Compact MIMO/diversity slot antenna for UWB applications with band‐notched characteristic

A novel MIMO sharp band-notched antenna with high isolation for UWB applications is presented. The antenna consists of two antenna elements with an overall area of 18 × 36 mm2. A T-shaped stub is extruded in the ground plane to improve isolation and an L-shaped stub to introduce band-notched function C-band (3.62–4.77 GHz). The designed antenna possesses a low mutual coupling of <−20 dB over the operating band from 2.9 to 20 GHz. The performance of this antenna is studied in terms of isolation between the two ports, radiation pattern, efficiency, realised gain, and envelope correlation coefficient.

DESIGN AND VALIDATION OF ASYMMETRICALLY SLOTTED ULTRA WIDE BAND ANTENNA FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATION

A new compact CPW-fed slot antenna for UWB applications is presented in this paper. The slot in the ground plane is asymmetric which helps in wide band impedance matching. The radiating element is a star-shaped geometry fed by a double stepped co-planar waveguide. Three antennas are designed with this geometry. Out of these three antennas, a compact antenna is proposed. The size of the proposed antenna is 27:2 £ 32:2mm 2 , and it has a measured impedance bandwidth of 8.7GHz (3{11.7GHz). The radiation patterns are stable with respect to frequency and of bi-directional shape in E-plane and omnidirectional shape in H-plane. The measured and simulated results are in good agreement.

A circularly polarised planar slot antenna for UWB applications

A printed rectangular slot antenna for circular polarisation (CP) is presented in this letter. The slot is excited by a CPW feed terminated on a circular disc. Inverted L-shaped strips are attached to the corners of the slot to obtain the desired CP characteristics. A slant rectangular slit cut in the circular disc enhances the CP behaviour. The antenna has a measured impedance bandwidth from 2.5 GHz to 15.0 GHz (143%), whereas the measured 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) is from 4.36 GHz to 6.15 GHz (33%). An improved version of the antenna is also proposed with simulated ARBW of 52% (4.35 GHz to 7.4 GHz) and measured ARBW of 44% (4.7 GHz to 7.35 GHz). The antenna can be useful for applications requiring CP over this frequency range and linear (vertical) polarisation over the rest of the impedance bandwidth.

ON THE DESIGN OF ULTRA WIDE BAND RECTANGULAR SLOT ANTENNA EXCITED BY A FLARED MICROSTRIP FEED LINE

A rectangular slot antenna for UWB applications is proposed in this paper. The slot is designed in stepped conflguration and is excited by an L-shaped microstrip line ∞ared at the end. The measured impedance bandwidth (i10dB) from 3GHz to 27GHz is achieved. The radiation patterns are bidirectional in the E plane and omnidirectional in the H plane with the measured peak gain around 5dBi throughout the band. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulated results. A detail parametric study is done for the ∞are angle and the ∞are width to axis ratio and their efiect on the impedance bandwidth and the re∞ection coe-cient is described.

Octave-band, multi-resonance CPW-fed small slot antenna for UWB applications

A novel multi-resonance CPW-fed slot antenna, for UWB applications, is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a modified fan-shaped radiating stub and a sprocket-shaped ground plane provides a wide usable fractional bandwidth of more than 155% (2.39–24.53 GHz). By inserting eight pairs of gear-shaped teeth on the sprocket-shaped ground plane, an additional eight resonances are excited and hence much wider impedance bandwidth can be produced. Unlike other antennas reported in the literature to date, the proposed antenna displays a good omnidirectional radiation pattern even at higher frequencies. The designed antenna has a small size of 30×30 mm2. Simulated and experimental results obtained for this antenna show that it exhibits good radiation behaviour within the UWB frequency range.

Compact circularly-polarised slot antenna for UWB applications

A simple compact broadband circularly-polarised square slot antenna (CPSSA) fed by a coplanar waveguide is presented. A CP bandwidth larger than 38.2% can be attained simply by embedding two inverted-L grounded strips around two opposite corners whereas the impedance bandwidth can be greatly improved through the tuning stubs. The designed CPSSA antenna is 25×25×0.8 mm3, which is 56% smaller than previous CPSSA structures operating over the frequency band between 2.9 and 11.2 GHz for VSWR<2.

NOVEL WIDE-SLOT ANTENNA WITH TRAVELING-WAVE EXCITATION FOR BAND-NOTCHED ULTRA-WIDEBAND APPLICATIONS

In this paper, a novel band-notched wide slot antenna for UWB applications has been proposed. The antenna consists of a circularly slotted square ground, two wide-slots separated by a conductive ring, and an equiangular spiral feed line, which excites the antenna through traveling-wave. Experimental prototypes are fabricated and tested. The obtained results indicate that the proposed antenna has a small size and ofiers a broad bandwidth from 3.1 to 12GHz, with a band notch from 3.4 to 3.9GHz. The radiation patterns display nearly omnidirectional performance and the measured group delays are within §1 nanosecond except for the notch band.

A CPW‐fed band‐notched slot antenna for UWB applications

AbstractThis article presents a band‐notched planar slot antenna presented to overcome interference with some already existing standards such as the IEEE802.11a and HYPERLAN/2 systems. The slot antenna, evolved from an elliptical aperture antenna, is fed by CPW with an elliptical tuning‐stub to achieve UWB characteristics. This slot antenna, using open‐end slits on the tuning stub or a pair of parasitic strips in the aperture, is then designed to reject the sub‐band between 5 and 6 GHz. Practical structures are fabricated and the measured results show that this antenna not only retains an ultrawide bandwidth but also has band‐rejection capability. In addition, its radiation pattern preserved the omni‐directional feature, meeting the UWB system requirements. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Bandwidth enhancement of open slot antenna for UWB applications

AbstractA novel open slot antenna for bandwidth enhancement is presented. The bandwidth enhancement of the proposed antenna is achieved by cutting two notches along the invert‐L shape open slot in the ground plane. The frequency range of the proposed antenna is from 2.3 to 10.9 GHz, which can cover the WLAN bands (2.4/5 GHz) and UWB frequency range (3.1–10.6 GHz). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
