Labor market performance gaps and the role of secondary vocational education at meister high school in Korea

This study explored the mechanism of labor market performance by confirming the role of secondary vocational education for young Korean employees of high school graduates. To this end, we focused on the Meister High School (MHS) policy for fostering the lead in secondary vocational education in Korea. In comparative perspective, data from 2,344 Korean employees who graduated from MHS or Specialized Vocational High School (SVHS) were analyzed. Firstly, it was found that MHS graduates obtained better objective performance conditions even if the crucial reginal and parental effects are controlled. Next, MHS graduates maintained higher job satisfaction focusing on their horizontal mismatch level. Moreover, MHS graduates with higher achievement in vocational courses were satisfied with their school life. Our findings found the significant roles of the Korean secondary vocational education policy by applying assumptions of the status acquisition model.

특성화고와 마이스터고 선취업 후진학 관련 연구 동향 분석

This study seeks to explore research trends related to the Work First-then to College System for Specialized Vocational High School and Meister High School graduates through analysis of academic papers published in Korea. For this study, 57 papers related to Work First-then to College System learning at Specialized Vocational High School and Meister High School among papers published in domestic journals including research for subjects, methods, and variables were analyzed.
 As a result of the analysis, first, research in the field of the Work First-then to College System at Specialized Vocational High School and Meister High School has been steadily published since 2017. Second, it was found that the Work First-then to College System were being conducted in academic journals related to lifelong ability and vocational education. Third, the research subjects were mainly conducted on learners, and among them, the most studies were conducted on the Work First-then to College System students. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the research topic, the research related to the Work First-then to College System was found to be the most frequent. Fifth, looking at the results of the complementary analysis according to the research method, quantitative research was found to be far more frequent than qualitative research in Specialized Vocational High School and Meister High School. Sixth, as a result of analysis of related variables, social support, individual characteristics, and corporate characteristics were the most frequent. Finally, based on the results derived from this study, research directions related to the Work First-then to College System at Specialized Vocational High School and Meister High School were presented in the future.

The Structural Relationship Between Selected Teacher and School Level Variables and School Effectiveness of Specialized Vocational High School in South Korea

이 연구의 목적은 다층구조방정식 모형을 활용하여 특성화 고등학교 교사 및 학교 수준 변인과 학교 효과성의 구조적 관계를 구명하는데 있었다. 학교 효과성을 예측하는 교사수준 변인으로는 교사수업협력, 교사성취기대, 교사전문성을 고려하였고, 학교수준 변인으로는 학교장 리더십, 학교풍토, 교사수업협력, 교사성취기대 및 교사전문성을 고려하였다. 주요 결과는 첫째, 특성화 고등학교 효과성과 학교장 리더십, 학교풍토, 교사전문성, 교사수업협력, 교사성취기대 간의 가설적 다층구조방정식모형의 적합도는 대체로 양호한 것으로 나타나 변인 간의 구조적 관계를 타당하게 예측하였다. 둘째, 교사 수준에 있어 교사수업 협력, 교사성취기대, 교사전문성이 높을수록 대체로 학교 효과성이 높았다. 셋째, 학교 수준에서 학교장 리더십, 교사수업협력은 대체로 학교 효과성에 정적인 영향을 미쳤으나, 학교풍토, 교사성취기대와 교사 전문성의 영향력은 거의 나타나지 않았다. 넷째, 학교 내에서 교사들 간의 협력적인 활동이 활성화될수록 교사들의 교직에 대한 내적 동기와 교육활동에 전념에 대한 기대가 높아지며, 새로운 역량 개발 활동이 이루어짐으로써 학교 효과성을 높이는데 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 학교장이 학 교교육을 명료화하며, 학교 질서를 유지하고, 교사간의 협력 활동을 촉진시키는 활동을 활발하게 할수록 학교 효과성을 높이는 데 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 토대로 교사수준 및 학 교수준에서 학교 효과성을 제고할 수 있는 제언을 도출하였다.

Relationship between educational mismatches and job satisfaction: evidence from Korean young employees’ lifelong learning

PurposeThis study aims to demonstrate whether the educational mismatch prevalent in society can be overcome by various types of lifelong learning and whether lifelong learning can contribute to job satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachThe participants were 2,559 young Korean employees who graduated from general or specialized vocational high school. This study applied structural equation modeling to verify the mediating effects of lifelong learning on the relationship between educational mismatch and job satisfaction. In addition, this study compared whether the conceptual model results were applied to those who graduated from general school and specialized vocational school through multigroup analysis.FindingsRegarding the horizontal mismatch, the mediating effect of lifelong learning correlated with job satisfaction was significantly measured in all multigroup models, including the conceptual model. Nevertheless, regarding the vertical mismatch, this study confirmed that informal learning influences job satisfaction differently according to the type of high school from which employees graduated. Furthermore, for those who graduated from specialized vocational school, the relationship between vertical mismatch and job satisfaction was significantly indicated. However, there was no influence of informal learning at the workplace.Originality/valueThis study empirically demonstrated the alternative value of lifelong learning in overcoming the preceding educational mismatch. Moreover, the evidence that such lifelong learning effects may vary depending on the vocational education experiences before entering the labor market is valuable.

A Study on School Education Satisfaction, Educational Needs, and Career Planing for Students in Specialized Vocational High Schools

이 연구에서는 특성화고 재학생의 특성화고에 대한 인식과 만족도를 조사하고 특성화고 교육에 대한 요구 및 진로 계획을 분석하여 특성화고 운영 방향 및 정책 설정에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 특성화고 151개교의 재학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 총 7527명의 응답을 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 특성화고 학생들의 특성화고 진학의 가장 주된 이유는 ‘취업에 유리해서’였다. 학생들은 대체로 학교생활과 학과에 만족하였고 전공과 적성․소질과의 부합 정도가 높을수록 만족도가 높았다. 둘째, 특성화고 학생들은 전문교과 수업이 전공 분야 능력 함양에, 보통교과 수업이 기초 학력 향상에, 진로교육이 진로 탐색에 도움이 된다고 인식하였고, 이러한 결과는 전공과 적성․소질과의 부합 정도가 높을수록 높았다. 그리고 전문교과 수업 방법으로 현장기반형 수업을, 보통교과 수업 방법으로 프로젝트식 수업을 가장 선호하였다. 셋째, 특성화고 학생들은 취업지도와 진로지도에 대체로 만족하였으며 전공과 적성․소질과의 부합 정도가 높을수록 만족도가 높았다. 특성화고 학생들의 66.9%(취업, 취업 및 진학 병행)가 취업을 희망하였고 전공과 적성․소질과의 부합 정도가 높을수록 취업 희망이 높았다. 그러나 고등학교 졸업 이후 직업세계에서의 성장 경로에 대해 제대로 알지 못하고 있었고 전공과 적성․소질과의 부합 정도가 높을수록 성장경로에 대한 인지 정도가 높았다. 이러한 연구 결과에 터한 제언으로 특성화고 인식 개선을 위한 특성화고 성과 평가 및 홍보 체계 개편, 고졸 취업의 질적 제고를 위한 사회 정책 강화, 미래 지향적인 취업지도 운영, 구성주의적 교수‧학습 강화, 중학교 진로교육의 개편이 요구된다.This study to analyze awareness, satisfaction, and educational needs of specialized vocational high school (SVHS) students about SVHS education, and career planing for students in SVHS. The survey was performed with students in 151 SVHS, 7527 questionnaires were analyzed. The major results of this study are as following. First, the main reason for students to enter a SVHS was that ‘it increased the chance of employment.’ Students were satisfied with their school life and subjects, and their satisfaction levels were higher as their major suited their aptitude properly. Second, the students said that specialized subject class helped them to develop capability in their major area, general subject class helped them to improve their basic academic skills, and career education helped them to explore their career path. They preferred work-based class for specialized subject teaching method and project-type class for general subject teaching method the most. Third, the students were satisfied with vocational guidance and career guidance. Among the students in SVHS, 66.9% (employment or employment and high education at the same time) desired for employment. However, students were unaware of the career path in the world of vocation after graduating from high school. Therefore, it is necessary to reform performance evaluation and promotion system of SVHS for improving the awareness of SVHS, reinforce social policies for improving the quality of employment by high school graduates, operate future-oriented vocational guidance, reinforce constructive teaching and learning, and reorganize career education in middle schools.

특성화고등학교 교사의 폭력피해 경험, 소진 및 외상 후 성장

The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers" experience of violence victimization, teacher burnout, and post-traumatic growth(PTG). The subjects of this study were 137 teachers working at four specialized vocational high schools located in Busan. Data analysis was conducted on 130 persons (94.9%) who answered that they had experience of violence among 137 people who participated in the study. The study conducted from February 10, 2019 to March 20, 2019. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure teacher violence victimization, burnout, and PTG. The collected data was analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation; t-test, ANOVA, Partial correlation via SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. There was a statistically significant difference in experience of violence victimization according to age(t=2.48, p=.047). There was a statistically significant difference in teacher burnout according to gender(t=9.94, p=.002) and teaching career(t=2.55, p=.042). There was a statistically significant difference in PTG according to gender(t=-2.11 p=.033). There was a positive correlation between the experience of violence victimization and the teachers burnout. The teachers burnout showed a negative correlation with PTG. It is necessary to develop a guidance reflecting the characteristics of individual schools to prevent the violence victimization by specialized vocational high school teachers.

특성화고등학교 교사의 직업기초능력지도와 교사효능감, 학교풍토 및 학교장 변혁적 리더십의 인과적 관계

이 연구는 톡성화고등학교 교사의 직업기초능력지도와 교사효능감, 학교풍토 및 학교장 변 혁적 리더십의 인과적 관계를 구명하기 위해 실시하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 특 성화고 교사의 직업기초능력지도 수준은 5점 만점에 평균 3.46점(표준편차 0.698)으로 중간 이상이었다. 직업기초능력 이해, 수업활용, 평가반영의 3개 직업기초능력지도 관찰변인 가운 데, 이해수준이 가장 높고, 평가반영 수준이 상대적으로 가장 낮았다. 또한 교사들의 직업기초 능력지도 수준은 교사의 연령, 담임여부, 직무교육여부, 직급, 담당교과에 따른 차이가 있었으 나 성별, 근속년수, 학력, 학교설립유형, 학교계열, 학교소재지에 따라서는 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 둘째, 특성화고 교사의 직업기초능력지도와 교사효능감, 학교풍토 및 학교장 변혁적 리더십 간의 인과모형의 적합도가 양호한 것으로 나타나 변인간의 인과관계를 타당하 게 예측하였다. 셋째, 특성화고 교사의 교사효능감, 학교풍토는 직업기초능력지도에 직접적으 로 정적인 영향을 유의미하게 미치는 것으로 나타났으나 학교장 변혁적 리더십은 유의미한 영향관계가 성립되지 않았다. 넷째, 특성화고 교사의 직업기초능력지도와 학교풍토의 관계에 서 교사효능감은 유의미한 매개효과가 없었으며 특성화고등학교 교사의 직업기초능력지도와 학교장 변혁적 리더십의 관계에서 교사효능감은 부의 매개효과가 있었다.

직업기초능력평가 문제해결능력이 마이스터고 및 특성화고 학생의 진로성숙도에 미치는 영향

Abstract The purpose of this study was to inquiry of influence of Meister high school and specialized vocational high school’ students on career maturity in problem solving ability domain of test for enhanced employability & upgraded proficiency. Research subjects and region were sophomore students of each one of Meister high schools and specialized vocational high schools in Gwangju region. The sample(N=481) was drawn from 2 high schools and collected data were analyzed with SPSS using t-test, Pearson correlation and Levene’s test. Items of problem solving ability domain of test for enhanced employ ability & upgraded proficiency were used test items developed in 2012. Career maturity test in Careernet site was used test items developed in 2001 which was made up 3 domains such as attitude, ability and action and 8 sub-regions such as planning, attitude on the vocation, independence, self-understanding, rational decision-making, explore of information, knowledge of hope vocation and career exploration and preparation of action, and constituted 64 items. The results were as follows. Findings of the analysis in specialized vocational high school students demonstrated the positive results of rational decision-making and explore of information in problem solving ability test for enhanced employ ability & upgraded proficiency. Comparing career maturity influence on Meister high school with specialized vocational high school students about problem solving ability domain of test for enhanced employ ability & upgraded proficiency, Meister high school students’ score were more high grade than specialized vocational high school students grade.Key words : Test for Enhanced Employ ability & Upgraded Proficiency, Meister High School, Specialized Vocational High School, Career Maturity Corresponding author : 02-3704-3527, syhahm@kice.re.kr

The Structural Relationship among Economic Stress, School Belonging, Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy, Career Maturity, and School Satisfaction in Specialized Vocational High Schools

최근 부각되고 있는 청년실업문제를 해결하기 위해, 고등학교부터 직업능력을 기를 수 있는 특성화고등학교에 대한 국가의 정책지원이 강화되고 있다. 특성화고등학교가 학생들에게 보다 나은 교육프로그램을 제공 할 수 있게 학교교육성과인 진로성숙도, 학교만족도에 영향을 미치는 변인을 찾고 이들 사이의 구조적 관계를 살펴보고자 하였다. 학교교육성과에 영향 미치는 변인은 동기이론의 대표적인 Alderfer의 ERG이론을 통해 경제적 스트레스, 학교소속감, 진로결정자기효능감을 선정하였다. 본 연구는 의정부의 A특성화고등학교 2학년 재학생 전원을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여, 데이터를 수집하였다. 결석자, 무응답자 등을 제외한 277명을 대상으로 연구하였다. 특성화고교생의 경제적 스트레스, 학교소속감, 진로결정자기효능감, 진로성숙도, 학교만족도의 관계를 살펴본 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 특성화고교생의 학교소속감, 진로결정자기효능감은 진로성숙도에 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 경제적 스트레스, 학교소속감, 진로결정자기효능감은 학교만족도에 영향을 미쳤다. 따라서 특성화고등학교에서는 학생들의 경제적스트레스, 학교소속감과 진로결정자기효능감을 관리할 수 있는 교육프로그램을 만들어서 학생들에게 적용한다면, 학교교육의 성과인 진로성숙도와 학교만족도가 높게 나타날 수 있을 것이다.

공업계열 특성화고 교사가 인식하는 수능 직업탐구 영역 응시집단 특성 변화

Abstract The purpose of this study was to inquiry of perception on the characteristics of applying students for vocational education division in the CSAT(College Scholastic Ability Test) and what were characteristics of main group by industry department teachers of specialized vocational high school. Therefore, it was highly desirable that researchers to survey what were change on the characteristics of applying for vocational education division in the CSAT and what were prospect on applying group for vocational education division in the CSAT. The survey included 100 industry department teachers of specialized vocational high school on 9 regions from Korea. The analysis of survey results were by regions, industry department teacher's career of specialized vocational high school. The results were as follows. Main reasons of reducing on applying for vocational education division in the CSAT after the class of 2010 was policy of employment reinforce in specialized vocational high school by government. The next reason was increasing students who want the next stage of education not requiring results of the CSAT. Leading group of reducing on applying for the CSAT after the class of 2010 was fine grade group.
