Performance optimization of multipath K-AOMDV protocol using SVM against blackhole attack

<p>This research focuses on the Ad Hoc On-Demand Multi-Path Routing (AOMDV) protocol, which is preferred for its improved efficiency compared to a single-path routing protocol in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). However, identifying attackers in such networks is a complicated task due to malicious nodes providing optimistic, forward-looking optimistic responses. In this study, the author proposes a novel security solution, the K-AOMDV (KNN- Ad Hoc On-Demand Multi-Path Routing protocol) that uses K-means clustering to prevent routing misbehaviour. The efficiency of the proposed K-AOMDV routing protocol is analyzed using supervised machine learning approach to predict optimal routes with minimal packet hops between nodes. The proposed algorithm has a high accuracy rate of 0.99%, 80% true positives, and 80% recall. It communicates the black hole attacker’s node identification (ID) into the network, ensuring that the attacker will not participate in the routing method in the future. The privacy domain in MANET is the main focus of this research, and the proposed solution affiliates an effective approach to enhancing the security of MANETs.</p>

Defense Against Co-Operative Black-hole Attack and Gray-hole Attack in MANET

Mobile Ad-hoc networks (MANETs) can be termed as an autonomous system created by the collaboration of a set of motile nodes communicating with one another through available wireless media and each node behaves as an end system, as well as a router for packet forwarding. Each node is allowed to move freely, change locations and configure them to form a network. Finding an optimal and efficient path between the sender and receiver node is the main aim of routing protocols. Multipath routing protocols show a better result in comparison to single path routing protocols, for data transmission from source to destination extending lifetime of the network. Along with that security in routing for a protected communication between nodes has become a prime concern as any attack during routing may interrupt data transmission, paralyzing the whole network. During packet transmission through multiple paths a number of attacks make come into action by the unauthenticated and compromised nodes present within the network and black-hole attack is one of them. So our objective is to design a multipath routing protocol that detects and avoids the path containing black-hole. Our paper proposes a way to defense the black-hole and gray-hole attacks with the help of intelligence in MANET.

SSAAR: Enhanced Spatial Reusability for Optimal Path Selection in Wireless Sensor Networks

The advancements made in the wireless sensor networks have enabled the research communities to delve into the study of spatial reusability concepts. Due to the restricted capacity in wireless links, it is a significant to select the optimal route for packet transmission. The achievement of optimal route selection is verified by the high end-to-end throughput rate. Routing in WSNs is very challenging due to the inherent characteristics that distinguish these networks from other wireless networks like mobile ad hoc networks or cellular networks. In this paper, we have proposed an improved spatial reusability process using Single Path and Anypath Routing Protocols (SSAAR). The task of single path routing is to minimize the cost of the nodes in wireless links, whereas the task of any path routing is to assists the intermediate node who overhears the packet to participate in packet forwarding. Experimental results have shown the efficacy of our proposed work in terms of cost minimization functionalities. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF SINGLE-PATH AND MULTIPATH MANETS ROUTING PROTOCOLS FOR DENSE AND SPARSE TOPOLOGY

Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a multi-hop wireless network in which fixed infrastructure is not used. A single-path routing protocol is mainly proposed as a single route from source node to destination node, while a multipath routing protocol uses multiple routes from the source to the destination node. This paper evaluates the performance of single-path routing protocols which are Cluster Based Routing Protocol (CBRP) and Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) along with a multipath routing protocol which is Ad hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector routing (AOMDV) in MANET environments with varying node densities (Dense and Sparse). Network Simulator (NS2) was used to evaluate the performance of these routing protocols. Our experimental simulation results show that: AOMDV protocol is better than AODV and CBRP in terms of Delay for both Dense and Sparse topologies with variant traffic sources, whereas AODV is better than CBRP and AOMDV in terms of Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) with all traffic sources in Sparse topology. Survey on Single Path and Multipath Energy Efficient Routing Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are one of the most evolving technologies applicable in various fields where sensitive information is required. However, the constraints of limited resources and requirements for environment-dependent connectivity and life cycle have urged designers to seek more efficient WSN infrastructures. In this paper, we have discussed and compared the results of various single path protocols i.e. LEACH, PAGASIS and VGA. Performance analysis of energy efficient multipath routing protocols incorporating wireless interference has also been performed.

A topology and application‐aware relay path allocation scheme in multipath transport system based on application‐level relay

SummaryThe ever‐increasing transmission requirements of quality of service (QoS)‐sensitive applications, especially real‐time multimedia applications, can hardly be met by the single path routing protocols. Multipath transmission mechanism is a feasible approach to provide QoS for various applications. On the basis of the general framework of multipath transport system based on application‐level relay, we present a relay path allocation scheme, whose goal is to select suitable relay paths, while balancing the overlay traffic among the different domains and relayers. With the application‐layer traffic optimization service under the standardization within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the controller has the topology‐aware ability to allocate relay paths with excellent routing performance. To further develop the universality of our method, the controller perceives transmission performance of relay overlay network through relayers' performance detection processes and, thus, has the application‐aware ability to allocate relay paths with excellent transmission performance for different applications by consulting application‐specific transmission metrics. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed relay path allocation algorithm performs well in allocating superior relay paths and can balance the distribution of overlay traffic across domains in different network situations.

Minimum Delay Multipath Routing Based on TDMA for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network

Multipath routing is an alternative routing technique, which uses redundant paths to deliver data from source to destination. Compared to single path routing protocols, it can address reliability, delay, and energy consumption issues. Thus, multipath routing is a potential technique to overcome the long propagation delay and adverse link condition in underwater environment. However, there are still some problems in multipath routing. For example, the multiple paths may interfere with each other and arouse large end-to-end delay difference amongst multiple paths. This paper proposes a novel multipath routing structure and a conflict-free algorithm based on TDMA scheme. The forwarding nodes are selected based on the propagation delay and location information. This special multiple routing structure not only can ensure parallel multiple transmission without collision, but also can get a small end-to-end delay difference amongst multiple paths. Simulation results show that the multipath routing scheme proposed in this paper outperforms the traditional strategy.

Spatial Reusability-Aware Routing in Multi-Hop Wireless Networks

In the problem of routing in multi-hop wireless networks, to achieve high end-to-end throughput, it is crucial to find the “best” path from the source node to the destination node. Although a large number of routing protocols have been proposed to find the path with minimum total transmission count/time for delivering a single packet, such transmission count/time minimizing protocols cannot be guaranteed to achieve maximum end-to-end throughput. In this paper, we argue that by carefully considering spatial reusability of the wireless communication media, we can tremendously improve the end-to-end throughput in multi-hop wireless networks. To support our argument, we propose spatial reusability-aware single-path routing (SASR) and anypath routing (SAAR) protocols, and compare them with existing single-path routing and anypath routing protocols, respectively. Our evaluation results show that our protocols significantly improve the end-to-end throughput compared with existing protocols. Specifically, for single-path routing, the median throughput gain is up to 60 percent, and for each source-destination pair, the throughput gain is as high as $5.3\times$ ; for anypath routing, the maximum per-flow throughput gain is 71.6 percent, while the median gain is up to 13.2 percent.

Design and Development in Research of Adaptive Multipath Routing for Burden Harmonizing in MANET

In mobile ad hoc network (MANET), congestion is one of the most important limitations that affect the performance of the whole network. Multi-path routing protocol can balance and share the load better than the single path routing protocol in ad hoc networks, hereby reducing the congestion possibility by dividing the traffic in alternative paths. The performance of the network can be improved by using a burden harmonizing mechanism. Such a mechanism transfers load from overloaded nodes to under loaded nodes. The objective of multipath routing is to improve the reliability and throughput and favors burden harmonizing. Multipath routing allows the establishment of multiple paths between a pair of source and destinationnode. It is typically proposed in order to increase the reliability of data transmission or to provide burden harmonizing and has received more and more attentions. In this paper, some of the congestion removing and burden harmonizing routing schemes have been surveyed. The relative strengths and weaknesses of the protocols have also been studied which allow us to identify the areas for future research.

Due to that the attackers or malicious nodes are easily affected that kind of network and responsible for the routing misbehavior. The routing is network is mandatory to deliver data in between source and destination. In this research we work on security field in MANET and proposed a novel security scheme against routing misbehavior through Black hole attack. The Ad hoc On demand Multipath Routing (AOMDV) protocol is consider for routing and also to improves the routing quality as compare to single path routing protocol. The attacker is affected all the possible paths that is selected by sender for sending data in network. The malicious nodes are forward optimistic reply at the time of routing by that their identification is also a complex procedure. The proposed Intrusion Detection System (IDS) scheme is identified the attacker information through hop count mechanism. The routing information of actual data is reached to which intermediate node and the next hop information is exist at that node is confirm by IDS scheme. The black hole attacker node Identification (ID) is forward in network by that in future attacker is not participating in routing procedure. The proposed security scheme detects and provides the deterrence against routing misbehavior through malicious attack. Here we compare the routing performance of AOMDV, Attack and IDS scheme. The performance of normal multipath routing and proposed IDS scheme is almost equal. The attacker has degrades the whole routing performance but observed that in presence of attacker, routing misbehavior is completely block by the proposed IDS scheme and recovers 95 % of data as compare to normal routing. Reliability-Oriented Single-Path Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) bring significant advantages over traditional communications in today's applications, such as environmental monitoring, homeland security, and health care. However, harsh and complex environments pose great challenges in the reliability of WSN communications. To achieve reliable wireless communications within WSNs, it is essential to have a reliable routing protocol and to have a means to evaluate the reliability performance of different routing protocols. In this paper, we first model the reliability of two different types of sensor nodes: 1) energy harvesting sensor nodes and 2) battery-powered sensor nodes. We then present wireless link reliability models for each type of sensor nodes, where effects of different parameters, such as battery life-time, shadowing, noise, and location uncertainty, are considered for analyzing the wireless link reliability. Based on the sensor node and wireless link reliability models, we compare the performance of different routing algorithms in terms of end-to-end path reliability and number of hops. A dynamic routing approach is then proposed to achieve the most reliable end-to-end path in WSNs. Furthermore, to facilitate a fair and comprehensive comparison among different routing algorithms, a cost function approach that integrates the end-to-end path reliability and number of hops is proposed, providing an indicator of quality of service of applications running on WSNs.

A Survey on Multi-path Routing Protocols in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks

Single-path routing protocols cannot satisfy the need of Wireless multimedia Sensor networks, and Multi-path routing protocols have many advantages in wireless multimedia sensor networks. Recent years, some researchers have proposed many multi-path routing protocols. The paper introduces and outlines the different multi-path routing protocols in WMSNs and classifies them according to their characteristics. The future direction is pointed.

Performance Evaluation of Secure and Efficient AODV Routing Protocol using NS2

This paper focuses on the improvement on the performance of AODV single path routing protocol concerning the route maintenance mechanism with security. This paper presents the performance comparison of proposed protocol Secure and efficient AODV (SE-AODV) with AODV routing protocol using NS2. As the reactive routing protocols is completely different from the proactive routing protocols because they belong to two different routing families. Our proposed SEAODV routing protocol change the on-demand single path routing protocol into proactive multipath routing protocol in terms of predicting the link failure by utilizing the link state prediction algorithm and in terms of creating multiple routes by utilizing on-demand multipath routing approach.

Interoperability issues on heterogeneous wireless communication for smart cities

Smart cities have become a reality around the world. They rely on wireless communication technologies, and they have provided many benefits to society, such as monitoring road traffic in real-time, giving continuous healthcare assistance to residents and managing the environment. This article revisits key interoperability questions in heterogeneous wireless networks for smart cities, and outlines a simple, modular architecture to deal with these complex issues. The architecture is composed by sensing, access network, Internet/cloud and application layers. Different features provided by the architecture, such as interoperability among technologies, low cost, reliability and security, have been evaluated through experiments and simulations under different scenarios. The QoS support and the seamless connectivity between pairs of heterogeneous technologies are proposed through a policy-based management (PBM) framework and MIH (Media Independent Handover). Moreover, an 802.11 mesh backbone composed of different types of mesh routers has been deployed for interconnecting the sensors and actuators to the Internet. Key results from experiments in the backbone are examined. They compare: (i) the performance of a single-path routing protocol (OLSR) with a multipath one (MP-OLSR); (ii) the monitoring delays from the proposed low cost sunspot/mesh and arduino/mesh gateways; and (iii) the authentication mechanisms employed. Significant results from simulations allow the analysis of the reliability on vehicular/mesh networks under jamming attacks by applying the OLSR and MP-OLSR routing protocols. Finally, this article provides an overview of open research questions.

A Modification to DSR using Multipath Technique

MANET is a collection of self organized mobile nodes with dynamic topologies and no fixed infrastructure. DSR is single path routing protocol applied for MANET and gives better performance when routes are not long enough. Its performance depends on different parameters value, like number of nodes and mobile connections. Thus routing efficiency is determined based on two aspects: firstly the time needed to react on a link break and secondly the ability to optimize to a shorter route when one is available. Developing better routing protocol became challenging task due to dynamic topology. Multipath routing is effective in mobile ad-hoc networks since link breakage is less likely to occur. A multipath extension to DSR namely Quality Aware Multipath DSR is proposed. Main interest is to divert the traffic through several node disjoint routes. Here source node maintains up to five paths corresponding to same destination as a result of route discovery procedure. The proposed work is implemented in NS2 and simulation results show that the proposed protocol achieves better packet delivery ratio, throughput and decrease average delay.
