Exploring the Use of Customized Links to Improve Electronic Engagement With Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Among Young African American Male Individuals: Web-Based Survey Study.

Research has shown that heterosexual African American male individuals aged 18-24 years have a higher prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and are more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior. There is a critical need to promote sexual reproductive health (SRH) services among this population, especially in urban settings. Young African American male individuals use social media platforms to access health information, showcasing the potential of social media and web-based links as tools to leverage electronic engagement with this population to promote SRH care. This study aims to explore electronic engagement with young African American male individuals in discussions about SRH care. This paper focuses on the recruitment and social media marketing methods used to recruit young, heterosexual African American male individuals aged 18-24 years for the Stay Safe Project, a larger study that aims to promote SRH services among this population in Detroit, Michigan. We investigate the use of TinyURL, a URL shortener and customized tool, and culturally informed social media marketing strategies to promote electronic engagement within this population. Participants were recruited between December 2021 and February 2022 through various modes, including email listserves, Mailchimp, the UMHealthResearch website, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram. Images and vector graphics of African American male individuals were used to create social media advertisements that directed participants to click on a TinyURL that led to a recruitment survey for the study. TinyURL metrics were used to monitor demographic and user data, analyzing the top countries, browsers, operating systems, and devices of individuals who engaged with the customized TinyURL links and the total human and unique clicks from various social media platforms. Mailchimp was the most successful platform for electronic engagement with human and unique clicks on the custom TinyURL link, followed by Instagram and Facebook. In contrast, X, traditional email, and research recruiting websites had the least engagement among our population. Success was determined based on the type of user and follower for each platform, whether gained in the community through sign-ups or promoted at peak user time and embedded and spotlighted on nontraditional media (eg, social media sites, blogs, and podcasts) for the user. Low engagement (eg, traditional email) from the target population, limited visibility, and fewer followers contributed to decreased engagement. This study provides insight into leveraging customized, shortened URLs, TinyURL metrics, and social media platforms to improve electronic engagement with young African American male individuals seeking information and resources about SRH care. The results of this study have been used to develop a pilot intervention for this population that will contribute to strategies for encouraging sexual well-being, clinic use, and appropriate linkage to SRH care services among young, heterosexual African American male individuals.

High uptake of menstrual health information, products and analgesics within an integrated sexual reproductive health service for young people in Zimbabwe

BackgroundDespite being integral to women’s well-being, achieving good menstrual health (MH) remains a challenge. This study examined MH services uptake (including information, analgesics, and a choice of MH products - the menstrual cup and reusable pads) and sustained use of MH products within an integrated sexual and reproductive health intervention for young people in Zimbabwe.MethodsThis mixed-methods study was nested within a cluster randomised trial of integrated sexual and reproductive health services (CHIEDZA) for youth in three provinces (Harare, Mashonaland East, and Bulawayo). The study collected qualitative and quantitative data from 27,725 female clients aged 16–24 years, who accessed CHIEDZA from April 2019 – March 2022. Using a biometric (fingerprint recognition) identification system, known as SIMPRINTS, uptake of MH information, products, and analgesics and other services was tracked for each client. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were used to investigate MH service uptake and product choice and use over time, and the factors associated with these outcomes. Thematic analysis of focus group discussions and interviews were used to further explore providers’ and participants’ experiences of the MH service and CHIEDZA intervention.ResultsOverall, 36,991 clients accessed CHIEDZA of whom 27,725 (75%) were female. Almost all (n = 26,448; 95.4%) took up the MH service at least once: 25433 took up an MH product with the majority (23,346; 92.8%) choosing reusable pads. The uptake of cups varied across province with Bulawayo province having the highest uptake (13.4%). Clients aged 20–24 years old were more likely to choose cups than reusable pads compared with those aged 16–19 years (9.4% vs 6.0%; p < 0.001). Over the implementation period, 300/1819 (16.5%) of clients swapped from the menstrual cup to reusable pads and 83/23346 (0.4%) swapped from reusable pads to the menstrual cup. Provision of the MH service encouraged uptake of other important SRH services. Qualitative findings highlighted the provision of free integrated SRH and MH services that included a choice of MH products and analgesics in a youth-friendly environment were key to high uptake and overall female engagement with SRH services.ConclusionsHigh uptake demonstrates how the MH service provided much needed access to MH products and information. Integration of MH within an SRH intervention proved central to young women accessing other SRH services.

Implementing Quality Improvement Initiatives to Improve the Use of Adolescent- and Youth-Friendly Health Services in Zou, Benin.

In Benin, the unmet need for family planning services is especially high for adolescent girls and youth aged 15-24 years. The Challenge Initiative (TCI) supported the health system to assess and improve the quality of adolescent and youth sexual reproductive health services and enhance contraceptive uptake in 65 service delivery points (SDPs) of the Zou department. Between June 2019 and March 2021, TCI supported the health districts in Zou to train an assessment team to complete 3 cycles of quality assessments (QAs) using a QA checklist adapted to the local context. Based on assessment scores, the SDPs were categorized into poor, moderate, or good to excellent quality. The SDP managers developed remedial action plans after each cycle and for each SDP and followed up with supportive supervision. The first QA cycle showed that 52% of assessed SDPs achieved a good to excellent classification; by the second QA cycle, this reached 74%. However, the quality of adolescent- and youth-friendly health services regressed during the third QA cycle (during COVID-19 pandemic disruptions), when only 40% of SDPs achieved the good to excellent category. Between the first and second QA cycles, contraceptive uptake for adolescents and youth improved in the SDPs that had good or excellent quality of services, compared to the ones that were of lower quality (established significance level of 5% with a P value of .031). Further assessments could deepen our understanding of the internal and external factors that can affect service quality. The findings reinforce the importance of investing in quality improvement strategies to maximize the use of sexual and reproductive health services among adolescents and youth. They also underscore the need for a contextual and nuanced approach to ensure enduring results.

Exploring challenges and improvement strategies of adolescent-friendly health services in the northwest region of Namibia: A qualitative descriptive study.

Despite global agreements on adolescents' sexual and reproductive health and rights, access to and the utilisation of these services by the adolescents remain underutilised in low and middle-income countries. The aim of the study was to explore challenges and improvement strategies of adolescent-friendly health services in the northwest of Namibia. This study employed a qualitative approach utilising an explorative strategy. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect the data. Fifteen nurses were selected using a convenience sampling technique. The interviews were audio recorded, transcribed verbatim and the data were analysed using thematic analysis. The data analysis led to the emergence of the following three themes: Challenges affecting the delivery of Adolescent Friendly Health Services, Challenges affecting participation of adolescent to AFHS and strategies to improve the provision of adolescent-friendly health services. Findings from this study revealed several barriers reportedly faced by adolescents in accessing AFHS as including a lack of comprehensive sexual reproductive health (SRH) services in many healthcare facilities, a lack of trained staff, unfavourable environments for adolescents, a lack of information about the services provided, and recruitment of providers who are not friendly to young people and adolescents. This study findings may lead to an improvement in the provision of such services in healthcare settings. The study can lead to an improvement in the provision of adolescent-friendly services in health care settings. It can help the Ministry of Health and Social Services, along with its agencies, to formulate strategies that can be used to mitigate the challenges d in the provision of adolescent-friendly services.

Quality Health Services for Adolescents: Assessing Awareness and Use of Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health Services in Keta, Ghana

ABSTRACT Introduction Although adolescents have access to sexual and reproductive health services, they encounter a variety of obstacles, including limited access to safe abortion and contraceptives, early pregnancy and parenthood, and a high occurrence of sexually transmitted infections. This research assessed the awareness and use of adolescent sexual reproductive health services in the Keta Sub-district of Ghana. Methods A cross-sectional study using a quantitative method of analysis and the administration of a structured questionnaire to 350 adolescents between the ages of 14 and 19 in the Keta Sub-district was conducted. Results Of the 10 services covering adolescent sexual and reproductive health, 75% of participants were aware only of comprehensive sex education. Only 27% were aware of sexually transmitted infection prevention and care services. Awareness was 13% or lower for the remaining eight services. Only 24% had used an adolescent sexual reproductive health service. Conclusion Awareness of adolescent sexual reproductive health services and their use is low in the Keta Sub-district. To improve access to sexual and reproductive health information, sub-district health services should create school-based satellite clinics for adolescents. Adolescents’ ambassadors should be created to educate peers on adolescent issues, especially sexual and reproductive health.

Female adolescent sexual reproductive health service utilization concerns: A qualitative enquiry in the Tema metropolis of Ghana.

Evidence globally indicates that female adolescents face numerous sexual and reproductive health (SRH) risks. Utilization of sexual reproductive health services among adolescents is of global health importance and plays a crucial role in adolescent sexual reproductive health outcomes and their quality of life. The current study explored sexual reproductive health service utilization concerns among female adolescents in the Tema Metropolis in Southern Ghana using the Anderson and Newman Behavioural model of Health Service Utilization as a guiding framework. The study utilized a qualitative exploratory descriptive design. Purposive sampling was used to recruit female adolescents. In-depth face-to-face interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide. In all, 12 interviews were conducted. Each interview lasted between 45 and 60 minutes. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using thematic content analysis. Thematic analysis was guided by the constructs of the Anderson and Newman Behavioural model of health service utilization. Utilization of sexual reproductive health services among female adolescents is low in the Tema metropolis. Factors such as unprotected non-consensual sexual activity or an unwanted pregnancy sometimes triggered the use of these services. Barriers to utilization identified include lack of awareness on sexual reproductive health services, unreliable sources of SRH information, underestimation of the severity of sexual reproductive health problems faced, unmet expectations and poor experiences with service providers. The current study identified poor utilization of sexual reproductive health services among female adolescents within the Tema metropolis of Ghana. There is the need to increase the number of adolescent health corners, increase awareness about SRH services among adolescents, improve parent-child SRH communication and provide adequate training for healthcare providers to improve provider attitude towards adolescent SRH service delivery in order to increase utilization of sexual reproductive health services among female adolescents in the Metropolis.

Leadership Commitment and the Quality of Adolescent-Friendly Sexual Reproductive Health Services in Public Health Facilities Among Pastoral Districts of Guji Zone, Ethiopia.

Accessible and high-quality sexual and reproductive health services are essential for adolescents. However, there is a need for more knowledge about the role of leadership and the quality of these services in Ethiopia, where a significant proportion of the population consists of adolescents. Inadequate quality of friendly health services may lead to underutilization and higher rates of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. This study aimed to evaluate the leadership role and quality of friendly health services in the pastoral community of East Guji Zone, Ethiopia. We implemented in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with eight key informants and fifty participants. Study design: We used a programmatic qualitative research design. Data were collected using 22 semi-structured questions and analyzed using ATLAS.ti7. The findings indicate significantly less commitment to health sector leadership and substandard quality of adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health services. Inadequate achievement of the quality of care frameworks, including accessibility, equitability, availability, acceptability, and appropriateness, contributed to the insufficient quality of friendly health services. Poor commitment of health facility leaders influenced the quality of adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health services in the pastoral community of the East Guji Zone, according to the study. We recommend enhancing organizational and provider readiness, ensuring equitability, and redesigning services through improving leadership commitment, which is crucial to improving the quality of adolescent-friendly health services. The Ministry of Health Ethiopia and relevant stakeholders should consider these recommendations to improve the quality of friendly health services for adolescents in Ethiopia.

Assessment of Structural and Process Factors in Delivering Quality Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Services in Ghana.

Sexual and reproductive health services are often underserved to adolescents in many societies. For many of these sexually active adolescents, reproductive health services such as the provision of contraception and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, either are not available or are provided in a way that makes adolescents feel unwelcome and embarrassed. This study assessed the structural and process factors available in delivering quality adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) services in health facilities across three regions in Ghana. A facility-based descriptive cross-sectional study assessed the structural and process factors available for delivering quality adolescent sexual reproductive health services in 158 selected health facilities across three regions (Oti, Eastern, and Volta) of Ghana. A simple random sampling by balloting was used to select the health facilities and a total of 158 adolescents who used ASRH services in the selected facilities were sampled for an existing interview. The Donabedian model of quality assessment was adopted and modified into an assessment tool and a questionnaire to assess the selected health facilities and respondents. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 was used to analyze the data collected and the findings presented in the tables. The study found some structural and process barriers that affected the delivery of quality ASRH services in Ghana. A proportion of 85 (53.50%) of the facilities assessed did not have separate spaces for delivering services for adolescents. All 158 health facilities had the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) covering contraceptive/family planning services for adolescents. Most (128, 81.01%) facilities had available educational materials on ASRH but were not made available for take home by adolescents. The findings indicated that most respondents did not require parental, spouse, or guardian consent before using ASRH services. The average waiting time for adolescents to be attended to by service providers was ≤30 minutes. The study found some structural and process barriers that affected the delivery of quality ASRH services in Ghana. ASRH services, particularly contraceptive/family planning services, were well integrated into NHIS to improve access and utilization by adolescents.

Assessing accessibility of sexual reproductive health services among adolescents and young people living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya

Background: Sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) are fundamental human rights enshrined in national, regional, and international laws and agreements. This study aimed to determine the accessibility of SRHR services among young people living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional study involving a sample of 224 adolescents and young people from Kenya. The study used both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis. Before the study commenced, approvals were acquired from the Kenyatta University ethics and review committee, the National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation, County Governments, and selected county and sub-county health facilities in Kenya. Results: About 68.2% of adolescents and young people (AYP) living with HIV/AIDS accessed SRH services with a significant difference in proportion between study counties (Nairobi city and Homabay counties) in Kenya (χ2=20.553; df=2; p&lt;0.0001). Nevertheless, 33% of them reported that there were challenges that affected access to SRHR services and the unavailability of some services. Therefore, there is a need to ensure enough and constant supply of commodities and supplies for comprehensive care services. Conclusions: The study showed a statistically significant difference in the proportion of AYP living with HIV/AIDS who accessed SRH services in the study counties of Nairobi city and Homabay.

The influence of social capital in the utilisation of sexual reproductive health services among the youth in Ghana. A community-based cross-sectional study.

Social capital, often seen as the resources accessed through social connections, is currently gaining much attention in public health. However, limited studies have focused on the relationship between social capital and reproductive health services. Besides, while the factors associated with the use of reproductive health services among the youth are well documented in the literature, most studies have focused on narrowed perspective failing to take cognisance of the role of social capital. Yet, it is known that these behaviours can be influenced by social factors, which may be beyond the individual's control partly because the youth are embedded in social organisations. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between social capital and the youth's utilisation of reproductive health services.The study population comprised adolescents and young adults aged 15-24 years who were both in and out of school at the time of the survey. The study used a cross-sectional quantitative design involving a community-based household survey method to sample 792 respondents through multi-stage cluster sampling. The chi-square test examined the relationship between sociodemographic, social capital variables and reproductive health services. To account for potential confounding factors, a multivariable logistic regression model included variables from the binary logistic regression analysis with a p-value less than 0.05. In general, access to higher social capital was observed among 493 (62.2%). Almost half, 385 (48.6%) of the respondents have ever used at least one of the reproductive services examined in this study. After controlling all other significant predictors, the following social capital variables remained associated with increased utilisation of SRH services: higher trust in neighbourhood (AOR = 1.8; CI = 1.22-2.66), higher trust in people/institutions (AOR = 2.66; CI = 1.82-3.99), higher social cohesion (AOR = 3.35; CI = 2.21-5.08), stronger network (AOR = 7.55; CI = 4.43-12.87).Access to some social capital dimensions is associated with increased use of reproductive health services. However, any intervention such as mentoring including peer support programs, meant to address social capital needs in sexual and reproductive health should consider the efficacy of each social capital dimension and the intervention's environment.

Utilization of sexual reproductive health services among public service vehicle operators in Nairobi City County, Kenya

Background: Public service vehicle operators and owners are a susceptible demographic in need of specialized treatments due to their high vulnerability to these problems. The primary purpose of this research was to learn on the utilization of sexual reproductive health services (SRH) among public service vehicle (PSV) operators in Nairobi County use sexual and reproductive health care services. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was adopted for the study. The research approach used both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Operators at bus terminals made up the bulk of the research population. The Cochran's formula was used to precisely estimate a sample's contribution to a population, and the sampling estimate had a variance (margin of error) of 0.5. Results: The logistic regression model results showed that, after controlling for demographics, female PSV operators were 97% more likely to use SRH services on at least four separate occasions than their male counterparts (95% CI (0.21 to 0.96), p=0.015). When controlling for age, marital status, and education, PSV operators from universities are 75% more likely to use SRH services than those from primary schools (95% CI (1.12 to 0.75), p=0.001), and those from secondary schools are 68% more likely to use SRH services than those from primary schools (95% CI (0.241 to 0.679), p=0.004). Conclusions: This study concluded that, the utilization of SRH services among PSV is at 36.6%, married PSV operators utilize sexual reproductive health services was more than unmarried PSV operators. Age, level of education and employment status are determinants to utilization of the selected sexual reproductive health services.

Interventions impacting the accessibility of sexual reproductive health services for head porters in sub-Saharan Africa- A scoping review protocol.

Head porters working in markets in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are one of the world's most vulnerable and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. They consist predominantly of uneducated women and girls seeking to escape poverty, early marriage, and other issues of domestic violence. Most female head porters are in their reproductive years and often lack access to sexual reproductive health services (SRHS) despite being at high risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unplanned pregnancies, and gender-based violence. The low priority for women and girls' SRH in many SSA countries highlights the need to explore the factors influencing the accessibility of services for failure to do so restrains human development. An initial search of the literature was conducted and revealed no current scoping or systematic reviews on the accessibility to SRHS for female head porters in SSA. We outline a scoping review protocol, using the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, to determine the interventions that influence the accessibility of SRHS for female head porters in SSA. The protocol is registered with Open Science Framework (https://osf.io/hjfkd). Findings will not only be valuable for female head porters but for all vulnerable female groups in SSA who experience high SRH risks and social disparities.

Thetha Nami ngithethe nawe (Let’s Talk): a stepped-wedge cluster randomised trial of social mobilisation by peer navigators into community-based sexual health and HIV care, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), to reduce sexually transmissible HIV amongst young people in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

BackgroundAntiretroviral therapy (ART) through universal test and treat (UTT) and HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) substantially reduces HIV-related mortality and incidence. Effective ART based prevention has not translated into population-level impact in southern Africa due to sub-optimal coverage among youth. We aim to investigate the effectiveness, implementation and cost effectiveness of peer-led social mobilisation into decentralised integrated HIV and sexual reproductive health (SRH) services amongst adolescents and young adults in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).MethodsWe are conducting a type 1a hybrid effectiveness/implementation study, with a cluster randomized stepped-wedge trial (SWT) to assess effectiveness and a realist process evaluation to assess implementation outcomes. The SWT will be conducted in 40 clusters in rural KZN over 45 months. Clusters will be randomly allocated to receive the intervention in period 1 (early) or period 2 (delayed). 1) Intervention arm: Resident peer navigators in each cluster will approach young men and women aged 15–30 years living in their cluster to conduct health, social and educational needs assessment and tailor psychosocial support and health promotion, peer mentorship, and facilitate referrals into nurse led mobile clinics that visit each cluster regularly to deliver integrated SRH and differentiated HIV prevention (HIV testing, UTT for those positive, and PrEP for those eligible and negative). Standard of Care is UTT and PrEP delivered to 15–30 year olds from control clusters through primary health clinics. There are 3 co-primary outcomes measured amongst cross sectional surveys of 15–30 year olds: 1) effectiveness of the intervention in reducing the prevalence of sexually transmissible HIV; 2) uptake of universal risk informed HIV prevention intervention; 3) cost of transmissible HIV infection averted. We will use a realist process evaluation to interrogate the extent to which the intervention components support demand, uptake, and retention in risk-differentiated biomedical HIV prevention.DiscussionThe findings of this trial will be used by policy makers to optimize delivery of universal differentiated HIV prevention, including HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis through peer-led mobilisation into community-based integrated adolescent and youth friendly HIV and sexual and reproductive health care.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov Identifier—NCT05405582. COVID-19 and sexual reproductive health service utilisation among women of reproductive age in Zambia

ABSTRACT Zambia has made improvements in addressing maternal and child health in the past two decades. The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, which could put a strain on the healthcare systems and alter how access to sexual and reproductive health services is provided, could, however, have a negative impact on the gains. Data from a recent nationally representative COVID-19 survey, conducted in April 2021, was used to examine the utilisation of antenatal care services among pregnant women during the pandemic in Zambia. Overall, 10 per cent (95% CI: 8.0–11.4) of pregnant women missed antenatal care during the COVID-19 period, signifying an increase when compared to the time before the outbreak of COVID-19. Age of a woman and level of education were associated with the risk of missing antenatal care services. The study highlights the need to improve communication to women on availability and access to sexual reproductive health services to stimulate demand and use among women during this period.

Determinants of the utilization of youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services in public secondary schools of Kogi State, Nigeria: an explorative study

BackgroundThis study explored the factors associated with the utilization of Youth-Friendly Sexual Reproductive Health (YFSRH) services among school-going Nigerian adolescents.MethodsThis cross-sectional study employed a mixed method involving school-going students attending five public secondary schools in Kogi State, Nigeria. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the patterns of utilisation of YFSRH services, whereas inferential statistics were performed to determine factors associated with utilization of YFSRH services. Qualitative data were analysed by thematic analyses of records using an inductive analysis.ResultsOne in two secondary school-going students had used the YFSRH services. Most of the participants had poor awareness of YFSRH services and limited access to YFSRH services. While gender positively predicted the utilisation of YFSRH services among secondary school-going students (aOR = 5.7; 95% CI: 2.4–8.95, p = 0.001), we found that age (aOR = 0.94; 95% CI: 0.67–0.99, p = < 0.001), and religious beliefs (aOR = 0.84; 95% CI: 0.77–0.93, p = 0.001) showed a negative relationship with the utilization of YFSRH services.ConclusionsOur findings highlight the influence of gender, age, and religion on utilizing YFSRH services. This study recommends the inclusion of sexuality education into secondary school-going student’s curricula, in order to create awareness about the benefit of utilization of sexual and reproductive health services, and this is to encourage young people to utilize the YFSRH services.

Migrant and Refugee Youth's Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: A Scoping Review to Inform Policies and Programs.

Objectives: Migrants and refugee youth (MRY) in Western nations are less likely to participate in sexual reproductive health (SRH) services. Consequently, MRY are more likely to encounter adverse SRH experiences due to limited access to and knowledge of SRH services. A scoping review was conducted to examine MRY's understanding of and the implications for inclusive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programs and policies. Methods: A systematic search of literature across seven academic databases was conducted. Data were extracted following Partners for Dignity and Rights' Human Rights Assessment framework and analysed using the thematic-synthesis method. Results: 38 literature (peer-reviewed, 24 and grey, 14) were considered eligible for inclusion. The findings highlighted significant barriers and the under-implementation of SRHR support and services by MRY. Key policy implications include a need for programs to support MRY's SRHR education, diversity, equity and inclusiveness and privacy protections. Conclusion: The review shows that the emerging evidence on MRY SRHR suggests gaps in practices for resourcing policies and programs that promote sustainable SRH for vulnerable populations. Policies for MRY's SRHR should prioritise programs that focus on diversity, equity and inclusion with targeted education and community resourcing strategies for sustainability.

Ramifications of Covid-19 pandemic mitigation measures on sexual reproductive health services utilization among women and adolescent girls in Kenya

Background: Women and the adolescents girls in low-middle income countries continue to be the most vulnerable individuals in times of disasters such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with emphasis on their Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH); yet hardly many studies choose to identify gaps that could improve and bring about well-informed interventions during crisis that do not affect other essential services. Hence, this study aimed to identify the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic mitigation measures on access and utilization of sexual reproductive health services and its related SRH outcomes among women and female adolescents in Kenya. Methods: A systematic literature review was performed to collate findings on the given study using 8 databases. Total of 1352 presumably pertinent publication were retrieved of which 20 studies met the study’s inclusion criteria which included studies with quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods study designs in full text and in English without duplicates. Using a data extraction table, thematic analysis was carried out to yield the study findings. Results: Two themes were identified including; service access related outcomes with the sub-themes of maternal health services and HIV/AIDS services and pandemic specific stressors with the sub-themes of Covid-19 mitigation stressors and socio-economic stressors. The findings implied that, women of reproductive age SRH access and utilization was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic’s mitigation responses with adverse SRH adverse health outcomes. Conclusion: In conclusion, the Covid-19 pandemic adversely affected sexual reproductive health services among women and female adolescents in Kenya. The given main findings indicated and recognized the existence of improper set policies and mitigative measures during crisis management, affecting essential services such as SRH.
