Enhancing Shear Strength of Weakly Consolidated Mudstone in Water-Diversion Tunnels Through Artificial Ground-Freezing Techniques: An Experimental and Theoretical Study

The utilization of artificial ground-freezing techniques is increasingly prevalent in the construction of water-diversion tunnels. The inadequate mechanical properties of weakly consolidated mudstone (WCM) pose significant challenges for tunneling construction. In this study, a series of triaxial shear tests were conducted on frozen specimens of WCM to elucidate its shear strength characteristics. The experiment involved four freezing temperatures (0, −5, −10, and −20 °C) and four confining pressures (1, 2, 3, and 4 MPa). The results indicate that the shear failure mode of the WCM exhibits distinct shear zone failure characteristics under artificial freezing conditions, particularly prominent in the lower temperature environments. As the freezing temperature gradually decreases, there is a substantial increase of over 200% in the shear strength of frozen specimens, accompanied by a corresponding decrease in yield strain. Furthermore, the cohesion and internal friction angle of frozen WCM increase as the freezing temperature decreases, following a complex exponential function relationship rather than a linear one. As the freezing temperature decreases from 0 °C to −20 °C, there is an increase in cohesion and internal friction angle from 1012 kPa to 1425 kPa, accompanied by a rise in the internal friction angle from 43.2° to 58.1°. Notably, the application of confining pressure exerts a pronounced influence on the shear strength of frozen WCM, with elevated levels of confining pressure resulting in a substantial augmentation of the shear strength. The failure mode of frozen WCM is significantly influenced by freezing temperatures. At low temperatures, the specimen of mudstone exhibits a shear failure behavior, while at high temperatures, it predominantly demonstrates expansion failure. This phenomenon can be attributed to the increased brittleness of specimens caused by ice crystals, rendering it more susceptible to brittle failure under shearing forces. These findings signify an enhancement in the mechanical behavior of WCM within the tunnel sidewall under artificial freezing conditions.

Efficient Production of Graphene through a Partially Frozen Suspension Exfoliation Process: An Insight into the Enhanced Interaction Based on Solid-Solid Interfaces.

Liquid phase exfoliation (LPE) offers a promising path for scalable graphene production, but struggles with high energy consumption and low yield, with over 99.99% of the input energy wasted. Here, we present an energy-efficient approach for producing graphene via partially frozen-suspension exfoliation (PFE). As opposed to traditional liquid-solid interfaces, the solid-solid interface enhances shear strength between the frozen solvent and graphite from about 40 N m-2 to 105 N m-2. Additionally, the suspension flow transitions from turbulent to laminar, aligning graphite parallel to the flow direction and conducive to the effective utilization of shear force. Compared to conventional liquid-phase exfoliation (LPE), PFE improves energy efficiency by 102∼103 times. Furthermore, a production rate of 5 g h-1 has been achieved in a 10 L tank at an ultralow shear rate of 3 × 102 s-1.

Innovative no-cure mortar for enhanced brick masonry performance: A mechanical properties analysis

The aim of this research study was to develop a novel blend of mortar that requires no curing in masonry construction. For this purpose, locally available materials such as cement, sand, marble waste and Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) were used in the preparation of the novel blend of mortar. The novel blend of mortar was finalized after assessing its properties with variation in the quantities of its constituent materials. Using the finalized blend of mortar, masonry prisms were fabricated and tested at 28 days of age for compression and diagonal tension, while triplet prisms were used for assessing its initial shear parameters. Results of masonry prisms built with the novel blend of mortar were compared with control specimens containing cement-sand mortar cured for different periods. The results indicated that the performance of masonry built with the novel blend is identical to that of conventional masonry cured for 28 days. However, compared to conventional masonry cured for 3 days, the masonry built with novel blend showed a 55%, 12% and 90% enhancement in shear strength, compressive strength and diagonal shear strength, respectively. The novel of blend of mortar can be used in masonry construction without the need of curing.

Enhanced shear and vibration behaviour of co-cured CFRP joints with innovative lamination techniques

ABSTRACT The adhesive bonding technique is extensively employed in large-scale component manufacturing to efficiently join the fibre-reinforced composite laminates. The following adhesive bonding techniques, such as secondary bonding, co-bonding and co-curing techniques, were modified by novel interleaved and covered lamination techniques. The shear and vibration behaviour of carbon fibre reinforced polymeric (CFRP) composite single lap joint were investigated per ASTM D5868 standards with innovative lamination techniques. The findings demonstrated that the Co-Curing with the Covered Lamination Technique (CL-CCT) showed an excellent shear strength of 88% higher than the secondary bonding technique. The Co-Curing with Interleaved Lamination Technique (IL-CCT) demonstrated a significant enhancement in shear strength, surpassing the secondary bonding technique by 74%. Furthermore, the Co-Bonding with the Covered Lamination Technique (CL-CBT) exhibited a 44% increase in natural frequency. The Co-Curing with Covered Lamination Technique (CL-CCT) also outperformed the conventional secondary bonding technique, demonstrating a remarkable 32% improvement in natural frequency. Eventually, the adhesive and cohesive failure modes are observed in the overlap zone of CFRP composite single-lap joints.

Enhancing shear strength of sandy soil using zein biopolymer

Ecofriendly stabilization using various biopolymers has been explored to enhance the soil strength and the stability of geotechnical structures. This study investigates the improvement of shear strength characteristics in sandy soils treated with a novel protein-based biopolymer, zein. Poorly- and well-graded sands are treated with three different biopolymer contents (1, 2, and 3 %) and cured for 1–28 days. Direct shear tests are conducted under four normal stresses to evaluate the shear behavior and strength parameters of treated and untreated sands. The treated sands exhibit higher peak shear stress and more brittle behavior than the untreated sands due to the formation of biopolymer gel between the soil particles. The treated specimens show a greater improvement in shear strength over longer curing periods, with variation based on soil gradation. After curing for 28 days, apparent cohesion and internal friction angle significantly increase, from 8.1 to 257 kPa and from 26 to 45.4⁰, respectively. Poorly graded sands demonstrate a greater improvement in shear strength compared to well-graded sands, owing to the higher pore spaces available for biopolymer filling and bonding. Thus, incorporating zein biopolymer can significantly enhance the shear strength characteristics of sandy soil, providing a sustainable alternative for soil stabilization in geotechnical engineering.

Enhancing interlaminar fracture toughness and shear strength of carbon fiber composite laminates via orientation of nickel-plated short carbon fibers in a magnetic field

This study aimed to enhance the interlaminar mechanical properties of carbon fiber composites by incorporating nickel-plated short carbon fibers (Ni@SCFs) between adjacent layers in a magnetic field. Herein, non-flocked composites, flocked composites with unoriented Ni@SCFs, and flocked composites with oriented Ni@SCFs using a magnetic field were fabricated to investigate the impact of fiber orientation on the mode I interlaminar fracture toughness (GIC) and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of the composite laminates. It was observed that Ni@SCFs were distributed at varying vertical angles between adjacent layers under the influence of the magnetic field. The areal density of oriented Ni@SCFs was systematically increased, resulting in notable enhancements in both initiation and propagation of GIC for flocked composites. At a flocking density of 6 g/m2, maximum values reached 533 J/m2 and 769 J/m2 respectively, representing a substantial increase of 52 % and 63 % compared to non-flocked composites. Additionally, the ILSS of flocked composites with oriented Ni@SCFs significantly improved to 55.83 MPa at a flocking density of 2 g/m2, indicating an increase of 27 % over non-flocked composites. The oriented Ni@SCFs played a crucial role in inhibiting crack propagation through the fiber bridging effect.

Polydopamine-induced biomimetic mineralization strategy to generate hydroxyapatite for the preparation of carbon fiber composites with excellent mechanical properties

Living organisms have developed a miraculous biomineralization strategy to form multistage organic-inorganic composites through the orderly assembly of hard/soft substances, achieving mechanical enhancement of materials from the nanoscale to the macroscale. Inspired by biominerals, this study used polydopamine (PDA) coating as a template to induce the growth of hydroxyapatite (HAP) on the surface of carbon fibers (CFs) for enhancing the interfacial properties of the CF/epoxy resin composites. This polydopamine-assisted hydroxyapatite formation (pHAF) biomimetic mineralization strategy constructs soft/hard ordered structure on the CF surface, which not only improves the chemical reaction activity of the CFs but also increases the fiber surface roughness. This, in turn, enhances the interaction and loading delivery among the fibers and the matrix. Compared to the untreated carbon fiber/epoxy resin (CF/EP) composites, the prepared composites showed a substantial enhancement in interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), flexural strength, and interfacial shear strength (IFSS), with improvements of 45.2 %, 46.9 %, and 60.5 %, respectively. This can be attributed to the HAP nanolayers increasing the adhesion and mechanical interlocking with the CFs to the matrix. This study provides an interface modification method of biomimetic mineralization for the preparation of high strength CF composites.

Bio-Electrokinetic Improvement of Deltaic Soil

In addressing problematic soils, geotechnical engineers employ two key strategies: compatibility and improvement. This study focuses on soft and CL deltaic sediments, and seeks to enhance cementation by investigating microbially-induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP). Sporosarcina pasteurii bacteria, together with a cementation solution (urea and calcium-containing salt), were electrokinetically injected into deltaic clay soil from the Telar River in Iran. The initial samples, with a dry unit weight (γd) of 12.75 kN/m³, underwent injections in two modes: simultaneous injection of the bacterial and cementation solutions and individual injection in a sequential order. Unconfined compression strength tests and laboratory vane shear tests were conducted to assess changes in soil strength parameters, while a consolidation test was performed to investigate alterations in soil settlement parameters. A comparative analysis with an electroosmosis control sample revealed a remarkable increase in compressive strength and undrained shear strength for MICP bio-electrokinetic improvement. Moreover, the consolidation test demonstrated that the compression index (Cc) and recompression index (Cr) exhibited a more pronounced decline in the simultaneous injection than individual injection. This highlights the dual impact of the bio-electrokinetic method, namely the enhancement of shear strength and the mitigation of settlement in deltaic clay soil. The calcium carbonate content was measured for the samples, and the results indicated a higher degree of participation for the samples subjected to simultaneous injection. Microstructure analyses were conducted on samples, and calcite and vaterite were observed in bio-cemented samples.

Novel sustainable techniques for enhancing shear strength of RC beams mitigating construction failure risk

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of various innovative and sustainable methods for improving the shear performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams. The potential risk of failure for such elements is considered a potential threat, therefore, this study addresses it through experimental tests and numerical analyses to be mitigated carefully in order to enhance the safety and sustainability of buildings. A total of eleven specimens, comprising two control specimens and nine strengthened specimens, underwent three-point testing. Several proposed strengthening techniques, each involving multiple parameters, were examined. In the initial approach, glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) textile embedded in an external fiber-reinforced cementitious mortar (FRCM) jacket was utilized, with an evaluation of the number of the GFRP textile layers (1, 2, and 3 layers). The second technique incorporated near surface mounted (NSM) GFRP bars along with the FRCM jacketing, where the diameter of the GFRP bars (10, 12, and 16 mm) served as the primary parameter. In the final technique, externally bonded stainless-steel strips (SSSs) of varying thicknesses (1, 1.25, 1.50 mm) were affixed to the beams’ surface. The obtained results revealed that the application of the FRCM jacketing method yielded positive results, showing a significant 30.7 % average increase in the crack initiation load and a 17.1 % improvement in the failure load compared to the defected beam. However, issues of debonding beneath the loading point were observed in the FRCM jacket, particularly with three layers of the GFRP textile, leading to the separation of the concrete cover. Moreover, combining the NSM GFRP bars with an FRCM jacket addressed the absence of shear stirrups. The most remarkable improvement was noted utilizing the NSM GFRP bars and an FRCM jacket, followed by employing SSSs with an FRCM jacket.

Experimental behaviour, FE modelling and design of large-scale reinforced concrete deep beams shear-strengthened with embedded fibre reinforced polymer bars

Reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams are widely used in buildings and bridges. However, research on shear strengthening of RC deep beams with embedded fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) bars is limited. This paper presents the first comprehensive study on the experimental behaviour, nonlinear finite element (NLFE) modelling and design of large-scale RC deep beams strengthened in shear with embedded carbon or glass FRP (CFRP or GFRP) bars. An experimental investigation comprising three large-scale RC deep beams was conducted. Subsequently, a three-dimensional NLFE model was developed and validated against the experimental results. The validated NLFE model was used to perform a parametric study, examining the influence of FRP bar type and steel-to-FRP shear reinforcement ratio on shear strength enhancement. The results of the parametric study were utilized to calibrate and validate a novel design model. The results showed that embedded FRP bars can enhance the shear force capacity of large-scale RC deep beams by up to 40 %. The effect of FRP bar type on the shear strength enhancement was insignificant. However, there was 13 % reduction in shear force gain due to the increase in steel-to-FRP shear reinforcement ratio from 0.77 to 10.0. The novel design model reproduced the NLFE results with a mean ratio of 0.921 and a standard deviation of 0.018. Finally, the ability of the design model to capture the effect of the investigated parameters was demonstrated.

The influence of olive kernel ash obtained from canning factory as a bitumen modifier

Today, the construction sector experiences significant pressure to use green and sustainable materials. In this framework, using biological components derived from agricultural products is the most interesting topic for the stability of asphalt pavement construction materials. Furthermore, the escalation in demand for transportation infrastructure has resulted in a rapid surge in the volume of traffic and premature degradation of asphalt pavements. The primary objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of olive kernel ash (OKA) obtained from olive canning factories in modifying the characteristics of asphalt. The investigation of this function has not been explored in prior research. To this end, a comprehensive analysis of morphological, Thermogravimetric, chemical, and phase separation was conducted, in addition to physical and rheological testing, over three distinct temperature ranges: high, intermediate, and low. The results showed that OKA is thermally stable and has a slow decomposition. Also, using OKA, compared to most biomass employed in bitumen, exhibits a satisfactory amount of phase separation. Despite the enhanced shear strength, the modified samples incorporating OKA do not encounter any operational challenges regarding transportation and pumping. The findings from the rheological experiments indicate that incorporating 20 % OKA in bitumen can increase the shear modulus up to 71 % and recovery percentage up to 20 %. Therefore, it significantly enhances the resistance to permanent deformation under high temperatures. The increase in molecular weight and asphaltene phase creates a resistant binder against high temperatures. Meanwhile, the fatigue life of modified samples containing 20 % OKA decreased to 59 %. However, applying the highest shear stress to the sample containing OKA experiences demonstrates its ability to resist this stress for longer. Also, it was found that regulating the OKA dosage in bitumen can maintain its acceptable resistance level to cracking at low temperatures. This phenomenon is due to the positive effect of OKA on the viscoelastic characteristics of bitumen. Based on our assessments, it has been observed that incorporating OKA up to 20 % in bitumen consistently enhances its performance capabilities at high temperatures. Nevertheless, while using this modified bitumen in cold regions, limiting its utilization to a maximum of 5 % is advisable.

Bond Shear Tests to Evaluate Different CFRP Shear Strengthening Strategies for I-Shaped Concrete Cross-Sections.

I-shaped concrete girders are widely used in precast bridge and roof construction, making them a common structural component in existing infrastructure. Despite well-established strengthening techniques using various innovative materials, such as externally bonded carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) reinforcement, the shear strengthening of an I-shaped concrete girder is not straightforward. Several research studies have shown that externally bonded CFRP reinforcement might exhibit early debonding at the concave corners of the I-shape, resulting in a marginal increase in shear capacity. This research study aims to assess the performance of two different CFRP shear strengthening strategies for I-shaped concrete cross-sections. In the first strategy, CFRP was bonded along the I-shape of the cross-section with the provision of additional anchorage. In the second strategy, the I-shape was transformed into a rectangular shape by using in-fill blocks over which the CFRP was bonded in a U-configuration. In addition to the strengthening strategies, the investigated parameters included two different materials for the in-fill blocks (conventional and aerated concrete) and two different anchoring schemes (bolted steel plate anchor and CFRP spike anchor). To avoid testing on large-scale girders, a new test methodology has been implemented on concrete I-sections. The test results demonstrate the feasibility of comparing different shear strengthening configurations dedicated to I-sections. Among other findings, the results showed that the local transformation of the I-shape to an equivalent rectangular shape could be a viable solution, resulting in shear strength enhancement of 12% to 53% without and with the anchorages, respectively.

Microstructure modification and mechanical reinforcement in sub-10 μm scale Cu/Sn–Ag/Cu microbump joints via Co-addition of Zn and Ni in Cu substrates

The trend towards miniaturization of solder joints addresses the need for high-density interconnections in microelectronics. Excessive intermetallic compounds (IMC) and phase transformations cause internal stresses, leading to voiding and cracking in conventional microbumps. Therefore, advanced microbump design must focus on IMC suppression and phase stabilization. This study explores Cu–26Zn–18Ni/Sn-3.5Ag/Cu–26Zn–18Ni microbumps, comparing them to conventional Cu/Sn-3.5Ag/Cu under various reflow times. High-field emission electron probe micro-analysis and transmission electron microscopy reveal improved microstructures. Electron backscatter diffraction confirms the (Cu,Ni)6(Sn,Zn)5 grain size of several hundreds of nanometers. Fracture modes were established based on the correlation between shear testing and fracture surfaces. Cu–26Zn–18Ni/Sn-3.5Ag/Cu–26Zn–18Ni microbumps enhanced shear strength (19.6 %–97.8 %) and failure toughness (10.6 %–132.1 %) compared to Cu/Sn-3.5Ag/Cu. The solid solution strengthened and refined (Cu,Ni)6(Sn,Zn)5 combined with tough bulk (Cu,Ag)5(Sn,Zn)8 in Cu–26Zn–18Ni/Sn-3.5Ag/Cu–26Zn–18Ni microbumps, demonstrate a tough microstructure. These findings provide insights into the design of microbumps with a bonding height in sub-10micron scales.

Strength behaviour of soil blended with two waste materials-fly ash and tire crumbs with cement

Abstract The rapid development in the economy has led to a growing need for electricity and automobiles, leading to the production of large quantities of fly ash (FA) and discarded tires. The safe disposal of these materials has become a significant problem. FA and scrap tyre derived material has some useful properties which can be beneficially used for enhancing the engineering properties of soil. Therefore, the study investigates the combined impact of FA and scrap tire-derived material on the stress-strain-strength behaviour of a fine-grained residual lateritic soil, incorporating a cementing agent. The research involves compaction tests followed by triaxial compression tests, where FA content added at an increment of 15% starting from 20% by weight of soil. The maximum FA content used in the mix is 50% by weight of soil. Tyre crumb (TC) which is a scrap tire-derived material, is also included in the study, with TC content ranging from 5% to 10% by weight. Additionally, 2% by weight of cement is added to each soil mix as a binding agent. Specimens are compacted in accordance with specific compaction parameters and subsequently cured for duration of up to 28 days. Strength tests are then carried out on those specimens to analyse their strength behaviour. This research primarily examines the shear strength characteristics of soil blended with FA, cement, and TC, emphasizing their geotechnical performance. Addition of 5% TC increases the peak deviator stress of cemented mix having 50% FA content from 1351 kPa to 2710 kPa at 300 kPa confining pressure and 28 days curing period. The inclusion of TC to soil-FA-cement blends is noted to significantly enhance shear strength when compared to mixes without tire crumb. Also, the stress-strain behaviour of soil is significantly influenced by addition of FA and cement in the presence of TC. Therefore, there is an ample scope of utilization of soil-fly ash-cement-TC mixes in geotechnical applications.

Bond performance of marine concrete with nano-particles to steel bars under the action of both Cl− erosion and freeze-thaw cycles

Offshore structures serve in harsh environment here the combined effects of freeze-thaw cycles and Cl− erosion severely degrade the bond performance between steel bars and concrete, significantly reducing the structures' service life. This paper investigates the bond performance of marine concrete with nano-particles to steel bars under the simultaneous influence of Cl− erosion and freeze-thaw cycles. The bond-slip (τ-s) curves are derived from pull-out tests, in order to reveal the mechanism of nano-particles to improve the bond performance of reinforced concrete under the action of both Cl− erosion and freeze-thaw cycles, the microstructure of the bond interface between steel bar and concrete is examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and mercury impression test (MIP). The test results show that adding nano-SiO2 and nano-TiO2 enhance the cracking bond strength (τs), ultimate bond strength (τu), ultimate slip value (Su), and residual bond strength (τr) of reinforced concrete. The optimal content for both nano-SiO2 and nano-TiO2 are 2 %, with nano-SiO2 showing superior effect. When Cl− erosion and the number of freeze-thaw cycles are certain (N = 100), the τu values of NSC20 and NTC20 are increased by 26.25 % and 16.68 %, and the Su values are increased by 25.30 % and 22.89 %, respectively, compared with PC. The results of the SEM and EDS analyses indicate that nano-particles promote C–S–H gel formation, reduce porosity and optimize concrete's pore structure, enhance shear strength at the bonding surface, reduce Cl− content at the interface, slow down the corrosion of the steel bars. Thus, the addition of nano-particles significantly improves the bond performance of reinforced concrete under the action of both Cl− erosion and freeze-thaw cycles, which is vital for enhancing the load-bearing capacity and seismic performance of engineering structures.

Nanostructure and interfacial mechanical properties of PEG/cellulose nanocomposites studied with molecular dynamics

Our starting hypothesis is that Polyethylene glycol (PEG) can be utilized to mix with the biopolymers for consolidating fiber-reinforced composites without deteriorating their hygro-mechanical properties. The effect of PEG on the shear strength during pull-out of crystalline cellulose (CC) fiber out of an amorphous cellulose matrix is simulated with molecular dynamics. The interfacial shear stress shows a stick-slip behavior and is weakened with increasing moisture content. Shear strength increases at low moisture content, manifesting a slight strengthening of interfacial mechanical property due to cohesive forces exerted by the water molecules. At higher moisture content, shear strength is reduced due to breakage of the hydrogen bonds between CC and matrix by water molecules. When adding PEG, amorphous cellulose around the crystalline fiber is replaced by PEG, forming a mixture with amorphous cellulose. It is found that PEG-treated CC-AC composite maintains its shear strength and the presence of PEG does not deteriorate the dependence of the shear strength on moisture content. A shear strength model based on the number of hydrogen bonds between the fiber and the matrix is developed, which validates our initial hypothesis by unraveling the fundamental mechanisms at play. The model reveals that, although the shear strength per hydrogen bond between the fiber and PEG is lower than the shear strength per hydrogen bond between the fiber and amorphous cellulose, the final shear strength is partly compensated by an increase in the total number of hydrogen bonds with increasing PEG ratio. Since PEG reduces the moisture content in the composite at low relative humidity, PEG treated wood in museum conditions will show enhanced shear strength. The framework is a basis for further investigation of realistic archaeological wood with PEG-treatment.

Comprehensive Review of Geotechnical Engineering Properties of Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate Fibers and Strips for Soil Stabilization.

The waste management of plastic has become a pressing environmental issue, with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) being one of the major contributors. To address this challenge, the utilization of recycled PET fibers and strips in geotechnical engineering applications for soil stabilization has gained considerable attention. This review aims to provide a comprehensive study of the geotechnical engineering properties of recycled-PET-reinforced soils. The review examines various factors influencing the performance of PET-reinforced soils, including PET percent content, fiber length, and aspect ratio. It evaluates the mechanical properties, like shear strength, compressibility, bearing capacity, hydraulic behavior, and durability of recycled-PET-reinforced soils. The findings reveal PET reinforcement enhances shear strength, reduces settlement, and increases the bearing capacity and stability of the soil. However, it is observed that the incorporation of recycled PET fibers and strips does not lead to a significant impact on the dry density of the soil. Finally, an environmental and cost comparison analysis of recycled PET fibers and strips was conducted. Highly adhesive and impact‐strengthening supramolecular polyurethane derived from facile incorporation of UPy motifs toward energy dissipation binding applications

AbstractThe implementation of hot melt adhesives reaching structural adhesion with both impact resistance and detachability is of prospective industry value but still remains challenging. In this work, 2‐amino‐4‐hydroxy‐6‐methylpyrimidine serving as both chain extender and end‐capping reagent due to its isomerism, was developed to construct a supramolecular polyurethane‐derived hot melt structural adhesive. The as‐synthesized PUM elastomers occurs obvious decrease of molecular weight at 80°C compared to room temperature, revealing the existence of self‐complementary 2‐ureido‐4[1H]‐pyrimidinone (UPy) motifs at chain ends. This unique structure allows to chemically incorporate abundant hierarchical and quadruple hydrogen bonding moieties, which results in remarkable enhancement of shear strength, ranging from 6.4 to 16.6 MPa. More importantly, it also exhibits unique impact‐strengthening and reproducible adhering ability. The Hopkinson‐press‐bar and cyclic tensile tests manifest that quadruple hydrogen bonds play a pivotal role in buffering external forces and increasing energy dissipation when exposed to high velocity impacts. The true stress and strain synchronously increase as the strain rate augments while the shear strength can even roar up to ~18 MPa at high tensile speed. With regard to mild synthetic conditions, atomic economic use of reactants, it is promising that this material has industrial potential to be utilized in applications referred to energy‐absorption and reproducible structural adhesion.
