The Effect of Social Interaction and Social Support on E-Commerce Purchase Intention: UGT and TAM Theory Perspective

Purpose: This study was to analyze the essence of combining the TAM and UGT theory in shaping consumer purchase intentions in e-commerce. This was accomplished by developing an empirical research model based on direct and moderating relationships on purchase intention. Theorethical Framework: This study involves 7 hypotheses that are described comprehensively in section 2. The independent variables are Benefits Perceived (BP), Ease of Use Perceived (EoUP), Risk Perceived (RP), Moderating Variables are Social Support & Social Interaction (SI), and the Dependent variable is Purchase Intention (PI). Method: Furthermore, the total sample in this study involved 938 respondents, data were collected using online surveys, and the method of analysis used was PLS. Results and Conclusion: The results show a close positive association between UGT and TAM theory on the consumers’ buying intentions. In addition, the findings indicate the propensity for Social Interaction & Support; thus, empirically built hypotheses specified that most TAM variables had a positive and significant effect on puberty purchase intention. Therefore, asides from where Risk Perceived confers a little influence through direct effect relationships, a positive and significant impact on purchase intention is perceived if social interaction & social support variables moderate the risk. Originality/Value: This study in testing the relationship between variables is based on two theoretical approaches: UGT and TAM. Besides, measuring variables by moderation uses social support and interaction variables.

Determinants of Financial Risk Tolerance: An Analysis of Psychological Factors

Financial risk tolerance is a complex process that goes beyond the exclusive use of demographic characteristics. Despite the necessity of developing a comprehensive financial risk tolerance measurement model, the psychological factors that might be important have been long overlooked. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of psychological factors on financial risk tolerance level. The sample (n = 1204) comprises university students from different parts of Malaysia. Significant financial risk tolerance differences are found as a function of gender and race. Students with high financial risk tolerance (FRT) are found to be positively correlated with the propensity for regret, the propensity for trust, the propensity to attribute success to luck, the propensity for overconfidence, and the propensity for social interaction, but not with happiness in life. These findings highlight the importance of individual propensities in assessing the financial risk tolerance level of a person. This study will act as an aid to financial advisors in understanding the behavior and attitudes of their clients.

Social isolation affects intra-specific interaction behaviour and reduces the size of the cerebellar brain region in juvenile Atlantic salmon Salmo salar.

The social environment can affect the development of behavioural phenotypes in fish, and it is important to understand such effects when rearing fish in artificial environments. Here, the authors test the effects of spatial isolation on social interaction propensity and brain development in hatchery‐reared Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L. Salmon reared in isolation generally stayed further away from a conspecific in a standardized intruder test than conspecifics reared together in groups. Isolated salmon also tended to be more active in an intruder test, albeit non‐significantly so, but this pattern was not detected in open‐field tests without an intruding conspecific. The cerebellar brain region was relatively smaller in isolated salmon, suggesting that the brain was developing differently in these fish. Therefore, some features of the behavioural and neural phenotype are affected by rearing in isolation. These effects should be considered when rearing salmon, particularly for experimental purposes as it may affect results of laboratory studies on behavioural expression and brain size.

Behavioural propensities and financial risk tolerance: the moderating effect of ethnicity

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the influence of several core behavioural propensities on financial risk tolerance (FRT). Additionally, this paper examines the moderating effect of ethnicity on the relationship between behavioural propensities and FRT.Design/methodology/approachA sample of 1,204 completed and usable questionnaires were collected from undergraduate students majoring in business, economics and finance and analysed them using SmartPLS 2.0 software.FindingsThe findings reveal that propensity for trust has the highest impact on FRT followed by propensity for regret and happiness in life, while propensity for social interaction is not significantly associated with FRT. Ethnicity significantly moderates the relationship between three behavioural propensities (propensity for regret, propensity for trust and happiness in life) and FRT.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the assessment of individuals’ FRT incorporating behavioural propensities, which in turn contributes to the field of behavioural finance.

Propensity toward financial risk tolerance: an analysis using behavioural factors

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of six core behavioural factors on financial risk tolerance (FRT). The study also analyses the role of religiosity in the relationship between behavioural factors and FRT.Design/methodology/approachEmpirical data were collected using a survey questionnaire. A total of 1,679 questionnaires were distributed to six public universities in the Klang Valley. However, only 1,204 questionnaires were completed and used for analysis. This study employs structural equation modelling to validate and assess proposed research model.FindingsThe results of the analysis demonstrated some new findings. The findings indicate that propensity for regret, propensity for trust, happiness in life, propensity to attribute success to luck and propensity for overconfidence have a significant influence on FRT while propensity for social interaction does not. The results also provide support for the moderating effects of religiosity in the proposed research model.Originality/valueThe findings highlight the important role of behavioural determinants to assess individuals’ FRT. Understanding FRT is a complex process that goes beyond the exclusive use of behavioural factors. Thus, more research is clearly needed to resolve which additional factors can be used by financial advisors to increase the explained variance in FRT differences.

Re‐examining the core features of autism: a comparison of autism spectrum disorder and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) are both characterized by social difficulties, but overall clinical descriptions of the two disorders are different. Twenty-nine children with autism and 33 children with pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) were compared to 29 children with FASD of equivalent age and full-scale IQ. To isolate social deficits that are most unique to ASD, all participants were administered the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). Parents of the children completed the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R). Difficulties in initiating social interaction, sharing affect, and using nonverbal communication were common in children with ASD but rare in children with FASD. Socially inappropriate behaviors and difficulty with peers were common in both groups. These findings suggest that whereas propensity for social interaction appears to be a differentiating factor between children with ASD and those with non-spectrum disorders, impaired quality of social interaction may be less diagnostically discriminative.
