Exploring the consumer perception of seafood: A look at Brazilians

Although Brazil has a wide variety of marine aquaculture species, production is still incipient compared to the world's main producers, and consequent consumption by the population does not reach recommended levels. Understanding the reasons that lead consumers to low consumption of seafood and scallops can help leverage the sector, favoring the local gastronomy, in addition to enhancing the consumption of good quality proteins. The word association (WA) technique, modulated by the food neophobia and the socio-demographic profiles of participants, was used to investigate the perception of Brazilian consumers in relation to seafood and scallops with the aim to contribute to the development of strategies that can collaborate to increase the consumption of these products. The study was carried out with 738 people (56% female). The associations generated by participants were mainly related to positive hedonic characteristics: tasty, delicious and good, especially when they were asked about seafood. These positive hedonic characteristics were less mentioned for scallops and mainly among participants who do not consume seafood regularly. In general, income, consumption habits and lack of knowledge about scallops can interfere with the frequency of the mollusk consumption. The degree of food neophobia played a role on participant's task and the associations generated by low and medium food neophobia consumers for seafood were mainly related to positive hedonic characteristics. The results provided interesting information on consumers' perceptions of seafood and scallops and may contribute to the development of products that better meet consumer expectations, contributing to the expansion and diversification of the local culinary.

Crowdsourcing Pleasantness and Safety Perceptions: An Analysis through Multiple Rankings and Socio-Demographic Groups

ABSTRACT Our perception of public spaces guides our behavior on them. Understanding which factors shape this perception informs both urban planners, who aim to improve city life, as well as computational models that help us navigate urban spaces. Crowdsourcing games have been employed to evaluate citizens’ perceptions of urban scenes at scale. This work contributes to crowdsourcing studies by evaluating different strategies to aggregate perceptions and rank scenes, as well as investigating the relation of captured perceptions with features of the urban form and the socio-demographic profile of participants.

Evalutation of the Additional Kabat’s Method Versus Conventional Physiotherapy in the Rehabilitation of Buruli Ulcer Patients (BUP), with Functional Limitations in the District Hospital of Akonolinga, Cameroon

Buruli ulcer (BU) is a chronic infection, indolent necrotizing disease of the skin and underlying tissues caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans, which may result in functional disability. This disease is the third most frequent infection after leprosy and tuberculosis caused by a mycobacterium. The main objective of this study was to determine comparative effectiveness of conventional physiotherapy alone to its association with Kabat’s method in the management of post-Buruli ulcer functional limitations. This was an interventional randomized, comparative and prospective study. It took place at the district hospital of Akonolinga from the12th June to 12th September 2016. Were included, post- Buruli ulcer patients who matched the eligibility criteria, were under treatment in the physiotherapy unit, and who accepted to participate in our study. A questionnaire on the socio-demographic profile of participants, the ulcer localization, the limitation stage, previous medical history and functional mobility assessment scale was administered to the subjects before and after the intervention, which lasted for twelve weeks. We had 2 groups: the case group received association of Kabat technique to conventional physiotherapy and the control group received conventional physiotherapy alone. We had 22 patients, 11 patients for the experimental group, 11 patients for the control group. The mean age was 26.18 years, 54.5% of female participation, 68.2% of leg localization, 59.1% patients with severe limitations of functional mobility, and preference for traditional medication 95.5%. After evaluation of efficiency we concluded that there was no statistically significant difference between the two treatment protocols. Further studies with larger sample size are recommended.

A descriptive study to assess the experiences of mothers of infants (42 days-6 months of age) on respectful maternity care residing in Dadu Majra Colony, UT, Chandigarh (2021-2022)

Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) is right to receive dignified and respectful care by health care worker and right to freedom from harm. “The relationship between the lack of quality care and adverse maternal outcome has been highlighted globally. RMC include respect for women autonomy, dignity, feelings, privacy choices and freedom from ill-treatment, coercion, consideration for personal preference include option for companionship during maternity care.” To assess the experiences of mothers of infants (42 days- 6 months of age) regarding RMC residing in Dadu Majra colony UT. Chandigarh. This descriptive study was conducted on 133 mother of infants (42 days-6 month of age) residing in one semi urban area of Chandigarh, by using total enumeration sampling technique. The ethical clearance was given by the Ethics committee of NINE, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Tool used for data collection was interview schedule comprised of three parts : 1) Socio demographic profile of participants 2) Obstetrical profile of participants 3) Interview schedule to assess RMC, in the form of Likert scale in which 43 items scored into 5 categories i.e All the times (5). Sometimes (4). Often (3), Rarely (2) and Never (1). Data was collected by interviewing the participants as per interview schedule after taking informed written consent. Data was analysed by SPSS 20 version.Majority of the participants (90.2%) received very good RMC, other 7.3% received RMC and 2.3% received fair RMC. Most of the mothers received very good care in domain of dignified care (91.7%), equitable care (100.0%), highest attainable level of care (78.9%). freedom from harm (89.5%) and informed consent (88%) while the domain of privacy and confidential care 52.6% mothers received good respectful maternity care.Majority of the participant received the very good RMC, only few of the participants reported abusive cares such as yelling by the HCW and the security guards, slapped on the thighs etc.

Evaluación de las estrategias formativas digitales para profesionales sanitarios implementadas durante la pandemia por COVID 19

Objective: to evaluate the implementation of the microlearning educational strategy through the use of a mobile application for the healthcare professionals of a university hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: a survey was conducted on hospital staff. The visualizations of knowledge pills were monitored. The questionnaire allowed to collect information about the sociodemographic profile of participants, the use of educational mobile applications, and of the pills created ad hoc during the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of users registered in the application was of 4,572. The data obtained were analysed through descriptive analysis, using the Student’s T test and the ANOVA test for bivariate analyses. Results: the study included 633 professionals, with a mean age (SD) of 44.8 (11.1) years; 81.7% (n= 517) were female and 93.5% (n= 592) were healthcare professionals. Nurses represented 41.2% (n= 261) of the sample, and doctors 22.3% (n= 141). During the pandemic, 55.8% (n= 353) of the study subjects had worked providing direct assistance to COVID (+) patients; 94% (n= 595) visualized videos for training / getting information for their professional setting; and 94.9% reported awareness of the knowledge pills by the Formación SanidadMadrid App. The 22 knowledge pills received 25,539 visualizations in total. There was high satisfaction by participants regarding the use of this method for their training during the pandemic. Conclusions: the microlearning educational strategy, based on knowledge pills available at a mobile application, demonstrated being a key element for the development of new digital training methodologies in the hospital setting during a pandemics scenario.

The effect of behavioral therapy based counseling with anxious mothers on their infants' colic: a randomized controlled clinical trial

BackgroundGiven the possible effect of maternal anxiety on the severity of colic pain in infants, this study aimed to investigate the effects of behavioral therapy counseling on infantile colic (primary outcome), maternal anxiety, and mother-infant attachment (secondary outcomes) in anxious mothers with colicky infants.MethodThis randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on 46 anxious mothers of 2–6-weeks-old exclusively breastfed colicky infants who had a score of 112 and above according to the Postpartum Specific Anxiety Scale (PSAS), reffered to the pediatric clinics of Al-Zahra, Taleghani and Children Hospitals of Tabriz, Iran. The participants were randomly assigned to the intervention (n = 23) and control (n = 23) groups using randomized block design. Mothers in the intervention group attended 8 systematic desensitization counseling sessions (2–3 sessions per week). Those in the control group received routine care. The researcher completed the Postpartum Specific Anxiety Scale (PSAS), Mother-Infant Attachment Questionnaire (MIAQ), and Infant Colic Scale (ICS) by interviewing the participants before and two weeks after the intervention.ResultsThere was no significant difference between the intervention and control groups in the socio-demographic profile of participants. After the intervention, the mean postpartum anxiety score of women in the intervention group was significantly lower than that of those in the control group (Mean Difference (MD) = 22.5, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 2.3 to 42.7; p = 0.029). The mean infant colic score of the infants of mothers in the intervention group was insignificantly lower than that of those in the control group (MD = -2.9, 95% CI = -8.3 to 2.4; p = 0.271). In addition, no significant difference was observed between the two groups in terms of their mean mother-infant attachment scores (MD = -0.04, 95% CI = -3.1 to 0.3; p = 0.976).ConclusionBehavioral therapy counseling effectively reduced postpartum anxiety in women with colicky infants; however, this reduction did not lead to a significant decrease in the infants’ colic pain. Effect of Hope-oriented group counseling on mental health of infertile women with failed IVF cycles: a randomized controlled trial

BackgroundConsidering the prevalence of infertility in the community and the consequences of failure of infertility treatments on women’s mental health, interventions that can control stress, anxiety and depression in infertile women with a history of IVF failure will be very helpful. This study aimed to determine the effects of hope-oriented group counseling on mental health (primary outcome) and quality of life (QoL) (secondary outcome) of women with failed IVF cycles.MethodThis randomized controlled trial was conducted on 60 women with failed IVF cycles visiting Infertility Clinic at Al-Zahra Teaching Hospital of Tabriz- Iran. Participants were allocated to the intervention group (n = 30) and control group (n = 30) based on a randomized block design. Hope-oriented group counseling was provided to the intervention group in six 45–60 min sessions (once a week). The control group only received routine care to undergo another IVF cycle. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) and the SF-12 Quality of Life Scale were filled out by interviewing the participants before the intervention and one week and one month after the intervention. After intervention 26 participants in each group were included in the analysis.ResultsThere was no significant difference between the intervention and control groups in the socio-demographic profile of participants (P > 0.05). The post-intervention mean score of stress (adjusted mean difference = − 1.7, 95% confidence interval: − 3.2 to − 0.3, P = 0.018) and depression (adjusted mean difference = − 1.3, 95% confidence interval: − 4.7 to − 1.5, P < 0.001) was significantly lower in the intervention group compared to the control. Although the mean anxiety score was lower in the intervention group compared to the control, the difference between them was not statistically significant (adjusted mean difference = − 1.1, 95% confidence interval: − 2.6 to 0.4, P = 0.153). The mean score of QoL was significantly higher in the intervention group than that of the control group (adjusted mean difference = 6.9, 95% confidence interval: 5.1 to 8.8, P < 0.001).ConclusionHope-oriented group counseling was effective in reducing stress and depression and improving QoL in women with failed IVF cycles. It is recommended to use this counseling approach, along with other methods, to improve the mental health of women with failed IVF cycles.Trial registrationTCT Registration Number: TCTR 20191017003, registered on October 17, 2019.

Nutritional profile of Kolagur tribal women in Yercaud, Tamil Nadu, India: An exploratory study

Background: Malnutrition is a long-standing global health issue to which the tribal population are highly vulnerable. Timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment is crucial. Aim: The aim of the study is to assess the nutritional status of tribal women in Kolagur, Yercaud, using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary assessment parameters. Subjects and Methods: An exploratory study was carried out among women (n = 100) between 18 and 60 years of age from Kolagur, a tribal village in Yercaud taluk, Salem district, Tamil Nadu, India. Information on sociodemographic profile of participants was collected using a structured interview schedule. Anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary parameters were assessed using appropriate standard techniques/tools. Nutrient intake was computed using Diet Cal software and the statistical analysis was done using IBM SPSS statistics software version 25. Results: Majority of the participants were malnourished of which 25% were underweight, 20% were obese, and 17% were overweight. The mean waist-to-hip ratio (mean ± standard deviation: 0.87 ± 0.13) was marginally higher than the normal cutoff value for women. The prevalence of anemia was much lower where only 21% had mild anemia, 5% had moderate anemia, and 1% had severe anemia. About 21% were prediabetic and 9% were diabetic. Majority (51%) of the participants had altered blood pressure levels with 20% in hypertension Stage 2, 19% in prehypertensive stage, and 12% in hypertension Stage 1. The mean intake of nutrients such as energy, thiamine, ascorbic acid, and folate was significantly higher than the recommended dietary allowances (RDA), whereas the mean intake of fat, retinol, riboflavin, pyridoxine, calcium, and iron was significantly lesser than the RDA. Conclusions: The findings of this study highlight the urgent need for well-planned nutrition-oriented health policies at the community level to eradicate the double burden of malnutrition.

Multiple linear regression approach to deduce Internet addiction impact on the psychosocial wellness of young medical students

Background: The Internet is an inevitable part of life especially in the education sector, but at the same time irrational use of the Internet causes behavioral disorders. A high number of personality disorders such as impulsive behavior, depression, anxiety, and stress were also observed among medical students. Aim and Objectives: Hence, the present study hypothesized to find out the association of depression, anxiety, and stress with Internet addiction (IA) among young medical students. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 250 1st-year medical students after taking ethics approval and written informed consent. Personal information and socio-demographic profile of participants were obtained. Young IA Test and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) survey questionnaire was self-administered by participants. To identify the risk and protective factors for IA with DASS-21 step-wise multiple linear regression analyses were performed. Results: The prevalence of IA was 24.0 % with mean scores (±Standard Deviation [SD]) of 39.01 (±16.99) among the medical students. Depression, anxiety, and stress mean scores (±SD) were 5.44 (±4.21), 4.94 (±3.84), 6.77 (±3.83), respectively. Students with IA had a statistically significant difference (P = 0.001) in all domains of DASS-21 over the non-internet addicted. A statistically significant positive relationship of IA with depression (coefficient of determination (R2), (R2 = 0.22)), anxiety (R2 = 0.26), and stress (R2 = 0.33) were observed. Conclusions: 1/4th of the medical students were internet-addicted and 3.0% having severe anxiety. 22.0% of depression, 26.0% of anxiety, and 33.0% of stress among young medical students are attributable to IA. The rational use of the internet should be learned for psychological health and well-being.

Impacts of Urban Agriculture on the Determinants of Health: Scoping Review Protocol.

BackgroundSince the 1990s, urban agriculture (UA) has contributed to improving food security in low- and middle- income countries. Now, it is implemented as a multifunctional intervention that can influence various determinants of health (eg, food security, social relationships). Studies of interest stem from several research disciplines, use a wide range of methods, and show results that are sometimes inconsistent. Current studies have not summarized the overall effects of UA on health and its determinants.ObjectiveThe objective of this protocol is to develop a research strategy for a scoping review that characterizes studies of beneficial and adverse impacts of UA on health and its determinants in a wide range of disciplines.MethodsInitially, with the help of a library specialist, a list of publications will be obtained through a systematic search of seven electronic bibliographic databases: PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE (Embase), CINAHL Plus with full text, Academic Search Premier (EBSCO host), CAB (Ovid), and Web of Science. Secondly, a three-step screening by two independent reviewers will lead to a list of relevant publications that meet eligibility and inclusion criteria. Finally, data on the bibliography, type of participants, type of study, results of study, and countries will be extracted from included articles and analyzed to be presented in a peer-reviewed article.ResultsThe findings are expected to identify research gaps that will inform needs for UA research in specific fields (eg, mental health), among certain population groups (eg, adults) or within different economic contexts (eg, low-, middle-, or high-income countries). Furthermore, the findings are expected to identify knowledge gaps and direct future research needs.ConclusionsThis is an original study that seeks to integrate beneficial and adverse effects of UA on health at different level of influence (individuals, households, and community) in order to facilitate a better understanding of UA impacts. This protocol is a first of its kind and is expected to lead to a characterization of UA impacts based on sociodemographic profiles of participants and income levels of the studied countries. This will be relevant for policy makers and UA practitioners.

The Practice of Counseling in Pharmacy: Patients’ Perspectives

Aim: The objective of the study was to assess pharmacists’ counseling practices from the patient perspective using the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Medication Counseling Behavior Guidelines (MCBG) questionnaire. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted over 4 months in the outpatients section of the pharmacy department in two tertiary care hospitals: King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, and King Fahad Medical City. Participants were randomly selected to complete the USP-MCBG questionnaire, and gave their full consent to the data collector. USP-MCBG questionnaire is an interactive approach between the patient and the pharmacist, which takes into account the patient’s special needs, beliefs and perceptions about medication use .The questionnaire included 33 items with a two-point response scale. The questionnaire was divided into four sections corresponding to the four stages of the medication counseling process. Results: During the study period, 520 subjects were enrolled and of these, 486 responded to our questionnaire (response rate: 93%). The study population was gender balanced; most respondents (88%) were Saudi nationals, and 49% reported having at least high school education. There were no differences between the socio-demographic profiles of participants at the two study sites. The overall mean USP-MCBG score of satisfaction was 3.18 ± 0.11 (highest score is 5). Within subsections of the questionnaire, ‘Management of treatment’ scored the highest (1.14 ± 0.05) and ‘Communication’ scored the lowest (0.35 ± 0.03). In terms of medication counseling, more than >80% of patients had a positive perception and were satisfied with the performance of outpatient pharmacists. At almost all stages of the counseling process, there was a slightly inversely proportional relationship between patient age and satisfaction with pharmacist performance.Conclusion: Using the USP-MCB guidelines, patients’ perception of and satisfaction with pharmacists counseling in the outpatient setting was positive. Greater effort is needed to ensure effective counseling services in particular subpopulations, such as in the elderly. In general, patients were more satisfied with pharmacist counseling pertinent to “management of treatment”, however, they were less satisfied regarding the pharmacists’ way of communication.

Assessment of Response Consistency and Respective Participant Profiles in the Internet-based NutriNet-Sante Cohort

Whereas the feasibility and effectiveness of Internet-based epidemiologic research have been established, methodological support for the quality of such data is still accumulating. We aimed to identify sociodemographic differences among members of a French cohort according to willingness to provide part of one's 15-digit national identification number (personal Social Security number (PSSN)) and to assess response consistency based on information reported on the sociodemographic questionnaire and that reflected in the PSSN. We studied 100,118 persons enrolled in an Internet-based prospective cohort study, the NutriNet-Santé Study, between 2009 and 2013. Persons aged 18 years or more who resided in France and had Internet access were eligible for enrollment. The sociodemographic profiles of participants with discordant data were compared against those of participants with concordant data via 2-sided polytomous logistic regression. In total, 84,442 participants (84.3%) provided the first 7 digits of their PSSN, and among them 5,141 (6.1%) had discordant data. Our multivariate analysis revealed differences by sex, age, education, and employment as regards response consistency patterns. The results support the quality of sociodemographic data obtained online from a large and diverse volunteer sample. The quantitative description of participant profiles according to response consistency patterns could inform future methodological work in e-epidemiology.

Who Plays What? Participation Profiles in Chance Versus Skill-based Gambling

To determine whether gambling participation falls into skill and chance-based categories and, if so, to determine the socio-demographic characteristics associated with these different categories. A cross-sectional analysis of all respondents to the 2005 Northern Territory Gambling Prevalence Survey who gambled in the 12 months prior to the survey. Factor analysis was employed to determine whether a chance versus skill-based dichotomy described the structure of gambling participation. Gambler preference groups were constructed using the median of rotated factor scores. Multinomial logit regression was then used to determine independent associations between explanatory variables and categories of gambler preferences. The skill and chance-based dichotomy did describe player preferences for the sample of adult gamblers in the Northern Territory, Australia. Gender, age, household income, household structure and the geographic location (access to gambling opportunities) of respondents were all associated with different degrees of participation in skill and chance based gambling activities. Notably, respondents 35 years and over were significantly over-represented in the low-skill/high-chance participation group, and under-represented in the high-skill/low-chance group. It is clear that the term gambling is a confounding rubric that hides differences both in the type of activity and the socio-demographic profiles of participants. An examination of the latter raises important questions about the role of chance in later life, as well as the role of self-determination in gambling for other groups, particularly younger men.

Demand for University Continuing Education in Canada: Who Participates and Why?

The demand for and participation in continuing education by Canadian university graduates who completed bachelor and/or first professional degrees in 1995 are analyzed in this article. Within five years of completing their first degree, in addition to participating in graduate programs, a large number of those graduates participated in non-degree programs and courses for career and job purposes and for personal reasons. Through a descriptive analysis of National Graduate Survey (NGS) data for the 1995 cohort, the authors examined the socio-demographic profile of participants, their motives for participating in continuing education, and their choice of specific programs. According to the study findings, the respondents' labour-market situation, both in objective and subjective terms, was an important reason for participating in continuing education; indeed, more than three-quarters of participants had a job/education-related reason for participating in continuing education. In particular, the study provides information and insight into the demand (expressed and latent) of a targeted university continuing education audience. The National Graduate Survey together with Adult Education and Training Survey (AETS) and institutional data, allow a more realistic assessment of participants' needs and program preferences.
