Three new species of the genera Ceraclea Stephens and Setodes Rambur (Trichoptera: Leptoceridae) from Laos and Cambodia.

Three new species of Leptoceridae were described from the Lower Mekong tributaries, namely Ceraclea luangnamthaensis n. sp., Setodes xangthevadaensis n. sp. from Laos, and Setodes mongkondechsawati n. sp. from Cambodia. The male genitalia of Ceraclea luangnamthaensis n. sp. are distinguished from those of other species by its preanal appendages, which are circular in lateral view. The male genitalia of Setodes xangthevadaensis n. sp. are distinguished from those of other species by their segment X, which is separated into a trifurcate apicodorsal process and two long slender apicolateral processes in dorsal view. The male genitalia of Setodes mongkondechsawati n. sp. are distinguished from those of other species by the apicodorsal process of segment X which is circular in dorsal view.

New long-horned caddisfly genus and species of Leptoceridae (Insecta: Trichoptera) from Brazil.

Ibyacerina caparao new genus, new species (Trichoptera: Leptoceridae) is described and illustrated from specimens collected at Serra do Capara, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The monotypic genus is characterized by tibial spur formula 0,2,2; preanal appendages originating from a single base with a median process; tergum X broad, heavily sclerotized, saddle-like, wider at apex, and upturned, bearing small stout setae; inferior appendages each 3-branched, setose; and phallic apparatus tubular, curved slightly ventrad, with pair of lateral processes. Phylogenetic Bayesian and maximum likelihood analyses based on concatenated cytochrome oxidase I (COI) and carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase (CAD) partial sequences (1,504 bp) including representatives of 38 leptocerid genera positioned Ibyacerina gen. nov. with good support within Leptocerinae. However, due to low branch support of most relationships among genera within the clade of Leptocerinae, except Mystacidini, Setodini, and Leptocerini, its close affinities and tribal placement are still unknown.

Leptoceroidea (Insecta: Trichoptera: Integripalpia) from Serra do Caparaó,Southeast Brazil, including a new species of Atanatolica Mosely (Leptoceridae).

Serra do Caparaó is an impressive mountain range between the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, Southeast Brazil, inserted within the Atlantic Forest biome, and has a mosaic vegetation composed mainly by Dense Ombrophilous Forest and rupicolous vegetation of high-altitude grasslands. This study contributes to increasing the knowledge on the Leptoceroidea fauna of the Serra do Caparaó. Herein, we describe and illustrate a new species of Leptoceridae, Atanatolica bandeira sp. nov. and provide additional data on the richness and distribution of Leptoceroidea from Parque Nacional do Caparaó and surrounding areas. The distribution of some species is expanded. Fourteen and four species are recorded for the first time from Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais states, respectively.

Leptoceridae (Insecta, Trichoptera) from Serra da Canastra Mountain Range, Southeast Brazil: Diversity, Distribution, and Description of Two New Species.

The Brazilian savanna, also known as Cerrado, is one of the world's biodiversity hotspots, covering about 22% of the country. Nevertheless, this region has been suffering an accelerated process of degradation due to the agribusiness expansion. This study contributes to increasing knowledge on the Leptoceridae fauna of the Serra da Canastra Mountains at the Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Herein, we illustrate and describe two new species of Leptoceridae, Notalina franciscana sp. nov. and Oecetis catagua sp. nov., and provide additional data on the richness and distribution of Leptoceridae species in the Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra and surrounding areas. Furthermore, ten species are firstly recorded from Minas Gerais State, increasing the number of Leptoceridae species recorded in the state from 30 to 42.

Caddisflies (Insecta: Trichoptera) from Maranhão State, Northeast Region, Brazil: A new species, checklist, and new geographical records

In order to improve knowledge of Trichoptera diversity in Northeast Region, Brazil, we present here the first checklist of caddisflies from Maranhão State with a description of a new species and geographical records for the Northeast Region and for all of Brazil. Collections were made in 16 sites distributed in three municipalities of Maranhão State. A total of 54 caddisflies species, 26 genera and 10 families were recorded, including one new species of Leptoceridae, Triplectides maranhensis sp. nov., which is described and illustrated. All species listed here are recorded for the first time for the state, 23 of which are new records for the Northeast Region, as well as five new species for Brazil. These results increase the number of species reported from the Northeast Region from 167 to 221.

Two new species of Leptoceridae (Trichoptera) from Florida, USA

Diagnoses, descriptions, and illustrations of male and female genitalia are given for two new species of Leptoceridae: Setodes chipolanus n. sp. from limestone-bottom streams within the Chipola River Basin and Ceraclea limnetes n. sp. from small natural lakes lying within the Munson Sandhills of the Apalachicola National Forest.

Life histories of six species of Leptoceridae (Insecta: Trichoptera) in Victoria

Life history studies were carried out for populations of six species of Leptoceridae. Study sites were a permanent river (Acheron), a temporary river (Lerderderg) and a permanent lake (Monash University). Life histories varied in degree of synchrony of larval development, in length of adult emergence period, and from bi- to semivoltine. Oviposition requirements of adults were found to be the major factor influencing synchrony of the life history of one species. Life history features did not ameliorate the effects of the severe drought of 1982-83, nor did drought result in large changes in life histories.

Studies in neotropical leptoceridae (Trichoptera), ix: A new genus and species from Southeastern Brazil

Neoathripsodes anomalus a new genus and species of Leptoceridae (Leptocerinae) from southeastern Brazil, is described and illustrated. It is diagnosed by the thickened nature of the forewing venation and by the presence of a second article in the male inferior appendage. The female sex and immatures stages are unknown.

Phenology and Ecology of Some Trichoptera in a Low-Gradient Boreal Stream

Nine species of caddisflies (seven species of Leptoceridae, Helicopsyche borealis and Molanna flavicornis) were univoltine in a stream near Edmonton, Canada. Neureclipsis bimaculata was bivoltine at this site. No evidence of egg or adult diapause was seen among the ten numerically dominant species, although four species apparently overwintered as dormant larvae. No obvious increase in mortality was associated with overwintering. Emergence of the ten species occurred during the June to August period. Analysis of literature records of adult collections revealed significant relationships between date of first capture and latitude, and duration of the capture period against latitude for H. borealis and Oecetis inconspicua. Most of the species were found in association with macrophytes, especially Chara and Potamogeton richardsonii. Effects of a total solar eclipse on invertebrate drift in Snobs Creek, Victoria

The effect of the total solar eclipse of 23 October 1976 on invertebrate drift in Snobs Creek, Victoria, was investigated by taking hourly drift samples in two drift nets between 1300 and 2000 h (Eastern Standard Time) on 22, 23 and 24 October. Paramoera fontana (Amphipoda) and terrestrial arthropods exhibited no pattern in their occurrences in the drift. Nymphs of Baetidae (Ephemeroptera) and Trinotoperla (Plecoptera) were rarely found in the drift except after sunset, but exhibited no increase related to the eclipse. Four taxa, namely helodid (Coleoptera) larvae, the larvae of two species of Leptoceridae and one species of Conoesucus (Trichoptera), were more abundant in the drift after sunset and also exhibited an eclipse-related increase in abundance in the drift. Cricotopus (Diptera) larvae were less abundant in the drift after sunset and also exhibited an eclipse-related decrease in abundance in the drift. The results suggest that light intensity has an effect on the occurrence in the drift not only of dark-active invertebrates but also of some light-active invertebrates.
