The article deals with the issues of innovative development of passenger transport through the introduction of IT technologies; intelligent transport systems in major cities of the world; the functions of the state in the creation and operation of intelligent transport systems. The article analyzes the legal framework of the Republic of Belarus, the state of information technologies in transport, and the need for their integration. A number of practical steps aimed at creating an intelligent transport system in Minsk are proposed.

AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEMS FOR MANAGEMENT - MATERIAL FLOW CONTROL AND STOCK STATUS

The subject of the article is to define the current state of the information system, to describe the use of technology in practice and to understand the principle and benefits of smart logistics. To describe the operation of RFID technology and systems that are necessary for the effective operation of a comprehensive automatic identification system. The issue is to define the current state of information technology and create a project for automatic identification. The aim of the smart logistics project is the overall improvement of the production process, registration of parts and the overall highlighting of the company's reputation. Automatic identification systems are nowadays one of the fastest growing areas, whether information logistics or logistics as such. Manufacturing companies are trying to apply more and more elements of these systems to their production processes. Slovak companies, which have their production process based on international orders, are increasingly trying to optimize their production and thus approach Western countries in the field of automatic identification and registration of parts.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES TO PREVENT AND COUNTERACT CRIMES IN ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES SPHERE

The article describes the state of information technologies to prevent and counteract crimes in economic activities sphere and the perspectives of their development at the new historical stage in Ukraine S development. It points out a considerable role of fictitious economic entities in committing and concealing a wide array of criminal offenses. Taking into account the multiplicity of subjects in the investigation and trial, the article focuses on the need to integrate the systems of information and analytical support for the activity of oversight institutions making it a unified information space for national law enforcement, judicial and other bodies as well as officials, institutionally linked with economic entities in different situations and at various stages of the latter’s functioning starting from their establishment to the termination of their operation. In order to increase the efficiency of efforts aimed at preventing and counteracting crimes in economic activities sphere with the use of innovative techniques, the article argues in favor of creating a unified information space for oversight, law enforcement and judicial bodies, raising the level of informational interaction with the respective bodies of foreign states and international organizations.

No MPA Left Behind: A Review of Information Technology in the Master of Public Administration Curriculum

This report describes the current state of information technology (IT) in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) curriculum. Data were collected through a review of graduate program information contained on MPA program websites. Findings are that the majority of programs do not offer IT concentrations, core courses, or electives. While IT courses have been adopted in a limited capacity, there are opportunities to improve their adoption in order to satisfy public workforce demands. Such integration could be done using existing courses, promoting faculty skill development, or utilizing expertise found in other academic disciplines.

IT Knowledge: What Do Accounting Students Think They Know? Do You Know More Than I Do? An Exploratory Study

In recognition of the growing role of information technology (IT) in teaching accounting, we surveyed students at three Midwestern universities to determine their self-reported knowledge levels of 36 specific information technologies and difference in those IT knowledge levels between universities. Unlike other areas of accounting, there are no set standards for the IT curriculum for accounting education. Because of this, we expect to find significant differences in IT knowledge between these three universities. These findings are analyzed in light of authoritative guidance on appropriate accounting technology topics and research on the current status of IT in accounting education. We find accounting students have a low level of self-perceived IT knowledge. These students are not proficient in requisite technologies even after completing most of their undergraduate course work. We also find that there are significant differences in IT knowledge between the three universities in the study. These findings imply that we may be doing a disservice to accounting students and the accounting profession by not having a set IT curriculum. We conclude that it is time to assess IT knowledge and IT skill requirements necessary for accounting students and develop a standard IT curriculum in accounting education.

An Analysis of Information Technology on Data Processing by using Cobit Framework

Information technology and processes is inter connected, directing and controlling the company in achieving corporate goals through value-added and balancing the risks and benefits of information technology. This study is aimed to analyze the level of maturity (maturity level) on the data process and produced information technology recommendations that can be made as regards the management of IT to support the academic performance of the service to be better. Maturity level calculation was done by analyzing questionnaires on the state of information technology. The results of this study obtainable that the governance of information technology in data processing in Mataram ASM currently quite good. Current maturity value for the data processing has the value 2.69. This means that the company / organization already has a pattern of repeatedly done in managing the activities related to data management processes. Based on the data analysis, there is an effect on the current conditions and expected conditions can be taken solution or corrective actions to improve IT governance in the process of data management at ASM Mataram gradually.

Use of information technology and services by medical students: a case study

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine users’ attitude toward the implementation of information technology (IT) on the library of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS). The paper also aims to explore the hindrances and recommendations for IT-enabled services and find out the present status of automation in the library of SGPGIMS. Design/methodology/approach – A well-structured questionnaire was designed to collect the data for the present study. A thorough survey of the literature was done to examine the findings of the earlier relevant studies. Findings – The results of the survey provide the important information regarding the state-of-the-art of the users of mentioned library. It also finds the barriers due to which overall implication of IT is being delayed. The findings of the study bequeath measures to eradicate the barriers and get the fully automated medical library. Originality/value – The study will have important implications on policymakers, librarians and other higher authorities of SGPGIMS to improve the IT status of their library. It evaluates the users need and points out the measures which can improve the IT status of these libraries.

An HCI Spatial Layout and Planning Technique for Ship Curved Block Construction

According to the study on the information technology status of domestic shipbuilding industry, aiming as the demand of full-vision and effective management mode of curved block construction scheduling, the HCI (Human-computer Interaction) spatial layout and planning technique of curved block is proposed. Through Several technical points and rich-client application, the graphics vector modeling of curved block and the dual-dimension block layout and planning dynamic display technology are achieved, then on these bases an HCI scheduling management technology with graphics transformation as core is put forward. Finally, a prototype system was designed and developed to verify in practice.

The status of information technology in Iranian hospital libraries

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to compare the attitude of the managers of libraries located at Iran, Tehran and Shahid Beheshti Medical Sciences Universities' training hospitals, on the status of information technology (IT) in the mentioned libraries.Design/methodology/approachThis study employed a researcher‐made questionnaire. The managers of 40 hospital libraries of Iran, Tehran and Shahid Beheshti Universities formed the population of the research. To analyze the collected data, the statistical software SPSS (version 17) was used.FindingsResults showed that 12.5 per cent of Tehran, 15.6 per cent of Iran and 25 per cent of Shahid Beheshti Universities library managers agreed, to a very large extent, on the application and development of IT and its tools and 93.7 per cent of the managers from all three hospital libraries deemed the application of IT most necessary. The managers believed that the greatest advantage of IT is concerned with the reduction of human efforts (59.4 per cent), and 100 per cent of the managers acknowledged the need for further promotion of their skills in a wide variety of IT issues. In total, 16.1 per cent at Tehran, 12.9 per cent at Iran and 29 per cent at Shahid Beheshti University considerably approved of formal education for the promotion of their librarians' skills.Originality/valueThis study is a step towards acknowledging the contribution, status, and value of hospital libraries to the health sector by the library managers in theory and practice, in the shadow of considering their librarians as network experts, information media and system designers, and technology experts.

ABSTRACT The continuously evolving state of information technology and network infrastructure has created a thriving market for Managed Services (MS). More and more public sector and private companies operate in mixed-mode with internally deployed but externally hosted IT applications and resources. As a result, Managed Service Providers (MSPs) are assuming operational IT responsibility for the enterprise while the customer maintains management oversight. While this MS business model has many advantages, information security remains an inherent weakness. This has lead to the adoption of Private Clouds.

A hybrid GA-ant colony approach for exploring the relationship between IT and firm performance

Several studies were conducted during recent years on exploring the impact of Information Technology (IT) on the performance of the organisation. It is quite important to find a robust technique to identify the relationship between IT and organisational performance. A hybrid Genetic Algorithm (GA) Ant Colony Optimisation (ACO) approach is proposed for data clustering. This is because of the need for the application of metaheurisitic algorithms parallel to deterministic approaches. This study discusses and analyses data from 90 companies in a unique supply chain. The data includes 26 indices about IT and 11 indices about performance. The companies are classified with respect to the IT and performance indices (indicators). Then, IT clusters and performance clusters are mapped to one another and, consequently, the relationship between them is explored. In general, the result shows that there is a linear relationship between the IT status and performance of the companies, with few exceptions. This is the first study which integrates ant colony approach and GA for exploring the relationship between IT and firm performance.

Strategies for effective Web services adoption for dynamic e-businesses

Web services hold the promise for the so-called dynamic e-business movement. Currently, many organizations are either in the process of adopting Web services technology or seriously evaluating this option. One of the major concerns of senior management in this endeavor is the cost of adopting Web services. In this paper, a model is proposed to evaluate an organization's position in a technology adoption space by evaluating its current level of information technology (IT) sophistication. The model identifies critical factors necessary for the successful adoption of Web services technology along three dimensions—intranet, extranet, and Internet. A simulation experiment is conducted to find the most cost-effective strategy for allocating resources to pursue Web services adoption. Alternative strategies are evaluated under three scenarios with different combinations of significance levels (weights) and diffusion levels of the critical factors. Our results suggest that different strategies should be employed, while organizations consider their existing organizational IT status and focus area. This study provides useful guidelines for management to utilize available resources effectively in the process of adopting Web services technology.

Information Technology Usage: The Indian Experience

This paper attempts to understand the current state of Information Technology (IT) usage in select Indian organizations based on a questionnaire survey of business executives and IS staff of select IT-savvy organizations. In recent years, rapid changes and developments in the IT domain have created new leaders in the market place. Corporates, the world over, are leveraging on these developments through efficient supply chain, inventory control, and business intelligence applications for gaining an edge over their competitors. The Information System (IS) developed by these organizations is non-replicable thus providing the differentiation. Though Indian companies are aware of concepts such as supply chain, inventory control, etc., the actual implementation of such concepts is not that widespread. Also, the IS function in India is yet to establish itself as a mainstream business function. It is in this context that this paper makes an effort to understand the importance of IT as a key driver for business strategy and recommend to the industry to adopt some of the best practices prevailing in organizations worldwide. The analysis of the responses indicates that there is a discrepancy between the opinions of business executives and IS staff regarding the adequacy of the current IT systems. This situation can be remedied by implementing some of the suggestions which are as follows: The business executives and the IS staff should be located in the same place to integrate IT into the mainstream of business. Business intelligence application needs to be included in the portfolio of applications for business use. The Indian industry needs to be stepped up to the ‘informate’ stage as it is still in the ‘automate’ stage. CIOs have to play an important role by linking IT to business strategy. Information needs of the executives are increasing and necessary steps for imple- menting data warehousing and OLAP solutions need to be taken. Supporting IS should be put in place to facilitate decision-making. Key performance indicators (KPIs) should be clearly identified and incorporated into the IS to monitor the health of the organization. These initiatives are expected to have the following implications: tighter integration of IT with business strategy transformation from the ‘informate mode’ to the ‘transformate’ mode implementation of newer business intelligence tools development of information-based decision-making culture better understanding of organization's KPIs by the IS staff.

Undoubtedly, as the capabilities of electronic commerce improve, the agrifood supply chain will undergo further dramatic structural change. Most intriguing, the direction of structural change may reverse from closely aligned hierarchal relationships to a greater market orientation (Steinfield, Kraut, and Plummer). The primary reason is that Internet-based electronic commerce and electronic logistics have the potential to provide a competitive alternative to more formal supply chain relationships, such as tying agreements, contractual coordination, and vertical integration. The fast-paced advancements in information technology capabilities, the rise of the Internet, and the emergence of business-to-business (B2B) commerce makes this a highly fertile area for research in imperfect information and organizational structure. The papers by Kinsey and Salin directly address the status of information technology and its implications for supply chain management. Ward attempts to find evidence of structural changes to the supply chain (albeit not directly attributable to information technologies) by focusing on vertically related prices. Kinsey focuses her paper on an overview of electronic commerce systems and their effect on the manufacture-distributionwholesale-retail segment of the supply chain. Kinsey begins with an assessment of why electronic data interchange (EDI) systems mostly underperformed expectations. She also provides useful insights on how EDI al ered strategic investment in the supply chain. Beyond this historical perspective, Kinsey raises several key market issues related to the adoption of electronic information systems. This includes a discussion of the positive network externalities of information systems, the role of standardization in improving market efficiency, and lowering bar iers to entry and the potential uses of standardized information for cooperative planning, forecasting, and replenishment in the supply chain. Integrating information technology into university teaching: identifying the needs and providing the support

Examines the integration of information technology (IT) into Higher Education teaching in the UK. Looks at the current status of IT in universities and states that IT is only valuable if it is used in educationally sound ways. Highlights the barriers to the integration of IT and ways in which it could be more effectively adopted. States that the majority of staff need support if they are to use IT to its full potential and suggests ways of bringing this about. Concludes that this has to be a long‐term goal and that it requires many resources.

Information technology strategies for Africa's survival in the twenty‐first century: IT all pervasive

Abstract This paper discusses the status of information technology (IT), at national, organisational and individual levels, as we approach the twenty‐first century. The paper is written within the context of developing countries, particularly Africa, and identifies some of the common problems and constraints militating against effective IT adoption and utilisation in these countries, such as low IT literacy, inadequate human resource capacity for IT development, inadequate information and communication infrastructures, absence of action oriented national IT policies, poor IT delivery by vendors, lack of co‐operation among and within countries, etc. The paper asserts that in the twenty‐first century, IT will inevitably pervade all aspects of our lives and, as such, there is need to prepare ourselves at national, organisational and individual levels. Vietnam's IT‐2000 program: The challenges ahead

Abstract Information Technology (IT) has much to offer, ranging from improved efficiency in business operations and service delivery to growth in local economies and high‐technology based industries. In order to be more integrated into the world community, especially in the South East Asian region, the Government of Vietnam issued Resolution 49/CP in August, 1993. This resolution, which describes the status of IT in Vietnam, provides concepts and objectives for its development up to the year 2000. A national IT program, coordinated by the National Program on Information Technology Steering Committee (NPITSC), has since been developed to implement the goals set out in Resolution 49/CP. In this paper, we present an overview of the program, known as IT‐2000; we recognize the challenges associated with its implementation; and we identify what we believe to be the main priorities.
