To store the results of scientific activity of university teachers, it is necessary to organize their accounting with subsequent prompt and convenient data acquisition. The article discusses the experience of developing and subsequent practical use of the application for accounting and processing scientific papers at the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics. It is noted that the shortcomings of existing software developments in the field of creating bibliographic databases, in particular, the redundancy of information entry parameters, the lack of Russian localization led to the need to create and implement the developed program in the practice of the department. The author and a team of employees, with the involvement of young specialists, carried out work to study the opinion of the teaching staff regarding the possibilities of future development. The article presents the main features of the application, its architecture, a description of the user's actions when entering information into the system, the results of the search for the work of employees, and also shows the final reports generated over a certain time interval. The developed application made it possible to simplify the procedure for storing scientific papers of employees of the University department and, after a short adaptation, can be used in departments with similar goals and objectives.

QR Code Labeling Design for Fixed Asset Management in Accounting Information System PT. Cipta Jaya Perkasa

In an increasingly competitive world of work, the balance between work demands and employees' personal lives is an important issue that affects job satisfaction and productivity. The purpose of this research is to design a fixed asset accounting information system application using QR codes to facilitate inventory in bookkeeping. It can store more comprehensive data, on fixed asset data accurately in recording in each entity. The research method applied is the software development method using Prototyping, where the software creation process will be carried out module by module with testing, starting from tagging, and creating a unique QR code for each fixed asset in each existing entity. The result study results indicate that using technology can make it easier to record assets by simply scanning the QR Code label, which is attached to each asset. So that the process of recording or managing assets can run accurately and quickly. The output of the research is the creation of a web and mobile application to manage asset information systems by utilizing QR Code technology. The implication of this research is for companies to develop wellbeing programs that not only focus on stress reduction but also pay attention to the need for work-life balance. This research also contributes to the development of HR management theory in the context of employee welfare management in modern industries.

Direction of Arrival Estimation of Meteors Echoes using Array Radio Antennas

Array antennas have an interesting role in the radio astronomy field. The array antennas allow astronomers to obtain high-resolution signals with high sensitivity to weak signals. This paper estimates the meteors' positions entering the Earth's atmosphere and develops a simulation for array antenna radar to analyze the meteor's echoes. The GNU radio software was used to process the echoes, which is a free open-source software development toolkit that provides signal processing blocks to implement in radio projects. Then, the simulation determines the azimuth and elevation of the meteors. An improved Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm has been suggested to analyze these echoes. The detected power of each meteor echo has a Doppler frequency shift due to the high speed of the meteors, which impacts the accuracy of the Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation. The Doppler shift was considered in this simulation, and the results showed that the suggested method has low complexity and high resolution and can estimate the meteors' position with the minimum error.

Application of physical and mathematical modeling in the educational process by the example of power plant simulators

This article discusses the application of digital twin technology in thermal power engineering. Special attention is paid to the influence of digital models of the existing equipment of the powerplant on the educational process in higher educational institutions and professional development of service personnel. The article summarizes the results of the introduction of power plant simulators into the curriculum, the methodology of laboratory work and the organization of training sessions. It is also shown that the introduction of physical and mathematical modeling in education and practice contributes to improving the safety and efficiency of work in the energy sector. The results of the introduction of plant simulators into the curriculum are summarized. The software of computer equipment provided for classes at a higher educational institution is considered as a tool for practicing operation skills and creating digital models. When working in a software package, the user is given the opportunity to control units of equipment individually, collectively as a whole unit, or create computational models consisting of simple blocks of equipment. The proposed mutual cooperation between software developers and universities can lead to the creation of digital models to enable retraining of specialists in the workplace, as well as increasing the level of knowledge of graduates. The result of the introduction of a virtual testing ground in a higher educational institution in order to verify the knowledge of students is considered. Thus, the introduction of digital twins into the educational process and practice of work in the thermal power industry is a promising direction for the development of the industry. It contributes to improving the level of training of specialists, ensuring the safety and efficiency of equipment operation, as well as reducing the risks of emergency situations

Algorithm for intelligent procesing of text information

The purpose of research. The goal of the research is to develop an intellectual processing algorithm for classifying text information. As the amount of information grows every day, it is necessary to quickly and efficiently separate significant from unimportant content. Therefore, the development of an intellectual processing algorithm for classifying text information is an urgent task.Methods. A method is proposed for classifying text information presented in one or more natural languages. It is based on 5 key stages: entering a task, accumulating a queue of tasks, processing the task, generating the result of processing the task, outputting the result. The input task is presented in the form of an http request, the body of which contains a file object. If the intensity of the input stream is greater than the processing speed, then an accumulation of tasks occurs. After selecting the active task (using the FIFO principle), it is processed. As a result of the transformations, the received data is decoded into a string using UTF-8 encoding. Processing refers to the process of categorization, when a search for patterns occurs in a line. Upon completion of rubrication, the result for the selected task is generated. From the accumulated result, a response to the original http request is formed, the body of which contains a list of found categories.Results. A method and algorithm for processing text data has been developed to determine the topics that are present in the input data set. The algorithm, implemented in software, allows you to work with text data in various languages.Conclusion. The software development of the text data classification algorithm was carried out in the C++ programming language using the Qt libraries version 5.11. This implementation showed a throughput of 1-5 MB per second (on a homogeneous input text data set). The algorithm allows you to correctly process damaged file formats.

Controlling Virtual Reality With Brain Signals: State of the Art of Using VR-Based Feedback in Neurofeedback Applications.

The rapid progress of commercial virtual reality (VR) technology, open access to VR development software as well as open-source instructions for creating brain-VR interfaces have increased the number of VR-based neurofeedback (NF) training studies. Controlling a VR environment with brain signals has potential advantages for NF applications. More entertaining, multimodal and adaptive virtual feedback modalities might positively affect subjective user experience and could consequently enhance NF training performance and outcome. Nevertheless, there are certain pitfalls and contraindications that make VR-based NF not suitable for everyone. In the present review, we summarize applications of VR-based NF and discuss positive effects of VR-based NF training as well as contraindications such as cybersickness in VR or age- and sex-related differences. The existing literature implies that VR-based feedback is a promising tool for the improvement of NF training performance. Users generally rate VR-based feedback more positively than traditional 2D feedback, albeit to draw meaningful conclusions and to rule out adverse effects of VR, more research on this topic is necessary. The pace in the development of brain-VR synchronization furthermore necessitates ethical considerations on these technologies.

Transforming Software Development Through Generative AI : A Systematic Analysis of Automated Development Practices

This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the transformative impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) on software development practices. Through systematic evaluation of implementations across multiple development environments, this article demonstrates how GenAI technologies significantly enhance four critical areas of the software development lifecycle: code generation, automated testing, intelligent code review, and predictive failure analysis. The findings indicate a 45% reduction in initial code development time through automated code generation, 60% improvement in test coverage through AI-driven test case creation, and 30% decrease in post-deployment issues through predictive failure analysis. The article employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of development metrics from 50 software projects with qualitative assessments from 200 professional developers across diverse organizational contexts. Results reveal that organizations implementing GenAI-assisted development workflows experience a mean productivity increase of 37% while maintaining or improving code quality metrics. Additionally, the article identifies key integration challenges and provides a framework for effective GenAI adoption in software development environments. These findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge on AI-assisted software development and offer practical insights for organizations seeking to optimize their development processes through GenAI integration.

Computational diplomacy: how 'hackathons for good' feed a participatory future for multilateralism in the digital age.

This article explores the role of hackathons for good in building a community of software and hardware developers focused on addressing global sustainable development goal (SDG) challenges. We theorize this movement as computational diplomacy: a decentralized, participatory process for digital governance that leverages collective intelligence to tackle major global issues. Analysing Devpost and GitHub data reveals that 30% of hackathons since 2010 have addressed SDG topics, employing diverse technologies to create innovative solutions. Hackathons serve as crucial kairos moments, sparking innovation bursts that drive both immediate project outcomes and long-term production. We propose that these events harness the neurobiological basis of human cooperation and empathy, fostering a collective sense of purpose and reducing interpersonal prejudice. This bottom-up approach to digital governance integrates software development, human collective intelligence and collective action, creating a dynamic model for transformative change. By leveraging kairos moments, computational diplomacy promotes a more inclusive and effective model for digital multilateral governance of the future. Evaluating small-scale eucalyptus growers’ experience of the EVO mobile application: a comparative analysis of quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques

ABSTRACT Mobile applications (apps) have become widely available as decision support tools in agriculture and forestry worldwide. Owing to the above-mentioned development trend, identifying testing methods that can be easily implemented for evaluating mobile app development targeting rural livelihood-related topics is urgently required. This study examined user experiences with a previously launched and published mobile app (EVO) that small-scale eucalyptus growers can utilize to estimate their gross income and net profit from timber sales. The survey incorporated three user experience assessment methods. The study involved two rounds of data collection regarding the mobile app: the first round concerned version 1.0, whereas the second round referred to version 2.0. The aim was to identify the user experience of the EVO app for guiding further software development to improve its suitability among potential user groups, as well as to estimate the feasibility and usability of survey methods for evaluating mobile apps among smallholders and related stakeholders. The results indicated a remarkable improvement in user satisfaction between the two rounds. Using a combination of system usability scale, user acceptance testing, and quality questions is recommended for collecting valuable and useful feedback for the development of mobile apps.

Incorporation of software in the life cycle assessment of an ICT service: A case study of an ICT service for energy efficiency in the transport sector

AbstractInformation communication and technology (ICT) services and solutions can improve resource efficiency in a variety of sector, but also result in direct environmental impacts. This study assesses the direct environmental impacts of an ICT service that improves vehicle fuel efficiency using a cradle‐to‐grave life cycle assessment (LCA). This is one of the first studies to examine the entire life cycle of an ICT service from development to use and maintenance, with a focus on software—an aspect that is typically neglected in previous studies. The results suggest that software development and maintenance and the use of in‐vehicle communicators for data transmission have the largest environmental impacts across multiple categories. Deployed across a fleet of 150,000 vehicles over 5 years, we estimate that the ICT service is responsible for 174 tCO2e. However, this is negligible compared with the total emissions of the fleet and the potential savings from the service, given a single diesel vehicle in this fleet emits around 130 tCO2e over the same period. We explore several scenarios to reduce the footprint of the ICT service. The largest potential reduction of around one‐third is achieved by replacing in‐house servers with cloud computing in a data center located in a region with low‐carbon electricity. The study demonstrates how LCA can be used to assess the environmental impacts of ICT services and the importance of considering software in these assessments.

Analyzing the Correlation Between Toxic Comments and Code Quality

ABSTRACTSoftware development has a relevant human side, and this could, for example, imply that developers' feelings have an impact on certain aspects of software development such as quality, productivity, or performance. This paper explores the effects of toxic emotions on code quality and presents the SentiQ tool, which gathers and analyzes sentiments from commit messages (obtained from GitHub) and code quality measures (obtained from SonarQube). The SentiQ tool we proposed performs a sentiment analysis (based on natural language processing techniques) and relates the results to the code quality measures. The datasets extracted are then used as the basis on which to conduct a preliminary case study, which demonstrates that there is a relationship between toxic comments and code quality that may affect the quality of the whole software project. This has resulted in the drafting of a predictive model to validate the correlation of the impact of toxic comments on code quality. The main implication of this work is that these results could, in the future, make it possible to estimate code quality as a function of developers' toxic comments.

Live or Let Die: MILSTD 1472 Type Usability Checklists in an Agile Development World

Traditional Human System Integration (HSI) processes are at risk of being eliminated given the industry driven velocity and continuous delivery methods of Agile and Development to Operations Engineering. One such process at risk is usability standard checklists like MIL-STD 1472. The DoD Design Criteria Standard—Human Engineering, or MIL-STD 1472 is a military standard that provides guidelines for the ergonomic design of military systems and equipment. It is primarily focused on ensuring that military systems are designed to optimize human performance, safety, and comfort. However, it can be time-consuming to use given that it contains over 4,400 compliance items in its entirety. In an Agile DevOps environment, the typical delivery of products is 2 weeks with some software products boasting deployments every 11 min. Incorporation of usability and rigorous human factors checklists in the design of products using a DevOps environment is a challenge given the shorter timelines and smaller increments between product development and deployment combined with the expertise and hours needed to execute the checklists. The need for regression testing, the act of re-checking items to make sure new features have not created unforeseen usability issues, exacerbates the problem. Software quality testing for each release demands automatic methods to reduce the efforts of recursive testing. Industry standard methods in agile engineering utilize heuristics for quick turn low-cost usability inspections. This paper describes the derivation of a set of usability heuristics based on MIL-STD 1472 which can be used to identify potential human factors issues more quickly, with less cost, and reduced amount of expertise required. The paper also gives an example of a case study which incorporated automatic checking to support usability experts keeping pace with the high velocity pipelines of software development in an agile DevOps environment.

Neuroendocrine tumors of the stomach and pancreas. Possibilities of application of radiomics. Problems and solutions.

Background. Radiomics is promising tool contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of neuroendocrine neoplasms of various localizations. This method is often used for differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal neoplasms from other neoplasms of this localization.Aim. To demonstrate difficulties in imaging of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors, as well as possibilities of radiomics in differential diagnosis.Materials and methods. Data of 12 patients with morphologically confirmed gastric neoplasms (6 - with neuroendocrine tumor, 6 - with adenocarcinoma) and data of 22 patients with morphologically confirmed pancreatic neoplasms (11 - with neuroendocrine tumor, 11 - with adenocarcinoma) who underwent CT examination of abdominal cavity organs with intravenous contrast before treatment at the Russian Scientific Center of Roentgenoradiology were used in this study. Radiomic features were extracted from the area of manually segmented gastric and pancreatic tumors in the native phase of the CT scans. Processing of the features and statistical analysis were performed using Microsoft Office Excel and free open-source software development environment for the R programming language - R-Studio.Results. Typical and atypical imaging features of gastric and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, peculiarities of contrast, localization and structure of neoplasms were demonstrated on the examples of CT scans. There were 15 radiomic features that were statistically significantly different in patients with neuroendocrine tumors and gastric adenocarcinomas. In the group of patients with neuroendocrine tumors and pancreatic adenocarcinomas, statistically significant differences were observed in 14 radiomic features.Conclusion. Neuroendocrine tumors of the stomach and pancreas are rare neoplasms that are not only clinically silent in most cases, but also difficult to visualize due to their small size and poor contrast characteristics. Texture analysis is a promising tool for the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal neoplasms from other neoplasms of this localization, especially considering the difficulties of biopsy.

From Software Management to Software Ecosystem Governance: A Bibliographic Review on Software Governance Practices Within Organizations and Their Evolution

Objective: The objective of this study is to map the publications that deal with IT Governance and the main aspects of Software development, acquisition and maintenance, identifying when the concepts related to software governance emerged and the main search sources for publications on the subject, highlighting the central issues of each of the emerging contexts. Theoretical Framework: A theoretical framework was used on the organizational structure of IT governance areas, focused on directing, analyzing and monitoring software development, differentiating the typical management activities designed by Juiz and Colomo-Palacios (2020). Method: The methodology adopted for this research comprises a qualitative-quantitative approach, using bibliometrics, bibliographic analysis and the application of a fractional authorship algorithm to identify the main authors to publish on the topic. Data collection was done using a set of search databases such as the Web of Science database and the Scopus database. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed the main authors identified in each of the databases searched, as well as the central themes of the searched themes, indicating the first appearance of each term and its main article. It is also possible to analyze the academic production related to each of these themes. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research indicate fields of research that have become popular, bringing perspectives for future work, as well as fields that are being poorly explored in software development governance and management. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the area of ​​Information Technology management as the main themes studied in governance and management of software development formalize essential concepts for these fields of research and promote process improvement.

RISH Assistance: Voice Activated Digital Assistant for Developers

The increasing use of computing devices brings convenience but also challenges. Traditional interfaces can lead to repetitive strain, slow interactions, and accessibility problemsfor software developers, who often find it hard to turn complex ideas into code, especially with unfamiliar APIs. In response, there is a growing interest in automation and smart machines that act like humans. However, a major obstacle remains—the gap in human-machine interaction. Introducing “RISH Assistance,” a voice-activated digital assis- tant designed for developers. RISH enables users to navigate tasks more efficiently, reducing reliance on screens and tra- ditional input methods. Utilizing advanced voice recognition and Natural Language Processing (NLP), RISH transforms the developer experience by providing easy access to resources, seamless code suggestions, and natural troubleshooting—all through voice commands. Additionally, it can manage phone functions, allowing calls and messages directly from the desktop interface, enhancing productivity. Security is ensured with face authentication, and current session chat history tracking allowsusers to revisit previous interactions. RISH boosts productivity through hands-free interaction, en- abling developers to focus on creative problem-solving. It im- proves accessibility by offering an alternative input method and streamlines workflows, reducing cognitive load while fostering a more intuitive development environment. By facilitating natural and efficient engagement with machines, RISH Assistance aims to enhance human-machine collaboration and create a more inclusive software development landscape.

Software Development Process Considerations in GNSS-Denied Navigation Project for Drones

This article will discuss the software development process utilised in the GNSS-denied navigation project targeted for drones. The process was implemented in an environment where software developers were oriented to developing a source code only and who showed great reluctance to follow any formal process. The mentioned process was a lightweight AGILE-based process that, by assumption, minimised developers’ engagement in activities other than those related to the source code development. The process described in this paper was designed to support and reflect product quality characteristics like functional completeness and correctness, time behaviour, resource utilisation, analysability, modifiability and testability in an “implicit” way. It allowed the developers to achieve those characteristics in an “invisible” manner. This allowed us to achieve acceptable product quality without needing to engage experienced architects. The described process needs improvements and extensions to satisfy certification needs. However, for the prototyping or research phases, it may be a perfect solution for facilitating future product modifications and saving costs. The process improves product quality by underlying the value of transparency, performing specific actions and incorporating specific attributes related to team tasks. This research also focused on finding a metric related to process acceptance in a given environment, resulting in a three-degree scale showing whether the process needed improvements or was accepted by the environment. Such a metric is a new finding and the metric implies that there are some factors that stand behind any process, which determine whether it will be friendly to the environment (people with their habits, work style, personal traits, etc.) or not. However, investigating factors that determine the process acceptance and that are connected to the environment traits were beyond the scope of this research and will be considered in the future.

An empirical study on web API usability: The consumer-developer perspective

The ease with which web APIs facilitate access to diverse resources and services has led to their widespread adoption, consequently giving rise to a new business paradigm: the “API economy”. Given this, usability has become a pivotal attribute for API adoption, and within a competitive market, it merits detailed investigation. This exploratory study presents the findings of a survey targeting both consumers and developers of web APIs. The primary objectives of this survey were (1) to ascertain how respondents perceive various usability factors and (2) to identify potential correlations between specific characteristics of participant profiles and their expressed opinions. To fulfill these objectives, descriptive statistical parameters and independence tests were employed. Results indicate that documentation is regarded as the most influential factor on usability, while the quantity of consecutive parameters of the same type is perceived as the least influential. Furthermore, the findings reveal that expert opinions do not deviate significantly from those of non-experts, and that a respondent's experience as a software developer and with web APIs can influence their perceptions regarding certain factors.

Dynamic Buffer Management in Massively Parallel Systems: The Power of Randomness

Massively parallel systems, such as Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), play an increasingly crucial role in today’s data-intensive computing. The unique challenges associated with developing system software for massively parallel hardware to support numerous parallel threads efficiently are of paramount importance. One such challenge is the design of a dynamic memory allocator to allocate memory at runtime. Traditionally, memory allocators have relied on maintaining a global data structure, such as a queue of free pages. However, in the context of massively parallel systems, accessing such global data structures can quickly become a bottleneck even with multiple queues in place. This paper presents a novel approach to dynamic memory allocation that eliminates the need for a centralized data structure. Our proposed approach revolves around letting threads employ random search procedures to locate free pages. Through mathematical proofs and extensive experiments, we demonstrate that the basic random search design achieves lower latency than the best-known existing solution, Ouroboros, in most situations. Furthermore, we develop more advanced techniques and algorithms to tackle the challenge of warp divergence and further enhance performance when free memory is limited. Building upon these advancements, our mathematical proofs and experimental results affirm that these advanced designs can yield an order of magnitude improvement over the basic design and consistently outperform the state-of-the-art by up to two orders of magnitude. To illustrate the practical implications of our work, we integrate our memory management techniques into two GPU algorithms: a hash join and a group-by. Both case studies provide compelling evidence of our approach’s pronounced performance gains.

Continuous Evolution of Digital Twins using the DarTwin Notation

AbstractDespite best efforts, various challenges remain in the creation and maintenance processes of digital twins (DTs). One of those primary challenges is the constant, continuous and omnipresent evolution of systems, their user’s needs and their environment, demanding the adaptation of the developed DT systems. DTs are developed for a specific purpose, which generally entails the monitoring, analysis, simulation or optimisation of a specific aspect of an actual system, referred to as the actual twin (AT). As such, when the twin system changes, that is either the AT itself changes, or the scope/purpose of a DT is modified, the DTs usually evolve in close synchronicity with the AT. As DTs are software systems, the best practices or methodologies for software evolution can be leveraged. This paper tackles the challenge of maintaining a (set of) DT(s) throughout the evolution of the user’s requirements and priorities and tries to understand how this evolution takes place. In doing so, we provide two contributions: (i) we develop , a visual notation form that enables reasoning on a twin system, its purposes, properties and implementation, and (ii) we introduce a set of architectural transformations that describe the evolution of DT systems. The development of these transformations is driven and illustrated by the evolution and transformations of a family home’s DT, whose purpose is expanded, changed and re-prioritised throughout its ongoing lifecycle. Additionally, we evaluate the transformations on a laboratory-scale gantry crane’s DT.

Exploring the Critical Benefits and Challenges of Social Network Site-Based Requirement Elicitation in Saudi Arabia

The digital transformation and proliferation of social network sites (SNSs) have created new opportunities to consider digital sources to support the development of software systems. Social network sites (SNSs), such as Twitter and Facebook, can be major sources used during the process of requirement elicitation to identify and extract users’ requirements. The primary objective of SNS-based requirement elicitation is to overcome the limitations of the traditional requirement elicitation methods. However, these valued resources for requirement elicitation are yet to be fully exploited. Software products might not fulfill users’ needs owing to the numerous challenges in processing the data effectively. This study aims to explore the actual use, benefits, and challenges of SNS-based requirement elicitation. Twenty-five practitioners in the software companies in Saudi Arabia were interviewed, and thematic analysis was conducted on the interview data. With the application of the TOE model, five critical benefits and nine challenges were identified and classified into technological, organizational, and environmental contexts. The findings of this study offer valuable implications for researchers and practitioners by providing fine-grained details about the adoption of SNS-based requirement elicitation that could eventually facilitate its implementation effectively.
