The relationship between body image and sexual satisfaction in women who have undergone hysterectomy.

This study aims to examine the relationship between body image and the level of sexual satisfaction in women who have undergone a hysterectomy. This descriptive study utilized a relational screening model. Conducted between June 2023 and March 2024, the study included a total of 300 sexually active women who had undergone a hysterectomy 6 months prior. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale, and the Body Image Scale through face-to-face interviews lasting approximately 20-30 min. The average age of the participating women was 44.4±10.55 years. Of the participants, 96.7% were married and 42.4% had entered menopause. The average score on the Body Image Scale was 81.2±3.8, and the average score on the Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale was 33.0±15.1. A positive significant relationship was found between body image and sexual satisfaction (p<0.05). There was also a statistically significant positive relationship between the total scores on the Body Image Scale and the Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale with age and frequency of sexual intercourse (p=0.049, p<0.001, p<0.001, p=0.047, and p=0.014). It was determined that as the age and frequency of sexual intercourse increased, the levels of body image and sexual satisfaction also increased. Our study found that women's self-image is negatively affected, and their level of sexual satisfaction decreases following a hysterectomy.

Interpersonal Difficulties Arising from Child Sexual Abuse: Differences Between Intra-familial and Extra-familial Abuse Victims.

Child sexual abuse (CSA) often has serious implications for the victims. The scientific literature reflects a diversity of sequelae that may appear in the short and long term. Interpersonal difficulties have been shown to be one of the most common consequences. However, studies comparing these sequelae between victims of intra-familial (IF) and extra-familial (EF) CSA are scarce. The aim of this research was to analyze differences in dyadic satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and attachment patterns in adulthood between Spanish IF victims, EF victims, and non-victims of CSA. The Sexual Victimization Subscale of the Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire, the Relationship Assessment Scale, the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale, and the Adult Attachment Questionnaire were administered to 140 adults (94 CSA victims and 46 non-victims) aged 18 to 54 years. CSA victims scored lower than the non-victims on the personal sexual satisfaction factor and attachment factors characterized by the need for approval, hostile resolution of conflicts, and emotional self-sufficiency. Statistically significant differences were also found between the victim groups in the factors characterized by the need for approval and communication of feelings and comfort with relationships showing the IF group to have more impairment in these areas than the EF group. In conclusion, CSA may have serious implications for the development of victims' interpersonal relationships. The context of sexual abuse and the relationship between victim and offender appears to play a role in the development of relational problems. These findings highlight the need to implement specific strategies in the psychological treatment of victims depending on their relationship with the offender and the environment in which the abuse occurred.

The Mediating Role of Sexual Satisfaction and Anger in the Relationship Between Partner-Related Obsessive Compulsive Symptoms and Sexual Self-Schema

Aim: The study was conducted to examine the relationship between partner-related obsessive-compulsive symptoms and sexual self-schemas and to determine the indirect effect of sexual satisfaction and anger on this relationship. Method: The research was conducted with 510 volunteer participants aged 18-50. The participants participated on a voluntary basis and the sample was reached randomly. Personal Information Form, Sexual Self-Schema Scale, The Trait Anger Expression Scale, New Sexual Satisfaction Scale and Partner-Related Obsessive-Compulsive Symptom Scale were used to collect the data. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 27 software. Results: The findings of the study revealed that there was a significant negative relationship between obsessive-compulsive symptoms related to the partner and sexual satisfaction and sexual self-schemas, and a significant positive relationship with anger. A positive relationship was found between sexual self-schemas and sexual satisfaction. A significant negative relationship was found between anger and sexual satisfaction and sexual self-schemas. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was found that there was a significant negative relationship between individuals' having obsessive-compulsive symptoms and their sexual self-schemas, and that anger and sexual satisfaction had a significant indirect effect on this relationship.

The relational correlates of sexual desire and distress in Turkish women: a structural equation model

The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between relational factors and sexual desire and sexual distress. In order to achieve these goals, a sample of 788 married Turkish women was recruited through social media platforms between June and July 2022. The study employed three instruments to assess the relevant variables: the Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women to measure sexual distress, the Female Sexual Function Index to assess sexual desire, and the Couple Burnout Measure Short Form to evaluate couple burnout. Structural equation modeling was utilized to analyze the data and test the proposed models. The initial model indicated a negative correlation between marriage length, parenthood, couple burnout, and sexual desire. The employment status of the participants was not found to be a significant factor. The second model revealed that marriage length, parenthood, and sexual desire were negatively correlated with sexual distress, whereas couple burnout was positively associated. In conclusion, our study highlights the intricate interplay between various factors and their impact on sexual desire and distress among married women. Specifically, marriage length, parenthood, and couple burnout were identified as significant determinants of sexual desire and distress. These findings underscore the importance of addressing relationship dynamics, parental responsibilities, and couple well-being in order to promote sexual well-being within committed relationships.

The role of sexual communication in the relationship between emotion regulation and sexual functioning in women: The impact of age and relationship status

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to investigate sexual communication as a mechanism involved in the link between emotion regulation and sexual functioning in a sample of adult women, also testing the moderating role of relationship status and age in this association. Method1344 sexually active cisgender women (aged 18–57, M = 27.34; SD= 6.484) were recruited from March 30, 2021, to April 12, 2021, through an online survey. From the initial sample, 1280 women were retained and included in the analysis. Participants were asked to respond to three self-report questionnaires: the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), the Communication subscale of the Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women (SSS-W), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). ResultsWe found that sexual communication mediated the link between emotion regulation abilities and female sexual functioning. Moreover, we found that age, but not relationship status, moderated the association between emotion regulation and sexual communication, so that older women with difficulties in emotion regulation processes showed worse sexual communication abilities as compared to younger women. ConclusionsAccording to this study's results, clinicians and sexual therapists should carefully consider emotion regulation abilities and sexual communication as crucial factors in promoting women's sexual well-being.

Body Image Concern, Sexual Esteem and Marital Satisfaction in Young Married Adults

This correlational research aims to study body image concerns, sexual esteem and marital satisfaction in young married adults. The sample consist of N = 163 young married adults from Lahore, Pakistan. The measures included Body Image Concern Scale (He et al., 2017), Sexual Esteem Scale (Snell &amp; Papini, 1989) and ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (Fowers &amp; Olson, 1993) in addition to demographic information sheet. The findings revealed that body image concerns negatively (-0.34, p &lt; .001) while sexual esteem positively (0.42, p &lt; .001) relates to marital satisfaction. Significant gender differences revealed that men tend to have better sexual esteem (t = 2.90, df = 161, p &lt;0.01) and marital satisfaction (t = 2.01, df = 161, p &lt;0.05) than women. Increase in total family income, marital satisfaction tends to increase. The mediation analysis revealed that sexual esteem serves as a mediator between concerns about body image and marital satisfaction. The study implies potential development of therapeutic interventions for enhancing marriage satisfaction and addressing societal stigmatization of body ideals for improved marital quality.

Underneath the Sheets: a Cross-Cultural Cluster Analysis of Older Adults’ Patterns of Aging and Sexual Well-Being in Portugal and Mexico

AbstractThis study aims to assess the patterns of life satisfaction with life (SwL), sexual satisfaction, and adjustment to aging (AtA), of older adults in Mexico and Portugal. A sample of 658 older adults, aged 65 years-old and older, from Mexico and Portugal were recruited for this cross-cultural study. The following measures were applied: (a) Adjustment to Aging Scale (ATAS); (b) Satisfaction with Life Scale (SwLS); (c) New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS); (d) Mini-Mental State Exam; and (e) Sociodemographic, health and lifestyle questionnaire. Clusters were identified and characterized by using K-means cluster analysis, encompassing SwL, AtA, and sexual satisfaction. Sexual well-being differences among clusters were analyzed with One-way ANOVAs. Findings indicated three clusters, which explained 76.4% (R-sq = 0.764) of the total variance: Cluster #1: “Moderately adjusted older adults” (n = 355, 53.9%), Cluster #2: “Moderately fulfilled older adults” (n = 265, 40.3%), and Cluster 3: “Well adjusted and satisfied older adults” (n = 38, 5.8%). Participants in Cluster #1 were mostly Mexican, with moderate levels of AtA and reduced sexual satisfaction and SwL. Conversely, Cluster #2 predominantly consisted of Portuguese participants with moderate sexual satisfaction and SwL, and lower levels of AtA. Participants from Cluster #3 were mostly Portuguese with high levels of AtA, sexual satisfaction, and SwL. This innovative study explored the intricate relationship between sexual well-being, the ability to adjust to aging, and overall SwL, in two different cultural contexts. Findings contributed to the understanding of the relationship between these three variables and for developing tailored future interventions and service planning with older adults in different cultures.

(063) ORGASM FUNCTION AND SEXUAL SATISFACTION: A COMPARISON BETWEEN PRE- VERSUS POSTMENOPAUSAL CISGENDER WOMEN

Abstract Introduction Despite the prevalence, relevance, and impact of menopause on people with ovaries, there is a paucity of research on its impact on sexual function and satisfaction. While an association between menopause and sexual dysfunction has been found, no studies assessed objective parameters of orgasm function and many utilized sexual satisfaction surveys that did not include participants’ perceptions of their sexual partner(s). Objective This study aimed to assess differences between pre- versus postmenopausal cisgender women using a six-parameter inventory of orgasm function and a validated sexual satisfaction psychometric scale, using both ego-centered and partner-centered measures. Methods Respondents were recruited and administered an anonymous, online questionnaire via Qualtrics as part of a larger study on sexual function and erogenous sensation. The questionnaire queried demographic information, menopause status, and six parameters of orgasm function under the controlled scenario of solo masturbation. Satisfaction with sexual activity with a partner was measured by the validated New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS), a 20-item psychometric survey that measures sexual satisfaction in the past six months across two subscales: the ego-centered and partner-/activity-centered subscale. The 5-point Likert scales for all 20 questions were summated, for a total possible score of 20 (minimum sexual satisfaction) to 100 (maximum sexual satisfaction). Statistical analyses were completed using Qualtrics Stats iQ, utilizing ANOVA and chi-square tests. Results A total of 283 cisgender women completed the study questionnaire. Premenopausal women were significantly more likely to report a higher average frequency of engaging in sexual activities with a partner and solo masturbation (Table 1). Of the six orgasm parameters (Table 2), the only statistically significant difference existed in the experience of orgasm as peaks, with more postmenopausal women reporting a multi-peaked orgasm versus a single-peak orgasm. The average NSSS score amongst all cisgender women in our sample was 68±20, and there was no statistically significant difference (p&amp;lt;0.8) between pre- versus postmenopausal cisgender women. Of the 20 questions within the NSSS, there was no statistically significant difference in 10/10 and 9/10 of the partner-centered NSSS subscale questions between the two groups. The only statistically significant difference between groups was premenopausal women reported higher satisfaction with the partner-centered measure of “The way I sexually react to my partner” (p&amp;lt;0.05). Conclusions Contrary to the medical literature, we found no significant difference in total sexual satisfaction between pre- versus postmenopausal cisgender women, as measured by the validated NSSS. Moreover, there was no significant difference in 5/6 of the orgasm parameter measurements. While sexual satisfaction is intrinsically linked to sexual function, it is important to note that self-perception of partner and activities may also play an important role in shaping an individual’s pleasure during sex. These findings highlight the importance of considering these nuances when assessing sexual satisfaction and may help to better inform the sexual function/satisfaction expectations of cisgender women as they approach menopause. (072) ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN MASTURBATORY ORGASM FUNCTION AND PARTNERED SEXUAL SATISFACTION IN CISGENDER WOMEN

Abstract Introduction Masturbation has been associated with a number of health and quality of life benefits, including improved self-esteem, sexual agency, and stress relief. While prior studies have asserted an association between solo masturbation and satisfaction with partnered sex, there is a paucity of literature that assesses specific parameters of masturbatory orgasm function and their potential association with sexual satisfaction. Objective This study aims to explore the association between satisfaction with partnered sex and six parameters of masturbatory orgasm function/satisfaction. Methods Respondents were recruited via Qualtrics and completed an anonymous, online questionnaire that assessed sexual satisfaction, based on the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS)–a validated, 20-item survey. NSSS scores were calculated by summing the possible 5-point Likert scale ratings across all 20 questions, with a higher NSSS score indicating greater satisfaction with partnered sex. Respondents also completed questions that queried frequency of masturbation and partnered-sexual activity, as well as six parameters of orgasm function measured under the condition of solo-masturbation: lead time to orgasm, duration of orgasm, refractory period between orgasms, location of orgasm experience, experience of orgasm, and satisfaction with orgasm. Statistical analyses were completed using Qualtrics Stats iQ software to assess for an association between NSSS score and the aforementioned variables. Results A sample of n=178 sexually active cisgender women (mean age = 43.6±14.9 years) completed the study survey. Cisgender women who reported higher NSSS scores were significantly more likely to endorse engaging in partnered sexual activities on a more frequent basis (p&amp;lt;0.05), but there was no statistically significant relationship between NSSS score and frequency of solo-masturbation (p=0.2). A statistically significant relationship existed between NSSS score and 2/6 of the masturbatory orgasm parameters assessed (Figure 1). Cisgender women with higher partnered sexual satisfaction scores reported significantly longer duration of masturbatory orgasm and higher satisfaction with orgasm during masturbation (both p&amp;lt;0.01). There were otherwise no significant associations between NSSS score and lead-time to orgasm, refractory period between orgasms, experience of orgasm as single vs. multiple peaks, or bodily location of orgasm experience under the condition of masturbation. Conclusions Cisgender women who reported more frequent partnered sexual activity, as well as a longer duration of masturbatory orgasm time and higher satisfaction with orgasm from masturbation, reported significantly greater partnered sexual satisfaction. This association between satisfaction with solo masturbation and satisfaction with partnered sexual activity supports leading theories of masturbation improving body knowledge, self-confidence, and sexual agency. Findings also highlight how variability in orgasm function does not always result in differences in sexual satisfaction, which is more so associated with self-perceived orgasm satisfaction. (064) DIFFERENCES IN EROGENOUS SENSATION AND SEXUAL SATISFACTION BETWEEN PRE- VERSUS POSTMENOPAUSAL CISGENDER WOMEN

Abstract Introduction Menopause has been associated with a myriad of genitourinary and sexual function symptoms that revolve around changes to the vulva and vagina. The medical literature at present primarily assesses genitourinary syndromes of menopause, with limited focus on how these physiological changes to the vulva and vagina may impact sexual function and satisfaction. Objective To describe differences that exist between pre- versus postmenopausal women in erogenous sensation zone (ESZ) maps of the vulva and measured satisfaction with partnered sex. Methods Sexually active cisgender women were recruited via Qualtrics and completed an anonymous, online questionnaire. Respondents viewed anatomic illustrations of the vulva with nine predefined areas and were instructed to select structures that bring them pleasure when touched during sex with a partner. A map of erogenous sensation of the vulva was then created based on the number of respondents selecting each structure. Respondents also completed the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS), a 20-item psychometric survey that assesses sexual satisfaction with partnered sex on a 5-point Likert scale, with potential scores ranging from 20 (minimal sexual satisfaction) to 100 (maximum sexual satisfaction). Results Pre- and postmenopausal women were equally as likely to select at least one ESZ of the vulva (77% premenopausal women vs 81% postmenopausal women, p=0.4). The vaginal introitus, peri urethra, and clitoris were the three most frequently selected structures out of the nine ESZs of the vulva out of all respondents (Figure 1). Assessment for differences in selection between pre- and postmenopausal women for each structure revealed that significantly more premenopausal women selected the clitoris as erogenous (43% vs 32%, p&amp;lt;0.03). There was no statistically significant difference in the other vulvar ESZs. With respect to partnered sexual satisfaction (as measured by the NSSS), there was no statistically significant difference between groups. Premenopausal women reported an average NSSS score of 69 out of 100 and postmenopausal women 67 out of 100 (p=0.3). Conclusions While premenopausal women were significantly more likely to report the clitoris as erogenous as compared to postmenopausal women, there was no significant difference between groups in erogenous mapping of the eight other vulvar structures. This finding of reduced clitoral erogeneity is supported by the phenomenon of vulvovaginal atrophy, which is associated with the reduction in estrogen and other sex steroids that occurs during menopause. While menopause has been associated with sexual dysfunction, we found no statistically significant difference in self-reported satisfaction with partnered sexual activities. Disclosure No.

Quality of life in women with normal pregnancy

Pregnancy affects a woman’s physiological and psychological state. One of the most important aspects that requires attention is the quality of life of pregnant women. The quality of life of women during this period is influenced by a number of factors, such as back and pelvic pain, physiotherapy and physical activity, and also sexual satisfaction. Eighty-five women aged 21–40 years (30.80 ± 5.05) in pregnancy trimesters participated in the study: 17 women were in the first trimester, 32 women were in the second, and 36 women in the third trimester. The World Health Organisation Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and the Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women SSS-W-R15 were used to answer the research hypotheses. Respondents also provided information on questions regarding physiotherapy treatments and physical activity. Quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) and disability due to back pain (ODI) showed a statistical association and relationship (p-value = 0.045, rho = − 0.22). Quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) has an association with sexual satisfaction in pregnant women (SSS-W-R15) (p-value = 0.003, rho = 0.32). The trimester of pregnancy has an effect on ODI (p-value = 0.027). A significant effect occurred in a detailed comparison between the first and third trimesters of pregnancy (p-value = 0.026). The trimester also has an impact on quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) (p-value = 0.002). In a detailed analysis, a significant effect occurred between the first and third trimesters of pregnancy (p-value = 0.001). Moreover, the trimester of pregnancy has an impact on sexual satisfaction (SSS-W-R15) (p-value = 0.027). After detailed statistical analysis, a significant effect occurred between trimesters one and three of pregnancy (p-value = 0.046). On the other hand, the number of days of physical activity performed by pregnant women per month and the type of physical activity had no effect on the ODI (p-value = 0.071). The type of physical activity performed by pregnant women also has no effect on ODI (p-value = 0.023). The number of physiotherapy treatments used has no effect on the ODI (p-value = 0.156). Type of physiotherapy treatment has no effect on ODI (p-value = 0.620). Normal pregnancy quality of life (WHOQOL) is related to ODI and sexual satisfaction (SSS-W-R15), while the trimester of pregnancy also has an impact on quality of life, disability due to back pain and sexual satisfaction.

Association of childbirth experience with long–term psychological outcomes: a prospective cohort study

BackgroundThere has been limited research on the lasting impact of giving birth on both mothers and infants. This study aimed to investigate women’s memories of their childbirth experience 4 months and 4 years after giving birth. Additionally, it aimed to examine how the childbirth experience is linked to women’s mental health, sexual satisfaction, exclusive breastfeeding, and the type of subsequent birth.MethodsIn this prospective cohort study, a total of 580 women giving birth in Tabriz hospitals in 2018 were followed up for 4 years. The data were collected using a childbirth experience questionnaire, a mental health inventory, and a sexual satisfaction scale for women, and were analyzed by a Pearson correlation test, an independent samples t-test, and a general linear model.ResultsThe total scores of the childbirth experience in two short-term (4 months) and long-term (4 years) time points following the birth had a significant and strong correlation with each other (r = .51; p < .001). After adjusting for the effects of socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics, sexual satisfaction had significant relationships with childbirth experience (p < .001) and postpartum complications (p < .001). In addition, mental health had significant relationships with childbirth experience (p < .001), postpartum complications (p < .001), and low income (p = .004).ConclusionsEven 4 years after giving birth, women have a clear recall of their childbirth experience. This experience has a significant association with long-term outcomes such as sexual satisfaction, mental health, exclusive breastfeeding, and subsequent birth type.

The Relationship Between Object Relations and Relationship Satisfaction, Marital Adjustment, and Sexual Satisfaction: The Mediating Role of Narcissistic and Borderline Personality Traits

The aim of this study was to elucidate the psychological dynamics of marital relationships, which are among the most significant structures of society. The purpose of research was to examine the mediating roles of borderline and narcissistic personality traits in the relationship between object relations and marital adjustment, relationship satisfaction, and sexual satisfaction. The study group consisted of adult individuals aged 18 and older. Of the total 809 participants, 407 (50.3%) are female and 402 (49.7%) are male, all of whom are married. 320 participants are in the 18-30 age range, 318 are in the 31-45 age range, and 171 are 45 years old and above. Marriage Adjustment Scale, Relationship Satisfaction Scale (RSS), Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale (GRSS) Female-Male Form, Bell Object Relations and Reality Testing Inventory (BORRTI), Borderline Personality Inventory, and Narcissistic Personality Inventory were used as data collection instruments in the study. The data were analyzed using SPSS 27 program. Pearson Correlation Test and Process Macro 4.2 analysis methods were used. According to the research findings, a negative relationship was found between object relations and relationship satisfaction, marital adjustment, and sexual satisfaction. A positive relationship was identified between object relations and borderline and narcissistic personality traits. Furthermore, negative relationships were found between borderline and narcissistic personality traits and marital adjustment, sexual satisfaction, and relationship satisfaction. Finally, the mediation analyses conducted within the framework of the main purpose of the research, determined that object relations significantly predicted relationship satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and marital adjustment, borderline and narcissistic personality traits partially mediated this relationship. Thus, the proposed model was supported.

A Descriptive Study of Orgasm in Sexual Satisfaction and Intimacy among Females in India

Background and Aim: Orgasm is the peak of sexual arousal or behavior, whenever the peak of satisfaction is attained. Sexual satisfaction refers to the subjective experience of pleasure, contentment, and fulfillment related to one’s sexual activities and relationships and intimacy is the heart and soul of a close relationship. India is a diverse country with unique cultural, social, and economic factors that can impact women’s experiences in terms of intimacy and sexual satisfaction. The aim is to find out the relationship between orgasm in sexual satisfaction and intimacy among females in India. Materials and Methods: A descriptive research design is used for the present study. Through simple random sampling, 128 females who were married, people who can understand English, and who provided informed consent were selected for the study. The study was conducted from April 2022 to March 2023. The 20-item New Sexual Satisfaction Scale and the 36-item personal assessment of intimacy in relationships, and a semi-structured interview schedule were administered. Data were statistically analyzed using the statistical package for social services software, Version 26.0. A simple percentage analysis was used. The correlation was calculated for the variables. The Pearson correlation method was used to find the relationship between variables. A one-way ANOVA was employed to find out the significant mean difference between the demographic variables with a 95% confidence level, and P &lt; 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The result reveals that there is a relationship between intimacy and sexual satisfaction. Researchers found that there is a significant difference between sexual satisfaction and age, educational qualification, family type, place of living, and orgasm. Conclusion: There exists a positive correlation between intimacy and sexual satisfaction. This study helps to create awareness and promote intimacy, orgasm, and sexual satisfaction among Indian females.

The Association Between Hot Flashes, Quality of Life, and Sexual Satisfaction Among Menopausal Women

Aim: This study aims to determine the association between hot flashes, sexual satisfaction, and quality of life among menopausal women. Method: This cross-sectional study consisted of 492 menopausal women aged 45 years and above who lived in a city in the Eastern Anatolian Region of Turkey. The data were collected using the personal data form, the Menopause-Specific Hot Flash Scale, the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire, and the Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women. Results: A strong positive significant association was found between the Menopause-Specific Hot Flash Scale and the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (r = .694, p&amp;lt;0.000). A weak negative significant association was found between the Menopause-Specific Hot Flash Scale and the Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women (r= -.189, p&amp;lt;0.000). A weak negative significant association was found between the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire and Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women (r= -.291, p&amp;lt;0.000). Conclusion: According to the findings, as women are affected by hot flashes, their quality of life is affected similarly. Complaints about hot flashes and quality of life negatively affect sexual satisfaction.

Remote Versus In-Person Group Therapy for Couples Distressed by Low/No Sexual Desire/Frequency or Sexual Desire Discrepancy: A Response to COVID-19

Sexual desire problems are among the most common in sex therapists’ offices and considered among the most difficult to treat. Prior to COVID-19, we had developed an 8-week, 16-h group couples sex therapy approach to help couples distressed by sexual desire discrepancy, by targeting the couple rather than the identified patient with low desire. Because of the pandemic, we tailored our approach to offer it remotely. To our knowledge, this is the first investigation of a group therapy for couples via teletherapy. In total, 141 couples completed the therapy, 75 prior to COVID-19 and 66 during, including 23 sexual, gender and relationship minority couples. Participants completed the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale at four time-points and provided written feedback. Results suggested that this therapy is effective in person and online at post-test (p < .001) and at 6-month follow-up (p < .001). Participants described positive changes in authenticity, vulnerability, trust, playfulness, embodiment and empathic communication, especially during times of conflict. This brief, affordable and accessible intervention can be used to deal with sexual desire problems. This approach enhances sexual fulfillment and enables clients to revision sexuality itself, thereby freeing them to create sex worth wanting and enduring desire.

Partner Satisfaction in Labiaplasty Patients.

Labiaplasty, which has become increasingly popular in recent years, is chosen by women for both cosmetic and functional reasons. It creates significant changes in female sexuality, resulting in high satisfaction rates, but there are limited data on its effects on male sexual response. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of labiaplasty on partners. The partners of 49 patients who underwent labiaplasty between January 2020 and May 2023 were included in the study. Male Sexual Health Questionnaire Ejaculatory Dysfunction (MSHQ-EjD), Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale, and New Sexual Satisfaction Scale questionnaires were administered to the partners preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. There was no significant difference between preoperative and postoperative responses to the MSHQ-EjD questionnaire. The postoperative increase in the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale compared with the preoperative score was statistically significant. Statistically significant positive changes were observed postoperatively in the Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale categories of intercourse frequency, communication, satisfaction, and nature of sexual intercourse. Labiaplasty operation had positive effects on male sexual response but had no effect on ejaculation function and difficulty.

Sexuality in patients treated for borderline personality disorder at the Arrazi psychiatric hospital in Salé

IntroductionBorderline personality disorder is a severe mental disorder characterized by generalized instability of emotional regulation of interpersonal relationships and self-image, and marked impulsivity. Several features of this disorder are likely to be associated with problematic sexual health, such as impulsivity (impulsive sexual behavior), identity disorders (unstable sexual identity) and unstable and intense interpersonal relationships. In addition, childhood sexual abuse and violence are common in people’s histories.ObjectivesAssessing sexuality in patients followed for borderline personality disorder at Arrazi Salé psychiatric hospital.MethodsThis is a descriptive cross-sectional study using a questionnaire including socio-demographic criteria with a questionnaire on sexual behavior in female patients followed for borderline personality disorder at the Arrazi Salé psychiatric hospital. Inclusion criteria: women over 18 years of age diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Exclusion criteria: psychosis, intellectual disability.ResultsWe collected 45 patients with borderline personality disorder. The average age was 22, 80% were single, 58% unemployed, 46% had dropped out of high school. The majority of participants were using psychoactive substances. 25% had attempted suicide. 83% were victims of childhood sexual abuse. The majority were significantly more likely to engage in sexual activity at a younger age than their peers. Over 60% had never used contraception 10% had their first pregnancy at a younger age, with termination. 15% have had genital infections. 53% were attracted to both sexes, and over 66% had more than one sexual partner. Over 73% did not experience sexual satisfaction (sexual satisfaction scale less than 10).ConclusionsThe results indicate that sexuality in patients with borderline personality disorder is present early in the course of the disorder, often at a young age, with significant physical, mental and social consequences. Primary care mental health, sexual health and sexual assault services need to be attentive to the clinical diagnosis of this personality disorder, as the nature of the disorder represents both a risk factor and a health threat.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared

Examining Sexual Well-being across the Lifespan: Assessing the Relationship between Sexual Satisfaction and Adjustment to Aging

IntroductionSexual satisfaction is relevant to aging well, throughout the lifespan.ObjectivesThis study aims to compare the perspectives of sexual satisfaction and adjustment to aging in three age cohorts, across the life span; and to analyze whether sexual satisfaction influences the perceptions of AtA.MethodsThis cross-sectional study comprised participants from three different age cohorts (18-44; 45-64; and 65+ years). Four measures were used to meet the defined objectives: (a) Adjustment to Aging Scale (ATAS); (b) New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NISS-S); and (c) sociodemographic, health and lifestyle questionnaire. Data were subject to One-way ANOVAs and hierarchical regression analyses.ResultsSocial support emerged as the most relevant dimension in the multifactorial nature of AtA. Generational differences were found in sense of purpose and ambitions [F (2, 616) = 14.203, p = .000], social support [F (2, 616) = 10.65, p = .000] and body and health [F (2, 616) = 8.73, p = .000]. Participants aged 65 and older showed significantly lower levels of sense of purpose and ambition, body and health, and social support. Younger participants showed the highest score for body and health. Age-related decreases in sexual satisfaction were also found, as younger participants showed statistically higher levels of sexual satisfaction, followed by middle-aged and older participants. Sexual satisfaction predicts all the dimensions of AtA, exception made for aging in place and stability, where age is the main predictor. Ego-centered sexual satisfaction positively predicted sense of purpose and ambitions (β = .212, p &lt; .05) and social support (β = .311, p &lt; .001); while partner/sexual activity centered sexual satisfaction was a positive predictor of zest and spirituality (β = .255, p &lt; .01), body and health (β = .239, p &lt; .001), and social support (β = .168, p &lt; .05).ConclusionsSexual satisfaction decreases with age and is positively related to all dimensions of AtA, hence gerontological interventions and program policies with older people would strongly benefit of including sexual satisfaction as a relevant variable for aging well.Keywords: sexual well-being; sexual satisfaction; adjustment to aging; generational groups; lifespan.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared

Love addiction and sexual satisfaction within the attachment perspective: an empirical contribution

ABSTRACT This study aims to test the predictive capacity of the attachment theory in delineating the line between normal and pathological love as well as testing the moderating role of gender in the link between insecure attachment and sexual satisfaction. We administered to a sample of 307 adults the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ), the Love Addiction Inventory (LAI), the Passionate Love Scale (PLS), and the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS). We found that some subscales of the ASQ predict LAI scores and that the relationship between passionate love and love addiction was positively moderated by insecure styles of attachment (i.e. discomfort for closeness, preoccupation for relationships, and need for approval). In addition, insecure attachment was negatively related to sexual satisfaction. However, moderation analyses evidenced that the relationship between attachment avoidance and low sexual satisfaction was positive only among males. The study confirmed the utility of the attachment perspective in the understanding of the processes underlying romantic relationships. Results also suggest that the quality of attachment style may be a key factor in differentiating normal from pathological love and that the impact of avoidant attachment style on sexual satisfaction may follow different pathways according to gender.
