AOR: 2.08; 95% CI: 1.52-2.85; p< 0.0001). Providing integrated, culturally and linguistically sensitive health services is important in refugee settings. The quality of service and communication with patients influence patient satisfaction in refugee health centers. As such, improvements in aspects such as consultation time and the quality of physician-patient interaction are recommended for patient satisfaction.

Understanding the invisible workforce: lessons for general practice from a survey of receptionists

IntroductionThe significance of the role of receptionists during the recent shift to remote triage has been widely recognised and they will have a significant role to play in UK general practice as it continues to cope with a huge increase in demand exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. To maximise their contribution, it is important the social and occupational characteristics of the modern receptionist are understood, alongside their attitudes towards the role and their perceptions of the support and training they receive .MethodsWe used convenience and cross-sectional sampling to survey the demographic characteristics of receptionists and various aspects of their role and responsibilities. This included the training received, specific tasks performed, job satisfaction, the importance of the role, and their interaction with clinical and non-clinical colleagues. We also captured data on the characteristics of their practice including the number of GPs and location.ResultsA total of 70 participants completed the survey (16 postal and 54 online responses) of whom the majority were white (97.2%), female (98.6%), and aged 40 and over (56.7%). The majority of the training focussed on customer service (72.9%), telephone (64.3%), and medical administration skills (58.6%). Just over a quarter had received training in basic triage (25.7%). A standard multiple regression model revealed that the strongest predictor of satisfaction was support from practice GPs (β = .65, p <.001) there were also significant positive correlations between satisfaction and appreciation from GPs, r(68) = .609, p < .001.ConclusionThis study has provided a much-needed update on the demographics, duties, and job satisfaction of GP receptionists. The need for diversification of the workforce to reflect the range of primary care patients warrants consideration in light of continuing variation in access along lines of gender andethnicity. Training continues to focus on administrative duties not on the clinically relevant aspects of their role such as triage.

Capability, opportunity, motivation, and social participation after stroke

ABSTRACT Background Stroke survivors report limited social participation, despite it being an important rehabilitation outcome. Interdisciplinary interventions for increasing social participation amongst stroke survivors lack theoretical guidance and evidence-based approaches. The Behavior Change Wheel (BCW) theorizes that capability, opportunity, and motivation contribute to behavior change. Objectives This study applied the BCW to understand the relationship between social participation and stroke survivors’ capability, opportunity, and motivation. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we recruited 30 community-dwelling adult stroke survivors. Assessments explored the frequency and satisfaction of social participation; physical and psychological capability; environmental accessibility and social opportunity; and motivation. A linear regression analysis was done. Results Motivation (R2 change = 29.3%, ß = 0.55) and environmental opportunity (R2 change = 11%, ß = 0.39) were statistically significant predictors of social participation frequency. Motivation (R2 change = 36.9%, ß = 0.61) was the only statistically significant predictor of satisfaction with social performance. Conclusions Motivation and environmental accessibility are statistically significant independent predictors of frequency of social participation after stroke. Motivation is the strongest predictor of satisfaction with social participation. Clinicians may support stroke survivors to promote social participation using approaches that increase motivation and environmental accessibility. Development of such theoretically sound interventions may be guided by the BCW.

COVID-19 and mandatory teleworking from home in Japan: taking stock to improve satisfaction and job performance

PurposeThis exploratory paper aims to examine attitudes and practices with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the effects of mandatory teleworking from home in the wake of the first state of emergency orders in Japan in 2020.Design/methodology/approachAn online survey of married employees retrospectively assessed changes in work style, subjective well-being, work–family conflict and job performance before and during forced teleworking from home in Tokyo and three of the surrounding prefectures.FindingsRegular employees reported high levels of anxiety and to have thoroughly implemented government-recommended hygiene and safety practices. A majority of respondents were satisfied with mandatory telework from home and desired to continue partial telework after the end of the pandemic. The strongest predictor of satisfaction with mandatory telework from home turned out to be adequate workspace at home for both men and women. However, the antecedents of the desire to continue working from home differed by gender.Practical implicationsThese findings can help individuals, firms and governments better understand the effects of mandatory teleworking from home and devise countermeasures to maximize employee well-being and job performance. This is all the more crucial, as Japan has had successive waves of the virus and has declared numerous states of emergency since the beginning of the pandemic, forcing office workers to continue social distancing and remote working for the time being.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this research is one of the first to provide insights on how imposed teleworking from home in the context of COVID-19 in Japan affected regular employees’ personal and professional lives and to identify predictors of satisfaction with teleworking and the desire to continue doing so.

Determinants of Satisfaction and Deep Structure Usage of Post-acceptance Learning Management Systems by Malaysian Higher Education Lecturers

This study investigates factors influencing satisfaction and deep structure usage of Learning Management Systems (LMS) using a revised expectation-confirmation model of information system continuance. It addresses the gaps in the existing literature that primarily focused on behavioral intention in the acceptance stage instead of deep structure usage in the post-acceptance stage. Deep structure usage refers to using LMS features to support an underlying teaching task. The study population consists of 54 lecturers in Malaysian private universities in the post-acceptance stage of LMS implementation. Data was gathered using a web-based survey questionnaire. Various variables were analyzed through statistical correlation and regression using a statistical package for social science software. This study concludes that confirmation of expectation and perceived usefulness positively impacted satisfaction; confirmation of expectation was the strongest predictor of satisfaction. Additionally, the combined effects of satisfaction, confirmation of expectation, and perceived usefulness positively correlated with deep structure usage of LMS. This study investigates whether lecturers would use the system to its full capacity if they found the LMS features useful to a specific teaching task and if the system provides satisfaction and fulfills the lecturers’ expectations. Future research recommends extending the model to investigate determinants of satisfaction and confirmation of expectations of specific LMS features in terms of technical, design, capability, and experiential aspects. This extension would enable a more detailed understanding of aspects that determine satisfaction and confirmation of expectation, directly influencing deep structure usage.

Group cohesion in group-based personal practice.

Personal practice (PP) is an integral component of many psychotherapy training programmes. It aims to promote personal and professional growth and is often conducted in a group format (g-PP). Group cohesion is one of the most researched mechanisms in group psychotherapy, but has rarely been studied in the context of g-PP. This exploratory study examines the associations between cohesion, satisfaction with g-PP, its impact on personal and professional development, and theoretical orientation in a sample of n = 329 German psychotherapy trainees. Cohesion was assessed with the group questionnaire (GQ-D; Positive Bonding, Positive Working, Negative Relationship). Overall, participants reported high levels of all outcome variables. Positive Bonding was the strongest predictor of satisfaction with g-PP (β = 0.46, p<.001). While trainees in cognitive behaviour therapy reported significantly better cohesion scores (d≥0.31), trainees in psychodynamic therapy reported significantly higher satisfaction with g-PP and its impact on their developments (d≥0.30). Group cohesion appears to be an important factor in g-PP that should be actively promoted by group leaders. However, longitudinal study designs are needed to better understand the emergence of cohesion in g-PP as well as potential moderating factors.

Rural-Urban Disparities and Factors Associated with Clients’ Satisfaction with Healthcare in a Nigerian population

Background: Clients’ satisfaction surveys are required to identify gaps and challenges in providing healthcare services; to ensure the quality of care and patient satisfaction.&#x0D; Objectives: To compare and assess factors responsible for healthcare satisfaction among rural and urban communities in Ilorin East Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State to improve service provision among the communities.&#x0D; Methods: This was a comparative, cross-sectional study involving rural (250) and urban (250) respondents selected through a multi-stage sampling technique and surveyed using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Focus Group Discussion was also used to collect qualitative data. Participants were selected through the purposive sampling technique.&#x0D; Results: The proportion of clients who expressed satisfaction was 172 (68.8%) among urban and 175 (70.0%) among rural respondents, (z = 0.57; p = 0.45). The attitude of healthcare personnel influenced satisfaction among both the rural (56.0%) and urban (63.3%) respondents, respectively; short waiting time (12.8%) and privacy of the consulting rooms (13.7%) were reasons influencing satisfaction with service.&#x0D; Conclusion: Short waiting time and privacy of consulting room were reasons for service satisfaction among clients. Waiting time was a strong predictor of satisfaction. There is a need to improve health personnel’s attitude to work to ensure clients’ satisfaction with healthcare services.

BRM: A methodology for improving the practical relevance of belief-based information technology usage theories

There has been extensive research in Information Systems (IS) regarding the individual-level beliefs that are germane to technology usage. Theories like the technology acceptance model, user satisfaction, service quality, the diffusion of innovations theory, and others identify a wide variety of influential beliefs, such as those that target properties of the system itself (e.g., its features), the use of it (e.g., its ease of use), or other contextual aspects (e.g., the pressure from peers to use it). These theories have been invaluable for understanding one of the most fundamental phenomena of interest to IS researchers and practitioners: individuals’ adoption and use of information technology (IT). However, as valuable as these theories are, there has been growing criticism about the fact that several of their constituting belief constructs (e.g., usefulness or quality) do not lend themselves to prescriptions for actionable interventions, in particular those geared toward IT design. This is especially problematic when it comes to applying or extending them to the contexts of emerging technologies, where best design practices are still to be discovered and tested. We address this concern by developing a Broadness Reduction Methodology (BRM) that relies on Fishbein and Ajzen's (1975) foundational work on the nature and formation of beliefs to help researchers develop belief-based theoretical models that are more relevant to IT practitioners. In order to illustrate the application of our methodology and demonstrate its validity, we apply it to the context of e-business. In doing so, we decompose the broad construct of supporting-service functionality, which has been shown to be a strong predictor of satisfaction and continued usage, into more specific constructs that are more amenable to actionable design recommendations.

The effects of vocational interests on motivation, satisfaction, and academic performance: Test of a mediated model

Theory and research suggest that vocational interests should predict individual behavior at work, in school, and during leisure time. However, more research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms for these relationships. In the present study, we suggest that satisfaction and motivation are direct outcomes of vocational interest fit and mediate the relationship between interest fit and behavior. We test this mediation model in a seven-week longitudinal study examining the prediction of academic performance in a sample of 372 college students. Results indicated that vocational interest fit had direct effects on performance, citizenship behavior, counterproductive behavior, and intent to leave even after controlling for cognitive ability and conscientiousness. Both motivation and satisfaction also mediated the relationships with several of these outcomes. Finally, results also showed that an objective measure of interest fit was a better predictor of performance while a perceived fit measure was a stronger predictor of satisfaction. These results suggest that vocational interest fit may be useful for identifying individuals who are likely to be successful in school and help to clarify several of the underlying mechanisms for this relationship.

Changes in Online Distance Learning Behaviour of University Students during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Outbreak, and development of the Model of Forced Distance Online Learning Preferences

&lt;p style="text-align:justify"&gt;Because of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, most universities were forced to choose Online Distance Learning (ODL). The study aimed to examine the response of university students to the new situation. A questionnaire was sent to the entire university student population. Based on responses from 606 students, it was revealed that use of all applications in ODL increased. However, only the use of MS Teams increased significantly, while the use of the other applications (email, Moodle, e-textbooks) increased in a range of low to medium in terms of effect sizes, and even nonsignificant for applications such as Padlet and Kahoot. Based on the replies of 414 respondents, a Model of Forced Distance Online Learning Preferences (MoFDOLP) based on Structural Equation Modeling was developed. With a chosen combination of predictors, we succeeded in predicting 95% of variance for Satisfaction, more than 50% for Continuance Preferences variance in MS Teams applications, and nearly 20% in the case of e-materials. Among hypothesized constructs, only Attitudes are a strong predictor of Satisfaction, while Organizational Support, Perceived Ease of Use and Learner Attitude toward Online Learning are not. Satisfaction is a good predictor of Continuance Preferences to use Information Technology after the lockdown ended.&lt;/p&gt;

Investigating 'Fear of Missing Out' (FOMO) as an extrinsic motive affecting sport event consumer's behavioral intention and FOMO-driven consumption's influence on intrinsic rewards, extrinsic rewards, and consumer satisfaction.

This study posits that Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) can function as an extrinsic motive stimulating sport event consumption by inducing consumers to overcome leisure constraints. Also, FOMO-driven consumption is proposed to affect consumption experience for being grounded on extrinsic than intrinsic rewards. In Study 1, the moderation of FOMO between intrapersonal and structural constraints and sport media viewing intention are tested. In Study 2, the relations among FOMO-driven consumption, intrinsic rewards (i.e., enjoyment), extrinsic rewards (i.e., social adherence), and consumer satisfaction are assessed. Study 1 results support the notion that FOMO can boost sport media viewing intention through two mechanisms: by directly stimulating intention and by lifting the negative effect of constraints on intention. In Study 2, FOMO-driven consumption shows a stronger link to extrinsic than intrinsic rewards, extrinsic reward is marginally but negatively associated with intrinsic reward, and intrinsic reward is a stronger predictor of satisfaction. Overall, FOMO is identified as a meaningful extrinsic motive for sport event consumption though its effects on consumer satisfaction are arguable. Implications for FOMO-driven marketing are discussed.

The role of dissonance reduction and co-creation strategies in shaping smart service satisfaction – the case of Uber

ABSTRACT Ride-sharing apps have both positive and negative impact in our daily lives. To study the negative impacts especially personal safety issues, this study explores the reaction of ride-sharing app users to such safety issues. We contextualise our study using a scenario based survey. We found empirical support to all the hypotheses by surveying 421 individuals. This study contributes to the information systems literature in providing ways to apply dissonance reduction techniques that are a strong predictor of satisfaction. In addition, this study extends the dimensions of service quality to better suit ride-sharing apps.

Factors predicting satisfaction in outpatient substance abuse treatment: a prospective follow-up study

BackgroundWhile treatment satisfaction has been associated with better outcomes in substance abuse treatment, there is an obvious need for a more profound understanding of what predicts client’s satisfaction with treatment. This study elucidates factors relevant to treatment outcome measured at follow-up in terms of satisfaction with the treatment received.MethodsThe research was implemented as a multisite study in outpatient clinics (N = 7) in southern and western Finland. Data consists of therapists (N = 33) and their clients (N = 327). Each consenting client beginning a treatment period was accepted as a research subject and all therapists at the clinics in question participated. The study was conducted as part of the clinic’s normal activity. Clients were allocated to therapists according to a randomization list drawn up in advance. Apart from the randomisation and the completion of questionnaires, it did not interfere with the progress of treatment. Follow-up lasted 6 months. Multiple Classification Analysis (MCA) was used through combinations of variables organized by content, e.g. client demographics, previous substance use, therapist’s characteristics and client’s expectations. The analyses were based in part on conventional statistical testing (t -test, χ2-test, ANOVA).ResultsAmong 37 independent variables few were statistically significant in the final model. The results suggest that high treatment expectations at baseline are a strong predictor of satisfaction at follow-up. Also, previous substance use predicted treatment satisfaction; people using multiple substances were less satisfied than those taking only one substance. Stronger predictors reduced the statistical significance of those independent variables that were statistically significant in the first analyses. Therefore, therapist’s role in recovery and readiness to change should be also seen as antecedents to treatment satisfaction.ConclusionsIt seems that treatment expectations are fulfilled among those participating in follow-up. Yet many are lost during treatment and by follow-up. Service users have experiential knowledge that differs from professionals’ and policymakers’ knowledge. It is clinically relevant to understand what factors affect client’s satisfaction. Hence, it is possible to identify the population whose treatment should receive the most attention, how the client’s experience, their commitment to treatment, and treatment effectiveness could be improved.

Preoperative low scores of Life Satisfaction Rating predicts poor outcomes after total knee arthroplasty: a prospective observational study

BackgroundDespite the continued improvement in the surgical techniques during primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA), literatures indicate that up to 10 to 20% patients are not satisfied with their outcomes. Psychological factors in this dissatisfaction are yet to be clearly identified. The aim of this study is to develop a method to assess whether the patient’s current mental state is suitable enough to accept a TKA surgery.MethodsPreoperative demographic and clinical data of 532 patients who underwent TKA were prospectively obtained from January 2012 until December 2016. We recorded the scores evaluated by SF-36 questionnaire and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) preoperatively and 1 year postoperatively. Preoperative Life Satisfaction Rating (LSR) is emphatically evaluated.ResultsPoor preoperative score of LSR was a significant predictor of dissatisfaction after TKA. Patients with low LSR reported significant pain and stiffness, although there was no remarkable effect on functionality of the replaced joint. The results also showed that age and BMI were not strong predictors of satisfaction in TKA.ConclusionOur outcomes can help clinicians evaluate whether a patient’s current mental status is favorable for TKA. If patients have extreme low scores of LSR (less than 10), a psychological intervention should be recommended for better satisfaction following a TKA surgery. This would also allow surgeons to individually assess the risks and benefits of surgery.

Authenticity, involvement, and nostalgia: Understanding visitor satisfaction with an adaptive reuse heritage site in urban China

Abstract This study investigated the impact of perceived authenticity, involvement, and nostalgic experience on visitor satisfaction with an adaptive reuse urban heritage site, Foshan Lingnan Tiandi in Guangdong province, southern China. Data were collected through an on-site survey and analyzed using a structural equation modeling approach. The results showed that perceived authenticity had a significant positive impact on nostalgia, which was found to have a significant positive effect on satisfaction. However, perceived authenticity had no significant direct impact on visitor satisfaction; nor did it exert a significant indirect impact on visitor satisfaction through nostalgia. Involvement was the strongest predictor of satisfaction, while nostalgia partially mediated the relationship between involvement and satisfaction. This study suggests that the formation of visitor satisfaction at reuse heritage sites differs somewhat from that in general heritage tourism, where authenticity plays a pivotal role.
