Current Opinion in Anesthesiology was launched in 1988. It is one of a successful series of review journals whose unique format is designed to provide a systematic and critical assessment of the literature as presented in the many primary journals. The field of anesthesiology is divided into 16 sections that are reviewed once a year. Each section is assigned a Section Editor, a leading authority in the area, who identifies the most important topics at that time. Here we are pleased to introduce the Section Editors for this issue. SECTION EDITORS Emilia GuaschEmilia GuaschDr Emilia Guasch, MD, PhD. graduated in medicine in 1986 from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain and trained in anesthesia in Madrid, Spain (1989–1992). She developed an early interest in obstetric anesthesia, as she was working from 1993 in “Hospital Universitario La Paz. Madrid”, one of the biggest maternal university hospitals in Spain, with nearly 10000 deliveries during many years. Dr Guasch's PhD was about the comparison of different anesthetic techniques on in vitro fertilization techniques and its relation to fertility outcomes. This PhD was published in the Spanish Journal of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation (REDAR) and received the National Anesthesia Prize “Fidel Pagés Prize”. In 2003, Dr Guasch became Honorary Professor in the School of Medicine in “Universidad Autónoma de Madrid”. She has published articles in national and international journals. She is one of the two editors of the three editions of National Spanish Protocols in Obstetric Anesthesia. She has been Head of Division “Hospital Universitario La Paz” Madrid, Spain, since 2007. In 2013, Dr Guasch became Vice-President of the Spanish Society of Anesthesia and Reanimation (SEDAR) and Member of ESA Obstetric Anesthesia subcommittee, since 2015. In 2018, she was elected as Honorary Secretary of the European Board of Anesthesia (EBA). Dr Guasch received a grant for completing observation in Oxford University Hospitals in 2012, and she received eight grants from the American Austrian Foundation in Salzburg, Austria across different topics, between 2012 and 2018. In 2020, Dr Guasch became a member of the ESA Gender Equity Committee.
