Code Generator Development to Transform IFML (Interaction Flow Modelling Language) into a React-based User Interface

Model-Driven Software Engineering (MDSE) is a software development approach that uses the Model to be the main actor of the development. MDSE can be applied to User Interface (UI) Development so that a model for the UI can be built, and then a transformation can be made to turn it into a running application. In this research, we develop UI Generator to support UI Development with the MDSE approach. This UI Generator can also support UI Development in Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) paradigm. The UI is modeled with Interaction Flow Modeling Language (IFML) diagram. Then The IFML diagram is transformed into React-Based UI by the UI Generator. The UI Generator is developed with Acceleo on Eclipse IDE to transform IFML into React Code with the transformation rules defined in this research. The UI generator is also enriched with display settings and static page management to address user customization needs. The experimental results show that the UI Generator can generate a functional website. Besides evaluating the working product, UI Generator is evaluated qualitatively well based on six quality criteria as an SPLE supporting tool.

Holistic personas to increase the novice developer productivity

A deeper understanding and integration with system users' thoughts and emotional experiences are required for user-engaged development. User experience (UX) journey integrates user requirements and problem-solving approaches. The integration of data-driven techniques and user-centric approaches in software development is investigated in this study. It focuses on using the Markov chain model to predict developer productivity based on data gathered while creating personas across three projects. Organizations can gain valuable insights into user needs and requirements by conducting purposeful activities such as strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis, competitor analysis, hypothesis formulation, identification of behavioral variables, mapping interviews, and defining characteristics and objectives. The model has predictive capabilities that allow for more informed decision-making, more efficient resource allocation, and better project planning. The goal of the activity and the model ensure the development of software products that effectively meet the needs of users, resulting in a higher success rate for software development initiatives. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating quantitative and qualitative analysis to drive successful software development projects and increase productivity while meeting user needs. According to the findings of the research conducted from the three projects completed, the proposed methods have similarities, and predictions using the Markov chain can determine the success of novice developers.

Sustaining Digital Assets Through Mobile Estate Planning

Many people own online accounts, with some having financial values like Internet banking, e-wallet and cryptocurrency. In the case of sudden death, their heirs are unaware of the digital assets possessed by the deceased person, which causes the assets to be lost forever, and the heirs might not receive the assets. If an estate plan did not account for digital assets properly, the beneficiaries would not be able to access them. Therefore, this paper addresses this issue by implementing a software development approach in designing a suitable model for sustaining digital assets through smartphones to allow the inheritance of digital assets to the heirs. The software development life cycle was adopted as the methodology to identify the model’s components through four phases: requirements analysis, system design, implementation and test and evaluation. First, this work proposed a model named Mobile Estate Planning for Digital Assets (MEPDA). Second, the study demonstrated the component of the model in a smartphone application, and finally, it was tested and evaluated through a usability study with a group of users. Most users suggested that MEPDA is useful and easy to use. Further, they were also satisfied with its functionalities and features. Mobile application for digital asset estate planning is necessary today due to the exponential increase of digital asset ownership with financial values. It could be one way of helping users to allow an efficient inheritance process for their heirs in the case of death.

From enterprise models to low-code applications: mapping DEMO to Mendix; illustrated in the social housing domain

AbstractDue to hyper-competition, technological advancements, regulatory changes, etc, the conditions under which enterprises need to thrive become increasingly turbulent. Consequently, enterprise agility increasingly determines an enterprise’s chances for success. As software development often is a limiting factor in achieving enterprise agility, enterprise agility and software adaptability become increasingly intertwined. As a consequence, decisions that regard flexibility should not be left to software developers alone. By taking a Model-driven Software Development (MDSD) approach, starting from DEMO ontological enterprise models and explicit (enterprise) implementation design decisions, the aim of this research is to bridge the gap from enterprise agility to software adaptability, in such a way that software development is no longer a limiting factor in achieving enterprise agility. Low-code technology is a growing market trend that builds on MDSD concepts and claims to offer a high degree of software adaptability. Therefore, as a first step to show the potential benefits to use DEMO ontological enterprise models as a base for MDSD, this research shows the design of a mapping from DEMO models to Mendix for the (automated) creation of a low-code application that also intrinsically accommodates run-time implementation design decisions.

Agile meets quantum: a novel genetic algorithm model for predicting the success of quantum software development project

Quantum software systems represent a new realm in software engineering, utilizing quantum bits (Qubits) and quantum gates (Qgates) to solve the complex problems more efficiently than classical counterparts. Agile software development approaches are considered to address many inherent challenges in quantum software development, but their effective integration remains unexplored. This study investigates key causes of challenges that could hinders the adoption of traditional agile approaches in quantum software projects and develop an Agile-Quantum Software Project Success Prediction Model (AQSSPM). Firstly, we identified 19 causes of challenging factors discussed in our previous study, which are potentially impacting agile-quantum project success. Secondly, a survey was conducted to collect expert opinions on these causes and applied Genetic Algorithm (GA) with Naive Bayes Classifier (NBC) and Logistic Regression (LR) to develop the AQSSPM. Utilizing GA with NBC, project success probability improved from 53.17 to 99.68%, with cost reductions from 0.463 to 0.403%. Similarly, GA with LR increased success rates from 55.52 to 98.99%, and costs decreased from 0.496 to 0.409% after 100 iterations. Both methods result showed a strong positive correlation (rs = 0.955) in causes ranking, with no significant difference between them (t = 1.195, p = 0.240 > 0.05). The AQSSPM highlights critical focus areas for efficiently and successfully implementing agile-quantum projects considering the cost factor of a particular project.

Currently, it is known that the attendance system used in this company has an unsatisfactory level of accuracy. Therefore, the author decided to apply GPS technology to increase efficiency in the attendance process, in the hope of providing a better solution for the company. GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System, is a navigation system that uses satellites to identify and synchronize location data from an object on the earth's surface. In this context, the application of GPS technology is considered a strategic step to increase the accuracy of recording employee attendance. This research uses the SDLC Waterfall method as a software development approach. This method involves sequential stages, starting from planning, analysis, design, implementation, testing, to maintenance. The result of this research is the development of a GPS-based attendance website, which is expected to provide an effective solution for improving the attendance system at PT Cempaka Mega Mandiri.

Streamlining Radiology Workflows Through the Development and Deployment of Automated Microservices.

Microservices are a software development approach where an application is structured as a collection of loosely coupled, independently deployable services, each focusing on executing a specific purpose. The development of microservices could have a significant impact on radiology workflows, allowing routine tasks to be automated and improving the efficiency and accuracy of radiologic tasks. This technical report describes the development of several microservices that have been successfully deployed in a tertiary cancer center, resulting in substantial time savings for radiologists and other staff involved in radiology workflows. These microservices include the automatic generation of shift emails, notifying administrative staff and faculty about fellows on rotation, notifying referring physicians about outside examinations, and populating report templates with information from PACS and RIS. The report outlines the common thought process behind developing these microservices, including identifying a problem, connecting various APIs, collecting data in a database, writing a prototype and deploying it, gathering feedback and refining the service, putting it in production, and identifying staff who are in charge of maintaining the service. The report concludes by discussing the benefits and challenges of microservices in radiology workflows, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, interoperability, security, and privacy.

A framework for embedded software portability and verification: from formal models to low-level code

AbstractPorting software to new target architectures is a common challenge, particularly when dealing with low-level functionality in drivers or OS kernels that interact directly with hardware. Traditionally, adapting code for different hardware platforms has been a manual and error-prone process. However, with the growing demand for dependability and the increasing hardware diversity in systems like the IoT, new software development approaches are essential. This includes rigorous methods for verifying and automatically porting Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) to various devices. Our framework addresses this challenge through formal methods and code generation for embedded RTOS. We demonstrate a hardware-specific part of a kernel model in Event-B, ensuring correctness according to the specification. Since hardware details are only added in late modeling stages, we can reuse most of the model and proofs for multiple targets. In a proof of concept, we refine the generic model for two different architectures, also ensuring safety and liveness properties. We then showcase automatic low-level code generation from the model. Finally, a hardware-independent factorial function model illustrates more potential of our approach.

High-Technology Agriculture System to Enhance Food Security: A Concept of Smart Irrigation System Using Internet of Things and Cloud Computing

CONTEXT: Food security is highly reliant on agricultural activity to drive the world economy. However, this activity is in great danger due to climatic changes and improper use of irrigation techniques. Consequently, the lives of numerous individuals worldwide are in jeopardy. In light, this paper investigates the promise of smart irrigation systems based on new technology. OBJECTIVE: To meet the growing demand for water in agriculture, this study presents an intelligent irrigation system that uses cutting-edge technologies of 1) cloud computing, 2) embedded systems, and 3) Internet-of-Things (IoT). The main objective is to demonstrate how this innovative strategy can effectively manage water resources, supporting food security through cutting-edge agricultural technology. METHODS: This paper proposes a smart irrigation system based on cutting-edge technologies like the embedded system, Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing as a groundbreaking strategy to improve food security through the implementation of advanced agricultural technology. This system supervises real-time monitoring of crucial environmental factors such as 1) moisture, 2) humidity, 3) temperature, and 4) water levels, in smart agriculture practices. In addition, this system employs the latest sensors, including the module (DHT22), water level sensor, and moisture sensors, which are connected to the widely used embedded system (ESP32). The system uses the ThingSpeak cloud and ThingView app to enable wireless communication between the device and the farm owner, enhancing their interaction. The automated control of the two water pumps is based on the readings of various environmental factors. Moreover, this will also present a mathematical-driven function known as linear interpolation to calibrate the water level sensor in percentage. This system was created using the V-model software development approach. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Farmers can access comprehensive farm data from anywhere in the world as the sensor data is transmitted in real-time to both the ThingSpeak cloud and the ThingView. This capability allows for more precise crop irrigation and increased production. The study's findings demonstrate a striking 70% reduction in water consumption for soil irrigation when utilizing the proposed smart irrigation system. This paper underscores the significant promise of smart irrigation systems, driven by IoT, embedded systems, and cloud computing, to conserve water resources and advance food security. SIGNIFICANCE: This article proposes an innovative solution that reduces soil irrigation water consumption by 70% compared to traditional methods. It explores how smart irrigation can improve the sustainability of agriculture and positively influence food security.

Implementation of Waterfall Method in Model Development to Improve Learning Quality of Computer Network Courses

This research aims to improve the learning quality of Computer Network course through the implementation of Waterfall method in the development of learning model. Waterfall method, with its focus on systematic and sequential approach in software development, is adapted to design and implement effective learning structure. This study uses qualitative research design with data collection through observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis method to evaluate the effectiveness of Waterfall-based learning model implementation. The results show that the implementation of Waterfall method facilitates structured planning, systematic development of learning materials, and continuous evaluation, which overall contribute to the improvement of learning quality. The developed learning model encourages students' active participation and improves the understanding of key concepts in Computer Networking. This research confirms that the Waterfall method can be effectively used outside the context of software development, particularly in improving the quality of learning in the academic field.

This research aims to develop a mobile application for recording student internship data by applying a software development approach using the Waterfall model. The Waterfall model, known for its linear and structured stages, was chosen to ensure that the development process was carried out in an organized and documented manner. The main objective of this research is to implement a mobile application using the Kodular platform with a focus on recording student internship data, with the hope of increasing efficiency, accuracy and monitoring of internship activities. This research adopts the Waterfall model through the stages of analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance. The analysis stage is carried out to understand the needs and objectives of the application in depth, while the design stage is focused on the required structure and functionality. The implementation phase involves transforming the design into an optimally functioning mobile application. Testing is carried out to ensure application stability and performance, while maintenance is carried out to respond to changing needs or technology updates. By integrating the Waterfall model, this research aims to provide a structured framework that ensures each development stage is carried out carefully. It is hoped that the results of this research can create an efficient mobile application for recording student internship data, so that it can make a positive contribution in increasing efficiency and monitoring internship activities as a whole. Apart from that, this research can also be a reference for future mobile application developers who want to adopt the Waterfall model for similar projects, taking into account special needs and characteristics in the context of recording student internship data.

Abstracts - Sea transportation does not only function to connect regions in Indonesia, in this case shipping is actually one of the main veins of the economy and its strategy is to connect the gaps between regions, in this case the software development approach used in making this website is a linear flow and sequential, involving needs analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. The background explanation above illustrates the need for rapid data collection regarding the seaworthiness of company ships and the causes of ship accidents and the losses they cause. To meet these needs, the idea of making a website-based application is proposed. The computer was chosen as a device that supports the application of the plan, so that the application can facilitate the exchange of information when a ship accident occurs. A linear and sequential software development approach is used, with sequential development phases, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. Various tools, such as XAMPP, Sublime Text Editor 3, PHP, Bootstrap, and MySQL PHPMyadmin, were used in the creation of a seaworthiness information system and shipwreck data. Through this website, related parties, including the Directorate General of the Ministry of Sea Transportation and the National Transportation Safety Commission, can provide information to the public in an efficient and up-to-date manner regarding ship accident incidents.

Coffee is a delightful and popular beverage with various flavor variations. The quality of coffee plays a pivotal role in influencing its taste and aroma. In an effort to enhance coffee quality, this research aims to design and implement a coffee extraction device based on microcontroller technology. Achieving the ideal coffee extraction quality involves factors such as time and temperature. Conventional coffee extraction devices have limitations in consistently controlling these factors. Therefore, the use of microcontrollers as a medium for coffee extraction promises more precise control. This study adopts a hardware and software development approach. Experimental tests, using baristas as samples, were conducted to assess the effectiveness of this device in measuring various types of coffee from Aceh, Toraja, and Flores. Parameters related to taste and aroma were evaluated to measure the extent to which the coffee extraction device could produce extractions that align with the expected flavor standards for coffee enthusiasts. This research successfully implemented an automated coffee measurement function with precision. Test results indicated that this device consistently produces coffee extractions with 98% consistency. In conclusion, this study illustrates the potential of microcontroller-based applications in enhancing the ideal coffee measurement quality. With more precise control, this device assists in creating optimal extraction conditions to achieve the desired flavor for coffee enthusiasts. This potential has a positive impact on elevating the quality of the coffee industry.

An Adapted Technology Acceptance Model (TAM 5) Framework to Enhance User Acceptance and Experience

In the rapidly evolving technological landscape, many companies invest in developing solutions that often fail to gain user acceptance. Understanding the reasons behind these failures is crucial, thus various iterations of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) have been introduced namely: TAM, TAM 2, TAM 3, and TAM 4 IE. Applying these models has shed light on a significant portion of the factors influencing technology acceptance. Nevertheless, it suggests that numerous other factors remain unexplored and need further consideration. This research proposes the Technology Acceptance Model 5 (TAM 5) as an advanced version with additional dimensions and factors to further investigate, aiming to enhance technology acceptance. TAM 5 includes three primary dimensions: First, applying Hybrid Agile-Waterfall software development approach, merging the strengths of both methodologies, to enhance the development process and user satisfaction; Second, applying Hybrid Work Settings of Working from Home (WFH) and Working from Office (WFO), enhancing team collaboration and problem-solving, thereby facilitating technology acceptance; and finally, consideration of Cultural factors, Social customs and traditions, and Time zone differences (CST), all of which may influence technology acceptance. To assess the effectiveness of TAM 5, a questionnaire designed and validated by experts was administered to respondents in the software industry, including professionals from various roles and experience levels. The results were analyzed using multiple regression, and the weights indicate that applying the Hybrid Agile-Waterfall development approach and the Hybrid Work Settings had a significant positive impact on technology acceptance with β values of 0.333 and 0.344 respectively. Cultural factors and traditions had a significant negative influence on technology acceptance with β value of -0.848, while the impact of time zone differences was found to be insignificant with a negligible β value. In conclusion, TAM 5 reveals key dimensions that impact technology acceptance rates, providing valuable insights for businesses and researchers to better understand and address the challenges related to user acceptance of technology in contemporary society.

Agile software development approach for 'ad-hoc' IT projects

Restrictive Scrum assumptions make the effectiveness of this approach debatable in projects deviating from typical execution conditions. This article delivers a comprehensive software development approach for both academic and commercial Information Technology (IT) projects effectuated by teams that are hampered by significantly unsystematic participation of project members and mercurial internal communication. The nature of ‘ad-hoc’ projects imposes another level of difficulty in terms of both managing the conduct of such a project and ensuring the quality of the end product. Multicyclic action research enabled a gradual adaptation of the Scrum approach to support such project conditions. This study introduces major alterations to Sprint implementation and minor enhancements within the documentation process to streamline knowledge sharing among Development Team members. Proposed key alterations include the evolution of Daily Scrum towards Weekly Scrum, the possibility of extending Sprints length, the eventuality to switch team members during Sprint due to substantial failure to meet deadlines, having at least two team members responsible for a single Product Backlog Item (PBI) at all times, as well as exclusion of Burndown Chart in favor for Development Team members updating their working time. Positive validation of enhancements in mixed settings confirms that the generic Scrum framework can be adapted to support highly volatile projects. The proposed approach is suitable not only for carrying out software development initiatives that rely heavily on the skills of external experts and/or volunteers. It also supports traditional Scrum teams that seek to reduce their exposure to risk arising from organizational changes.

: The document processing in the Dean’s Office has been using multiple platforms to create and complete the task which affect work efficiency, convenience, and flexibility. Losing track of documents is also a crucial problem when it comes to documents sharing and processing. That’s why the researchers decided to create a centralized digital workstation where the Dean’s Office of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation Candelaria Inc. can manage all the documents coming from the various departments of the school. Other departments and offices can also use the website to communicate with other offices using collaboration tools and document sharing. Sent documents will be monitored by the sender using the document tracking code generated by the system. Once the transaction or document cycle is completed, it can be archived and saved in the database for backup and future use. All in all the system’s goal is to organize and simplify the workflow inorder to maximize work efficiency. The system also aims to help departments and offices to keep in track of documents, to prevent document loss and confusion between departments. This will greatly improve the document cycle across departments and offices in Enverga Candelaria. The research methodology that the researchers used is Agile software development approach due to the flexibility and freedom it gives not only to the researchers but also to their research locale. It improves communication and collaboration between the researchers and the target research locale during the development process. This ensures that the researchers and the target locale are on the same page when it comes to the specifications and outcome of the system. The methodology also allows the researchers to adjust and apply early and late changes with ease. The researchers expect the system will work and function according to what is being proposed and cope with the problems and issues that the research locale has experienced.

Rancang Bangun Sistem Informasi Pelayanan Administrasi Desa Berbasis Website Menggunakan Metode Prototype di Desa Ciomas Kabupaten Ciamis

This research presents the design and development of a web-based village administration service information system in Ciomas Village, Ciamis Regency. The background of the study is the suboptimal village administration service that still relies on physical form filling and written communication, resulting in delays in serving the community. In this research, the prototype method was chosen as the software development approach, allowing for iteration and active user participation. The system built includes essential features such as citizen data management, online service submission, complaints, validation, verification, tracking, and document downloads. The aim of this research is to build a web-based village administration service information system using the Prototype method. The proposed system will facilitate villagers in accessing administration services online, improve the efficiency of village administration processes, and minimize the potential for human errors in data management. Black box testing and usability testing results show that the system has good learnability and memorability and has incorporated essential features in village administration services. In conclusion, this web-based village administration service information system has the potential to improve the efficiency and quality of village administration services, providing a suitable solution for the issues faced in Ciomas Village and serving as a guide for other villages adopting a similar system.
