Insights into the formation and growth of high entropy PdPtSnPbNi nanowires to obtain catalysts with high alcohol electrocatalytic oxidation activity

High-entropy alloys have raised great interest in recent years because of their potential applications for multi-electron reactions owing to their diverse active sites and multielement tunability. However, the difficulty of synthesis is an obstacle to their development due to phase separation often exists. In addition, it’s a challenge to precisely control morphology in harsh conditions, thus leading to nanoparticles in many cases. We report a facile method to obtain PdPtPbSnNi HEA NWs by solvothermal synthesis method that no existing phase separation. PdPb nucleation plays a role in the formation of the high-entropy structure that serves as a PdPb nucleus for Sn, Ni, and Pt reduction subsequently, thus forming a single phase and an orderly-arranged nanowire structure. Significantly, the optimized PdPtPbSnNi NWs exhibit excellent catalytic activity and stability for both EOR and MOR which is 4.36 A mgPd+Pt-1 and 4.34 A mgPd+Pt-1, respectively. This study highlights a novel strategy for morphology tuning, providing a prospect for designing superior high-entropy nano-catalysts for multi-step reactions.

Zinc/Magnesium Ferrite Nanoparticles Functionalized with Silver for Optimized Photocatalytic Removal of Malachite Green.

Water pollution is a major environmental challenge. Due to the inefficiency of conventional wastewater treatment plants in degrading many organic complex compounds, these recalcitrant pollutants end up in rivers, lakes, oceans and other bodies of water, affecting the environment and human health. Semiconductor photocatalysis is considered an efficient complement to conventional methods, and the use of various nanomaterials for this purpose has been widely explored, with a particular focus on improving their activity under visible light. This work focuses on developing magnetic and photoactive zinc/magnesium mixed ferrites (Zn0.5Mg0.5Fe2O4) by sol-gel and solvothermal synthesis methods, which are two of the most important and efficient methods used for the synthesis of ferrite nanoparticles. The nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized by the sol-gel method exhibited an average size of 14.7 nm, while those synthesized by the solvothermal method had an average size of 17.4 nm. Both types possessed a predominantly cubic structure and demonstrated superparamagnetic behavior, reaching a magnetization saturation value of 60.2 emu g-1. Due to the high recombination rate of electrons/holes, which is an intrinsic feature of ferrites, surface functionalization with silver was carried out to enhance charge separation. The results demonstrated a strong influence of adsorption and of the deposition of silver. Several optimization steps were performed during synthesis, allowing us to create efficient catalysts, as proved by the almost full removal of the dye malachite green attaining 95.0% (at a rate constant of 0.091 min-1) and 87.6% (at a rate constant of 0.017 min-1) using NPs obtained by the sol-gel and solvothermal methods, respectively. Adsorption in the dark accounted for 89.2% of the dye removal for nanoparticles prepared by sol-gel and 82.8% for the ones obtained by the solvothermal method. These results make mixed zinc/magnesium ferrites highly promising for potential industrial application in effluent photoremediation using visible light.

A novel composite (Bi2WO6/TiS2) presenting an excellent Z-scheme photocatalytic degradation for methylene blue dye under the visible light irradiation

The current research direction in the field is the development of a Z-scheme composite photocatalyst for the purpose of degrading organic materials in water. The Solvo-thermal synthesis method was employed to successfully synthesize a novel Z-scheme photocatalyst namely Bi2WO6/TiS2@3 %, Bi2WO6/TiS2@6 % and Bi2WO6/TiS2@9 % which is driven by visible light. The materials physicochemical properties were assessed using several analytical methods i.e. XRD, EDX, SEM, TEM, FTIR, UV–vis, PL, Raman spectroscopy and EIS. The Bi2WO6/TiS2@6 % composite revealed the maximum photocatalytic efficiency in the removal of MB dye (98 %) in 70 min. The results of the free radical trap studies indicate that h+ and •O2− are the primary free radicals involved in the photocatalytic degradation. The photocatalytic performance of the composite was improved due to the creation of a heterojunction between Bi2WO6 and TiS2 resulted in enhanced electron conduction, efficient separation of photogenerated e- and h+. Furthermore, it has been shown through six cycle test that the hybrid material consisting of Bi2WO6/TiS2@6 % exhibited a consistent degrading capability (91 %) during the photodegradation process. This distinctive heterojunction photocatalyst material exhibits extensive potential for application in the elimination of organic contaminants and cleanup of the environment.

Boosting Blue Self-Trapped Exciton Emission in All-Inorganic Zero-Dimensional Metal Halide Cs2ZnCl4 via Zirconium (IV) Doping.

Low-dimensional metal halides with efficient luminescence properties have received widespread attention recently. However, nontoxic and stable low-dimensional metal halides with efficient blue emission are rarely reported. We used a solvothermal synthesis method to synthesize tetravalent zirconium ion-doped all-inorganic zero-dimensional Cs2ZnCl4 for the first time. Bright blue emission in the range of 370 nm-700 nm with a emission maximum at 456 nm was observed in Zr4+:Cs2ZnCl4 accompanied by a large Stokes shift, which was due to self-trapped excitons (STEs) caused by the lattice vibrations of the twisted structure. Simultaneously, the PLQY of Zr4+:Cs2ZnCl4 achieve an impressive 89.67%, positioning it as a compelling contender for future applications in blue-light technology.

Controlled Synthesis of Mg-MOF-74 and Its CO2 Adsorption in Flue Gas

Yellow nanorod Mg-MOF-74 was obtained through a solvothermal synthesis method. The XRD, N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, SEM, and TGA results suggest that the particle size of Mg-MOF-74 reaches 400 nm after the introduction of sodium acetate in the precursor of Mg-MOF-74. Furthermore, the morphology of Mg-MOF-74 changed from cauliflower- to rod-shaped particles. At the same time, the BET specific surface area and pore volume of Mg-MOF-74 also increased a lot. Then, the CO2 dynamic adsorption capacity of Mg-MOF-74 was measured with a self-made fixed bed at 30 °C and a 0.1 bar CO2 partial pressure. The results show that the CO2 adsorption capacity of Mg-MOF-74-N2 reaches 3.67 mmol/g, and its CO2 adsorption capacity remains unchanged after 10 CO2 adsorption–desorption cycles.

GO/ZnO Biosensor Synthesis and Characterization for Biosensors

In this study, GO/ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized using the solvothermal method and characterized for potential biosensor applications. The synthesized nanoparticles exhibited a high degree of crystalline structural purity, as confirmed by XRD analysis. The XRD pattern revealed characteristic peaks corresponding to the crystal planes of ZnO, indicating a typical wurtzite hexagonal structure. In addition, the synthesized nanoparticles were evaluated for their physical characteristics using transmission electron microscopy. The TEM analysis showed that the ZnO nanoparticles had a narrow size distribution, with an average particle size of approximately 25.19 ± 4.1 nm. The morphology of the nanoparticles was further examined, revealing that the ZnO nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed and localized within the GO sheets. Furthermore, the exfoliation of GO into single or few-layered sheets was achieved, as evidenced by its transparency in the TEM images. These findings suggest that the solvothermal synthesis method is effective in producing highly dispersed GO/ZnO nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution. The synthesized GO/ZnO nanoparticles showed promise for biosensor applications due to their uniform shape and distribution, as well as their small size.

Construction of Highly Luminescent Lanthanide Coordination Polymers and Their Visualization for Luminescence Sensing.

NaH2SIP was selected as an organic ligand (NaH2SIP = 5-sulfoisophthalic acid monosodium salt). We successfully constructed a new class of lanthanide coordination polymers Ln-HS ([Ln(SIP)(DMF)(H2O)4]DMF·H2O; Ln = Eu, Tb, Sm, and Dy) by a simple solvothermal synthesis method. They exhibited excellent photoluminescence properties for Ln3+ ions, where Eu-HS and Tb-HS exhibited high quantum yields of 13.70 and 42.38%, respectively. The codoped lanthanide coordination polymers obtained by doping with different ratios of Eu3+/Tb3+ serve as excellent ratiometric thermometers with high sensitivities in the physiological temperature range, with values of 16.8, 7.0, and 14.5%·K-1, respectively. The luminescent colors of Tb0.95Eu0.05-HS and Tb0.94Eu0.06-HS exhibit variations from green to yellow to orange, achieving visualized luminescence in a narrow temperature range. The composite film material Tb0.94Eu0.06-HS@PMMA demonstrates this color variation. Next, Tb0.5Sm0.5-HS obtained by Tb3+/Sm3+ codoping was investigated. The difference in the luminescence colors visible to the naked eye at different excitation wavelengths and the change in luminescence colors occur in a very narrow temperature range. All of them show the great value of the visualized luminescence in practical anticounterfeiting, with double anticounterfeiting function and high security.

Nanostructured Cu12+xSb4S13 tetrahedrites prepared by solvothermal synthesis in 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine for efficient thermal energy harvesting

Intrinsically low lattice thermal conductivity and the earth-abundant nature of elements make tetrahedrites very promising sulfur-based materials for thermoelectric applications. Although the thermoelectric performance of lightweight sulfides is usually restricted due to high lattice thermal conductivity, nanoengineering may effectively enhance the energy conversion performance of tetrahedrites by disturbing phonon transport. In this work, we modified our unique solvothermal synthesis method with 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine as a solvent and pure elements as reagents to obtain both copper-rich and copper-poor tetrahedrites with nanometric grain sizes ranging from 40 to 300 nm. The powders obtained were densified by the PECS method at T = 573 K and p = 40 MPa. The structural and thermal properties of the fabricated materials were systematically investigated as a function of temperature to revisit the phase evolution of the Cu-Sb-S system in the vicinity of the tetrahedrite compounds. The Seebeck coefficient of the investigated materials changes from 150 µVK−1 up to 400 µVK−1 at 300 K due to the effective tuning of the carrier concentration. In turn, the nanocrystalline nature of the prepared tetrahedrites, which influences the strong phonon scattering at grain boundaries, results in an ultralow lattice thermal conductivity of around 0.25 Wm−1K−1 at 300 K. As a result of the tuned electronic transport and ultralow lattice thermal conductivity, the highest ZT parameter of 0.9 at 596 K was achieved for the nominal composition Cu13Sb4S13. This is one of the best values reported to date for low-cost and environmentally friendly tetrahedrites at this temperature. The resultant nanomaterials can be used as components in novel inorganic and organic-inorganic composites for direct conversion of heat to electricity.

Improving the proton conductivity of MOF materials by regulating the pore space

The construction of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with structural tunability, designability, and high stability is crucial in proton conduction studies. In this paper, MOF-801 and UiO-66 were used as precursors. A solvothermal synthesis method was employed to modulate the pore space of composite MOFs. The hydrogen-bonding network and structure within the pore cavities are adjusted by varying the molar ratios of fumaric acid and terephthalic acid to improve the proton transfer rate and proton conductivity of the materials. A total of 14 materials, MOF/MOG-801&UiO-66-X (X is the molar ratio of fumaric acid and terephthalic acid) were synthesised, the variation of proton conductivity with temperature of which was investigated at different tempertures and humidities. The results shows that MOG-801&UiO-66–1:1 has the best proton conductivity with 0.12 S cm−1 at 353 K and 100 % RH, which is 5 times higher than that of MOF-801&UiO-66–1:3 (2.54 × 10−2 S cm−1), 11 times higher than that of MOF-801 and 22 times higher than that of UiO-66. Based on the calculated activation energy and structural characterisation, the proton conduction mechanism of the composite was investigated. This work opens up novel research fields for the design of new proton-conducting MOF materials.

Controlling magnetic and surface properties of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles: A comparison of co-precipitation and solvothermal synthesis methods

Cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles have been synthesized using two different wet-chemical methods: co-precipitation and solvothermal. Mesoporous cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were prepared using the co-precipitation method with 4, 6, and 8 wt% of Pluronic P123 and with the solvothermal method with 10, 15, and 20 wt% of PEG-4000. X-ray diffractometry confirmed the formation of a single-phase spinel structure. The saturation magnetization of the nanoparticles increased from 48 to 64 emu/g as the P123 concentration increased from 4 to 8 % wt, and decreased from 72 to 62 emu/g as the PEG-4000 concentration increased from 10 to 20 % wt. Generally, the samples synthesized by the solvothermal method had a higher specific surface area than those prepared by the co-precipitation method. In comparison to other samples, the 10 % PEG-4000 sample had the highest specific surface area and showed the highest level of dye degradation (93 %). The findings demonstrated that the concentration of Pluronic P123 and PEG-4000 had an impact on the saturation magnetization and specific surface area of the nanoparticles.

Local Heating Induced Single-Crystalline Phase Control in Electrochemical Synthesis of Nanomaterials

Synthesis of electrochemical crystalline nanomaterials have a great advantage. The single crystalline material synthesized by the existing solvothermal synthesis method often has no catalytic activity due to contamination on the surface during the synthesis process. Therefore, in this study, the electrochemical single crystalline nanomaterials induced by heat were clearly synthesized. Since a process of thermal post-treatment of nanomaterials require a high temperature, thermal induced electrochemical synthesis was lowering the thermal energy barrier.In this study, copper, silver, gold, and platinum single crystalline nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized through SEM, TEM, and SAED. In the synthesis process, the growth process according to deposition coulomb was observed. And the catalytic activity of the synthesized single crystalline nanomaterials was measured.

FexNiy/ SiO2-Al2O3 catalyzed hydrodeoxygenation of biorenewable platform molecules

A series of FexNiy/SA (SA = SiO2-Al2O3) catalysts were synthesized via solvothermal assisted deposition precipitation synthesis method and explored for low-temperature hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reaction of methyl oleate into n-alkanes and vegetable oils. A comprehensive study on the effects of increasing iron oxide loading in catalyst samples, i.e., Fe1Ni1/SA, Fe3Ni1/SA, Fe5Ni1/SA and Fe7Ni1/SA, on the crystallographic, morphological, textual and surface chemical behavioural were investigated thoroughly using various spectroscopic techniques. The study disclosed excellent surface area, high acidic strength and reducibility of Fe1Ni1/SA catalyst due to the lowest Fe2+ or FeO species. In contrast, higher iron oxide loading leads to the accumulation of Fe2+ ions on the surface with reduced metal acid centres and diminished surface area. The catalytic conversion as well as C17-C18 selectivity in catalytic HDO was also scrutinised with particular reference to Fe2+/Fe3+ ion ratio. The obtained superior catalytic activity and C18 selectivity of Fe1Ni1/SA catalyst are due to the lowest Fe2+/Fe3+ ion ratio. However, the iron oxide loading increased the Fe2+/Fe3+ ion ratio, which ultimately decreased the catalytic activity. Thus, the role of Fe2+ species in the deactivation of catalyst was discussed in detail to establish conversion and selectivity control in the catalytic HDO pathway.

Fe-MOFs/graphene oxide-derived magnetic nanocomposite for enhanced adsorption of As(V) in aqueous solution

The urgent need to remove arsenic from groundwater stems from the irreversible damage it causes to aquatic systems and biological health. In this study, unique magnetic Fe3O4/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites derived from MIL-100(Fe)/GO precursor were rationally and precisely developed by combination of solvothermal synthesis and pyrolysis methods. The optimized MIL-100(Fe)/1%GO-400 magnetic nanocomposite (where 1% and 400 represent the mass ratio of GO to MIL-100(Fe) and pyrolysis temperature, respectively) exhibited exceptional adsorption capacity for As(V) and possessed magnetic separation properties. The novel nanocomposite had complete MOF morphology and crystal structure, as well as good resistance to interference from ions and could be used effectively over a wide pH range (2–9) for adsorption of As(V). The As(V) adsorption on the nanocomposite was found to follow the pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model and Temkin adsorption isotherm model, as well as a spontaneous endothermic process dominated by chemisorption. The incorporation of GO and pyrolysis of the Fe-MOFs was proven to enhance the adsorption capacity of nanocomposite, water stability, and magnetic recovery ability. The adsorption mechanism was attributed to the synergistic effect of chemical complexation, hydrogen binding and electrostatic interaction. This work not only presents a feasible strategy for the development of Fe-MOFs-based derivatives, but also offers a promising approach to expanding the application of functional Fe-MOFs-based derivatives in arsenic-contaminated wastewater treatment.

Characteristics of nanoparticles of mixed Cu–Zn–Mg spinel ferrites: A study of structural and electrochemical attributes

Spinel ferrites have some benefits when used as supercapacitor electrode materials, most notably their outstanding long-term cycle stability and energy storage capacity. The materials we investigated were prepared and included Cu doping into Zn–Mg ferrites; these materials are designated as Zn0.4Mg0.5Cu0.1Fe2O4 (ZCM1), Zn0.3Mg0.5Cu0.2Fe2O4 (ZCM2), and Zn0.2Mg0.5Cu0.3Fe2O4 (ZCM3). A variety of techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) analyses, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and various electrochemical methods, were used to conduct a thorough analysis of their structural features, surface morphology, chemical composition, electrochemical activity, and capacitive performance. We used the solvothermal reflux synthesis method to dope the Zn–Mg ferrites with Cu to improve their performance. The ZCM3 electrode was the result of this change, and it showed a best specific capacitance (Cs) of 508.25 F/g at a current density (CD) of 1.75 A/g. Interestingly, this particular capacitance was higher than the other electrode materials such as ZCM1 and ZCM2 that we examined in this research.

Facile Synthesis of Ce-MOF for the Removal of Phosphate, Fluoride, and Arsenic

Ce-MOF was synthesized by a solvothermal synthesis method and was used to simultaneously remove phosphate, fluoride and arsenic (V) from water by adsorption. Ce-MOF was characterized by a nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherm, scanning electron microscopy, and infrared spectroscopy. The effects of initial concentration, adsorption time, adsorption temperature, pH value and adsorbent on the adsorption properties were investigated. A Langmuir isotherm model was used to fit the adsorption data, and the adsorption capacity of phosphate, fluoride, and arsenic (V) was calculated to be 41.2 mg·g−1, 101.8 mg·g−1 and 33.3 mg·g−1, respectively. Compared with the existing commercially available CeO2 and other MOFs, Ce-MOF has a much higher adsorption capacity. Furthermore, after two reuses, the performance of the adsorbent was almost unchanged, indicating it is a stable adsorbent and has good application potential in the field of wastewater treatment.

Transition metal bismuth spheres dispersed and anchored in benzene-ring-grafted porous g-C3N4 nanosheets for photocatalytic reduction of CO2

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) holds a prominent position in the field of photocatalysis and represents one of the most promising non-metallic catalysts at present. However, its inherent defects undermine its photocatalytic activity, thus limiting its practical applications. To address this issue, we employed transition metal bismuth spheres, which were dispersed and anchored on benzene-ring-grafted porous g-C3N4 nanosheets, for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 via a simple solvothermal synthesis method. The experimental results revealed that Bi-BCN-0.2 exhibited the highest photocatalytic CO2 reduction, yielding 8.17 μmol/(g·h) of CO, which was 21 times greater than CN (0.39 μmol/(g·h)) and 8.5 times greater than BCN (0.95 μmol/(g·h)). Through relevant characterization, we found that the introduction of benzene rings in the CN skeleton resulted in an expansion of π-electron delocalization, leading to improved the efficiency of charge separation upon photoexcitation. Additionally, the further loading of Bi sphere co-catalysts, forming Schottky junctions, effectively inhibited the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and promoted photogenerated charge transfer. Furthermore, the SPR (surface plasmon resonance) effect enhanced the light harvesting ability. These modifications collectively contributed to enhancing the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4 and introduced a novel approach for utilizing g-C3N4 in the photocatalytic reduction of CO2.

Morphology regulation of isomeric covalent organic frameworks for high selective light scattering detection of lead

Isomerism is an essential and ubiquitous phenomenon in organic chemistry, yet it is rarely observed in covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Herein, we synthesized two framework-isomeric COFs (BATD-Dma-COF-K and BATD-Dma-COF-R) and found for the first time that the light scattering signal of the COFs can be used for the analytical detection of lead ion. By using solvothermal and room temperature solvent synthesis methods, controlling different synthesis conditions, and introducing regulators to increase the energy difference between different products, the product with the lowest energy could be synthesized under specific conditions. This method could control the morphology of the synthesized COF and realize the precise synthesis of framework-isomeric COF by changing the experimental conditions. The structures of the two framework-isomeric COFs were characterized and confirmed by a series of analytical methods. Based on the principle that lead ions coordinate with N and O on the surface of two skeletal isomers BATD-Dma-COFs to enhance the light scattering signal of the COFs, a light scattering probe was developed by BATD-Dma-COF for the detection of metal lead ion in water samples. Lead ion concentration in the range from 2.0 to 250.0 μM had a good linear relationship with the light scattering intensity increase of the COFs with detection limit as low as 0.8397 μM by BATD-Dma-COF-K and 0.9207 μM by BATD-Dma-COF-R.

One-pot synthesis of bimetallic Fe-Cu metal-organic frameworks composite for the elimination of organic pollutants via peroxymonosulphate activation.

A series of bimetallic of FeCu metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been synthesised using a solvothermal process by varying the ratio between the two metals. Further, the bimetallic MOF catalysts were characterised by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and infrared spectroscopy techniques. Their catalytic properties for activation of peroxymonosulphate (PMS) have been tested by the removal of a model dye, rhodamine B. As a result, NH2-Fe2.4Cu1-MOF demonstrated the highest degradation, the effect of the ratio NH2-Fe2.4Cu1-MOF/PMS has been studied, and the main reactive species have been assessed. The application of these MOFs in powder form is difficult to handle in successive batch or flow systems. Thus, this study assessed the feasibility of growing NH2-Fe2,4Cu1-MOF on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) spheres using the one-pot solvothermal synthesis method. The optimisation of the catalytic activity of the synthesised composite (NH2-Fe2.4Cu1-MOF@PAN) has been evaluated by response surface methodology using a central composite face-centred experimental design matrix and selecting as independent variables: time, PMS concentration, and catalyst dosage. Based on the results, the optimisation of the operational conditions has been validated. At 2.5mM PMS, 90min, and 1.19g·L-1 of catalyst dosage, maximum degradation (80.92%) has been achieved, which doubles the removal values obtained in previous studies with other MOFs. In addition, under these conditions, the catalyst has been proven to maintain its activity and stability for several cycles without activity loss.

CTAB-assisted solvothermal growth of CuCo2S4 on nickel foam for high-performance symmetric supercapacitor

In this work, copper-cobalt sulfide (CuCo2S4) with spinel structure was directly grown on nickel foam by a two-step solvothermal synthesis method using a mixture of water/ethanol as solvent and Na2S.9H2O solution as a sulfur source. The effects of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) contents in the sulfurization step were analyzed by various structural, microstructural, and electrochemical characterization methods. The hierarchical microstructure and high specific capacitance of 4230 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1 were obtained by using 1.5 mmol CTAB during the sulfurization step. Furthermore, the free-binder CuCo2S4 electrode showed a high specific capacitance of 429 F g−1 in the negative potential window of −1.0–0.0 V vs. Ag/AgCl at a current density of 1 A g−1. The symmetric CuCo2S4//CuCo2S4 capacitor stored a high energy density of 63 Wh kg−1 at power density of 2800 W kg−1.

Performance of Zr-Based Metal-Organic Framework Materials as In Vitro Systems for the Oral Delivery of Captopril and Ibuprofen.

Zr-based metal-organic framework materials (Zr-MOFs) with increased specific surface area and pore volume were obtained using chemical (two materials, Zr-MOF1 and Zr-MOF3) and solvothermal (Zr-MOF2) synthesis methods and investigated via FT-IR spectroscopy, TGA, SANS, PXRD, and SEM methods. The difference between Zr-MOF1 and Zr-MOF3 lies in the addition of reactants during synthesis. Nitrogen porosimetry data indicated the presence of pores with average dimensions of ~4 nm; using SANS, the average size of the Zr-MOF nanocrystals was suggested to be approximately 30 nm. The patterns obtained through PXRD were characterized by similar features that point to well-crystallized phases specific for the UIO-66 type materials; SEM also revealed that the materials were composed of small and agglomerate crystals. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that both materials had approximately two linker deficiencies per Zr6 formula unit. Captopril and ibuprofen loading and release experiments in different buffered solutions were performed using the obtained Zr-based metal-organic frameworks as drug carriers envisaged for controlled drug release. The carriers demonstrated enhanced drug-loading capacity and showed relatively good results in drug delivery. The cumulative percentage of drug release in phosphate-buffered solution at pH 7.4 was higher than that in buffered solution at pH 1.2. The release rate could be controlled by changing the pH of the releasing solution. Different captopril release behaviors were observed when the experiments were performed using a permeable dialysis membrane.
