A Set of Space-Time Block Codes for the High-Rate Transmission Scheme with One Information Bit

In [1], the authors have proposed one high rate transmission scheme for Space-Time Block Codes (STBC) without additional system source such as power, bandwidth and time slot. To maintain the full rank property of the coding gain matrix, we propose a set of STBCs for 4 transmit antennas transmission to transmit one additional information bit achieving rate-9/8. Another orthogonal STBC code with rate-1 is proposed in this paper within the set. It shows by computer simulation results that by employing the set of STBCs, it achieves better bit error rate (BER) performance and throughput than that of [1] with a valid BER improvement at the high SNR region above 20dB.

Frequency-Domain Equalization for Orthogonal and Quasi-Orthogonal STBCs over Frequency-Selective Wireless and Power-Line Channels

In recent years, combination of single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE) and space-time block coding/code (STBC) techniques to exploit the advantages of both, has received a great attention. In this paper we propose new techniques for combining SC-FDE with orthogonal and Quasi-orthogonal STBCs applicable to any number of transmit antennas. For Quasi-orthogonal STBC we first propose a new structure for codes with four transmit antennas and then extend it to higher numbers. We convert Quasi-orthogonal system to two equivalent orthogonal subsystems and equalize and decode these subsystems based on our proposed procedure for orthogonal codes. Finally, we present our simulation results for different frequency-selective wireless and power-line channels and show that a significant SNR gain is achieved when SC-FDE is combined with diversity techniques.

A High Rate Transmission for Space-Time Block Coding with One Additional Bit Information

In this letter, we propose a set of Space-Time Block Codes (STBC) equipped with 4 transmit antennas to transmit one additional information bit achieving rate-9/8. To maintain full rank property of the coding gain matrix, one new orthogonal STBC code with full rate is proposed in this letter. Simulation results show that this method achieves good bit error rate (BER) performance with a small gap compared to that of the rate-1 case and throughput in the high SNR region.

Performance of convolutionally-coded MIMO systems with antenna selection

In this work, we study the performance of a serial concatenated scheme comprising a convolutional code (CC) and an orthogonal space-time block code (STBC) separated by an inter-leaver. Specifically, we derive performance bounds for this concatenated scheme, clearly quantify the impact of using a CC in conjunction with a STBC, and compare that to using a STBC code only. Furthermore, we examine the impact of performing antenna selection at the receiver on the diversity order and coding gain of the system. In performing antenna selection, we adopt a selection criterion that is based on maximizing the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the receiver. That is, we select a subset of the available receive antennas that maximizes the received SNR. Two channel models are considered in this study: Fast fading and quasi-static fading. For both cases, our analyses show that substantial coding gains can be achieved, which is confirmed through Monte-Carlo simulations. We demonstrate that the spatial diversity is maintained for all cases, whereas the coding gain deteriorates by no more than 10 log 10 (M/L) dB, all relative to the full complexity multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system.
