The physicochemical properties of waste from the production of mineral wool from gabbro-diabase as sorption materials for the removal of hydrocarbons from aqueous media were studied. The mineral and elemental compositions of gabbro-diabase powder and mineral wool based on it were determined by X-ray analysis. The values of the maximum oil and petroleum capacity in relation to the oils of the Devonian and carbon deposits, as well as industrial oils of the I-20A and I-40A brands and motor oil of the 5W-40 brand were determined. The effect of processing with an organosilicon liquid of the GKZH-11 brand on the oil capacity, water absorption and buoyancy of the sorption material under study was studied. It is shown that the treatment of fibrous waste from the production of mineral wool with a 1 % solution of siloxane liquid contributes to a significant decrease in water absorption and an increase in buoyancy and oil absorption when removing hydrocarbons from the water surface.
