(PM-01) SEXUAL SATISFACTION POST PENILE PROSTHESIS IMPLANTATION

Abstract Introduction Erectile dysfunction is defined as the persistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for a satisfactory sexual relationship. In some cases, it is refractory to pharmacological treatments, or these treatments are contraindicated, leading to the consideration of using a penile prosthesis as a definitive treatment. While reported patient and partner satisfaction rates are high (82 – 97%), dissatisfaction has been found to be attributed to various reasons, including prosthesis dysfunction and/or unmet patient expectations regarding the quality of the erection and sexual satisfaction. Methods An analytical observational bidirectional cohort study approved by the institutional ethics committee was conducted. Subsequently, patients who underwent penile prosthesis implantation between January 2017 and June 2021 at a single center were identified. Results A total of 47 cases were analyzed, with an average age of 64 years. Overall satisfaction with the penile prosthesis implantation was 100%. 94.1% felt that their treatment expectations were met, 88.2% reported continuing to use this method, and 100% were satisfied with the duration of the erection. Conclusions A 100% overall global satisfaction rate was observed. High rates of sexual satisfaction in patients were evident, reaffirming the penile prosthesis as a safe procedure that should be offered as a third-line treatment or when a permanent solution is desired. (113) Investigating the Prevalence of Erectile Dysfunction in Patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver and Its Relationship with the Severity of Fatty Liver

Abstract Introduction Today, the relationship between erectile dysfunction in men and the pathogenesis process in the field of metabolic syndrome is of interest. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is one of the diseases related to metabolic syndrome, which has a high prevalence. This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in men with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and investigating the relationship between its severity and the grading of liver complications. Objective In this research, the frequency of erectile dysfunction and decreased libido and sexual satisfaction in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease have been investigated and compared with the control group. Also, the relationship between the severity of sexual dysfunction and fatty liver grading has been investigated. Methods In this study, 1200 patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease were randomly selected and participated in this study between 2019 and 2022. In order to investigate sexual disorders, the standard male sexual performance questionnaire was used along with the demographic questionnaire. Results The results of this study showed that the indicators of male sexual dysfunction in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver have a high prevalence (44.5%). Also, the severity of erectile dysfunction has a significant relationship with the severity of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (pv=0.002). Conclusions A holistic view of the health category requires that in the treatment of medical disorders, the effective factors and consequences of the disorder should be considered. Paying attention to the diagnosis and treatment of sexual disorders in the treatment process will be one of the most important aspects of the patient's health; Because erectile dysfunction in men, apart from the effect on sexual relations, will have destructive consequences on their psychological indicators and quality of life. Urologists and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer Patients: A Survey-based Study of the Practice Patterns, Attitudes, and Knowledge Base of Urologists Toward Their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer Patients

To assess urologists' attitudes toward treating LGBT patients and counseling practices during diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. A 35-question survey was sent to program directors of U.S. urology residency programs. 154 responses met inclusion criteria. Respondents were primarily male, heterosexual, in academia, representing a range of ages and geography. 54.2% of respondents don't assume patients are heterosexual. While 88% of providers feel comfortable discussing sexual health with LGBTQ patients, 42.9% disagree that knowing sexual orientation is necessary to providing optimal care. 57.8% of respondents don't provide intake forms to indicate sexual orientation and 60.4% don't inquire about sexual orientation during history-taking. A majority (32.7%) reported 1-5 hours of LGBTQ health training. 74.3% believe more training is needed. 74.5% agreed to being listed as an LGBTQ-Friendly Provider currently, 65.8% felt they needed additional training. 63.6% agreed the prostate is a source of sexual pleasure. 55.9% believed it important to assess sexual satisfaction in patients who engage in receptive anal intercourse after prostate cancer treatment. Responses were mixed regarding timing of resuming receptive anal intercourse after treatment and whether patients are counseled to refrain from anal stimulation before PSA testing. Answers to knowledge questions regarding anal cancer and communication were primarily correct; answers to questions regarding anejaculation and differences in health concerns were mixed. Ongoing education is necessary on specific differences between heterosexual and LGBTQ patient concerns and how to apply this knowledge in order to address the needs of a rapidly aging LGBTQ population.

(415) Comparison of Satisfaction With Penile Prosthesis Implantation in Patients With Prostate Cancer Radiation Therapy versus Radical Prostatectomy or Radical Cystoprostatectomy

Abstract Introduction Penile Prosthesis Surgery (PPS) is a commonly used treatment for Erectile Dysfunction (ED), either as first-line therapy or in cases refractory to other treatment options. In patients with urologic malignancies, such as prostate or bladder cancer, surgical interventions like radical prostatectomy (RP) and radical cystoprostatectomy (RCP) as well as alternative treatments such as radiation therapy can all induce ED. PPS as a treatment for ED has high satisfaction rates in the general population. There is limited data available on sexual satisfaction in patients with prosthesis implantation for ED following RP/RCP versus ED following radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Objective The primary objective for our study was to determine if there is a significant difference in device and sexual satisfaction rates between patients receiving PPS for ED post-RP/RCP versus post-prostate cancer radiation therapy quantified via a validated questionnaire. Methods A retrospective chart review from our institutional database was conducted to identify 970 patients who underwent PPS at our institution from 2011 to 2021. Only patients that had Erectile Dysfunction Inventory of Treatment Satisfaction (EDITS) questionnaire data at least 6 months from implant operative date available were included. Eligible patients were screened and placed in one of two groups depending on etiology of ED- following RP/RCP or following prostate cancer radiation therapy. To prevent crossover confounding; patients with history of pelvic radiation were excluded from the RP/RCP group and patients with history of RP/RCP were excluded from the radiation group. Data was obtained from 73 patients in the RP/RCP group (RP=66, RCP=7) and 32 patients in the radiation therapy group (Extended Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT) = 26, Brachytherapy=6). Demographics, surgical information, etiology of ED, and penile doppler results were recorded for both groups. EDITS questionnaire responses were compared between the two groups as a measurement of device and sexual satisfaction. Additional subgroup analysis was conducted between RP and RCP patients. P<0.05 was statistically significant. Results There was a significant difference in mean survey responses for all 11 questions in the EDITS questionnaire between the RP/RCP group and the radiation group. Specifically, the RP/RCP group had a significantly higher mean score in questions surveying overall satisfaction (p=0.01), level to which device has met their expectations (p=0.03), as well as confidence in engaging in sexual activity with their partner (p<0.001). Additional survey questions administered also found RP/RCP patients reported significantly higher rate of satisfaction with size of penis post-operatively versus the radiation group (p=0.01). Subgroup analysis found no difference in satisfaction (p=0.16), device expectations (p=0.37), or confidence in engaging in sexual activity (p=0.82) between the RP and RCP groups. Conclusions These preliminary findings, while requiring large-scale follow up, suggest that there is greater sexual satisfaction and penile prosthesis device satisfaction in patients undergoing IPP placement following RP/RCP versus radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Use of validated questionnaires should continue to be utilized in quantifying device and sexual satisfaction following penile prosthesis placement. (056) Dyadic Approaches in Oncosexology: Understanding the Relationship between Couples’ Coping and Sexual Satisfaction among Young Adult Breast Cancer Patients and Their Partners

Abstract Introduction Recent evidence supports bio-psycho-social and non-linear models of sexual functioning. These models expand current understanding of cancer-related sexual health problems to include interpersonal factors such as relationship discord, fear of intimacy, and lack of communication (Bober & Varela, 2012). Sexual satisfaction, defined as “an affective response arising from one’s subjective evaluation of the positive and negative dimensions associated with one’s sexual relationship” (Lawrence & Byers, 1995; p. 268), is regarded as an important metric of sexual health and wellbeing. However, most studies have included only one member of the couple, and little is known about how each partner’s coping may mutually contribute to sexual satisfaction. We examined the reciprocal influence of couples’ coping behaviors on the individual’s and the partner’s sexual satisfaction. Objective The present work describes the relationship between couples’ coping behaviors and satisfaction with sexual relationship among young adult breast cancer patients and partners. Methods A sample of 40 romantic couples receiving care at an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center completed cross-sectional online surveys. Validated questionnaires of satisfaction with sexual relationship (GMSEX), sexual function (IIEF, FSFI), and couple coping [Dyadic Coping Inventory, (DCI)] were administered. Couple coping includes both partners’ strategies implemented to manage their own and their partners’ distress, as well as shared coping behaviors. Items are organized in multiple subscales: stress communication, supportive, delegate, negative, and common dyadic coping. Stress communication refers to the strategies implemented by the partners to communicate to each other that they are stressed. Supportive dyadic coping occurs when one partner implements problem- and/or emotion-focused coping strategies to support the other person. Delegated dyadic coping occurs when one partner takes over responsibilities to reduce their partner’s stress. Negative dyadic coping includes behaviors that are hostile, ambivalent, and superficial. Common dyadic coping indicates coordinated responses between partners. Descriptive statistics and paired sample t-tests were used to assess differences between partners’ measures. In addition, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to estimate measurement models using Mplus8, while the pooled regression approach was utilized to estimate the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM). Results In the present sample, supportive and delegated dyadic coping behaviors contributed to greater sexual satisfaction for both partners, whereas only an actor effect was detected for stress communication, negative, and common dyadic coping. Significant differences were identified between partners, with breast cancer patients reporting higher stress communication (p<.05), partner-reported supportive (p<.05) and delegated coping behaviors (p<.05). Male partners rated higher patients’ engagement in stress communication behaviors (p<.05). In addition, more than one-half of patients screened positive for clinically significant sexual dysfunction (60.6%), compared to 20% of their partners. Conclusions These results provide evidence about the importance of dyadic approaches to investigating sexual satisfaction and functioning post-cancer treatment. Stress communication exerted an individual, rather than mutual, influence on sexual satisfaction of patients and partners. Delegated and supportive dyadic coping styles resulted in reciprocal influence and were associated with the higher sexual satisfaction among dyad members. (110) Characterizing Sexuality and Assessing Predictors of Sexual Satisfaction in Patients with Multiple Myeloma

Abstract Introduction There is a paucity of literature documenting cancer-related sexual concerns among patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Despite profound sexual changes being reported in other types of hematological cancer (i.e., lymphoma, leukemia), all types of hematological cancer patients tend to be grouped together, potentially overlooking the unique concerns of patients with MM. Objective This study is the first to characterize sexuality uniquely in the MM population, and to examine predictors of sexual satisfaction for MM, comparatively with participants with other hematological cancer types. Methods We performed a mixed modality self-report survey of patients with hematological cancer, recruiting both in-person and online. Men and women with MM (N=89) and other hematological cancers (N=84) participated in our survey. The survey included demographics and health information, as well as several quantitative sexuality measures including sexual distress, sexual function, sexual flexibility, sexual interest, sexual communication, and sexual satisfaction. Results MM survivors exhibited poor sexual function but low sexual distress, and endorsed mid-high scores on measures of sexual interest, sexual flexibility, sexual communication, and sexual satisfaction. Results indicate that for MM and other hematological cancer survivors, lower sexual distress and higher sexual communication were associated with higher sexual satisfaction (b = .428, p < .001; b = -.299, p = .001) while sexual flexibility, sexual interest, and sexual function did not explain significant variance in sexual satisfaction. Thematic analysis on open-ended questions indicates that potentially unique to MM, consequences of bone disease (i.e., bone pain, bone fracture, and spinal cord compression) affected sexual expression and resulted in reduced mobility impacting sexual activity, as well as painful sexual experiences, or anxiety relating to sex. Conclusions This study supported the need for sexual health interventions for those diagnosed with MM. Further, it demonstrated that sexual interventions that are used for other hematological cancer patients may be similarly effective for those with MM. Special consideration regarding the impact of bone disease on sexual expression in MM patients should be taken. Disclosure No

How does multiple sclerosis affect sexual satisfaction in patients' spouses?

Sexual dysfunction (SD) is a common complaint among multiple sclerosis (MS) patients with a significant impact on the quality of life (QoL) of afflicted couples. The purpose of this study was to determine sexual satisfaction (SS) in the spouses of MS patients and its impact on the QoL. A total of 214 spouses of MS patients were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. They completed the Larson Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire and SF-8 Health Survey. The mean ± SD age of the spouses was 39.8 ± 9.7 years, and the duration of MS was 5 years or less in most of their partners. The mean ± SD score of QoL was 71.0 ± 20.3 (out of 100), and the mean SS score was 89.2 ± 18.6 (out of 125), showing moderate satisfaction. The highest score was among male spouses younger than 40 years old. The SS scores were also lower among female spouses. In the final model, it was found that SD, psychiatric symptoms, cognitive impairment, and the level of disability of patients were independent explanatory factors for the SS of their spouses. The findings supported the role of SS in the QoL of spouses of MS patients. Therefore, the attention of physicians to this hidden aspect of the life of MS patients is crucial.

Physicians >65 years old are more likely to believe that knowing sexual orientation is necessary to provide the best care (p=0.034) but younger and academic physicians are more likely to elicit this during history taking (p=0.037, p=0.007) and via intake forms (p=0.009, p=0.002). A majority (32.7%) report 1-5 hours of LGBTQ health training. 74.3% believe more training is needed. 74.5% would agree to being listed as an LGBTQ-Friendly Provider currently, 65.8% would want additional training. Female (p=0.01) and younger providers (p=0.038) are more likely to request more training. Younger providers believe more strongly in additional educational events (p=0.009). Investigating the Relationship between Perceived Social Support and Sexual Satisfaction in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

Background and Objective: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has many complications and consequences, one of which is the reduction of sexual satisfaction. Having the support of people around can be useful for these patients. The present study aimed to determine the relationship between perceived social support and sexual satisfaction in patients with MS in Isfahan. Materials and Methods: The present study was a descriptive-analytical study. The research community were patients with MS in Isfahan in the first half of 2021. A total of 240 eligible patients were included in the study through random sampling. To collect data, patients' demographic form, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (Zimet et al., 1988), and Larson sexual satisfaction questionnaire were used. Data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 16) using descriptive and inferential statistical tests. Results: The level of Perceived social support (27.35±9.06) and sexual satisfaction (88.36±13.12) was moderate. The relationship between perceived social support and patients 'sexual satisfaction (r = 0.510, P<0.001) was direct and significant, and patients' sexual satisfaction elevated with an increase in perceived social support. Conclusion: Given the importance of perceived social support in patients with MS and its relationship with sexual satisfaction, the promotion of social support for these people can be one of the effective suggestions for promoting their sexual satisfaction.

Additional survey questions administered also found RP patients reported significantly higher rate of satisfaction with size of penis post-operatively versus the radiation group. Outcomes of Intraplaque Verapamil Injection for Treatment of Peyronie’s Disease

Objective: To determine the outcomes of intraplaque verapamil injection for treatment of Peyronie's disease. Aim:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the outcomes & efficacy of intraplaque verapamil injection in Peyronie’s disease management. Methods: The quasi experimental study was conducted from July 2018 to July 2019 on a group of 26 subjects suffering from Peyronie's disease. After detailed history, complete physical and genital examination, the diagnosis was confirmed. After informed consent, questionnaires regarding pain and sexual satisfaction of patients were filled. All patients received verapamil injections on weekly basis for a period of 10 weeks. After that, all necessary variables were recorded and data analyzed using SPSS version 16. Results: Most of the patients in our study were in the age group of 30-65 years. 26.9 % patients were in the range of 51-55 years old. 53.8% patients got no effect of intralesional injection of verapamil on pain while pain relieved in 38.5% of patients & 7.7% patients experienced an increased in pain intensity after 10 weeks of intralesional injection of verapamil. 61.5%of patients satisfied with their sexual life after 10 week of injections & 30.8% of patients remained unsatisfied with their sexual life while in 7.7%of patients symptoms aggravated. 53.8% of patients experienced no change in size of lesion and curvature of penis, while 30.8% got less than 50% reduction in size of lesion while 15.4% of patients got more than 50% reduction in size after 10 weeks. Practical implication: We can easily find the efficacy of Verapamil injection for management of Peyronie’s disease. Conclusion: This study concluded the efficacy of Verapamil injection for management of Peyronie’s disease disease causes significant decrease in size of lesion and improvement in sexual activity.  Results: Most of the patients in our study were in the age group of 30-65 years. 26.9 % patients were in the range of 51-55 years old. 53.8% patients got no effect of intralesional injection of verapamil on pain while pain relieved in 38.5% of patients  & 7.7% patients experienced an increased in pain intensity after 10 weeks of intralesional injection of verapamil. 61.5%of patients satisfied with their sexual life after 10 week of injections & 30.8% of patients remained unsatisfied with their sexual life while in 7.7%of patients symptoms aggravated. 53.8% of patients experienced no change in size of lesion and curvature of penis, while 30.8% got less than 50% reduction in size of lesion while 15.4% of patients got more than 50% reduction in size after 10 weeks.
 Conclusion: This study concluded the efficacy of Verapamil injection for management of Peyronie’s disease.

Outcomes of Intraplaque Verapamil Injection for Treatment of Peyronie’s Disease

Objective: To determine the outcomes of intraplaque verapamil injection for treatment of Peyronie’s disease. Aim: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the outcomes & efficacy of intraplaque verapamil injection in Peyronie’s disease management. Methods: The quasi experimental study was conducted from July 2018 to July 2019 on a group of 26 subjects suffering from Peyronie’s disease. After detailed history, complete physical and genital examination, the diagnosis was confirmed. After informed consent, questionnaires regarding pain and sexual satisfaction of patients were filled. All patients received verapamil injections on weekly basis for a period of 10 weeks. After that, all necessary variables were recorded and data analyzed using SPSS version 16. Sexual dysfunction is one of the complications of infertility treatment and is often overlooked in the care of women with infertility

Aim: Sexual dysfunction is one of the complications of infertility treatment and is often overlooked in the care of women with infertility. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of self-centered compassion therapy on depression, anxiety and sexual satisfaction in patients. The woman was infertile. Method: This study was a clinical trial study. Fifty-two women with infertility who had sexual dysfunction and referred to the infertility ward of Imam Hossein Hospital in Tehran province from June to September 1400 were selected by purposive sampling. Then they were randomly assigned to the experimental group (under self-centered compassion therapy) (n = 26) and the control group (n = 26). Data collection tools Standard Questionnaire of Sexual Issues (MSQ) Snell and Fisher Walters (1993) were collected in three baseline stages, after intervention and quarterly follow-up. Data analysis was performed using repeated measures multivariate repeated measures analysis of variance. Results: The results showed that in the group under self-centered compassion therapy, the mean score of sexual anxiety and depression as well as sexual satisfaction in the experimental group decreased and increased significantly compared to the control group (P <0.001). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that self-centered compassion therapy can be effective in improving sexual anxiety and depression as well as sexual satisfaction in women with infertility.

A study of depression, partnership and sexual satisfaction in patients with post-traumatic olfactory disorders

Post-traumatic olfactory dysfunction (PTOD) is associated with a significant decrease in quality of life. The present study aimed to explore whether PTOD is associated with depression and changes in sexuality. There were two groups in this case–control study. The patient group consisted of patients with PTOD (n = 55), and the control group comprised healthy individuals without the olfactory disorder (n = 115). Olfactory function, depression, partnership, and sexual satisfaction were assessed using the Iranian version of the Sniffin’ Sticks test (Ir-SST), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Enrich Couple Scale (ECS) and Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women (SSSW). The BDI scores were higher in the patient group than in the control group (p < 0.001). The SSSW score was lower in the patient group than in controls (p < 0.01), although the ECS score was not significantly different between patients and controls. Also, there was no significant difference in the severity of trauma between marital satisfaction and sexual satisfaction. However, the analysis showed a statistically significant difference in depression scores in connection with the head trauma severity. In the PTOD group, depression was increased and sexual satisfaction declined. Understanding the association of olfactory dysfunction with depression and sexuality allows patients and doctors to deal with less notable consequences of this disorder.

Assessment of sexual and physical activity of patients after implantation of left ventricular assist device (LVAD)

Abstract Background Patients with cardiovascular diseases also suffer from problems related to the sexual sphere, among others: reduction or loss of libido, avoiding sexual activity, impotence. They may result from depressive disorders and the fear of the appearance of health and life-threatening symptoms during sexual intercourse (dyspnea, angina, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, sudden death). The aim of the study was to evaluate sexual and physical activity in patients after implantation of left ventricular assist device (LVAD). Methodology The study included 50 men aged 18–66, average 55 years, after LVAD implantation. Finally 20 patients did not complete the program and were excluded from the analysis. The subjects were assessed by a sexologist in terms of the quality of sexual life and erectile dysfunction. Sexological counselling and education (positions during intercourse, safety recommendations) and physical activity (training forms, frequency and duration of training) were conducted, 13 patients were qualified for pharmacological treatment of erectile dysfunction. The level of physical activity (according to International Physical Activity Questionnaire, IPAQ) and sexual satisfaction (questionnaire) as well as quality of sexual life (Mell-Krat Scale) were assessed before LVAD implantation and after 6 months. Additionally, exercise tolerance was evaluated with 6 minute walk test (6-MWT). The tests were repeated after 6 months. Results After the implementation of sexual and physical activity education, a significant improvement was observed in the results of the parameters tested: 6-MWT [m]: 355.5 (131.1) vs. 465.5 (93.8), p&amp;lt;0.001, IPAQ [met / min / week]: 1.411.5 (513.4, 2.465.2) vs. 3.870.0 (983.0, 5.274.0), p&amp;lt;0.002, sexual satisfaction: 26.5 (24.2, 28.0) vs. 28.5 (27.2, 29.0), p&amp;lt;0.01. The quality of sex life in the whole group significantly decreased after LVAD implantation compared to the period before onset of the disease, Mell-Krat Scale score: 50.0 (46.0, 51.8) vs. 26.0 (9.2, 48.5), p&amp;lt;0.001. In patients who received pharmacological treatment, the quality of sexual life assessed by the Mell-Krat Scale improved significantly: before treatment 10.0 (8.0, 13.0) vs. 34.0 (6.0, 37.0) after treatment, p&amp;lt;0.006, but did not return to pre-onset levels. A significant positive correlation was observed between the assessment of sexual satisfaction and the results of 6-MWT and IPAQ score. Conclusions Sexual health education significantly improves sexual satisfaction in patients following LVAD implantation. Increasing exercise tolerance and the level of daily activity has a positive effect on the subjective assessment of sexual satisfaction. However, the quality of sexual life significantly decreases after LVAD implantation and even after pharmacological treatment it does not return to the level from before the onset of the disease. Sexual satisfaction and subjective well-being after heart transplantation

Abstract Introduction Heart transplantation is still the most dominant method used to achieve successful results in treating end-stage heart failure patients. Besides using new medicines, technologies and monitoring of patients" physical condition, overall care should also include monitoring patients’ well–being, which is not often done. The purpose of this study was to undertake a sexual satisfaction and subjective well-being after heart transplantation. Methods The study was conducted on a random sample of 30 patients who had heart transplantation. The data were collected prospectively during a visit to the clinic. Sexual satisfaction was measured by short form of the New Scale of Sexual Satisfaction. The questionnaire consists of twelve items in which patients evaluate their satisfaction with sexual domains. Subjective well-being was measured by the Personal Wellbeing Index. The questionnaire consists of seven items in which patients evaluate their satisfaction with some domains of life. All reported values have been converted onto a standard 0-100 range. The values were given as mean (M) and standard deviation (SD). The differences were tested by the t-test. The result of the questionnaire was determined by correlation analysis and multiple regression. Results The mean age of participants was 59.5 ± 7.3, most of them were male (80%) and married (76%). The mean score on the sexual satisfaction scale was 30.7 ± 9.9. Compared to the results of the general population 46,9 ± 8,5 result are significantly unfavorable (p&amp;lt;.001). The overall subjective well-being was 75.0 ± 13.2 within the normative range. Compared to women, men were significantly more satisfied with sex life, 33.40 ±8.33 vs 20.20 ±9.41 (p=.005), significantly higher well-being 77.3 ± 13.8; vs 65.7 ± 2.4 (p=.002). Patients who were married had significantly greater satisfaction with sex lives 33,1 ± 9,1 than singles 23,1 ± 9,2 (p=.029), whereas this difference was not observed with respect to well-being 75,4 ± 12,4 vs 73,5 ± 16,67 (p=.764). Positive and significant correlations were found between sexual satisfaction and subjective well-being (.60; p=.002) as well as negative, between sexual satisfaction and female gender (-.54; p=.005). Results of multiple regression of the model that included the predictors: subjective well-being, gender and marital status has shown predictive success of the model explains about 56% of sexual satisfaction variance. Sexual satisfaction was a significant predictor in explaining 33% of variance in subjective well-being. Conclusion(s) Subjective well-being is satisfactory after successful heart transplantation, but sexual satisfaction is poorly. It takes a certain time for some patients to adapt to new life situations but gender and marital status play an important role. Further studies which will include more patients, especially women and young, should be made to evaluate variables associated with sexual satisfaction of patients after heart transplantation.

Effect of Cardiac Rehabilitation on Sexual Satisfaction of Patients After Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery

Background: Providing sexual counseling in cardiac rehabilitation program can improve patients’ sexual satisfaction and performance after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery. Objective This study aims to determine the effect of cardiac rehabilitation on sexual satisfaction of patients after CABG surgery. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 108 patients with CABG surgery referred to cardiac rehabilitation centers in Rasht and Tehran, Iran in 2017-2018. A demographic form and Larsson’s sexual satisfaction questionnaire were used for data collection before and after 10 sessions of cardiac rehabilitation program. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS v. 18 software using paired t-test, Wilcoxon test, and ANCOVA considering a significance level at P&lt;0.05. Results: The mean age of participants was 58.60±6.37 years. Their sexual satisfaction score significantly increased after the intervention and there was a statistically significant difference in sexual satisfaction before and after the intervention (P&lt;0.001). The pre-test and post-test sexual satisfaction scores had no significant relationship with age, gender, years of marriage, duration of heart disease, comorbidities, occupational status, educational level, and economic status (P&gt;0.05). Conclusion: It is necessary to pay attention to the sexual satisfaction of patients after CABG surgery to improve their sexual function and quality of life by creating an opportunity for them to participate in postoperative cardiac rehabilitation programs.
