Grid-optimal energy community planning from a systems perspective

Energy communities (ECs) are a potential enabler for the socio-technical transition to carbon-neutrality. Their emergence depends on setting the right course across various dimensions: the legislative system, social psychology, the economic system, the technological system, and the natural ecosystem. A goal of this research is to identify success factors for energy community projects and their mutual influence in different stages of project development along these dimensions. We demonstrate that the project’s success in the motivation phase depends much more on the mutual influence of the economic system on social psychology compared to the project development or implementation and operation phase. This comprehensive analysis enables planners and policymakers to understand requirements and their role in the promotion of ECs. Another research goal is to understand the impact of different EC planning scenarios on both the EC profitability and the network. In a real network case study, we show that EC planning which considers network constraints can achieve high PV penetration while avoiding critical grid-stability issues. At the same time, the community yields almost the same benefits as in the EC cost-optimal planning scenario. The scenarios partially reflect the before-mentioned dimensions used to analyse and discuss EC planning from a holistic perspective, which reveals potential enablers and barriers for grid-friendly ECs.

DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN AUTONOMOUS SMART FLOWERPOT

This work is dedicated to the development and implementation of an autonomous smart flower pot. The development of an autonomous smart pot for a flower includes the development of a system with soil moisture and water level sensors, automatic watering and signaling through LEDs and a speaker. This work describes principles of operation, required components (sensors, electronic elements) and functionality of the system, which includes soil moisture and water level measurements, automatic watering system, LEDs and dynamic signaling, and also a set of fault situations when the battery is uncharged and the water quantity is low in the tank. The development process has been reviewed, first the development of the circuit on breadboards. After successful testing, you can proceed to soldering electronic components on a printed circuit board for the first stage of project development.

The Bali Cultural Center (PKB) Tourist Area in Klungkung is the focus of analysis in this article, which traces each stage of project development from conception to implementation. The planning phase is emphasized as an important foundation, where the vision of sustainability and cultural sustainability is deeply understood and integrated. Community involvement is a key element in maintaining the sustainability of this project, with active participation in decision making and project implementation. Local economic empowerment programs and the promotion of cultural activities are important points in strengthening the relationship between development and cultural preservation. Tourism impact management is a significant challenge, and this project creates a new paradigm by combining sustainability and culture as the main foundation. Sustainability strategies in managing the number of tourists and environmental preservation are priorities in maintaining cultural authenticity and environmental sustainability. Project life cycle analysis highlights the importance of innovation and adaptation to the latest technology in advancing tourism destinations. Through lessons learned from this project, this article offers in-depth insight into the importance of sustainability and culture in the development of tourism destinations, not only in Bali, but also throughout the world.

The article discusses the design of repair shops of agricultural enterprises taking into account safety requirements. The design of repair shops for maintenance and repair of agricultural machinery is a complex of numerous activities aimed at organizing uninterrupted, high-performance and safe work, which requires close attention during the design process to all elements of the technical process, compliance with the requirements of regulatory and technical documents both at the project development stage and at stage of implementation and operation of the facility. Price prediction of residential buildings using random forest and artificial neural network

ABSTRACT Inaccurate cost estimates significantly affect the ultimate cost of construction projects and reduce revenues. This study compares the accuracy of two algorithm models in estimating construction project prices during the early conceptual stage of project development. The construction prices of residential projects are forecasted in this study using two modeling methods, artificial neural networks (ANN) and random forest (RF), based on the project data from the actual projects. The datasets have been collected from 220 residential buildings implemented in various cities in Egypt. Python was used to build the model during the training and testing phases. To evaluate the performance of the models generated by each algorithm, five key statistical metrics were employed. The findings revealed that both ANN and RF managed to predict the price per meter square of the construction projects, attaining model score accuracies of 96.6% and 93.05%, respectively. The best training for RF was acquired with 110 trees and a maximum decision tree depth of 20. The outcomes of this research could assist stakeholders in the building sector estimate construction project costs during the conceptual stage, enabling more informed decisions by examining key cost drivers for building projects and utilizing appropriate machine learning techniques for analysis.

Optimisation of rock mass quality parameters for the initial geotechnical investigation of a vertical shaft: Gosowong Gold Mine Project Case Study - North Halmahera

This article presents a case study that highlights the importance of a thorough geotechnical assessment at an early stage of project development. Shaft ventilation is one of the critical elements in underground mines, providing oxygen and ensuring air quality for breathing, removing noxious gases from equipment and explosions, reducing the natural temperature of the rock, and more, so stability analysis is required for design and strategy prior to shaft opening. Through extensive field surveys, drilling and laboratory testing, the project team has gathered data to assess rock quality parameters, including rock strength, geological structure and hydrogeological characteristics. The McCracken and Stacey (MS) method is one such empirical approach to assist shaft development risk assessment. The results of this analysis allowed the identification of potentially unstable zones. It was concluded that 45% of the planned ventilation shafts have stability problems due to rock mass variations. The risk value of the shaft development plan was obtained with a high failure risk of 25%, a medium failure risk of 33% and a low failure risk of 42% based on the raise bore quality index (QR).

The universal concept is designed to connect the important problems of enterprise company management, all constituent components and provide a common focus on brand identity. This universal concept is also used by Georgian companies. After the completion of the project development and implementation stages in Georgian companies, the developer carries out a full audit of the enterprise's activities. The development of goods and services is one of the main points of the universal concept. Georgian companies with successful brands are constantly improving their products and services. This process takes many forms, both improving the product itself and accompanying services. Therefore, an important problem of company management is related to the adaptive system of correct management of the company. A universal concept will be created when the development of an innovative product begins, based on the creation of new ideas and concepts. The universal concept of product development is multifaceted and complex; And the closer the competing firms' products are, the more important it is to consider the entire range of values. Exploring Pre-Construction Activities in Infrastructure Projects That Can Benefit from Contractor Involvement

The pre-construction phase of public infrastructure projects is characterized by significant uncertainty as crucial decisions are made with limited information. This early stage of project development is influenced by a multitude of factors and input from various stakeholders. While early contractor involvement (ECI) offers potential benefits for both clients and projects, the timing and selection of tasks for involving the contractor are critical to achieving these benefits. This study seeks to identify key pre-construction activities in public infrastructure projects and pinpoint the activities that stand to gain the most from ECI. The research methodology involved conducting semi-structured interviews, organizing seven workshops, and conducting the literature and document studies. Through these efforts, the study identified a total of 20 pre-construction activities, among which 5 activities emerged as the most favorable candidates for ECI, while 5 others were deemed less suitable. The findings underscore a consensus that involving contractor expertise during the Brief Development sub-phase holds significant promise. Notably, activities associated with planning, environmental considerations, and technical aspects related to the scope clarification, were found to be highly amenable to ECI. Activities addressing uncertainty management received particular attention, with clients valuing contractors’ practical experience in risk assessment and mitigation. Additionally, contractors’ insights into planning, activity dependencies, and their contributions to health, safety, and environmental plans were highly regarded. However, activities, categorized under the more technical sub-phases of Concept Development and Detailed Engineering yielded mixed results, while those falling within the predominantly social and political domain and involving political processes and societal impact, were viewed as less suitable for early contractor involvement. These findings emphasize the need to adopt a systematic and consistent approach to pre-construction activities, highlighting that ECI should not be applied as a one-size-fits-all solution. The interview results somewhat contrast with the literature findings, which indicate that the early conceptual phase is most beneficial as the contractor impact is highest. To some extent, the client, contractor, and consultant still see their benefit and strategy before the good of the project.

Developing a project-controlling model in telecommunications companies

Subject. The article considers the investment project management system. Objectives. The aim is to develop a project-controlling model in telecommunications companies. Methods. The study employs logical and systems approaches, general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, and comparative analysis. Results. We developed a project-controlling model for companies operating in the telecommunications sector, including the description of key input data to the system; the main stages of project development and control. The paper presents recommendations on the development of a project management reporting system and a decision management subsystem. Conclusions. The advantages of the proposed project-controlling model include the ability to manage a balanced set of heterogeneous (financial and non-financial) goals that cover all project perspectives, from technology to finance; the use of risk management approaches and tools to identify project weaknesses, bottlenecks, and external threats; the formation of a system of benchmarks that enables to track the impact of emerging deviations at the level of current goals on the achievement of project’s strategic goal; the use of preventive control to predict deviations; periodic analysis of real possibilities of project implementation to prevent its inefficiency. The proposed model can be applied at telecommunications sector enterprises, and at enterprises of other industrial sectors characterized by high uncertainty of the external environment, a short product life cycle, and requiring regular investments.

Currently, against the background of sanctions from the West, Russia and China should strengthen cooperation in all sectors, especially in scientific research and resource development in the Arctic, as well as in combating problems associated with climate change and the use of the Northern Sea Route to enhance mutually beneficial trade activities between the two countries. The digitalization of Arctic culture should become a paramount branch of cooperation between universities in Russia and China, which cannot be done without considering and disseminating the scientific works of M.V. Lomonosov on the North and the Arctic. In China, Lomonosov was a completely understudied Russian scientist from all sides of his achievements in the sciences. The article gives an overview of M.V. Lomonosov’s contributions to the development of the Russian North and the Arctic, describes the processes of shaping his scientific interests in the study of Arctic spaces, analyzes his main theoretical positions on the phenomenon of Arctic lights and the natural conditions for the development of Arctic spaces, reveals his historical views on the role and importance of mastering the Arctic for the language possession of small peoples in this region against the background of the spread of world civilization and culture, which still has not lost its importance. Moreover, the relevance of creating an electronic database “Digital Lomonosov” in Russian and Chinese in parallel for the development of modern Lomonosov’s science and translation studies on the scientific achievements of Lomonosov in China is considered, the main concept of the Project development and specific stages of digitalization of Lomonosov’s works in two languages by joint efforts of scientists from NArFU and CHU are analyzed.

Living labs contributions to smart cities from a quadruple-helix perspective

This paper explores living labs' contributions to smart cities from a quadruple-helix perspective. The selected exploratory case studies (Living Lab Florianópolis, Living Lab of the Itaipu Technological Park and Porto Digital) depict an institutional context characterized by a low interaction between the quadruple-helix components. The data were obtained through document analysis and interviews with living lab organizers and participants. The results suggest living labs can contribute by a) selecting the most promising projects to promote, b) connecting several agents and sharing informational through collaborative practices and events, c) facilitating mediation between participants in living labs and government agencies, universities and local companies to conduct tests, and d) inserting the fourth helix as a tester but not as a co-creator. These findings explain the participation of quadruple-helix components in the stages of project selection, development, and testing developing living labs. Finally, this article contradicts the predominant notion that living labs remain based on user-oriented innovation processes, purporting a producer-oriented trajectory.

Planning and project management is one of the main tools of financial management and budgeting. Organizational actions and practical steps to analyze financing models in the financial management system are strategic tasks for the development of the project and, in general, the business of an economic entity. Effective forecasting and management of investments and cash flows in the financial management system is the key to successful project co-financing. One of the main areas of planning in the financial management system is financial planning and modeling. Project management at the planning stage in the financial management system is time-consuming and significant. Methods of financial management in project management are aimed at studying the development of the project using its own funds and through co-financing (attracted investments). Financial management at the stage of project planning and development requires financial modeling of current tasks. Budgeting in the financial management system carries the tasks of budget management. Budgetary management is a detailed study of costs and investments, managing them, using a set of traditional methods and management procedures. It is concluded that in the system of financial management - planning, design and business management are vital for the implementation of both current activities and the development of new projects.

Integrated team approach to decommissioning Environment Plan development

The offshore oil and gas industry is facing a significant transition period in the coming decades due to the evolving energy market and aging oil and gas infrastructure. Industry has over 1000 offshore wells to plug and abandon, 57 fixed facilities and over 8000 km of subsea lines to decommission over the coming decades. Most of this significant portfolio is regulated by NOPSEMA (National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority) with the expectation that decommissioning involves the full removal of equipment as per Section 572 of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (Cth) (OPGGS Act). However, other options may be considered if the titleholder can demonstrate that an alternative decommissioning approach delivers equal or better environmental and safety outcomes compared to complete removal. Integration of environment and engineering functions primarily occurs during the process of developing an Environment Plan (EP) and, specifically, the process of identifying environmental hazards (Environmental Hazards Identification, ENVID) and mitigation measures. This paper proposes that improved stakeholder, regulatory, cost and environmental outcomes could be achieved through an earlier integrated approach to planning decommissioning activities. Specifically, co-designing an approach to decommissioning at the earliest stages would inform, for example, approvals strategy and equipment selection. This would ultimately result in improved outcomes without the application of mitigating control measures. The paper will discuss some of the current challenges and outline the value of early identification and understanding of key environmental values and sensitivities to ensure site-specific information is considered during planning stages, later streamlining EP development. A multi-disciplinary decommissioning team in the early stages of project development enhances problem-solving capabilities and ultimately improves environmental and safety outcomes.

Evaluating and Incorporating Utility Coordination Practices into the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Project Development Process

Utility relocations have been identified as one of the leading causes of delays in transportation projects. Over time, national perceptions about how state transportation agencies (STAs) should work with utility companies (UCs) have changed. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), like other STAs, faces many challenges related to utility work. This paper presents the findings of a research project funded by KYTC, which aimed to evaluate the current KYTC utility coordination process to identify opportunities for improvement and propose a new approach for enhancing the alignment of this process and the highway design process. Researchers crafted this new approach based on the findings of a literature review, an evaluation of the current alignment between the utility coordination and highway design processes, and experiences and lessons learned from other STAs. This approach was developed iteratively in consultation with the project’s Study Advisory Committee. Research findings suggest viewing utility coordination as an opportunity to partner with UCs. In addition, the early identification of potential utility conflicts and minimizing utility-related project risks during the early stages of project development by avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating all utility conflicts when feasible are encouraged. Project findings were used to develop a guidance document to assist the implementation of a new approach and an associated Utility Coordination Training Program. This guidance document includes suggestions for identifying, managing, and mitigating utility-related risks using utility conflict management, provides information on the strategic use of subsurface utility engineering, and offers recommendations for managing consultant-led utility coordination.

Integration of the green and lean principles for more sustainable development: A case study

To advance sustainable development techniques, this study examines how lean construction and green building might work together at all stages of project development. The construction sector is now dealing with a variety of issues, including cost overruns, completion delays, low productivity, and subpar quality. These underlying issues must be addressed to bring about a general change and improvement in the existing state of the construction industry. Only a lean construction and lean project management strategy can address the demand for transformation. The 4 R's—Reduce; Recycle, Reuse, and Regulate—are causing people to become concerned. Eliminating the “idea of waste” and fostering a healthy environment via design and management have recently emerged as major objectives, bringing sustainability in building into focus. Through case studies, the attempt to link green and lean ideas is implemented in a successful way. The report would highlight the close ties between the lean and green ideologies, both of which aim to cut down on waste. It would investigate how a green and sustainable built environment is produced in the building sectors.

Early Highway Construction Cost Estimation: Selection of Key Cost Drivers

Cost estimates in the early stages of project development are essential for making the right decisions, but they are a huge challenge and risk for owners and potential contractors due to limited information about the characteristics of a future highway project. Whereas previous studies were mainly focused on achieving the highest possible estimation accuracy, this paper aims to propose cost-estimation models that can provide satisfactory accuracy with the least possible effort and to compare the perspectives of owners and contractors as the key stakeholders on projects. To determine cost drivers (CDs) that have a high influence on highway-construction costs and require low effort for their establishment, a questionnaire survey was conducted. Based on the key stakeholders’ perceptions and collected data set, cost-estimation models were developed using multiple-regression analysis, artificial neural networks, and XGBoost. The results show that reasonable cost-estimation accuracy can be achieved with relatively low effort for three CDs for the owners’ perspective and five CDs for the contractors’ perspective. Additional inclusion of input CDs in models does not necessarily imply an increase in accuracy. Also, the questionnaire results show that owners are more concerned about environmental issues, whereas contractors are more concerned about the possible changes in resource prices (especially after recent high increases caused by COVID-19 and the Russia–Ukraine war). These findings can help owners and potential contractors in intelligent decision-making in the early stages of future highway-construction projects.

Virtual Light Sensing Technology for Fast Calculation of Daylight Autonomy Metrics.

Virtual sensing technology uses mathematical calculations instead of natural measurements when the latter are too difficult or expensive. Nowadays, application of virtual light sensing technology becomes almost mandatory for daylight analysis at the stage of architectural project development. Daylight Autonomy metrics should be calculated multiple times during the project. A properly designed building can reduce the necessity of artificial lighting, thus saving energy. There are two main daylight performance metrics: Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA) and Annual Sunlight Exposure (ASE). To obtain their values, we have to simulate global illumination for every hour of the year. A light simulation method should therefore be as efficient as possible for processing complex building models. In this paper we present a method for fast calculation of Daylight Autonomy metrics, allowing them to be calculated within a reasonable timescale. We compared our method with straightforward calculations and other existing solutions. This comparison demonstrates good agreement; this proves sufficient accuracy and higher efficiency of the method. Our method also contains an original algorithm for the automatic setting of the sensing area. The sDA metric is calculated considering blinds control, which should open or close them depending on overexposure to direct sunlight. Thus, we developed an optimization procedure to determine the blinds configuration at any time.

CONTINUOUS SOFTWARE DELIVERY FOR WEB PROJECTS BASED ON MICROSERVICES

Continuous Integration, Code delivery, and Deployment is a software development automation methodology representingone of the key components of DevOps (an acronym for development & operations). The research object of the present work is a system of continuous delivery and deployment of software projects (SP). In the article the scheme of software infrastructure architecture with continuous integration and code delivery based on SOLID principles is analyzed. A special methodology has been developed to ensure the secure transmission of transport data with encryption and digital signature of documents, which is focused on the projects of the system users. A software project for continuous delivery and deployment of application versions with an auto-configuration system is presented. Project development stages are described in detail. The initial system output is provided.

Pull Request Decisions Explained: An Empirical Overview

<italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Context</i> : The pull-based development model is widely used in open source projects, leading to the emergence of trends in distributed software development. One aspect that has garnered significant attention concerning pull request decisions is the identification of explanatory factors. <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Objective</i> : This study builds on a decade of research on pull request decisions and provides further insights. We empirically investigate how factors influence pull request decisions and the scenarios that change the influence of such factors. <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Method</i> : We identify factors influencing pull request decisions on GitHub through a systematic literature review and infer them by mining archival data. We collect a total of 3,347,937 pull requests with 95 features from 11,230 diverse projects on GitHub. Using these data, we explore the relations among the factors and build mixed effects logistic regression models to empirically explain pull request decisions. <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Results</i> : Our study shows that a small number of factors explain pull request decisions, with that concerning whether the integrator is the same as or different from the submitter being the most important factor. We also note that the influence of factors on pull request decisions change with a change in context; e.g., the area hotness of pull request is important only in the early stage of project development, however it becomes unimportant for pull request decisions as projects become mature.
