Flight Control System Simulation for Quadcopter Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) based on Matlab Simulink

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) are widely used in military and civilian applications due to its advantages of strong maneuverability. Flight control system simulation of a UAV is always a research focus. At present, there are three major algorithms for a UAV flight control: strapdown inertial navigation system, Kalman filter algorithm, flight control Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) algorithm. In this study, UAV flight control system and quadcopter drone flight control principle are discussed. In addition, this research developed a dynamic model based on a thorough examination of the quadcopter drone’s frame construction and features. This dynamic model describes the transformation matrix of UAV coordinate system to ground coordinate system. Matlab Simulink was used to simulate a flight control system. A quadcopter drone’s vertical movement, yaw motion, pitching motion, and roll motion, as well as its flight attitude, were simulated and described. Dynamic modeling is developed based on the drone’s flight principle and force relationship in different motion states, as well as the Newton-Eulerian model. Matlab Simulink was used to simulate the trajectory of a quadcopter drone. The red line denotes the trajectory, while the black x markings denote a change in trajectory or a specific position. Blue lines that reflect the waypoint’s heading accompany specific poses. The results of this study could provide a good reference for the simulation of a UAV flight control system.

Flight Control System for UAV Based on Simulink

Most UAV flight control system simulation was used for evaluating the quality of UAV and designing it, however, the results failed to conform to actual flight laws. According to the need of UAV simulator in actually, a new way which was convenient for engineering computing and appropriated for simulation training was built for simulating flight control system. With the actual flight figures, flight parameters were modified by Least squares method curve fitting. The system offers a way for developing UAV simulation training system, thus of great value in both theory and practice.

Flight Control System Simulation Platform for UAV Based on Integrating Simulink With Stateflow

Aiming at rapidly analyzing and validating control strategy, control law and flight mode of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), a digital simulation test platform for flight control system (FCS) of UAV is presented in this paper. The platform is built on principles of hierarchy and modularity, its core is composed of flight mode management and control module, and the two components are implemented by using Matlab/Stateflow and embedded Simulink Function respectively. Simulation test for a certain type of UAV with a variety of flight mode, including remote control and autonomic flight, is achieved. Compared with actual flight test, the results of the simulation validate the rationality and validity of the modeling theories and method. Practices show that developing new type or modified FCS of UAV through this platform, similarity between simulation model and real aircraft can be improved, and this is useful to minimize the risk and increase flexibility for design changes. QFT Robust Control Design for 3-Axis Flight Table Servo System with Large Friction

The 3-axis flight table is an important device and a typical high performance position and speed servo system used in the hardware in the loop simulation of flight control system. Friction force and uncertainty are the main characteristics in the 3-axis flight table servo system. Based on the description of dynamic and static model of a nonlinear Stribeck friction model, and taking account of the practical uncertainties of 3-axis flight table servo system, the QFT controller is designed. Simulation and real-time results are presented.
