Measuring sustainable transformation of small and medium‐sized enterprises using management systems standards

AbstractSmall‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) represent a significant number of industries in need of moving towards more sustainable development. A sustainability perspective on business activities is today crucial for SMEs to achieve a new level of competitiveness. Identifying which is a suitable set of sustainability indicators for an individual SME is a big challenge. The availability of so many methods and systems can leave SMEs reluctant to implement them in their small business. Therefore, this research aims to create a sustainability maturity model for SMEs to visualize goals and assess progress on their transformation journey. Progress is assessed by indicators, exemplified by indicators of the Global Reporting Initiative and the maturity is verified as stepwise growth along international management system standards. Using the developed model, it is possible to determine the SMEs' sustainability performance. The research has resulted in a stepwise classification of the organization's maturity is compiled into training and auditing material in different regions and sectors.

Maximising Synergy: The Benefits of a Joint Implementation of Knowledge Management and Artificial Intelligence System Standards

Implementing management systems in organisations of all types and sizes often raises the following question: “What benefits will this bring?” Initial resistance and criticism are common as potential challenges are identified during the implementation process. To address this, it is essential to highlight the advantages of these systems and engage stakeholders in supporting management efforts. While the planning, implementation, use, maintenance, auditing, and improvement of management systems are generally voluntary, certification is frequently driven by external factors, particularly customer demands. Employees also stand to gain significantly, with knowledge and information serving as valuable resources, especially for leveraging artificial intelligence. This article explores the management’s readiness to adopt and fully utilise two management systems based on international standards: the ISO 30401 Knowledge management system (KMS) and the ISO/IEC 42001 Artificial intelligence management system (AIMS). Through interviews, we assess the challenges and solutions associated with implementing these systems, whether planned or partially adopted. The findings illustrate the synergistic benefits of integrating the KMS and AIMS, demonstrating how their combined use can enhance Integrated Management Systems (IMSs). Such integration supports comprehensive planning, operation, and performance evaluation of processes and services while also promoting continuous improvement.

Subsidiary strategy and importance of standards: An institutional development of the integration-responsiveness framework

According to the integration–responsiveness framework, subsidiaries of multinational enterprises (MNEs) are assigned different strategic roles depending on the business environments they operate in. MNEs are classified as multinational, international, transnational, and global firms. Although standards are crucial for both export performance and Foreign Direct Investment, there is no scientific knowledge on how different types of standards interrelate with MNE strategies. Derived from the review of the limited literature on the role of different types of standards for different MNEs subsidiary strategies, we take an institutional theory perspective and position different types of standards within the integration–responsiveness framework. Based on data collected within the German Standardization Panel, cluster analysis is performed confirming that MNEs’ subsidiary strategies can be grouped according to the importance of formal and company standards. While conformity with national formal standards is necessary to meet pressure for local responsiveness, the application of international standards provides firms with access to global markets. Company standards and management system standards are important to transnational firms to achieve efficiency gains and improve bargaining positions. We compare the export intensity of MNEs with different subsidiary strategies to validate our clustering. In addition, different motives for applying different types of standards confirm our conceptual positioning.

Evaluating animal models comprising additive genetic and maternal effects on growth traits in German Angora rabbit

This investigation was carried out to estimate the genetic parameters for German Angora rabbits using most appropriate animal model comprising additive and maternal effects. The pedigree information and data on growth traits were collected from 5221 rabbits, which descended from 699 does and 294 bucks over a period of 21 yr (2001–2021) kept at Northern Temperate Regional Station, Garsa, Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), India. The average daily gain (ADG) and Kleiber ratio (KR) were calculated at different age intervals. Analyses were carried out by restricted maximum likelihood procedure fitting six animal models with various combinations of direct and maternal effects. The best model was evaluated on the basis of a likelihood ratio test. Analysis revealed that the model including both direct and maternal genetic effects along with permanent effect of the dam was most suitable for all traits except for body weight (BW) at 6th wk of age, ADG from 6th to 12th wk of age and KR associated to ADG from 12th to 18th wk of age. The direct heritability estimates from the best model were ranged from, 0.34±0.05 to 0.49±0.05 for BW; 0.19±0.04, to 0.46±0.06 for ADG and 0.21±0.04 to 0.41±0.05 for KR, respectively. Direct heritability estimates were overestimated when maternal effects were ignored. Maternal effects on BW declined from 0.49±0.04 at weaning to 0.06±0.03 at 12th wk of age and 0.09±0.04 at 18th wk of age. Correlations between direct and maternal effects ranged from −0.44±0.15 to−0.52±0.14 for body weights, indicating biological antagonism between these effects. Genetic correlations among various growth traits were positive and high, indicating scope for correlated response in later expressed traits. Analysis revealed that maternal additive influences were only important until weaning, whereas permanent environmental maternal influences were present in all growth traits considered in this study. The moderate estimates of heritability for growth traits and Kleiber ratio of rabbit in this study indicate that rates of genetic progress may be possible for these traits by selection under the standard management system.

Challenges and Facilitators in the Clinical Adoption of Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology

Objective: This study aims to analyze the challenges and facilitators in the clinical adoption of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technology. It proposes practical recommendations to provide evidence-based support and guidance for medical institutions at various levels in effectively integrating and advancing TCM technology. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological approach was employed to facilitate semi-structured interviews with doctors, nursing managers, and nurses. The collected data were subsequently analyzed using NVivo software. Results: In a study involving interviews with 17 doctors, nursing managers, and nurses, researchers identified three main themes and ten sub-themes. These included factors that promote the use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), such as the development of a comprehensive training curriculum, support from leadership, and strategies for integrating TCM technology. Conversely, hindering factors were also identified, including low awareness of TCM among some healthcare professionals and patients, as well as challenges related to medical costs and insurance. Recommendations for promoting TCM technology in Grade A hospitals include the creation of operation manuals, establishment of platforms for learning and communication, provision of dedicated spaces for teaching and discussion, and empowerment of nurses to assume leadership roles in clinical decision-making. Conclusion: The development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) appropriate technology projects in general hospitals in Northwest China faces both obstacles and promoting factors. It is essential to address these challenges through targeted training and the implementation of a standardized management system to enhance the capabilities of TCM nursing services. Additionally, establishing a distinctive platform for TCM nursing services, fostering collaboration and exchange across various regions, and encouraging the inheritance and innovation of TCM nursing characteristics are critical steps in advancing TCM practices.

School Heads' Experiences on the Conduct of Classroom Observation

This phenomenological study examines the experiences of school heads in the Panabo South District during classroom observations, an essential aspect of their instructional leadership. Using frameworks like the Results Performance and Management System and National Competency-Based Teacher Standards, the study explores how these school heads promote quality teaching, supervise learning, and coordinate curriculum implementation. Through Key Informant Interviews and Focus Group Discussions, the study explores how these school heads use classroom observations to improve teaching quality, promote professional development, and ensure effective curriculum implementation. Data were gathered through in-depth major Informant Interviews and Focus Group Discussions, then analyzed thematically to discover and interpret significant themes and patterns in the participants' experiences. The data show that classroom observations have a significant impact on improving teaching practices and student outcomes while also promoting teacher development. Despite problems such as balancing responsibility and supportive leadership, the study emphasizes the importance of observations in aligning teaching methods with curriculum objectives. Practical ideas are made to improve observation techniques and strengthen instructional leadership.

An Improved Thermal Management of Lithium Based Batteries Employing Genetic Algorithm Optimization

Lithium-based battery systems (LBS) are used in various applications, from the smallest electronic devices to power generation plants. LBS energy storage technology, which can offer high power and high energy density simultaneously, can respond to continuous energy needs and meet sudden power demands. The lifetime of LBSs, which are seen as a high-cost storage technology, depends on many parameters such as usage habits, temperature and charge rate. Since LBSs store energy electrochemically, they are seriously affected by temperature. High-temperature environments increase the thermal stress on the LBS and cause its chemical structure to deteriorate much faster. In addition, the fast charging feature of LBSs, which is presented as an advantage, increases the internal temperature of the cell and negatively affects the battery life. The proposed energy management approach ensures that the ambient temperature affects the charging speed of the battery and that the charging speed is adaptively updated continuously. So, the two parameters that harm battery health absorb each other, and the battery has a longer life. A new differential approach has been created for the proposed energy management system. The total amount of energy that can be withdrawn from the LBS is increased by 14.18% compared to the LBS controlled with the standard energy management system using the genetic algorithm optimized parameters. In this way, the LBS replacement period is extended, providing both cost benefits and environmentally friendly management by LBSs turning into chemical waste later.

Research Progress and Suggestions on Natural Gas Industry Technology Revolution in the Context of Energy Revolution

The energy revolution is an important driving force for the progress of productivity and civilization in human society. As a big country in global energy consumption and carbon emission, promoting the energy revolution is a strategic choice to ensure the sustainable development of China's energy industry, which is in line with China's national conditions of the construction of modern energy system. Based on the strategic background of the energy revolution, this paper combines China's natural gas production capacity and consumption demand in the context of national conditions, and from the perspective of technological revolution, we have sorted out the research results of relevant scholars on the natural gas industry and the technological development of the whole industry chain of “production, supply, storage and marketing”, and discussed the technological development of China's natural gas industry in the context of the energy revolution. The results of the study show that: (1) the innovative technology of natural gas industry is diversified, low-carbon and green development, but from the dimension of safety, stability and economy, the performance is relatively weak. (2) The overall synergistic development of the whole industrial chain technology is uneven, the gap between supply and demand is increasing, and the degree of information and intelligence is low. And then for the development of China's natural gas industry technology puts forward proposals: (1) to promote innovative natural gas technology breakthroughs, integration of new areas of technology, to achieve the dual objectives of low-carbon economic development and environmental protection; (2) to increase natural gas exploration and development efforts, breakthroughs in the integration of the digital transformation of traditional exploration technology, and continue to support the increase in storage and production; (3) to accelerate the upgrading of natural gas supply and demand, and the establishment of a synergistic, intelligent, diversified pipeline network system. (4) Boost the construction of gas storage system, pay attention to the standardized gas storage management system, and play the role of valley cutting and peak leveling; (5) Build a new comprehensive energy service system, and build a multi-species, multi-link intelligent technology integration to create a new service system.

Integrated management systems: a content and bibliometric analysis

PurposeSignificant interest in Integrated Management Systems (IMS), as a key area within ISO-related Management System Standards (MSS) literature, has been evident from both academia and industry over the past three decades. This study aims to map the evolution and current state of IMS research and propose possible directions for future studies.Design/methodology/approachA comprehensive content and bibliometric analysis of 846 documents from the Scopus database across the period 1995 to 2023 was conducted. This included performance analysis to track publication trends and identify key contributors, and content analysis to specify dominant research methodologies and the MSS most commonly integrated. Furthermore, science mapping techniques—such as co-authorship networks, keyword co-occurrence analysis, and bibliographic coupling—were utilized to outline the collaborative networks and the conceptual and intellectual structure of the field.FindingsThe study identifies three principal IMS research themes: the practical implementation of IMS, their role in promoting sustainability and social responsibility, and their impact on continuous performance improvement. It also highlights the field’s evolution and key research constituents—including influential works, prolific authors, leading academic institutions and countries, and top publishing journals. It further reveals that IMS research exhibits strong collaboration across authors and countries, and a rich methodological plurality, notably with a marked increase in empirical surveys in recent years. Additionally, it identifies the most frequently referenced MSS for integration, prominently featuring ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001.Originality/valueThis study is original in its application of a dual analytical approach—bibliometric and content analysis—to provide a holistic overview of IMS research. It offers new insights into the integration of diverse MSS and proposes several promising paths for future research. Among the most prominent are standardizing IMS fundamental specifications, conducting more empirical research with advanced methods to evaluate the effects of MSS integration, providing practical support for organizations in IMS implementation through tailored methodologies and tools, and exploring the potential of Industry 4.0 and 5.0 technologies to advance IMS practices.

The Effects of International Transportation Process on Food Safety and Quality in Export of Agricultural Products: Sample Application in an Export Oriented Organisation

Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine the effects of the international transportation process on food safety and quality, especially in agricultural products. One of the main ideas of the current research is to provide information and improvement areas on the general issues (without the risks of food safety) through international transport of agricultural products.. Theoretical Framework: Today, access to safe food, sustainability and traceability, contain great importance. Particularly, the control points to be carried out in the processes related to loading, transporting, transporting to the points of sale, unloading and storing, when necessary, from the collection of fields, greenhouses and similar production areas of crops covered by crop production should be determined correctly. It is necessary to carry out these controls according to the relevant food safety legislation and standards applied within the scope of food safety and customer demands, and to evaluate the results obtained for prevention and improvement purposes. Method: The methodology of the research is selected as a sample application on a specific case study. The selected company is an import-export company based in Hungary. During the identification and classification of process data, process parameters, process objectives and results, which come from Kropy Fruit Hungary Kft, for all control points in these processes, were evaluated. Results and Discussion: The results of this study are examined by analyzing the common requirements of the management system standards used for food safety purposes. As results, the used data in this study is the analysis results and the application of the relevant food safety standard requirements, the implementation of the legal requirements within the scope of the transportation processes, the identification and elimination of the elements threatening the food safety in the international transportation and storage processes. As an improvement, reduction of the losses at these stages and recommendations for similar organizations for safe food transport were discussed. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of the research are discussed and how the results can be practiced in real life organizations are indicated as recommendations. The risks and non-compliances arising from the employees of the organization were also examined and the effects of human factors on food safety in these processes and recommendations for improvement were developed. Originality/Value: The originality of the research comes from the fact that even though food safety and quality are popular topics in the specific research field; the effects of transportation process specifically in agricultural products and how the related regulations and standards can influence it positively were still questionnable. Therefore, the value of the current research is bringing a new questionnable area and its solution to the academic field, while touching to real life, practical examples and considering new improvement and innovative solutions.

Analysis on the Establishment of Standardized Management System for the Operation of Sluice Engineering

Baiyanghe Xiaocaohu Hub is an important water diversion hub project for industrial and agricultural water supply in Toksun County, Turpan City. After the project was reinforced in 2018, it plays an important role in local social stability and economic development. In recent years, in order to implement the new development concept, promote high-quality development, and improve the scientific level of water gate management, in accordance with the requirements of higher-level work deployment, the main responsibility of management has been implemented, and a comprehensive transformation has been carried out from five aspects of Xiaocaohu Water Conservancy Hub to improve the current situation of the project, standardize management behavior, and enhance management capabilities. This article summarizes the experience of standardization implementation, explores the formation of replicable and promotable management experience, and provides reference for promoting engineering standardization management work from point to area.

Management systems standards and shareholder wealth: unveiling the role of multiple certifications

Grounded on the shareholder theory, this study aims to relate the effects of management systems standards (MSSs) ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 on firm financial performance (FFP) in terms of return on equity (ROE) and dividend per share yield (DY). With a balanced data sample between 2010 and 2019 composed of more than 10,000 observations, this paper performs a two-step system generalised-method-of-moments model to find a causal relationship between single, double and triple certifications, and ROE and DY. The results find no impact of single certifications on FFP. However, double certifications that include ISO 9001 promote ROE. Furthermore, all multiple certifications are found to promote DY. It is then argued that operating with multiple MSSs promotes shareholder wealth. Thus, this research adds to the continuing academic discourse on the connection between MSS certifications and FFP by presenting findings from a worldwide longitudinal dataset. Additionally, it adopts a shareholder-focused perspective and introduces DY as a relevant FFP metric in this line of research.

Process security methods and measurement in the context of standard management systems

Abstract The main purpose of the paper is to identify ways to establish process security in the constantly changing risk and control environment and to introduce a new model. The research is based on a literature review of process security components. Qualitative content analysis was used to establish a linkage between the certified management systems and the level of process security. Elaborations have been conducted based on the survey data of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) and served as a basis for analysis of certification types and their sectoral division in the European Union (EU) member states. A new Balanced Scorecard has been developed to cover the security pillars in the context of standard management systems and serve as a framework for process security measurement. The research paper processes the state-of-the-art issue of process security, introduces components that help to establish process security, and establishes a linkage between the level of process security and certified management systems. An analysis was based on the ISO certification information related to different management system standards. Management systems were analysed in the context of process security and corresponding process performance measures. A brief walkthrough has been prepared to demonstrate the processes behind the underlying performance measures. A new Balanced Scorecard approach has been developed that maps and covers different security aspects retrieved from and linked to different management system standards. The new Balanced Scorecard based on different security aspects of entities can be leveraged by any organisation, regardless of its size or business profile.

Eco-Friendly Smart Car Parking Management System with Enhanced Sustainability

Efficient car parking management systems that minimize environmental impacts while maximizing user comfort are highly demanding for a future sustainable society. Using electric or gasoline vehicle-type information, emerging computation and communication technologies open the opportunity to provide practical solutions to achieve such goals. This paper proposes an eco-friendly smart parking management system that optimally allocates the incoming vehicles to reduce overall emissions in closed parking facilities while providing comfort incentives to the users of electric vehicles (EVs). Specifically, upon arrival of a car, the most suitable parking spot is determined by minimizing an adaptive objective function that indirectly reflects anticipatory operation for the overall performance maximization of the parking facility using electric or gasoline vehicle-type information. The adaptive objective function includes a trade-off factor that tunes driving and walking distances, relating emissions and comfort to treat incoming vehicles appropriately. The proposed system is simulated for managing a model car parking facility in a shopping complex in Japan, and the aspects related to fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and user comfort are evaluated and benchmarked with other standard parking management systems. The proposed system reduces CO2 emissions and fuel consumption and improves parking efficiency compared to the current parking management systems, while also prioritizing user comfort.

Detection and isolation of faults in a lithium-ion battery pack using a switched architecture of equivalent cell diagnosers

Lithium-ion battery packs are typically built as a series network of Parallel Cell Modules (PCM). A fault can occur within a specific cell of a PCM, in the sensors, or the numerous connection joints and bus conductors. This paper presents a method of detecting a single occurrence of various common faults in a Lithium-ion battery pack and isolating the fault to the faulty PCM, its connecting conductors, and joints, or to the sensor in the pack using a Diagnostic Automata of configurable Equivalent Cell Diagnosers. This is achieved by activating a sequence of diagnosers that generate residuals for various sub-networks of the pack and test hypotheses on them to search for the smallest sub-network and the associated sensors that contain the source of the fault. The sequence of activation of the diagnosers follows the state transition of the Diagnostic Automata triggered by the outcomes of the hypotheses tests. Once the faulty PCM sub-network is identified, the fault type is classified based on selected features of the residuals. For robust detection, events arising from hypothesis tests in the diagnosers and the classifiers are used to compute the probability of occurrence of a specific fault in a specific PCM. The performance of the diagnostic framework is tested offline with experimentally obtained data from an automotive battery pack. Finally, a Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation test demonstrates that the proposed method can be implemented on standard Battery Management System hardware to avoid extensive damage to the pack, enhance safety, and facilitate quick cell-level replacements to repair expensive Lithium-ion battery packs.

Integrating management systems in the energy sector: the case of the electricity industry in New Zealand

The New Zealand Electricity Engineers Association (EEA) asked for advice about development of a guide for a public safety management system (PSMS) for electricity distribution networks based on ISO45001 Occupational health and safety management systems. This would help eliminate overlap between legislation and standards while maintaining compliance with legal requirements. At Victoria University of Wellington we have been working on such an integrated approach and this article reports on the project and suggests how the results can be extended to include other areas of management while retaining the ability for appropriate elements to be audited and certified in accordance with systems required by legislation. The project reviewed an earlier report and literature review on PSMS for the Electricity Networks Association. Development of the legal requirements for a PSMS were reviewed and use of the International Standards Organization (ISO) framework for all management system standards proposed to encompass ISO45001 and similar standards. Relevant management content was incorporated in the high-level structure and key stakeholders contributed technical content. Use of the ISO Annex SL as a template enabled development of an integrated management system incorporating other management system standards, that would still support legal compliance while enabling elimination of duplication and clutter, and waste of resources at a time of technology change. The work was carried out in New Zealand (NZ) and may not apply in other countries with different legal requirements. Auditors may resist integrated management systems although this may not be a limitation if documentation is appropriately written. The electricity networks businesses in NZ may move to implementation of the PSMS guide but this will be an internal decision and results may take some years to declutter documentation and reduce overlapping audits under management system standards. Over the next decade the context of the New Zealand electricity industry will undergo major shifts with the need to adapt to increasing expectations for occupational health and safety and public safety, adaptation to climate change and accelerated implementation of new technologies. The electricity industry will need to apply its resources to those changes while avoiding duplicated efforts to implement multiple management systems. Developing an integrated management system that incorporates several management systems and public safety may aid protection of non-workers who cannot otherwise be “controlled” by a business.

Unveiling the hidden risks: Pesticide residues in aquaculture systems

The present study systematically assessed the presence and ecological risks of 79 pesticides in various aquaculture systems, namely pond aquaculture (PA), greenhouse aquaculture (GA), and raceway aquaculture (RA) at different aquaculture stages, along with evaluating the pesticide removal of four tailwater treatment systems. Sixteen herbicides and two fungicides were identified, with the total concentrations ranging from 8.33 ng/L to 3248.45 ng/L. The PA system demonstrated significantly higher concentrations (p < 0.05) and a wider range of pesticide residues compared to the GA and RA systems. Prometryn, simetryn, atrazine, and thifluzamide were found to be the predominant pesticides across all three aquaculture modes, suggesting their significance as pollutants that warrant monitoring. Additionally, the findings indicated that the early aquaculture stage exhibits the highest levels of pesticide concentration, underscoring the importance of heightened monitoring and regulatory interventions during this phase. Furthermore, among the four tailwater treatment systems analyzed, the recirculating tailwater treatment system exhibited the highest efficacy in pesticide removal. A comprehensive risk assessment revealed minimal ecological risks in both the aquaculture and tailwater environments. However, the pesticide mixtures present high risks to algae and low to medium risks to aquatic invertebrates and fish, particularly during the early stages of aquaculture. Simetryn and prometryn were identified as high-risk pesticides. Based on the prioritization index, simetryn, prometryn, diuron, and ametryn are recommended for prioritization in risk assessment. This study offers valuable data for pesticide control and serves as a reference for the establishment of a standardized pesticide monitoring and management system at various stages of aquaculture.

Occurrence and Risk Assessment of Antibiotics in Urban River–Wetland–Lake Systems in Southwest China

Antibiotics in the aquatic environment are of great concern as novel contaminants. In this study, we investigated the occurrence, distribution, potential sources, and risk assessment of antibiotics in an interconnected river–wetland–lake system. Thirty-three target antibiotics, including sulfonamides (SAs), macrolides (MLs), fluoroquinolones (FQs), tetracyclines (TCs), and chloramphenicol (CLs) belong to five common groups of antibiotics, were tested from water samples collected in the Panlong River, Xinghai Wetland, and Lake Dian (or Dianchi). Mass spectrophotometry was used to detect the target antibiotics, and the water quality parameters were measured in situ. We found four antibiotics, lincomycin (LIN), trimethoprim (TMP), sulfamethoxazole (SMX), and ofloxacin (OFL), with relatively low concentrations at the ng/L level, and detection rates among sample sites ranged from 42.3% to 76.9%, with maximum concentrations of 0.71 ng/L~5.53 ng/L. TMP was not detected in the Panlong River but appeared in the wetlands and Lake Dian. Midstream urban areas of the Panlong River showed the highest pollution among sites. Antibiotic concentrations were positively correlated with total nitrogen (TN) (p &lt; 0.05) and showed some negative correlation with pH, salinity, and DO. According to the risk assessment, antibiotics in water do not pose a threat to human health and aquatic ecosystems, but a potentially harmful combined effect cannot be excluded. Our research offers a geographical summary of the distribution of antibiotics in urban river, wetland, and lake ecosystems in the plateau (PWL), which is important for predicting the distribution characteristics of antibiotics in the plateau water environment and establishing a standardized antibiotic monitoring and management system for the government.

This research investigates the role of management system standards and multinational supply chains in achieving SDGs and targets, as well as whether these two paths produce varying degrees of effectiveness in achieving these goals. Questionnaire‐based research is conducted among 264 Indian manufacturing organisations based on their certification status and MNE supplier status. Comparison of the surveyed organisations is carried out on three parameters, namely, number of targets for each SDG, fulfilment levels of these targets and extension of established targets further in the supply chain. Analysis of variance and t‐test methods are used to compare survey responses. Results show that the role of management system standards and auditing frameworks used by multinational enterprises is statistically similar in achieving SDGs. The role of management system standards in achieving each of the SDGs has not yet been attempted so far by using the aforementioned factors. The comparison of management system standards' auditing approaches with the auditing frameworks of multinational enterprises also provides a novel addition. Both multinationals and their supplier organisations can save time, money and effort by following either of the two approaches and avoiding the duplicity that is currently prevalent in practice. The research has theoretical implications for sustainability, modernisation and globalisation theories.
