A Theoretical Review: Globalization and Preventing Premarital Sex

Background: Globalization is a double-edged sword since it improves human efficiency and effectiveness along with the development of technology. However, the negative impacts of globalization hit developing countries hard, such as the fading of traditional culture and people's tendency to be dependent on developed countries, or people imitate the negative behavior of those living in developed countries. Aims: This paper conceptualizes premarital sex behavior, which is a problem in the social environment that occurs in Indonesian society and generally in Islamic countries. The author will reveal sexual problems experienced by adolescents in terms of social phenomena in modern times. In addition, the impact of adolescent sexual behavior before marriage will also be discussed in this article, both in social, cultural, and religious settings. The author also offers alternative solutions to prevent premarital sex behavior in adolescents by looking at the role of the family, social environment, and educational institutions. Method: We use the Theory of Planned Behavior and Social Learning Theory approaches to explore the direction of adolescent behavior in making decisions. Results: As a result, our model can contribute to future research to research adolescent premarital sex behavior, especially in countries affected by globalization. In addition, we also offer a research model by formulating several propositions that will be a guide for further research. Conclusion: Globalization is very influential and we feel it in everyday life. Conditions such as promiscuity, negative internet, premarital sex, etc. can be found in social life. This condition cannot be avoided, which is something that should happen and needs to be addressed wisely by the whole community, especially parents who have teenage children. Several alternatives are offered to overcome this problem, among others, through educational institutions, the role of the family, and the social environment. These three factors are an alternative to preventing adolescent associations that lead to premarital sex.

The role of trained cadres to find new cases of leprosy with a social learning theory approach in the City of Bima, Indonesia

The role of empowering health cadres to change their perceptions of leprosy is very important for early detection. The aim of the research is to determine the role of trained cadres to find new cases of leprosy with a social learning theory approach. The quasi-experimental method was used in this study to identify new cases of leprosy, with a sample of 20 trained cadres and 20 untrained samples as controls. The data collected were then processed using the Mann-Whitney. The distribution of leprosy case findings in the control group revealed 17 negative cases and three suspected cases, and the distribution of leprosy case findings in the treatment group revealed 12 negative cases, one suspected case, and seven positive cases. On the results of the Mann-Whitney test, it was found that the value of p=0.03 <0.05 and the difference in the mean rank of the treatment was 23.52 and the mean rank in the control was 17.48. In conclusion, there was a difference in the range of case findings between the control and treatment groups that received leprosy identification training using social learning methods. The recommendation is to explore potential factors that may contribute to the observed differences in case findings.

Analysis of the rate of working women's acceptance of partner violence and cultural reflections in Cypriot society.

This case study aims to measure the level of acceptance of violence among women and couples and to reveal the level of acceptance within and outside the families of women who have participated in working life. The concepts of anger and violence, physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and economic violence, which are the sub-components of violence, violence in dating, and marital relations are examined separately according to Feminism and Social Learning Theory approaches. The Working Group was formed by applying questionnaires to 50 participants from the cities of Kyrenia, Güzelyurt, Lefke, Nicosia, and Magusa and determining the 20 participants with the highest level of acceptance of violence. The 11 people who agreed to the study were interviewed for a Dec of 1 week and 5 sessions ranging from 20 to 30 min. It is observed that women who are subjected to violence have a deep sense of helplessness and accept their helplessness, as well as those women resort to various passive solutions, such as silence and avoiding attitudes that make their partner angrier. The sense of helplessness, as a result of chronic depression, makes it inevitable to experience suicide cases. This study will be particularly important in terms of revealing the levels of domestic and non-family violence exposure and acceptance of violence by women who have participated in working life.

Organizational Commitment, Competence on Job Satisfaction and Lecturer Performance: Social Learning Theory Approach

The purpose of this study is to measure employee performance seen from the achievement of lecurer work. Furthermore, the research design is structured in such a way that the researcher obtains answers to the research questions. The research sample is 244 lecturer in Indonesia, data collection with online survey. The results showed that organizational commitment had a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. Feel happy, think, emotionally attached, worry, sense of belonging, little choice, alternative, sacrifice, loyal, obligation, loyal, work, one organization, wise, and make a very strong contribution. Competence directly has a significant positive effect on employee job satisfaction. This means that through the competencies possessed by lecturer Competence directly has a significant positive effect on employee performance. Competencies possessed by lecturer give a real meaning to employee performance. Job satisfaction directly has a significant positive effect on employee performance. Organizational commitment indirectly has a positive and insignificant effect on performance through job satisfaction. Competence indirectly has a significant positive effect on performance through job satisfaction.

Clustering of Endorsements of Techniques of Neutralization as Predictors of Offending Among College Students: A Latent Profile Analysis Approach

Past research has provided evidence that techniques of neutralization may be used to rationalize offending, and individuals who endorse such rationalizations demonstrate greater offending risk. However, there is a dearth of research focused on how the endorsement of multiple techniques of neutralization may cluster together within an individual. There is also little understanding of how different clusters predict offending risk. The present study utilized data from 248 undergraduate students. Latent profile analysis was utilized to identify unobserved clusters of stronger/weaker endorsement of techniques of neutralization. Logistic regression was utilized to model the impact of differential clustering to predict offending risk. Results indicated that a five-profile solution best fits the data (low, responsibility deniers, moderate, victim deniers, and high). Participants assigned to the high profile demonstrated elevated offending risk relative to participants assigned to any of the other profiles. Participants assigned to the high profile reported relatively high endorsement of all techniques of neutralization but especially appeal to higher loyalties and denial of injury. Identification of college students demonstrating endorsement of techniques of neutralization consistent with the high profile should be targeted for intervention. Mentoring programs that take a social learning theory approach may be useful in this regard.

Applying a social learning theoretical framework to music therapy as a prevention and intervention for bullies and victims of bullying

Bullying is a growing worldwide problem largely affecting school-aged youth and, to date, there is no music therapy literature specific to bullying. As a result, there is no guidance for applying theoretical frameworks or for developing music therapy interventions for bullies and victims of bullying. After synthesizing the literature and determining the characteristics and behaviors of bullies and victims, the authors applied social learning theory as a framework to conceptualize the behaviors and cognitions of bullies and victims and to design age appropriate music therapy interventions. Based from concepts of social learning theory and existing music therapy research with adolescents, the authors provide suggestions of music therapy interventions for both bullies and victims. It seems that a social learning theory approach to music therapy interventions might represent an appropriate approach to frame treatments for both bullies and the victims of bullying. Prevention and intervention efforts at various age and developmental levels using music therapy may be more engaging, motivating, and effective than prevention and intervention efforts without music. The proposed interventions may be a helpful initiator for music therapists working with school-aged populations on the issues of bullying.

The relationships among alcohol treatment, coping skills, and self-efficacy in predicting alcohol use and related consequences following treatment initiation were investigated. The participants were 77 men and 65 women who were entering either inpatient or outpatient alcohol treatment. The analyses confirmed predictions that treatment, coping skills, and self-efficacy each contributed significantly to the prediction of 12-month alcohol consumption beyond the variance accounted for by participant control variables. Only self-efficacy explained significant additional variance in the consequences outcome. Mediation analyses of the alcohol consumption variables suggested that treatment effects were not mediated by either coping skills or self-efficacy and that the effects of coping skills were not mediated by self-efficacy. The findings are interpreted as providing partial support for social learning theory approaches. Suggestions for future research are discussed.

Behavioral research on diabetes at the Oregon Research Institute

This article overviews the scope and progression of research on behavioral aspects of diabetes over the past decade at the Oregon Research Institute. Our research team has investigated several topics including: (a) conceptual models of self-management; (b) social learning factors associated with regimen adherence; (c) individual and group-based interventions to enhance diabetes self-management; (d) rates and determinants of participation in diabetes education; (e) determinants of glycemic control; and (f) patient models (beliefs) about diabetes and its treatment.We have employed a social learning theory approach to diabetes management, and over the past decade have come to adopt a broader public health perspective that addresses environmental influences on diabetes self-management at multiple levels (e.g. family, health care system, community). This approach has led us to conclude that increased attention should be devoted to the most prevalent types of diabetes, to the behavioral issues that create the most difficulty for the greatest number of patients, and to the social environment in which patients live and diabetes management education takes place. Our research focus has evolved over time and currently emphasizes: (a) assessment and tailoring of intervention based upon the patient's perspective; (b) patient-provider interactions; and (c) brief, low-cost, and system-wide interventions that can be implemented in medical office settings. Lessons learned from this research, the potential disseminability of our findings, and future directions are summarized.

The triadic model as applied to the treatment of conduct-disordered children: A review and critique

Abstract Conduct-disordered behaviour in children has long been recognised as an area of particular concern for counsellors, clinical and educational psychologists and other professionals, especially given its widespread incidence and poor long-term prognosis. In response to this concern, one recent development in the field has been the use of an applied social learning theory approach, utilising a triadic model of intervention. Such a model, rather than working directly with the child, firmly locates the parent or other caregiver as the agent of change. This paper reviews critically the work which has been carried out under the broad rubric of the triadic model, addressing specifcally the short- and longer-term efficacy of such interventions. In addition, certain shortcomings and limitations in existing practice are identifed. Increasing Safety Belt Use: Effects of Modeling and Trip Length1

Effects of modeling on car safety belt use were investigated in a field experiment. Modeling, anticipated trip length, and gender of the model were manipulated in a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial design. Sixty‐four female college students were told that they were to participate in an experiment that would take place in another location, requiring a drive either of less than one mile or of several miles. The driver either used or did not use a safety belt. Subjects' belt use was significantly related to the model's behavior. When the driver used a safety belt, 77.4% of the subjects used one; when the driver did not use a safety belt, only 313% of the subjects used one. A significant effect for trip length was also found. In the long trip condition, 71.9% of the subjects used a belt; in the short trip condition, 35.5% used one. Results are interpreted as support for a social learning theory approach to increasing voluntary safety belt use.

Television and Self-Concept Formation in Developing Areas

An eight-year longitudinal analysis of the impact of television in two Cree communities in northern Manitoba, Canada, reveals two differing reactions to television. In-depth anthropological investigation uncovered a linkage between these differing reactions and differing patterns of adaptation to Western pressure that promoted differing conceptions of the meanings and functions of television. These, in turn, were communicated to children by means of artfully crafted stories, analogies, and behavior models, and resulted in a heightened awareness of the sociocultural dimension of self. Those aware of self as a participant in a heritage of trickster-like adaptations to Western pressure responded to television as a great opportunity to learn Western ways and to use these ways to exploit the Western world. They became more aggressive and more out-group-oriented. Those aware of self as a participant in a heritage of avoidance relationships to the West responded to television as a threat to be resisted and became less aggressive, more fearful, and less out-group-oriented than was the case in the other community. These findings are viewed as supportive of a multilineal theory of modernization and social learning theory approach to telecommunication research.

Effect of self-efficacy, goals, and task strategies on task performance.

Abstract : This study examined the effect of self-efficacy, goals, and task strategies on goal choice and task performance. Self-efficacy and task strategies were manipulated through training. Ability, past performance and self-efficacy were the major predictors of goal choice. Ability, self-efficacy, goals and task strategies were all related to task performance. Self-efficacy was more strongly related to past performance than to future performance but was still a significant predictor of future performance when past performance was controlled. Self-efficacy ratings for moderate to difficult levels of performance were the best predictors of future performance. This finding was replicated when two previous goal setting studies, which had found no positive expectancy-performance relationship across goal groups, were re-analyzed. It is suggested that the concept of self-efficacy might provide an integrating mechanism between the goal setting and social learning theory approaches to task performance.

Social Learning Theory: A Psychological Approach to Advertising Effectiveness?

Most of the current research on consumer reactions to advertisements has utilized explanations based on advertising models of consumer behaviour. The present study assessed the utility of social learning theory approaches to advertising effectiveness. Orthogonal 2 times; 2 × 2 times; 2 (race of model × sexiness of model × race of observer × sex of observer) ANOVAs were computed on 160 subjects' recall of an advertisement, attitudes to that advertisement, and purchase intention following exposure to the advertisement. In considering the various two-way and higher-order interactions that emerged, it was concluded that a framework of social learning theory may account for the findings. Specifically, the interaction between behaviour, the environment, and cognitive events influencing perception and action, together with the situational specificity hypotheses adequately explain consumer reactions to advertising. It is suggested that other social learning constructs such as response-outcome expectations, their valence, and the delay of gratification paradigm may further explain such behaviour.

A Social Learning Approach to Organizational Behavior

After first reviewing the existing theoretical frameworks for human behavior, we present a social learning theory approach that incorporates the interactive nature of all the variables of organizational behavior — the behavior itself, the environment, and the person (internal cognitions). We differentiate social learning theory from operant theory, highlighting the processes of modeling, cognitions, and self-control. We suggest self-management techniques as a way to apply the social learning framework in order to enhance managerial effectiveness.

Theory Building in Political Socialization

A social learning theory approach is applied to the task of explaining levels of political trust. Theoretically derived mediators between the source and the observer—involving sanction, clarity, and status—are developed. Hypotheses that predict stronger source- observer relationships where mediators take on high values are tested. Race and socio economic status are also predicted to mediate the source-observer link. The data are from a study of six high school senior classes in the Atlanta area. The design of the study allows direct measurement of attributes of mothers, fathers, peers, and schools. The social learn ing perspective is most successful in the case of the mother-child link, partially successful for the father and peer groups, and not successful for the school. When all mediators as well as race and socioeconomic status are taken into account, political trust of the high school senior can be better predicted. The results appear strong enough to justify pursuit of the development of social learning theory as a general theory of political socialization.

A social learning theory approach to sensitivity groups

AbstractThis study was concerned with (1) assessing the processes that determine the behavior of participants in sensitivity groups from a social learning perspective, and (2) exploring motivational factors involved in volunteering for a sensitivity group experience. A total of 80 volunteers were divided into eight groups and administered the Rotter ISB. Four groups were given descriptions to foster “self awareness” expectancies in an upcoming sensitivity group, and the other four groups were given “other awareness” expectancies. Graduate students modeled behaviors consistent with the expectancies given each group and served as group trainers. The modeling and instructional manipulation of expectancies influenced the behavior of the participants in a manner that was generally consistent with predictions from social learning theory. The sensitivity group volunteers had significantly higher ISB scores than control subjects, suggesting that they had a greater frequency and intensity of conflicts.
