Sulfamethoxazole removal in nitrifying membrane aerated biofilms: Physiological responses and antibiotic resistance genes

Efficient removal of ammonia nitrogen and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) from wastewater has become increasingly critical due to their detrimental effects on aquatic ecosystems and public health. This study aimed to investigate the nitrogen transformation and SMX removal in a membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) under different SMX concentrations (0–200 μg L−1) with a nitrifying membrane bioreactor (MBR) as a control. Results suggested that SMX removal in MABR was better than that of MBR with SMX addition (50–200 μg L−1). Membrane aerated biofilms tended to secrete more extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and generate less antioxidant enzymes in response to SMX stress when compared with nitrifying sludge in MBR. Metagenomic analysis indicated that distinct succession of microbial community was observed in both systems after SMX addition, and the relative abundance of nitrifying bacteria (Nitrosomonas, Nitrospira, and Nitrobacter) evidently decreased under SMX concentration of 200 μg L−1. The proliferation of predominant antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) sul2 was suppressed more obviously in MABR than that in MBR. Thus, this study provided extensive insights into the advantages of nitrifying MABR in simultaneous removal of ammonium and antibiotics with less risk of associated ARGs spread.

Simultaneous removal of ammonia, copper ions and sulfamethoxazole from aquaculture wastewater with low carbon to nitrogen ratio enhanced by manganese redox driven by a two-stage synergistic bioreactor: Optimization and potential mechanism

The problem of low carbon-nitrogen ratio (C/N) in wastewater is a major challenge for biological treatment, especially the complex pollution of ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N), sulfamethoxazole (SMX), and copper ions (Cu(II)). Herein, a strain of Pseudoxanthomonas sp. MA23 with manganese (Mn) reduction-coupled ammonia oxidation properties was isolated. Subsequently, kaolin and bentonite were used as the main raw materials, and a mixture of coconut shell biochar (CSBC) and different Mn ores were added to make ceramsite carriers to load the target strain MA23. To achieve complete N removal and Mn redox process, Dechloromonas sp. YZ8 with Mn redox and denitrification performance was introduced, and a second-stage bioreactor was constructed with volcanic rock as the biocarrier. The results showed that the bioreactor was most effective when the hydraulic retention time (HRT) was 20.0 and 2.0 h, C/N was 1.5, and pH was 6.5. The response of the bioreactors was investigated by inflowing different concentrations of Cu(II) and SMX. Appropriate Cu(II) concentrations promoted the electron transfer in the system, and Cu(II) and SMX were together removed by biological action and chemisorption. Furthermore, genes involved in N metabolism were enriched in the bioreactors and the microorganisms responded to environmental changes by up or down-regulating relevant metabolic genes. The synergistic system proposed in this study provided a promising attempt to simultaneously address NH4+-N-Cu(II)-SMX pollution in low C/N wastewater.

Novel Nanocatalysts for Simultaneous Ammonia Oxidation and Nitrate Reduction

Throughout recent years, nitrate reduction to ammonia has gained popularity in the scientific world to produce a carbon-free fuel [1]. However, research has primarily focused on low-concentration nitrate reduction, specifically for wastewater remediation. High-concentration effluents, such as ANSOL (Ammonium Nitrate), have emerged as a significant waste byproduct and a threat [2], with explosive characteristics and increasing production rates over the years [3]. This research seeks solutions to incorporate onsite waste treatment for generating electrical power, emphasizing the integration of waste streams as a distinctive opportunity. The integration aims to facilitate both power generation and the provision of clean water, with a focus on developing prototype systems designed to convert challenging Department of Defense (DoD) waste streams containing ANSOL into usable fuels for onsite energy generation.In this presentation, results from two distinct systems employing nanoparticle catalysts for the reduction of nitrates to ammonia, while simultaneously oxidizing ammonia to nitrogen and hydrogen, are discussed. This is particularly relevant in the presence of a high concentration of ammonium nitrate in waste (>0.5 M) with industrially relevant electrochemical performance (>300 mA/cm2 with Faradaic Efficiencies higher than 50%). The initial approach involves the integration of CuNi/C and Pt3Ir/C catalysts for reduction and oxidation, respectively [4]. The subsequent approach underscores pulsed electrodeposition of CuNi [5] for nanoparticle synthesis in the reduction process, coupled with the use of Pt3Ir/C catalyst for oxidation. Low-cost, reliable, and highly efficient removal of COD and total nitrogen from sewage using a sponge-filled trickling filter.

Development of low-cost and reliable reactors demanding minimal supervision is a need-of-the-hour for sewage treatment in rural areas. This study explores the performance of a multi-stage sponge-filled trickling filter (SPTF) for sewage treatment, employing polyethylene (PE) and polyurethane (PU) media. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and nitrogen transformation were evaluated at hydraulic loading rates (HLRs) ranging from 2 to 6 m/d using synthetic sewage as influent. At influent COD of ∼350 mg/L, PU-SPTF and PE-SPTF achieved a COD removal of 97% across all HLRs with most of the removal occurring in the first segments. Operation of PE-SPTF at an HLR of 6 m/d caused substantial wash-out of biomass, while PU-SPTF retained biomass and achieved effluent COD < 10 mg/L even at HLR of 8-10 m/d. The maximum Total Nitrogen removal by PE-SPTF and PU-SPTF reactors was 93.56 ± 1.36 and 92.24 ± 0.66%, respectively, at an HLR of 6 m/d. Simultaneous removal of ammonia and nitrate was observed at all the HLRs in the first segment of both SPTFs indicating ANAMMOX activity. COD removal data, media depth, and HLRs were fitted (R2 > 0.99) to a first-order kinetic relationship. For a comparable COD removal, CO2 emission by PU-SPTF was 3.5% of that of an activated sludge system.

Simultaneous removal of ammonium, phosphate, and phenol via self-assembled biochar composites CBCZrOFe3O4 and its utilization as soil acidity amelioration

ABSTRACT High concentrations of ammonium, phosphate, and phenol are recognized as water pollutants that contribute to the degradation of soil acidity. In contrast, small quantities of these nutrients are essential for soil nutrient cycling and plant growth. Here, we reported composite materials comprising biochar, chitosan, ZrO, and Fe3O4, which were employed to mitigate ammonium, phosphate, and phenol contamination in water and to lessen soil acidity. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to assess the efficacy of the adsorbents. Initially, comparative studies on the simultaneous removal of NH4, PO4, and phenol using CB (biochar), CBC (biochar + chitosan), CBCZrO (biochar + chitosan + ZrO), and CBCZrOFe3O4 (biochar + chitosan + ZrO + Fe3O4) were conducted. The results discovered that CBCZrOFe3O4 exhibited the highest removal percentage among the adsorbents (P < 0.05). Adsorption data for CBCZrOFe3O4 were well fitted to the second-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm models, with maximum adsorption capacities of 112.65 mg/g for NH4, 94.68 mg/g for PO4 and 112.63 mg/g for phenol. Subsequently, the effect of CBCZrOFe3O4-loaded NH4, PO4, and phenol (CBCZrOFe3O4-APP) on soil acidity was studied over a 60-day incubation period. The findings showed no significant changes (P < 0.05) in soil exchangeable acidity, H+, Mg, K, and Na. However, there was a substantial increase in the soil pH, EC, available P, CEC, N-NH4, and N-NO3. A significant reduction was also observed in the available soil exchangeable Al and Fe (P < 0.05). This technique demonstrated multi-functionality in remediating water pollutants and enhancing soil acidity.

Impact of zero-valent iron on nitrifying granular sludge for 17α-ethinylestradiol removal and its mechanism

Aerobic granulation of nitrifying activated sludge could enhance the removal of 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) via abiotic nitration induced by reactive nitrogen species, cometabolism by ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and biodegradation by heterotrophic bacteria. Zero-valent iron (ZVI), a promising and low-cost material, has previously been applied to effectively enhance biological wastewater treatment. The impact and the effect mechanism of ZVI on nitrifying granular sludge (NGS) for EE2 removal was investigated in this study. The results showed that the addition of ZVI achieved better EE2 removal, though ZVI was not conducive to the accumulation of nitrite in NGS which reduced the abiotic transformation of EE2. Moreover, ZVI enriched heterotrophic denitrifying bacteria such as Arenimonas, thus changing the EE2 removal pathway and improving the degradation and mineralization of EE2. In addition, ZVI reduced the emission risk of the greenhouse gas N2O and strengthened the stability of the granules. Metagenomic analysis further revealed that the functional genes related to EE2 mineralization, nitrite oxidation, N2O reduction and quorum sensing in NGS were enriched with ZVI addition. This study provides meaningful guidance for ZVI application in the NGS process to achieve efficient and simultaneous removal of ammonia and emerging contaminants.

The efficient utilization of thiocyanate on simultaneous removal of ammonium and nitrate through thiosulfate-driven autotrophic denitrifiers and anammox

The efficient utilization of thiocyanate remain be an important bottleneck in the low-cost nitrogen removal for wastewaters containing thiocyanate. The study aimed to investigate the feasibility of thiocyanate in removal of nitrate and ammonium through anammox (AN) and thiosulfate-driven autotrophic denitrifiers (TSAD). The results showed that removal of nitrate and ammonium were achieved rapidly utilizing thiocyanate, which was attributed to degradation of thiocyanate by TSAD and cooperation with AN. The utilization efficiency of thiocyanate in nitrogen removal was increased by 250% due to the microbial cooperation. Excess thiocyanate and ammonium did not influence the nitrogen removal amount. However, the nitrogen removal were affected obviously by the biomass ratio (XAN/XTSAD) between AN and TSAD Moreover, the dynamics related to removal of pollutants was described successfully by a modified Monod model with time constraints. These findings offer an insight for efficient utilization of thiocyanate in nitrogen removal via microbial cooperation.

The Simultaneous Removal of Ammonium and Manganese from Surface Water in South China by Manganese Co-Oxide Film.

Exceeding the permitted manganese (Mn2+) and ammonium (NH4+-N) levels is a frequent seasonal occurrence in a water treatment plant in south China. An iron Fe-Mn complex oxide film was found capable of removing more than 95% of Mn2+ and NH4+-N at a water temperature of 20 °C and an alkalinity level of 30 mg/L. It could remove up to 5.5 mg/L of Mn2+ and up to 3.5 mg/L of NH4+-N in a stable manner. Alkalinity is a crucial factor in the removal process. The morphology, elemental composition, and micro-structure of the oxide film were investigated using a scanning electron microscope, an energy-dispersive spectrometer, a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller specific surface-area analyzer, an X-ray diffractometer, and a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer. The capacity of the Fe-Mn complex oxide film on the surface of the filter medium increased appreciably as its content and specific surface area increased. This research, which provides a theoretical basis for simultaneous manganese and NH4+-N removal by catalytic oxidation, demonstrates an engineering reference value.

Coupling methanotrophic denitrification to anammox in a moving bed biofilm reactor for nitrogen removal under hypoxic conditions

Simultaneous removal of ammonium and nitrate was achieved in a methane-fed moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR). In the reactor, methanotrophic microorganisms oxidized methane under hypoxic conditions likely to methanol, hence providing an electron donor to denitrifiers to reduce nitrate to nitrite that then allowed anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria (Anammox) to remove excess ammonium as N2. The ammonium and nitrate removal rates reached 72.09 ± 5.81 mgNH4+–N/L/d and 62.61 ± 4.17 mgNO3−–N/L/d when the MBBR was operated in continuous mode. Nitrate removal by the methane-fed mixed consortia was confirmed in a batch test revealing a CH4/NO3− molar removal ratio of 1.15. The functional populations were unveiled by FISH analysis and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, which showed that the biofilm was dominated by Anammox bacteria (Candidatus Kuenenia) and diverse taxa associated with the capacity for denitrification: aerobic methanotrophs (Methylobacter, Methylomonas, and unclassified Methylococcaceae), methylotrophic denitrifiers (Opitutaceae and Methylophilaceae), and other heterotrophic denitrifiers (Ignavibacteriaceae, Anaerolineaceae, Comamonadaceae, Rhodocyclaceae and Thauera). Neither DAMO archaea nor DAMO bacteria were found in the sequencing analysis, indicating that more unknown community members possess the metabolic capacity of methanotrophic denitrification.

The potential of date palm waste biochar for single and simultaneous removal of ammonium and phosphate from aqueous solutions

Excessive amounts of NH4+ and PO43- cause eutrophication in water resources and harm the environment. The single and simultaneous removal of NH4+ and PO43- ions from aqueous solutions with different date palm waste biochar samples was investigated in batch and fixed bed column studies. The highest removal and adsorption capacities were 99.55% (49.76 mg/g) for NH4+, 51.53% (26.90 mg/g) for PO43- in single solution; 99.97% (48.74 mg/g) for NH4+, 52.42% (27.41 mg/g) for PO43- in mixed solutions at pH 7 with biochar pyrolyzed at 500 °C derived from the mixture of date palm leaves and fronds waste. The experimental data for NH4+ and PO43- fits well to the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.87–1) and the pseudo-second order kinetic model (R2 = 1) for single and mixed solutions. The increases in biochar bed depth and initial ion concentrations, and the decrease in the initial flow rate increased the exhaustion time, removal efficiencies, and dynamic adsorption capacities of both NH4+ and PO43- in single and mixed solutions. The maximum removal efficiencies and adsorption capacities were 82.22% (805 mg/g) for NH4+, 27.51% (92.78 mg/g) for PO43- in single solutions; 57.9% (165.17 mg/g) for NH4+, 31.56% (85.95 mg/g) for PO43- in mixed solutions. Regenerated biochar had still high removal efficiencies and adsorption capacities towards those ions. The NH4+ and/or PO43- ions adsorption on biochar samples were confirmed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, Energy dispersive X-ray and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Simultaneous removal of ammonium and phosphate in aqueous solution using Chinese herbal medicine residues: Mechanism and practical performance

Excessive ammonium (NH4+) and phosphate (PO43−) in aquatic environments can cause serious eutrophication. Agricultural waste is an efficient adsorbent for nutrients removal and has good potential for comprehensive utilisation of resources. In this study, two Chinese medicinal herbal residues, Rhizoma Typhonium Gigantei (ZB) and Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (ZG), were implemented to simultaneously remove NH4+ and PO43− from water. Parameters such as adsorbent dosage, solution pH, contact time and initial concentration that influenced the adsorption process onto adsorbents, along with removal mechanism and practical performance were investigated. The microstructure of ZB was irregular with numerous spherical particles, while ZG displayed an uneven flaky structure with few rough grooves. The nutrients adsorption was significantly influenced by pH. The maximum adsorption capacity by ZB was 91.84 N mg g−1 and 71.81 P mg g−1. In addition, the maximum adsorption capacity recorded by ZG was 100.86 N mg g−1 and 89.51 P mg g−1 (pH, 8.0; dosage, 0.2 g L−1; initial concentration, 60 mg L−1; and contact time, 180 min, for both the herbal residues). The adsorption of NH4+ and PO43− was well described by the pseudo-second-order and intra-particle diffusion models, respectively. The Langmuir isotherm model is the best fit model for the adsorption equilibrium data, suggesting monolayer adsorption of NH4+ and PO43− by the two adsorbents. In addition, NH4+ was predominantly adsorbed by electrostatic attraction, ion exchange and complexation, whereas PO43− was predominantly adsorbed by intra-particle diffusion and ligand exchange. Practical application analysis demonstrated that ZG could remove and recover more NH4+ and PO43− from swine wastewater than ZB. Therefore, ZG exhibited a more significant potential to simultaneously remove and recover NH4+ and PO43− from wastewater.

Hydrothermal Synthesis of Sodalite-Type N-A-S-H from Fly Ash to Remove Ammonium and Phosphorus from Water.

In this study, the hydrated sodium aluminosilicate material was synthesized by one-step hydrothermal alkaline desilication using fly ash (FA) as raw material. The synthesized materials were characterized by XRD, XRF, FT-IR and SEM. The characterization results showed that the alkali-soluble desilication successfully had synthesized the sodium aluminosilicate crystalline (N-A-S-H) phase of sodalite-type (SOD), and the modified material had good ionic affinity and adsorption capacity. In order to figure out the suitability of SOD as an adsorbent for the removal of ammonium and phosphorus from wastewater, the effects of material dosing, contact time, ambient pH and initial solute concentration on the simultaneous removal of ammonium and phosphorus are investigated by intermittent adsorption tests. Under the optimal adsorption conditions, the removal rate of ammonium was 73.3%, the removal rate of phosphate was 85.8% and the unit adsorption capacity reached 9.15 mg/L and 2.14 mg/L, respectively. Adsorption kinetic studies showed that the adsorption of ammonium and phosphorus by SOD was consistent with a quasi-secondary kinetic model. The adsorption isotherm analysis showed that the equilibrium data were in good agreement with the Langmuir and Freundlich model. According to thermodynamic calculations, the adsorption of ammonium and phosphorus was found to be a heat-absorbing and spontaneous process. Therefore, the preparation of SOD by modified FA has good adsorption properties as adsorbent and has excellent potential for application in the removal of contaminants from wastewater.

Isolated heterotrophic nitrifying and aerobic denitrifying bacterium for treating actual refinery wastewater with low C/N ratio

Heterotrophic nitrifying and aerobic denitrifying bacteria that have been widely isolated from complicated activated sludge microflorae demonstrate dominant advantages in simultaneous removal of ammonium and nitrogen oxides under aerobic conditions. However, owing to the need of organic carbon to support bacterial growth, nitrogen removal of actual industrial wastewater with low carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio remains a challenge. Here, Pseudomonas mendocina Y7 was identified and presented to effectively remove nitrogen of actual refinery wastewater with low C/N ratio. The isolated bacterium showed high removal efficiency of NH4+-N, NO2--N, and NO3--N up to about 90% in single (100mg/L) or mixed (200mg/L) nitrogen source media at low C/N ratio of 6 when it was cultivated for 12 or 21h. According to PCR amplification, the heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification capability of strain Y7 was attributed to the functional genes of amoA, hao, napA, and nirS. In activated sludge process for treating actual refinery wastewater with low C/N ratio, compared to abundant accumulation of NO2--N and NO3--N only using the activated sludge, strain Y7 significantly improved the removal efficiency of NH4+‒N and total nitrogen (with influent concentrations of about 40 and 55mg/L) from about 47% and 22% to about 85% and 73%, respectively, without the accumulation of nitrogen oxides. Microbial community structure analysis revealed that strain Y7 could coexist well with other microorganisms in the activated sludge and maintain highly efficient and steady nitrogen removal in continuous treatment system. This discovery provides a promising treatment approach toward actual nitrogen-rich industrial wastewater.

Effect on simultaneous removal of ammonia, nitrate, and phosphorus via advanced stacked assembly biological filter for rural domestic sewage treatment.

The discharge of ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N), total nitrogen (TN), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total phosphorus (TP) in rural sewage usually exceeds the Pollutant Discharge Standard for Urban Sewage Treatment Plants (GB18918-2002). Efficient and cost-effective removal of these pollutants cannot be simultaneously realized using conventional rural sewage treatment methods. Thus, an assembled biological filter (D50 × W50 × H113 cm), including a phosphorus removal layer filled with solid polymeric ferric sulfate and alternating aerobic-anaerobic layers, is proposed herein. The aerobic (anerobic) layers were filled with zeolite (zeolite and composite soil) at different intervals. This system was used for the treatment of synthetic sewage having COD: 122.0-227.0mg/L; NH3-N: 29.1-47.0mg/L; TN: 28.0-58.0mg/L; and TP: 2.0-3.8mg/L. Based on optimal operation conditions (40L/h reflow rate, without artificial aeration, and 12-h operation cycle), the system showed NH3-N, TN, COD, and TP removal efficiencies of 87.1 ± 8.1, 83.4 ± 7.9, 91.0 ± 9.4, and 80.0 ± 6.4%, respectively. Further, in the pilot-scale test, under the same optimal parameters, the removal efficiencies of NH3-N, TN, COD, and TP were 78.9 ± 8.1, 75.4 ± 7.9, 82 ± 9.4, and 76 ± 6.4%, respectively. Furthermore, in the different functional units of the system, a large number of functional bacteria capable of efficiently facilitating the simultaneous removal of the different pollutants from sewage were identified. Therefore, this proposed system, which complies with current environmental discharge regulations, can be a more sustainable approach for the treatment of unattended rural sewage.

Simultaneous removal of ammonia and volatile organic compounds from composting of dead pigs and manure using pilot-scale biofilter

ABSTRACT Odor emission is one of the most common problems associated with dead animals composting. Biofiltration treatment for eliminating exhaust odors formed during dead pigs and manure composting has been studied. The composting and biofiltration process consisted of two series of tests. Composting experimental trials lasted 6 weeks, and composting was performed using six pilot-scale reactor vessels. A total of 37 kinds of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) present in the air were identified, and temporal variations were determined during the 42 days of composting. Dimethyl sulfide (DMS), dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS), and trimethylamine (TMA) were identified as the main odors VOCs component according to odor active values (OAVs). Nine biofilter vessels containing mature compost were used in studying the effect of different (30, 60, and 100 s) empty bed retention times (EBRT) on the simultaneous removal efficiencies (REs) of NH3, DMS, DMDS, DMTS, and TMA. Results indicated that the inlet concentration of NH3 applied was 12–447 mg m−3, and the average removal efficiencies were 85.4%, 88.7%, and 89.0% for EBRTs of 30, 60, and 100 s, respectively. The average REs of DMS, DMDS, DMTS, and TMA were 79.2%–95.4%, 81.9%–94.0%, 76.7%–99.1%, and 92.9%–100%, respectively, and their maximum elimination capacity (ECs) were 220, 1301, 296, and 603 mg m−3 h−1, respectively. The optimal EBRT for the stimulation removal of NH3, DMS, DMDS, DMTS, and TMA was 60 s. Implications: Dimethyl sulfide (DMS), dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS), and trimethylamine (TMA) were identified as the main odors VOCs component during dead pigs and manure composting. Biofilter with mature as media can be used to stimulation remove NH3, DMS, DMDS, DMTS, and TMA, the optimal empty bed retention times EBRT was 60 s.

Simultaneous removal of ammonium from landfill leachate and hydrogen sulfide from biogas using a novel two-stage oxic-anoxic system

Anoxic biodesulfurization has been achieved in several bioreactor systems that have shown robustness and high elimination capacities (ECs). However, the high operating costs of this technology, which are mainly caused by the high requirements of nitrite or nitrate, make its full-scale application difficult. In the present study, the use of biologically produced nitrate/nitrite by nitrification of two different ammonium substrates, namely synthetic medium and landfill leachate, is proposed as a novel alternative. The results demonstrate the feasibility of using both ammonium substrates as nutrient solutions. A maximum elemental sulfur production of 95 ± 1% and a maximum H2S EC of 141.18 g S-H2S m−3 h−1 (RE = 95.0%) was obtained using landfill leachate as the ammonium source. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis of the microbial community revealed that the most common genera present in the desulfurizing bioreactor were Sulfurimonas (91.8–50.9%) followed by Thauera (1.1–24.2%) and Lentimicrobium (2.0–9.7%).

Simultaneous removal characteristics of ammonium and phenol by Alcaligenes faecalis strain WY-01 with the addition of acetate.

In this study, simultaneous removal of ammonium plus phenol could be achieved by Alcaligenes faecalis strain WY-01 with the addition of acetate, although acetate delayed the phenol degradation, probably due to the delayed expression of phenol hydroxylase gene under the presence of acetate. Moreover, the successful expression of key enzyme genes in strain WY-01 provided some evidence to illustrate its metabolic pathways of ammonium and phenol under aerobic conditions. Furthermore, SEM was used to clarify the role of acetate in resisting phenol toxicity, and these results demonstrated that strain WY-01 has the ability to form cell flocs when sodium acetate is used as co-substrate for a high concentration of phenol, and these flocs could protect cells against the toxicity of phenol, further enhancing phenol degradation in a high concentration of phenol. All these will provide further insights into the efficacy of strain WY-01 for treating wastewater cocontaminated by ammonium and phenol.
