Analysis of a positivity-preserving splitting scheme for some semilinear stochastic heat equations

We construct a positivity-preserving Lie–Trotter splitting scheme with finite difference discretization in space for approximating the solutions to a class of semilinear stochastic heat equations with multiplicative space-time white noise. We prove that this explicit numerical scheme converges in the mean-square sense, with rate 1/4 in time and rate 1/2 in space, under appropriate CFL conditions. Numerical experiments illustrate the superiority of the proposed numerical scheme compared with standard numerical methods which do not preserve positivity.

Solution theory to semilinear stochastic equations of Schrödinger type on curved spaces I: operators with uniformly bounded coefficients

We study the Cauchy problem for Schrödinger type stochastic semilinear partial differential equations with uniformly bounded variable coefficients, depending on the space variables. We give conditions on the coefficients, on the drift and diffusion terms, on the Cauchy data, and on the spectral measure associated with the noise, such that the Cauchy problem admits a unique function-valued mild solution in the sense of Da Prato and Zabczyc.

Dynamics of locally monotone stochastic evolution equations

This paper is concerned with the dynamics of the locally monotone stochastic evolution equations in Bochner spaces. We first prove the well-posedness of the abstract stochastic evolution equations with locally Lipschitz nonlinear diffusion terms. Then we establish a mean random dynamical system and prove the existence and uniqueness of weak pullback mean random attractors generated by the mean random dynamical system. Furthermore, we prove the existence of invariant measures for the locally monotone model. As applications, the related dynamics for several stochastic models such as stochastic semilinear equations, stochastic Burgers equation and stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equations are established.

Regularity of the law of solutions to the stochastic heat equation with non-Lipschitz reaction term

We prove the existence of a density for the solution to the multiplicative semilinear stochastic heat equation on an unbounded spatial domain, with drift term satisfying a half-Lipschitz type condition. The methodology is based on a careful analysis of differentiability for a map defined on weighted functional spaces.

Solving stochastic equations with unbounded nonlinear perturbations

This paper is interested in semilinear stochastic equations having unbounded nonlinear perturbations in the deterministic part and/or in the random part. Moreover, the linear part of these equations is governed by a not necessarily analytic semigroup. The main difficulty with these equations is how to define the concept of mild solutions due to the chosen type of unbounded perturbations. To overcome this problem, we first proved a regularity property of the stochastic convolution with respect to the domain of ‘admissible’ unbounded linear operators (not necessarily closed or closable). This is done using Yosida extensions of such unbounded linear operators. After proving the well-posedness of these equations, we also establish the Feller property for the corresponding transition semigroups. Several examples like heat equations and Schrödinger equations with nonlocal perturbations terms are given. Finally, we give an application to a general class of semilinear neutral stochastic equations.

Global null-controllability for stochastic semilinear parabolic equations

In this paper, we prove the small-time global null-controllability of forward (resp. backward) semilinear stochastic parabolic equations with globally Lipschitz nonlinearities in the drift and diffusion terms (resp. in the drift term). In particular, we solve the open question posed by S. Tang and X. Zhang, in 2009. We propose a new twist on a classical strategy for controlling linear stochastic systems. By employing a new refined Carleman estimate, we obtain a controllability result in a weighted space for a linear system with source terms. The main novelty here is that the Carleman parameters are made explicit and are then used in a Banach fixed point method. This allows to circumvent the well-known problem of the lack of compactness embeddings for the solutions spaces arising in the study of controllability problems for stochastic PDEs.

Existence and uniqueness of global solutions to the stochastic heat equation with superlinear drift on an unbounded spatial domain

We prove the existence and uniqueness of global solutions to the semilinear stochastic heat equation on an unbounded spatial domain with forcing terms that grow superlinearly and satisfy an Osgood condition [Formula: see text] along with additional restrictions. For example, consider the forcing [Formula: see text]. A new dynamic weighting procedure is introduced to control the solutions, which are unbounded in space.

Convergence analysis of explicit stabilized integrators for parabolic semilinear stochastic PDEs

Abstract Explicit stabilized integrators are an efficient alternative to implicit or semiimplicit methods to avoid the severe time-step restriction faced by standard explicit integrators applied to stiff diffusion problems. In this paper we provide a fully discrete strong convergence analysis of a family of explicit stabilized methods coupled with finite element methods for a class of parabolic semilinear deterministic and stochastic partial differential equations. Numerical experiments including the semilinear stochastic heat equation with space-time white noise confirm the theoretical findings.

Regularity and Strict Positivity of Densities for the Nonlinear Stochastic Heat Equation

In this paper, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence and regularity of the density of the solution to a semilinear stochastic (fractional) heat equation with measure-valued initial conditions. Under a mild cone condition for the diffusion coefficient, we establish the smooth joint density at multiple points. The tool we use is Malliavin calculus. The main ingredient is to prove that the solutions to a related stochastic partial differential equation have negative moments of all orders. Because we cannot prove u ( t , x ) ∈ D ∞ u(t,x)\in \mathbb {D}^\infty for measure-valued initial data, we need a localized version of Malliavin calculus. Furthermore, we prove that the (joint) density is strictly positive in the interior of the support of the law, where we allow both measure-valued initial data and unbounded diffusion coefficient. The criteria introduced by Bally and Pardoux are no longer applicable for the parabolic Anderson model. We have extended their criteria to a localized version. Our general framework includes the parabolic Anderson model as a special case.

Time-Optimal Control for Semilinear Stochastic Functional Differential Equations with Delays

The purpose of this paper is to find the time-optimal control to a target set for semilinear stochastic functional differential equations involving time delays or memories under general conditions on a target set and nonlinear terms even though the equations contain unbounded principal operators. Our research approach is to construct a fundamental solution for corresponding linear systems and establish variations of a constant formula of solutions for given stochastic equations. The existence result of time-optimal controls for one point target set governed by the given semilinear stochastic equation is also established.

A local discontinuous Galerkin method for nonlinear parabolic SPDEs

In this paper, we propose a local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method for nonlinear and possibly degenerate parabolic stochastic partial differential equations, which is a high-order numerical scheme. It extends the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method for purely hyperbolic equations to parabolic equations and shares with the DG method its advantage and flexibility. We prove theL2-stability of the numerical scheme for fully nonlinear equations. Optimal error estimates (O(h(k+1))) for smooth solutions of semi-linear stochastic equations is shown if polynomials of degreekare used. We use an explicit derivative-free order 1.5 time discretization scheme to solve the matrix-valued stochastic ordinary differential equations derived from the spatial discretization. Numerical examples are given to display the performance of the LDG method.

Controllability of Impulsive Semilinear Stochastic Heat Equation with Delay

LaSalle wrote the following: “it is never possible to start the system exactly in its equilibrium state, and the system is always subject to outside forces not taken into account by the differential equations. The system is disturbed and is displaced slightly from its equilibrium state. What happens? Does it remain near the equilibrium state? This is stability. Does it remain near the equilibrium state and in addition tend to return to the equilibrium? This is asymptotic stability.” Continuing with what LaSalle said, we conjecture that real-life systems are always under the influence of impulses, delays, memory, nonlocal conditions, and noises, which are intrinsic phenomena no taken into account by the mathematical model that is representing by a differential equation. For many control systems in real life, delays, impulses, and noises are natural properties that do not change their behavior. So, we conjecture that, under certain conditions, the abrupt changes, delays, and noises as perturbations of a system do not modify certain properties such as controllability. In this regard, we prove the interior S ∗ -controllability of the semilinear stochastic heat equation with impulses and delay on the state variable, and this is done by using new techniques avoiding fixed point theorems employed by Bashirov et al.

Convergence and stability of exponential integrators for semi-linear stochastic variable delay integro-differential equations

ABSTRACT In this paper, the numerical method for semi-linear stochastic variable delay integro-differential equations is studied. The stability of analytic solutions of semi-linear stochastic variable delay integro-differential equations are studied first, some suitable conditions for the mean-square stability of the analytic solutions are also obtained. Then the numerical approximation of exponential integrators for semi-linear stochastic variable delay integro-differential equations are constructed, the convergence and the stability of the numerical method are studied. It is proved that the exponential Euler method is convergent with the strong order 1/2 and the exponential Euler method can keep the mean-square exponential stability of the analytical solution under some restrictions on the step size. In addition, numerical experiments are presented to confirm the theoretical results.

An Ultra-Weak Discontinuous Galerkin Method with Implicit–Explicit Time-Marching for Generalized Stochastic KdV Equations

In this paper, an ultra-weak discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method is developed to solve the generalized stochastic Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equations driven by a multiplicative temporal noise. This method is an extension of the DG method for purely hyperbolic equations and shares the advantage and flexibility of the DG method. Stability is analyzed for the general nonlinear equations. The ultra-weak DG method is shown to admit the optimal error of order $$k+1$$ in the sense of the spatial $$L^2(0,2\pi )$$-norm for semi-linear stochastic equations, when polynomials of degree $$k\ge 2$$ are used in the spatial discretization. A second order implicit–explicit derivative-free time discretization scheme is also proposed for the matrix-valued stochastic ordinary differential equations derived from the spatial discretization. Numerical examples using Monte Carlo simulation are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

Approximate controllability of semi-linear stochastic integro-differential equations with infinite delay

Abstract In this work, by constructing fundamental solutions and using the theory of resolvent operators and fractional powers of operators, we study the approximate controllability of a class of semi-linear stochastic integro-differential equations with infinite delay in $L_p$ space ($2<p<\infty $). Sufficient conditions for approximate controllability of the discussed equations are obtained under the assumption that the associated deterministic linear system is approximately controllable. An example is provided to illustrate the obtained results.

A Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Stochastic Conservation Laws

In this paper we present a discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method to approximate stochastic conservation laws, which is an efficient high-order scheme. We study the stability for the semidiscrete DG methods for fully nonlinear stochastic equations. Error estimates are obtained for smooth solutions of semilinear stochastic equations with variable coefficients. We also establish a derivative-free second-order time discretization scheme for matrix-valued stochastic ordinary differential equations. Numerical experiments are performed to confirm the analytical results.

Design of boundary stabilizers for the non-autonomous cubic semilinear heat equation driven by a multiplicative noise

Here we study the problem of boundary feedback stabilization to unbounded trajectories for semi-linear stochastic heat equation with cubic non-linearity. The feedback controller is linear, given in a simple explicit form and involves only the eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator. It is supported in a given open subset of the boundary of the domain. Via a rescaling argument, we transform the stochastic equation into a random deterministic one. The simple-form feedback allows to write the solution, of the random equation, in a mild formulation via a kernel. Appealing to a fixed point argument its stability is proved. The approach requires the initial data to be a random variable implying the fact that the solution of the random equation is not adapted. Thus, one cannot recover the solution of the initial stochastic equation from the random one. Hence, the designed feedback controller stabilizes the associated random equation and not the original stochastic equation. Anyway, it stabilizes its random version.

Lipschitz stability for a semi-linear inverse stochastic transport problem

Abstract This paper is addressed to a semi-linear stochastic transport equation with three unknown parameters. It is proved that the initial displacement, the terminal state and the random term in diffusion are uniquely determined by the state on partial boundary and a Lipschitz stability of the inverse problem is established. The main tool we employ is a global Carleman estimate for stochastic transport equations.

Moderate deviations for a class of semilinear SPDE with fractional noises

Let denote the set of functions which are β-Hölder continuous in t and -Hölder continuous in x with and In this article, we prove a large deviation principles in for the solution to a class of stochastic semilinear equation arising from 1-dimension integro-differential scalar conservation laws. The equation is driven by a double-parameter fractional noise. In addition, we also prove a central limit theorem and establish a moderate deviation principle for the same stochastic partial differential equation.

Global Solutions to Stochastic Volterra Equations Driven by Lévy Noise

Abstract In this paper we investigate the existence and uniqueness of semilinear stochastic Volterra equations driven by multiplicative Lévy noise of pure jump type. Here, A is a selfadjoint operator on a Hilbert space H, b is a scalar memory function and F, G and GL are nonlinear mappings. We provide conditions on b, F G and GL under which a unique global solution exists. We also present an example from the theory of linear viscoelasticity where our result is applicable. The specific kernel b(t) = cρtρ−2, 1 < ρ < 2, corresponds to a fractional-in-time stochastic equation and the nonlinear maps F and G can include fractional powers of A.
