PERCEPTIONS OF THE APPLICATION OF THE CARE MODEL FOR CHRONIC CONDITIONS IN PARANÁ, BRAZIL

The current healthcare model for users with chronic conditions in the Unified Health System needs to be transformed. In Paraná, there are strategies for continuing education and co-financing of services focused on the Chronic Conditions Care Model. This is a descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach that analyzed the perceptions of Primary Health Care and Specialized Outpatient Care professionals about the implementation of the Chronic Conditions Care Model. Four focus groups were held, with the participation of 37 professionals, and the discussions permeated the work processes from the perspective of thematic analysis. The statements identified elements such as risk stratification of the health condition, organization of care, and team rapprochement. The development of the care plan is incipient due to the lack of understanding of professionals and users about the tool. In health units, access occurs according to the logic of acute care, and care sharing through regulatory centers. Continuing education strategies, structured public policies and specific financing are drivers for the consolidation of the Model.

A peer-to-peer infection prevention and control programme in neglected settings: The case of home care and nursing homes in North Italy.

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are an increasing concern and educational programmes may increase healthcare professionals' adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines. However, despite evidence regarding the effectiveness of peer-to-peer educational programmes, to our knowledge, no studies have been conducted in non-hospital settings. A post-intervention pilot study based on peer-to-peer meetings on HAI topics in home care and nursing homes was conducted. A survey was administered to eligible nurses willing to participate, collecting socio-demographic data, the perceived effectiveness and quality of the programme, and the topics for future meetings. Twelve 'Pills of Prevention' seminars were held, enrolling 115 nurses and nursing aides. Of the 115 participants, 81 (70.4%) were eligible and 31 (38.2%) completed the survey. Participants found tangible changes in the clinical settings mostly at the individual level, with bundles/checklists delivered during the meetings mostly being used in everyday practice. Regarding the perceived quality, the overall satisfaction with the programme was high due to the opportunity to 'freely share own opinions' and the 'appropriateness of selected topics'. 'Bundles/checklists' were seen as the most interesting topics to prioritize in the future among home care nurses, while HAIs in COVID-19 patients were the least. A community-based peer-to-peer programme, still neglected in terms of HAIs' continuing education strategies, is appreciated and may produce benefits both at the individual and the group level.

Efforts to enhance the awareness in significance of early detection for dental and oral diseases in the society 5.0

Oral health is an integral part of overall well-being that demands attention from every individual. Poor oral hygiene can lead to various oral diseases, including dental caries. This community service program aimed to enhance students' understanding of oral health, encourage regular dental checkups, and promote preventive measures against oral diseases through the utilization of various digital tools, including an early detection screening application. Health education sessions were conducted, incorporating pre- and post-tests to evaluate learning outcomes. Additionally, clinical examinations were carried out to assess students' oral health status. The results were encouraging, counseling and education sessions significantly increased knowledge and awareness in over half the participants (55%). However, clinical examinations revealed that a substantial portion (36 students) had unhealthy oral hygiene, highlighting the need for continuous education and preventive strategies.

Mental Illness in Refugee and Immigrant Women: A Midwife's Perspective on Culturally Competent Care

The assessment, diagnosis and referral for mental illness management have been recognized as indispensable roles within midwifery practice both in the United States and in Canada. War, civil unrest and natural disasters, have made mental health assessment crucial for refugee and new immigrant women who present as midwifery clients. Since 1991, National Depression Screening Day (NDSD) had been conducted in cities across the United States and Canada using the Harvard Department of Psychiatry National Depression Screening Day Scale (HANDS©). It facilitates the diagnosis of depression based on DSM-IV criteria. The HANDS© tool includes a 10-item interview guide which is a “self-report scale”. HANDS© demonstrated good internal consistency and validity and was 95 percent sensitive.33 Responses could indicate the need for thyroid screening, referral for mental health counselling or psychiatric care. Strategies for transforming midwifery practice are explored: taking a holistic approach, communication strategies, continuing education strategies, documentation and empowerment issues, multidisciplinary team approach, clinic environment issues, resources and referral base. As we develop expertise in the care of torture and trauma survivors, it behooves us to identify the experts amongst our ranks and to refer our clients to these midwives who will best meet their needs. Further research is needed to guide our incorporation of the skills for treating survivors in our educational programs for the midwives of the future.

Nursing competencies in aeromedical transport in the Brazilian Air Force: a descriptive study.

To analyze nursing skills in military aeromedical transport of the Brazilian Air Force. Descriptive, qualitative research, carried out in three Brazilian Air Force hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, involving 64 military nurses. Discursive textual analysis identified competencies in healthcare, communication and decision-making. After characterizing participants, it was possible to understand the reality experienced by nursing professionals in air medical transport, highlighting the skills related to healthcare, communication and management, essential in all phases of air medical transport. It was evident that nursing assumes unique skills in caring for airborne patients, using diverse knowledge and experiences in solving problems encountered in the aeromedical work process. The need to implement continuing education strategies was also highlighted. The findings serve as support for professionals and managers to identify gaps in knowledge, performance and management of professional schedules in aeromedical transport.

The Continuing Education of The University Librarians in Hebei Province

This paper examines the landscape of continuing education for university librarians in Hebei Province, emphasizing best practices and challenges encountered in the process. Within the context of rapidly evolving academic and technological landscapes, continuing education stands as a cornerstone for librarians' growth and proficiency. The study analyzes existing literature, incorporating insights from experts and practitioners in the field. Key challenges identified include resource constraints, tailoring education to professional needs, securing institutional support, technological readiness, and sustaining engagement. Recommendations encompass strategic resource allocation, customized education approaches, enhanced technological integration, and the cultivation of a continuous learning culture. This study advocates for proactive measures to navigate these challenges and optimize continuing education strategies, ensuring librarians are well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of the academic environment.

Evaluating Standardized Job Competencies for Managing Students at Risk for Anaphylaxis in Elementary School Nurses.

This study aimed to evaluate standardized job competencies of elementary school nurses in managing the health of students at risk for anaphylaxis (SRAs). A total of 166 elementary school nurses from across Korea participated in this study. The tool utilized was a list of standardized job tasks of elementary school nurses in managing SRAs' health. Seven factors were obtained from the factor analysis, with a cumulative variance explained of 68.6%. The importance-performance analysis method was employed to suggest priority areas for training. The factors placed in quadrant II included: (1) "offering psychological support", among elementary school nurses who have been provided with clinical information on anaphylaxis, (2) "providing emergency care", among those who have not been provided with clinical information on anaphylaxis, (3) the factors "utilizing individualized healthcare plans", "conducting health education and staff training", and "evaluating the student", among those who agreed that schools need legal protection to purchase epinephrine auto-injectors, and (4) the factor "preparing a school emergency system", among those with less than five years of experience as a school nurse. When planning continuing education strategies to improve elementary school nurses' management of SRAs, factors such as career experience, access to clinical information, and beliefs regarding legal protection for schools to purchase epinephrine auto-injectors should be considered.

Diabetes knowledge and training needs among non-endocrinology nurses

BackgroundIt is necessary to determine the diabetes knowledge level among non-endocrinology nurses in primary care hospitals to develop continuing education strategies. MethodA questionnaire survey was conducted among 6819 non-endocrinology nurses in 70 primary hospitals in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to assess their diabetes knowledge level and training needs. Factors affecting knowledge level were analyzed using multiple linear regression models. ResultsDiabetes knowledge was low, particularly for diabetes monitoring. Knowledge was higher in nurses who had in-service education and training in diabetes; most believed that training was necessary and hoped to improve their ability to care for diabetic patients. The most suitable training method was considered to be each nurse was taught by an assigned person after centralized specialized education and training. ConclusionNon-endocrinology nurses in primary care hospitals lack knowledge of diabetes and have a strong need for training. Systematic training is required to ensure that patients receive high-quality and comprehensive care.

Estratégias educativas em cuidados paliativos para profissionais da saúde

Abstract Although palliative care is expanding in Brazil, there are still weaknesses related to professional training and continuing education. This study mapped the main educational strategies regarding palliative care for healthcare professionals in Brazil. A scoping review was conducted in three databases, in which original articles, experience reports, theses, dissertations and case studies were found, totaling 39 documents published between 2002 and 2022. Data analysis resulted in three categories: institutional strategies, formal teaching processes and continuing education strategies. Results show that many initiatives are still analogous to the logic of continuing education and poorly integrated with the teaching-service perspective, generating a need to promote continuing education actions in everyday work at all levels of healthcare.

Meanings and actions inferred by nurses for minimizing medication errors in pediatrics

Objective: to understand the meanings and actions inferred by nurses to minimize the error in the administration of medications in pediatrics. Methods: a qualitative study anchored in Symbolic Interactionism. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 11 nurses, who attributed the meanings and their actions to reduce medication errors in Pediatrics. The content analysis was composed of pre-analysis, exploration, treatment and interpretation of data. Results: three categories emerged: Individual actions (planning, attention, communication and application of the checklist in the use of the “right ones”); Multi-professional and organizational interactions (teamwork, automated system, staff dimensioning, double-checking in checking medications, professional articulation, organizational actions, institutional policies and communication) and Continuing education strategies (training and capacity building). Conclusion: technical aspects, work dynamics, need for updating, attitudes related to individual actions, multi-professional interactions, organizational and continuing education were meanings and actions inferred by nurses for the minimization of the error in medication administration in Pediatrics. Contributions to practice: it is necessary that the topic of medication administration be a continuous point in the permanent education programs in the health services in order to guarantee the minimization of errors and thus promote greater safety for users.

Impact of 10-Day Fulbright Specialist Program and Project Pink Blue Education Sessions on Medical Oncology Knowledge Among Physicians Who Treat Cancer in Nigeria.

Despite an estimated population of over 201 million and over 115,950 yearly diagnosed new cases of cancer, Nigeria does not have dedicated medical oncologists. Most oncology care is delivered through surgical and clinical oncologists, who are trained in both radiation and medical oncology and they number fewer than 50 in the country. With a limited number of oncology professionals, cancer patients in Nigeria experience poor health outcomes, with an estimated cancer mortality rate of 75,000 deaths per year. Participants from 15 Nigerian states were selected to attend the medical oncology training. Through the support of Fulbright Specialist Program and Project PINK BLUE, two of the authors delivered 10days of lectures based on ASCO, ESMO, and NCCN guidelines. Mean scores of both the pre- and post-course tests as well as a 1-year follow-up test were compared using GraphPad Prism 7.0a by paired t-tests. Forty-four clinical oncologists were selected for participation. Twenty-five (57%) completed the pre- and post-course tests. Of the 25 that completed both tests, percentage of correct answers increased from 45 to 59% (2-sided p-value < 0.0001). Improvements were seen in attending doctors 45 to 59% (p = 0.0046) and resident doctors 45 to 59% (0.0007). Eleven doctors responded to the 1-year follow-up test. Although not statistically significant, a numerical pattern for the benefits was maintained 1year after the program (45% pre-course versus 52% post-course correct answers, Fisher's exact, p = 0.4185). In the short term, the training improved medical oncology knowledge in Nigeria, regardless of the participant's carrier stage. Long-term benefits were not sustained in a small sample of participants, and continuing education strategies are necessary. Similar models may be employed across Africa.

Narrativas dos Registros Fotográficos das Práticas de Educadores Sociais de uma Instituição de Acolhimento para Crianças e Adolescentes

Abstract The social educator offers a set of practices aimed at children/adolescents in institutional care. This study aimed to analyze the practices of social educators based on narratives of photographic records in a residential group homes for children and adolescents in the Southern Brazil. Ten adults participated. Photographic recording and narrative interview script were used and analyzed based on the acquired data. The care provided surpassed the assistance for basic needs, a relevant aspect for practices carried out in a humanized and comprehensive manner. Favorable conditions were identified for the expression of play through creativity, and recognition of life history and aspects of development. The results indicated involvement in care, and this can strengthen continuing education strategies in line with current public policies.

Meanings Assigned by Primary Care Professionals to Male Prenatal Care: A Qualitative Study

Background: Considering recent strategies used in prenatal care, the involvement of fathers has been considered an important factor in ensuring that pregnancy and delivery are successful. Objective: The aim of this study is to identify the meanings assigned by primary health care professionals to male prenatal care. Methods: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. A total of 19 interviews were conducted with primary health care professionals registered in the City Health Department of Teresina, Piauí, Brazil. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed according to the Collective Subject Discourse methodology. Results: Three themes emerged from the reports’ analysis: The importance of the role of fathers in the gestational process, attitudes of men toward male prenatal care and formal education and training in primary health care. Health practitioners understand the importance of male prenatal care but reported they lack proper training to provide effective care. Conclusion: The expansion of continuing education strategies focusing on male prenatal care and directed to primary health care professionals is recommended to promote greater adherence on the part of fathers in prenatal care, with the purpose of strengthening bonds and improving the care provided to the entire family. The humanized care can facilitate the approach of the paternal figure during male prenatal care.

Postgraduate pharmacist development- an evaluation of Jordanian pharmacist experiences to inform and shape an evidence-based professional development policy.

Building capacity for developing skills as leadership, teamwork, and continuous academic support has become essential for fulfilling a successful pharmacy career. This study aims to assess Jordanian pharmacists’ views on professional development, namely: the continuous education infrastructure, strategies and programs for personal development, leadership skills, incentive schemes, drug information resources and digital services. As well as exploring options for better academic support delivered to pharmacists. To capture participant’s views, an online validated and reliable survey was developed. Non-probability sampling design was used. Participants were qualified pharmacists working at Royal Medical Services (RMS) and Community Pharmacists (CP). Comparison and descriptive statistics were used to report the results. A total of 271 pharmacists participated, 144 from RMS (8% more than the needed sample) and 127 CP (7% more than the needed sample). There was a strong desire amongst both RMS and PC groups for continuous educational training particularly in the following areas, first: Advanced counselling and communication skills (means = 8.99±0.145, CI 95% = 3.70–4.28 and 9.37±0.096, CI 95% = 4.18–4.56). Second: Personal development skills (mean = 8.92±0.142, CI 95% = 3.64–4.20 and 9.02±0.145, CI 95% = 3.73–4.30). Third, Pharmaceutical health promotion (mean = 8.05±0.180, CI 95% = 2.70–3.41 and 8.57±0.159, CI 95% = 3.26–3.89). Only 19.4% and 18.1% of the RMS and CPs respectively reported the presence of a written policy for personal development and leadership in their workplace. There were few incentives for pharmacists to participate in research. Few pharmacists used the available drug information and toxicology centers. The professional and continuous personal development of pharmacists support an evolving healthcare system. This study emphasizes the need for a tailored and documented postgraduate educational strategy, personal development, and leadership skills training in Jordan. Implementing a well-defined scheme of incentives should be encouraged to engage pharmacists in continuous professional development programs and pharmaceutical research. Such strategy and training should enhance both professional and personal performance.

FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF CORPORATE EDUCATION IN POLAND IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH – EARLY 21TH CENTURY

The article represents an overview and substantiation of the peculiarities of the formation and development of corporate education in Poland in the second half of the 20th - early 21th century. The definition of ‘corporate education’ in the context of adult education is clarified in the text. The importance of the experience of corporate education of the Republic of Poland as a component of adult education for the Ukrainian education system was noted. The purpose of the article is a theoretical substantiation of the peculiarities of the formation and development of corporate education in Poland in the second half of the 20th – early 21th century. It was found that during the existence of the People’s Republic of Poland (1952–1989) no special legislation and regulations on the organization of corporate education were adopted in the country. The problems of formation of corporate education, which have been being solved by the People’s Republic of Poland in the 50-70s of the last century were singled out. In the article was proven the importance of the adoption of the Labor Code (1974), the Employment Act (1989), The Law On the Education System (1991), the Act on Employment and Social Protection in case of Unemployment (1994), the document «Continuing Education Strategy till 2010»; (2003). The following features of formation and development of corporate education in Poland in the second half of the 20th – early 21th century are established as: the centralizing the management of educational institutions and ideologically biased content of education; the transition from the administrative-command method in the management of formal education institutions; the spread of the decentralization of education; laying the foundation for the democratization of corporate education in Poland; the emergence of a regulatory framework for broad autonomy of informal corporate education; the adapting the legal framework of education to European Union standards; the integration of Polish corporate education into the European Community. In the future, it is necessary to study the trends of updating the content, forms and methods of vocational training of adults, taking into account the requirements of international standards for training competitive professionals for the global labor market.

Contribution of Professor S.G. Vershlovsky to Developing the Idea of Mentoring in the Education System

The article makes an attempt to comprehend the modern tendency of mentoring in the education system and the contribution of Professor Semyon Grigorievich Vershlovsky to the theory and practice of its implementation. The paper identifies the problem of &amp;quot;scientific deficits&amp;quot; in the professional activities of teachers and the role of S.G. Vershlovsky as a mentor of a scientific career. The article provides examples of mentoring in the field of scientific career in a number of scientific areas of the professional activities of Professor S.G. Vershlovsky: organization and activities of schools-laboratiries in St. Petersburg; development of andragogical science; postgraduate teacher education in the context of continuing education strategy; socio-pedagogical dimension of modern education.

Effectiveness of an educational manual to promote infant feeding practices in primary health care

Abstract Background Breastfeeding and adequate complementary feeding in the first years of life provide short- and long-term benefits for child health. However, breastfeeding and adequate complementary feeding prevalence's are low. In Brazil, the Estratégia Amamenta e Alimenta Brasil (EAAB) aims to improve the quality of the assistance provided by primary healthcare teams to ultimately improving infant feeding practices in the Brazilian population. In primary healthcare units, continuing education in breastfeeding and complementary feeding is facilitated by EAAB tutors. A Manual to Support EAAB Tutor (the Manual) was developed following a problem-based learning methodology. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using the Manual by analyzing exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding indicators. Methods A before and after study was conducted at primary healthcare units in Embu das Artes, Brazil. The intervention consisted in the use of the Manual by EAAB tutors who performed some comprehensive training activities with healthcare teams, in a period of 8 months. Subjects consisted of mothers of infants under one year of age attended at primary healthcare units. 561 mothers before and 598 mothers after intervention were interviewed about breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices. Multivariate analysis was performed using Poisson multilevel regression to test the hypothesis. Results Lack of minimum food diversity (before 62.9%; after 50.3%) and lack of food adequacy (before 77.5%; after 63.3%) decreased significantly. Regression analysis confirmed that infants after the intervention had lower prevalence of inadequacy of complementary feeding. While the intervention did not show significant association with exclusive breastfeeding, it showed association with the improvement of complementary feeding practices. Conclusions The Manual is a continuing educational strategy that improved complementary feeding practices in primary health care. Key messages The use of a continuing education strategy grounded on a problem-based learning methodology was effective to produce improvements in complementary feeding practices in primary health care. The 'Manual to Support EAAB Tutor' consists of a tool that has the potential to be adapted for different contexts and easy to disclose to all EAAB tutors in the country.

Continuing endodontic education and COVID‐19: before, during and after?

In all likelihood, the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to have a major impact on the practice of dentistry, not only in clinical practice but also in education. Certainly both dental schools and continuing education providers will be impacted, and particularly with respect to hand skill teaching for example in endodontic procedures.

Longitudinal Comparison of Hospital Nurses' Values, Knowledge, and Implementation of Evidence-Based Practice.

Hospital-based educators use resource-intensive residency and continuing education programs to assist RNs in delivering evidence-based practice (EBP). Yet, little is known about whether such programs improve or sustain nurses' EBP values, knowledge, and implementation. A two-group longitudinal posttest-only study was conducted using a convenience sample of 115 RNs; 51 participants received a comprehensive EBP continuing education intervention, and 64 participants received no intervention. Participation rates were 85% at 6 months and 65% at 12 months. Knowledge scores between the two groups were significantly different at 6 months and sustained at 12 months, although the intervention group comprised more master's-prepared nurses. EBP values and implementation scores did not differ between the two groups, and EBP values were not associated with EBP use. The only nurse characteristic demonstrating a statistically significant relationship with the outcomes was highest degree earned. Further research is needed with more robust study designs to determine how best to facilitate the use of EBP among hospital RNs. Accurate diagnosis and repair of obstetric anal sphincter injuries: why and how

Obstetric anal sphincter injuries represent the minority of obstetric lacerations, but can have a significant long-term impact on urinary and fecal continence, as well as pelvic organ support. Accurate diagnosis of lacerations, appropriate repair, and close follow-up are essential to healthy healing and to improve outcomes for women. The infrequency of these injuries has resulted in a lack of familiarity with laceration repair and postpartum care of this population at all levels of practice. As such, continuing education strategies aimed at simulation, increased clinical exposure to anal sphincter injuries, and evidence-based repair techniques are important for mitigating the deficits in the current obstetric environment. Ensuring that patients have access to timely multidisciplinary postpartum care and education on the laceration incurred is essential to promote healthy healing and to optimize pelvic floor outcomes.
