Multi-Objective Optimal Power Flow Analysis Incorporating Renewable Energy Sources and FACTS Devices Using Non-Dominated Sorting Kepler Optimization Algorithm

In the rapidly evolving landscape of electrical power systems, optimal power flow (OPF) has become a key factor for efficient energy management, especially with the expanding integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) and Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices. These elements introduce significant challenges in managing OPF in power grids. Their inherent variability and complexity demand advanced optimization methods to determine the optimal settings that maintain efficient and stable power system operation. This paper introduces a multi-objective version of the Kepler optimization algorithm (KOA) based on the non-dominated sorting (NS) principle referred to as NSKOA to deal with the optimal power flow (OPF) optimization in the IEEE 57-bus power system. The methodology incorporates RES integration alongside multiple types of FACTS devices. The model offers flexibility in determining the size and optimal location of the static var compensator (SVC) and thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC), considering the associated investment costs. Further enhancements were observed when combining the integration of FACTS devices and RESs to the network, achieving a reduction of 6.49% of power production cost and 1.31% from the total cost when considering their investment cost. Moreover, there is a reduction of 9.05% in real power losses (RPLs) and 69.5% in voltage deviations (TVD), while enhancing the voltage stability index (VSI) by approximately 26.80%. In addition to network performance improvement, emissions are reduced by 22.76%. Through extensive simulations and comparative analyses, the findings illustrate that the proposed approach effectively enhances system performance across a variety of operational conditions. The results underscore the significance of employing advanced techniques in modern power systems enhance overall grid resilience and stability.

Consensus-Based Power System State Estimation Algorithm Under Collaborative Attack.

Due to its vulnerability to a variety of cyber attacks, research on cyber security for power systems has become especially crucial. In order to maintain the safe and stable operation of power systems, it is worthwhile to gain insight into the complex characteristics and behaviors of cyber attacks from the attacker's perspective. The consensus-based distributed state estimation problem is investigated for power systems subject to collaborative attacks. In order to describe such attack behaviors, the denial of service (DoS) attack model for hybrid remote terminal unit (RTU) and phasor measurement unit (PMU) measurements, and the false data injection (FDI) attack model for neighboring estimation information, are constructed. By integrating these two types of attack models, a different consensus-based distributed estimator is designed to accurately estimate the state of the power system under collaborative attacks. Then, through Lyapunov stability analysis theory, a sufficient condition is provided to ensure that the proposed distributed estimator is stable, and a suitable consensus gain matrix is devised. Finally, to confirm the viability and efficacy of the suggested algorithm, a simulation experiment on an IEEE benchmark 14-bus power system is carried out.

EMB-YOLO: A Lightweight Object Detection Algorithm for Isolation Switch State Detection

In power inspection, it is crucial to accurately and regularly monitor the status of isolation switches to ensure the stable operation of power systems. However, current methods for detecting the open and closed states of isolation switches based on image recognition still suffer from low accuracy and high edge deployment costs. In this paper, we propose a lightweight object detection model, EMB-YOLO, to address this challenge. Firstly, we propose an efficient mobile inverted bottleneck convolution (EMBC) module for the backbone network. This module is designed with a lightweight structure, aimed at reducing the computational complexity and parameter count, thereby optimizing the model’s computational efficiency. Furthermore, an ELA attention mechanism is used in the EMBC module to enhance the extraction of horizontal and vertical isolation switch features in complex environments. Finally, we proposed an efficient-RepGDFPN fusion network. This network integrates feature maps from different levels to detect isolation switches at multiple scales in monitoring scenarios. An isolation switch dataset was self-built to evaluate the performance of the proposed EMB-YOLO. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method achieved superior detection performance on our self-built dataset, with a mean average precision (mAP) of 87.2%, while maintaining a computational cost of only 6.5×109 FLOPs and a parameter size of just 2.8×106 bytes.

A hybrid load forecasting system based on data augmentation and ensemble learning under limited feature availability

Accurate power load forecasting is an important part of power system operation planning, it can ensure the stable operation of power systems and improve the efficiency of energy utilization. The power load is affected by many factors including temperature, season, population density, and so on, however due to privacy protection and other reasons, it is difficult to obtain some characteristic information that affects the load. The lack of characteristic data will reduce the accuracy of load forecasting and the generalization ability. To solve it, a new hybrid load forecasting framework is proposed, which is composed of two subsystems: a data preprocessing system and a high-precision forecasting system. Based on the load sequence itself, subsystem 1 obtains the trend data and denoising data by variational mode decomposition method, obtains the indicator variable for the weekend according to the one-hot encoding, and also introduces the electricity price data, thus obtaining the 4-dimensional extended data. Subsystem 2 constructs a hybrid prediction model by synthesizing various models, including deep learning and machine learning models, to forecast the expanded data. Finally, the multi-objective JAYA algorithm based on tent chaotic mapping and cross-perturbation strategy is used to ensemble the prediction results of the sub-models. To verify the superiority of the proposed forecasting framework, we conducted experiments using four sets of load data from New South Wales, Australia. The experimental results show that the average absolute percentage error of the hybrid framework on the four data sets are MAPEMarch=0.8070, MAPEJune=0.8296, MAPESeptember=0.7238 and MAPEDecember=0.7709, which are significantly lower than other models and provide a basis for power system scheduling management.

Wind farm cluster power prediction based on graph deviation attention network with learnable graph structure and dynamic error correction during load peak and valley periods

The power prediction accuracy of wind farm cluster (WFC) seriously affects its consumption and the safe and stable operation of power system. The fluctuation of power between wind farms (WFs) significantly affects the wind power ultra-short-term prediction (WPUP) accuracy of WFC. In this regard, this paper proposes a graph deviation attention network (GDAN) considering improved clustering distance and learnable graph structure (LGS) for predicting and correcting the wind power of WFC. And used a weighted distance function combining sequence convergence smoothing effect and correlation to dynamically divide the WFC, and to learn and construct the graph structure. Proposed the GDAN with LGS to mine the convergence correlation of WF sub-clusters and establish power prediction model. Considering the characteristics of load peak and valley periods (LPVP), introduced a power correction coefficient to reduce the error, and used the successive variational mode decomposition (SVMD) to extract its key components to achieve power prediction and correction. The proposed method is applied to the WFC in Western Inner Mongolia, China. Compared with the comparison model before correction, the RMSE, MAE and MAPE are reduced by 4.27 %, 3.55 % and 17.92 % respectively, and the R2 and Pr are increased by 11.87 % and 9.88 % respectively.

Edge Computing Method for False Data Injection Attack Detection in Electromechanical Transient Simulation Grid

Because edge computing is close to the terminal, it has significant advantages of low latency and high-security realtime control and has huge application prospects in the current popular smart grid. Because its edge side is close to the terminal, it can also effectively avoid the risk of information leakage when control instructions or communication data are transmitted to remote cloud center servers over a long distance. However, edge devices have a greater probability of encountering false data injection attacks (FDIAs) from illegal terminals because of their proximity to terminals. The transient electromechanical situation of the smart grid due to FDIAs is analyzed under edge computing. Due to the characteristics that the status values of grid nodes have temporal correlation before and after and spatial correlation between nodes, the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for training time series data is selected to predict the status values of grid nodes in advance. The FDIA detection method is also proposed based on the LSTM network. By calculating the predicted value at each historical moment and the root means square error (RMSE) of the system state estimation at that moment, the detection threshold of the scheme is calculated through the cumulative distribution function of RMSE. Simulation experiments are conducted on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)-14 node standard system. The detection rate is as high as 99.71%, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed FDIA detection scheme. This paper studies the security threat of FDIA to the stable power system operation and provides theoretical analysis and practical reference for other power grid security protection strategies.

A high-frequency reduced-order model for parameters optimization of AC/DC distribution systems considering random disturbances

Accompanying the rapid development of AC/DC distribution systems, along with the random disturbances introduced by a significant number of distributed generations and loads, the difficulty of system stability analysis has increased. The phenomenon of DC bus voltage instability has become severe, affecting the safe and stable operation of power systems. This paper focuses on the research of multi-terminal AC/DC distribution systems. A reduced-order method for multi-terminal distribution systems is proposed. Through parameter equivalent transformation, the system model is simplified while maintaining its dynamic characteristics. Parameter sensitivity analysis is utilized to identify key parameters influencing the system’s dynamic behavior, achieving an analytical expression of the system’s dynamic characteristics. And stability domain analysis is applied to delineate the variations in system dynamic behavior and responses to random disturbances under different parameter settings. Then a multi-parameter optimization method is designed to enhance system stability while achieving fast system response. Finally, theoretical analysis is validated through software simulation and hardware-in-the-loop experiments.

Short-Term Electrical Load Forecasting Based on IDBO-PTCN-GRU Model

Accurate electrical load forecasting is crucial for the stable operation of power systems. However, existing forecasting models face limitations when handling multidimensional features and feature interactions. Additionally, traditional metaheuristic algorithms tend to become trapped in local optima during the optimization process, negatively impacting model performance and prediction accuracy. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a short-term electrical load forecasting method based on a parallel Temporal Convolutional Network–Gated Recurrent Unit (PTCN-GRU) model, optimized by an improved Dung Beetle Optimization algorithm (IDBO). This method employs a parallel TCN structure, using TCNs with different kernel sizes to extract and integrate multi-scale temporal features, thereby overcoming the limitations of traditional TCNs in processing multidimensional input data. Furthermore, this paper enhances the optimization performance and global search capability of the traditional Dung Beetle Optimization algorithm through several key improvements. Firstly, Latin hypercube sampling is introduced to increase the diversity of the initial population. Next, the Golden Sine Algorithm is integrated to refine the search behavior. Finally, a Cauchy–Gaussian mutation strategy is incorporated in the later stages of iteration to further strengthen the global search capability. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed IDBO-PTCN-GRU model significantly outperforms comparison models across all evaluation metrics. Specifically, the mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and root mean square error (RMSE) were reduced by 15.01%, 14.44%, and 14.42%, respectively, while the coefficient of determination (R2) increased by 2.13%. This research provides a novel approach to enhancing the accuracy of electrical load forecasting.

CEEMDAN-RIME–Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory Short-Term Wind Speed Prediction for Wind Farms Incorporating Multi-Head Self-Attention Mechanism

Accurate wind speed prediction is extremely critical to the stable operation of power systems. To enhance the prediction accuracy, we propose a new approach that integrates bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) with fully adaptive noise ensemble empirical modal decomposition (CEEMDAN), the RIME optimization algorithm (RIME), and a multi-head self-attention mechanism (MHSA). First, the historical data of wind farms are decomposed via CEEMDAN to extract the change patterns and features on different time scales, and different subsequences are obtained. Then, the parameters of the BiLSTM model are optimized using the frost ice optimization algorithm, and each subsequence is input into the neural network model containing the MHSA for prediction. Finally, the predicted values of each component are weighted and reconstructed to obtain the predicted values of wind speed time series. According to the experimental results, the method can predict the short-term wind speeds of wind farms more accurately. We verified the effectiveness of the method by comparing it with different models.

Research on Optimal Scheduling Strategy of Differentiated Resource Microgrid with Carbon Trading Mechanism Considering Uncertainty of Wind Power and Photovoltaic

Accelerating the green transformation of the power system is the inevitable path of the energy revolution; the increasing installed capacity of new energy and the penetration rate of electricity, uncertainty regarding new energy output, and the rising proportion of distributed power supply access have led to the threat against the safe and stable operation of the current power system. With the increasing uncertainty on both sides of power supply and demand, the microgrid (MG) is needed to effectually aggregate, coordinate, and optimize resources, such as adjustable resources, distributed power supply, and distributed energy storage in a certain area on the demand side. Therefore, in this paper, the uncertainty of wind power and PV is first dealt with by Latin hypercube sampling (LHS). Secondly, differentiated resources in the MG region can be divided into adjustable resources, distributed power supply, and energy storage. Adjustable resources are classified according to demand response characteristics. At the same time, the MG operating cost and carbon trading mechanism (CTM) are comprehensively considered. Finally, a low-carbon economy optimal scheduling strategy with the lowest total cost as the optimization goal is formed. Then, in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, three different scenarios are established for comparison. The total operating cost of the proposed algorithm is reduced by about 30%, and the total amount of carbon trading in 24 h can reach nearly 600 kg, bringing economic and social benefits to the MG.

Model‐free adaptive load frequency control for power systems with wind penetration under deregulation environment

AbstractWith the gradual deregulation of the power system by the power department, the power system has developed into a large‐scale and multiregional control system. Because of the power system internal complexity enhancing, the stable operation of power system becomes increasingly difficult. This paper analyzes the load frequency control problem of multiregional interconnected power system with wind energy. This study designs an improved model‐free adaptive control algorithm based on I/O data. It avoids model establishment of the multiregional power system. It also effectively solves the problem of frequency stability control under the influence of load change, introducing the generation participation matrix to simulate bilateral contracts under the power market. The dynamic evolution relationship of the system with the generation participation matrix is established, taking a three‐regional power system with wind energy as an example. Frequency fluctuations in all three regions are between . Convergence times of frequency deviation are all within 30 s, much less than the response time of load frequency control. The simulation results further demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, comparing the control algorithm proposed in this paper with other algorithms, which proves that the proposed algorithm has good control performance.

Economic Load Forecasting based on IPSO-VMD-DBiLSTM Network

Accurate short-term load forecasting is vital for the stable operation of power systems. Given the highly volatile and nonlinear nature of load sequences, we propose a novel Deep Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (DBiLSTM) network incorporating Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) and an attention mechanism to address the aforementioned challenges. In this study, the model's hyperparameters are optimized using an Improved Particle Swarm Optimization (IPSO) technique. Notably, IPSO employs a nonlinearly decreasing inertia weight to overcome the drawbacks of premature convergence and local optima.

Medium-term wind power prediction based on LSTM classification aided Pelt-Neuralprophet HHO-SVM

The precision of wind power prediction plays a vital role in ensuring the stable operation of wind power systems. To elevate this accuracy and enhance the real-time performance, this paper proposes a hybrid Support Vector Machine (SVM) method, with using the Long Short-Term Memory Network (LSTM) to categorize the wind data based on the statistical features and feedback to the trained SVM model. The hybrid Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO) SVM method adopts the Neuralprophet algorithm to model the seasonality of wind power data and then uses the Pelt technique to the LSTM aided Pelt-Neuralprophet HHO-SVM (i.e., PN-HHO-SVM) scheme, which can utilize the seasonal fluctuations inherent in wind power data. The Neuralprophet algorithm is employed to formulate the seasonal regression model of wind power data. Then, the Pelt technique is used to process the modeled data to locate the change points, so as to classify the time series with similar statistical properties. Furthermore, to tune the SVM hyperparameters for each identified cluster, the HHO algorithm is adopted. Consequently, the LSTM aided PN-HHO-SVM is achieved. The real data sourced from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) are used for validation case studies, demonstrating the superiorities of the prediction performance, especially in distinguishing and discriminating the seasonal dynamics of wind power data characters.

Prediction of long-term photovoltaic power generation in the context of climate change

Accurate long-term prediction of power generation in photovoltaic (PV) power stations is crucial for preparing generation plans and future planning. Quantitative prediction of future power generation from PV stations not only contributes to the stable operation of the local power system but also assists managers in formulating regional energy policies to promote renewable energy consumption. We utilized the NEX-GDDP-CMIP6 high-resolution climate dataset and employed the Vine Copula method for post-downscaling. This approach enabled high-resolution forecasts of key meteorological factors under different shared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs) scenarios (SSP245 and SSP585) for a PV power station in Yunnan, China. Additionally, we developed the KM-PSO-SVR power generation prediction model, which enables future accurate long-term PV power generation prediction. The results show that the Vine Copula multi-model ensemble downscaling model can effectively simulate the changes in key meteorological factors in the PV power station area. The KM-PSO-SVR model exhibited good simulation performance, with a mean absolute error of 0.843, root mean square error of 1.136, and correlation coefficient of 0.874 during the validation period. The results indicate that during the decade spanning from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2034, radiation and wind speed will be decrease, while the temperature is expected to increase. In the SSP245 scenario, there is a 1.585 % increase in the average annual power generation during the future carbon peaking period (2025–2034). However, the SSP585 scenario, representing higher future emissions, shows a lower increase of 1.479 %.

Fault analysis of oil-immersed transformer based on digital twin technology

Oil-immersed transformer is one of the important equipment to support the safe and stable operation of power system. At the same time, in the process of transformer operation, transformer failure is inevitable, this kind of failure belongs to multiple latent faults, which seriously endangers the safe operation of the transformer. Therefore, the maintenance of the transformer has played a crucial role. A fault detection method based on digital twin model is proposed to solve the problem that the internal dynamic characteristics of oil-immersed transformer are difficult to extract, and the fault detection error is large due to noise interference. The dynamic model of oil-immersed transformer is constructed, the main cause of failure is analysed, the failure time of internal insulator is taken as a linear index, and the linear correlation between failure probability and failure time is solved by Weibull distribution function. The fitting function between transformer fault residence time, operating days and fault probability variance is established, and the fitting value obtained is used as the initial data reference of the fault detection model. The digital twin model is used to establish the dynamic fault probability calculation function, and the on-site data is substituted to calculate the fault detection threshold, and then the data is compared to complete the detection.

A Novel Contact Resistance Model for the Spherical–Planar Joint Interface Based on Three Dimensional Fractal Theory

In order to obtain the contact resistance of relay contacts more accurately, a novel contact resistance model for the spherical–planar joint interface is constructed based on the three-dimensional fractal theory. In this model, three-dimensional fractal theory is adopted to generate a rough surface at microscopic scale. Then, using contact mechanics theory, the deformation mechanism of asperities on rough surfaces is explored. Combined with the distribution of asperities, a contact resistance model for the planar joint interface is established. Furthermore, by introducing the surface contact coefficient, cross-scale coupling between the macro-geometric configuration and micro-surface topography is achieved, and a contact resistance model for the spherical–planar joint interface is constructed. After that, experiments are conducted to verify the accuracy of the proposed model, and the maximum relative error of the proposed model is 8.44%. Ultimately, combining numerical simulation analysis, the patterns of variation in contact resistance influenced by factors such as macroscopic configuration and microscopic topography are discussed, thereby revealing the influence mechanism of the contact resistance for the spherical–planar joint interface. The proposed model provides a solid theoretical foundation for the optimization of relay contact structures and improvements in manufacturing processes, which is of great significance for ensuring the safe and stable operation of power systems and electronic equipment.

Adsorption and sensing properties of TiO2-modified MoSe2 monolayer for SF6 decomposition components based on the first-principles

As crucial components in power systems, SF6 gas-insulated equipment inevitably develops insulation defects and faults over long-term operation, leading to the decomposition of SF6 gas. Therefore, detecting SF6 decomposition components is essential for assessing the operational status of SF6 gas-insulated equipment and ensuring the safe and stable operation of power systems. Based on first principles, the modification mechanism of TiO2 on MoSe2 was explored, and optimal adsorption models for gases SO2, H2S, SOF2, and SO2F2 on this composite material were established. The adsorption characteristics of each system were analyzed through parameters such as adsorption energy, adsorption distance, charge transfer, electron density difference, and density of states, and the sensing properties of the systems were discussed using parameters including changes in frontier molecular orbitals, desorption time, and sensitivity. The results indicate that TiO2–MoSe2 has difficulty capturing SO2F2, but exhibits chemisorption for SO2, H2S, and SOF2 with adsorption energies of −1.25 eV, −0.99 eV, and −3.40 eV, respectively. Upon adsorption of SO2, TiO2–MoSe2 shows a significant change in electrical conductivity, a desorption time of 4.51 s (at 498 K), and a strong sensitivity response. However, the response to H2S is relatively weak, with lower sensitivity. Therefore, this material is suitable for detecting SO2 but not H2S. TiO2–MoSe2 demonstrates a significant response and excellent sensitivity to SOF2; however, the adsorption process lacks repeatability. Therefore, it can be used as a disposable gas sensor or solid adsorbent for SOF2 detection. The results of this study provide theoretical support for the application of MoSe2-based sensors in the monitoring and fault diagnosis of SF6 gas-insulated equipment.

Prediction of rainy-day photovoltaic power generation based on Generative Adversarial Networks and enhanced Sparrow Search Algorithm

Accurate and timely photovoltaic (PV) power forecasting is crucial for the stable operation of power systems. To address the issue of sparse PV power data on rainy days, this paper proposes the use of Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Networks with Gradient Penalty (WGAN-GP) to augment rainy-day data. A progressive gradient penalty strategy is introduced to avoid gradient vanishing. A Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory network is employed for power forecasting, with adaptive hyperparameter optimization achieved through an improved Sparrow Search Algorithm (LSSA). The optimization capability is enhanced using a chaotic mapping strategy. Validation on data from a 1 MW PV plant demonstrates that the LSSA-optimized model achieves the best forecasting results. After augmenting the rainy-day dataset, the Mean Absolute Error and Root Mean Square Error decreased by 15.3 % and 6.15 %, respectively, indicating that WGAN-GP significantly improves forecasting accuracy on rainy days.

Research on prediction method of photovoltaic power generation based on transformer model

Accurate prediction of photovoltaic power generation is of great significance to stable operation of power system. To improve the prediction accuracy of photovoltaic power, a photovoltaic power generation prediction machine learning model based on Transformer model is proposed in this paper. In this paper, the basic principle of Transformer model is introduced. Correlation analysis tools such as Pearson correlation coefficient and Spearman correlation coefficient are introduced to analyze the correlation between various factors and power generation in the photovoltaic power generation process. Then, the prediction results of traditional machine learning models and the Transformer model proposed in this paper were compared and analyzed for errors. The results show that: for long-term prediction tasks such as photovoltaic power generation prediction, Transformer model has higher prediction accuracy than traditional machine learning models. Moreover, compared with BP, LSTM and Bi-LSTM models, the Mean Square Error (MSE) of Transformer model decreases by 70.16%, 69.32% and 62.88% respectively in short-term prediction, and the Mean Square Error (MSE) of Transformer model decreases by 63.58%, 51.02% and 38.3% respectively in long-term prediction, which has good prediction effect. In addition, compared with the long-term prediction effect of Informer model, Transformer model has higher prediction accuracy.

A detection based on particle filtering and multivariate time-series anomaly detection via graph attention network for automatic voltage control attack in smart grid

The Automatic Voltage Control (AVC) attack is a novel attack that targets voltage control instructions sent to generators from the dispatching center. A successful AVC attack can manipulate reactive power or terminal voltage of generators without being detected, causing the voltages of pilot buses to deviate from the reference values received from the dispatching center. This poses a threat to the safe and stable operation of power systems. This paper proposed a detection based on Particle Filtering (PF) and multivariate time-series anomaly detection via graph attention network (MTAD-GAT). Although each method can detect AVC attacks independently, the coordination of the two methods can be more effective. PF and MTAD are utilized to predict the voltage changes of the pilot bus in the next moment. To combine them, adaptive weights are employed, and an adaptive hybrid prediction can be calculated. The moment can be identified as attacked if the absolute value of the difference between the pilot bus voltage and the reference value exceeds a threshold automatically chosen by Peaks Over Thresholds (POT) theory. The proposed method has been validated through simulations on the IEEE 39-bus 6-partition Coordinated Secondary Voltage Control (CSVC) system and has shown to be effective.
