COVID-19 and Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting and child marriage: An online multi-country cross sectional survey.

Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and child marriage are prevalent in many countries in Asia and Africa. These practices are a violation of human rights and have significant impacts on the physical and mental well-being of those affected. COVID-19 restrictions such as lockdowns and closure of schools may have influenced the occurrence of FGM/C and child marriage. This analysis reported on the impact of these restrictions on FGM/C and child marriage. The International Sexual Health And REproductive Health (I-SHARE) research team organised a multi-country online survey. Sampling methods included convenience samples, online panels, and population-representative samples. Data collected included the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on the occurrence, intention to practice and change in plans to organise FGM/C and child marriage. Data were analysed from 14 countries that reported on FGM/C and child marriage using basic descriptive statistics. Given it was an online survey, we had more responses from urban areas. Among the 22,724 overall participants, 8,829 participants (38.9%) responded to the survey items on FGM/C and child marriage and were included in this analysis. 249 (3.4%) participants stated that FGM/C occurred in their community during COVID-19. Out of this, COVID-19 affected the plans of 26 (20%) participants intending to organise circumcision and 15% of participants planned to organise FGM/C earlier. People with a worry about finances during COVID-19 were more likely to have an earlier plan to organise FGM/C during COVID-19. In total, 1,429 (13%) participants reported that child marriage occurred in their community. The pandemic affected plans of 52 (13%) participants intending to arrange child marriage and 7.7% (29/384) participants expressed intent to arrange the marriage sooner than planned. People with financial insecurities during COVID-19 were more likely to arrange a child marriage earlier. Thus, our study found that the pandemic impacted plans related to FGM/C and child marriage practices, resulting in many carrying out the practices sooner or later than initially planned.

Exploring patient and staff member views on a 'consent for contact' system for sexual health research: A mixed methods study.

Recruitment in sexual health research is challenging. This study explores the potential of a Consent for Contact system (C4C) - generic consent for research contact - to improve participant recruitment and engagement in sexual health research. Our objectives were to understand patient and staff understanding of research, their views on a separate C4C system, and their preferences for its acceptability in a sexual health clinic setting. A two-stage study was conducted at a large urban UK sexual health clinic from November 2021 to July 2022. Stage one involved a self-completed questionnaire administered to all patients and staff. In Stage 2, semi-structured interviews (SSIs) further explored patient concerns and preferences. Survey data were analysed using chi-square and Fisher's exact test and thematic analysis was applied to free-text responses and SSIs. A total of 205/300 patient (68%) and 41/280 staff questionnaires (15%) were completed. Motivations for research participation included altruism and personal interest. Statistically significant differences were found between patients' and staff members' concerns on confidentiality and anticipated feeling of pressure to participate. The majority of staff (n = 38, 93%) and half of patients (n = 100, 49%) supported implementation of a sexual health C4C system. Participants recognised the potential benefits of a sexual health C4C system, including enhanced privacy and increased research opportunities. Concerns were raised about stigma, terminology, and signing-up methods. This study found the C4C system has the potential to enhance participant recruitment and engagement in sexual health research, but implementation support is narrowly divided with concerns around privacy and sign-up processes. These insights call for a patient-centred design approach, emphasising clear communication and privacy. Future research should focus on implementing and evaluating a sexual health C4C system to further explore their effectiveness and acceptability in different contexts.

Enhancing Mission Wellness: Iterative Optimization and Stakeholder Engagement to Promote Sexual and Reproductive Health in the United States Military.

Sexual and reproductive health is critical for the readiness of the warfighter, as costs of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy result in added health care costs, lost mission time, and impact on morale. The Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) is an engineering-inspired framework used to optimize biobehavioral interventions. The Military Active-Duty Reproductive and Sexual Health (MARSH) research team applied the MOST framework to develop "Mission Wellness"-an electronic health intervention to promote sexual and reproductive health within the U.S. Military. From 2017 to 2022, the MARSH team implemented the first and second phases of MOST to develop and optimize "Mission Wellness." All phases received institutional review board approval. The first phase consisted of expert and literature review, qualitative interviews, and beta testing to identify intervention components and the optimization objective and to inform study design. The second phase consisted of a factorial trial. Figures1-4 outline the research program approach, demographics of the sample, and format of the app. Service members who used the application found it to be acceptable and, overall, reported that it would be easier to talk to a sexual partner about risk behaviors and history at the post-intervention assessment compared to baseline. This iterative optimization approach using both local and strategic engagement enhanced program development and set the stage for dissemination and implementation efforts. In line with the iterative nature of MOST, the lessons learned during the optimization trial led the MARSH team to return "Mission Wellness" to the preparation phase. The utilization of mixed (i.e., qualitative and quantitative) research methods and engagement with stakeholders at multiple levels of the military enterprise provided the information necessary to further optimize "Mission Wellness." This programmatic approach also provides a blueprint for the development of research design and testing in military health care balancing rigor and agility.

Sexual Identity Continuity and Change in a U.S. National Probability Sample of Sexual Minority Adults: Associations With Mental Health and Problematic Substance Use.

Sexual minority disparities in behavioral health (e.g., mental health and substance use) are well-established. However, sexual identity is dynamic, and changes are common across the life course (e.g., identifying with a monosexual [lesbian or gay] label and later with a plurisexual [queer, pansexual, etc.] label). This study assessed whether behavioral health risks coincide with sexual identity change among sexual minority people. Associations in a 3-year U.S. national probability sample of sexual minority adults were assessed between sexual minority identity change (consistently monosexual [N=400; 44.3% weighted], consistently plurisexual [N=239; 46.7% weighted], monosexual to plurisexual [N=19; 4.2% weighted], and plurisexual to monosexual [N=25; 4.8% weighted]) and five behavioral health indicators (psychological distress, social well-being, number of poor mental health days in the past month, problematic alcohol use, and problematic use of other drugs), controlling for demographic characteristics and baseline behavioral health. Among female participants, monosexual-to-plurisexual identity change (vs. consistently monosexual identity) was associated with greater psychological distress (B=3.41, SE=1.13), lower social well-being (B=-0.61, SE=0.25), and more days of poor mental health in the past month (B=0.69 [Bexp=1.99], SE=0.23). Among male participants, plurisexual-to-monosexual identity change (vs. consistently plurisexual identity) was associated with lower social well-being (B=-0.56, SE=0.25), and identity change (regardless of type) was generally associated with increased problematic use of alcohol and other drugs. Sexual identity change is an important consideration for sexual minority behavioral health research, with changes (vs. consistency) in identity being an important risk factor for compromised behavioral health. Prevention and treatment interventions may need to tailor messaging to sexual minority men and women differently.

‘I just LOVE data’: perceptions and practices of data sharing and privacy among users of the Lioness

High profile data breaches and the proliferation of self-tracking technologies generating bio-feedback data have raised concerns about data privacy and data sharing practices among users of these devices. However, our understanding of how self-trackers in sexual health populations, where the data may be sensitive, personal, and stigmatising, perceive data privacy and sharing is limited. This study combined industry consultation with a survey of users of the world’s first biofeedback smart vibrator, the Lioness, that enables users to monitor and analyse their sexual response intensity and orgasm duration over time. We found users of the Lioness are motivated to self-track by both individual and altruistic goals: to learn more about their bodies, and to contribute to research that leads to better sexual health outcomes. Perceptions of data privacy and data sharing were shaped by an eagerness to collaborate with sexual health researchers to challenge traditional male-centric perspectives in biomedical research on women’s sexual health, where gender plays a crucial role in defining healthcare systems and outcomes. This study extends our understanding of the non-digital aspects of self-tracking by emphasising the role of gender and inclusive healthcare advocacy in shaping perceptions of data privacy and sharing within sexual health populations.

Strengthening healthcare delivery in Rwanda: Implementation science training for reproductive health researchers

BackgroundAddressing the gap between research and practice is crucial for enhancing reproductive healthcare outcomes. In Rwanda and other low- and middle-income countries, bolstering health researchers’ implementation science (IS) capacity is essential. We present a pre-post-intervention study assessing the influence of an intensive IS training program on Rwandan reproductive health researchers’ perceived IS knowledge and self-efficacy in applying IS in their own research. MethodsTo introduce IS principles, we held a one-day training for a diverse cohort of 25 sexual and reproductive health researchers in Rwanda. The training encompassed modules on IS concepts, methodologies, and practical applications. Pre- and post-training assessments gauged changes in participants’ perceived IS knowledge and self-efficacy in applying IS in their own work. ResultsThe study revealed a significant improvement in self-efficacy related to performing IS related tasks. Researchers reported heightened confidence in designing and implementing evidence-based interventions. In terms of perceived knowledge, participants retained what they learned at 4 months. The training fostered a collaborative learning environment, encouraging participants to exchange ideas and experiences. ConclusionTargeted training in IS appears to enhance reproductive health researchers’ capacity to translate research into practice, potentially leading to improved healthcare outcomes in Rwanda. Moving forward, we advocate for the Ministry of Health to establish structures for IS research agenda-setting, particularly for sexual and reproductive health and rights. Ideally, universities, health systems, and research institutions will incorporate IS capacity strengthening into their routine activities. Ongoing training is crucial to reinforce and expand IS knowledge. Our findings are expected to inform future interventions and guide policy development.

Abstract PS18-08: Bridging Disparities in Survivorship Care: Leveraging Telehealth for Diverse Patients in Safety Net Hospital

Abstract Background There are 3.8 million breast cancer survivors (BCS) in the United States and 67-88% of them report unmet needs in survivorship care. With advancements in breast cancer treatment and improved survival rates, there is a growing need to expand survivorship care to address the long-term physical, psychosocial, and medical needs of cancer survivors. There is a significant disparity in access to high-quality survivorship care, particularly for diverse patient populations in safety net hospitals. BCS in marginalized communities experience worse health-related quality of life (HRQOL) outcomes following cancer treatment in the management of symptoms, complications of treatment, and overall health-related distress. Thus, new models that leverage complex care management principles and novel care delivery systems, such as telehealth, are needed to provide multidisciplinary care and support for self-management. Methods We conducted a single-arm, pilot intervention trial of telehealth group medical visits (tGMV) in a safety net hospital serving low-income and racially and ethnically diverse BCS. The study team included physicians, advanced practitioners, PCPs, clinical psychologists, nurses, dieticians, exercise instructors, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, sexual health counselors, research coordinators, and patient navigators. We enrolled a total of 6 cohorts of 7-10 BCS for the tGMV intervention (2 cohorts each in English, Spanish, and Cantonese). Each cohort had four weekly sessions on the following topics: 1) Reclaiming your health after cancer, 2) Managing emotional health, 3) Sexual health and relationship, and 4) Food is medicine. All participants were trained on the telehealth video conference platform. The curriculum was culturally adapted in the Spanish and Cantonese cohorts. Study staff followed up with participants by phone after each session. We evaluated feasibility and acceptability as primary outcomes with prespecified thresholds for >90 % completion of planned sessions and >70% attendance. Participants’ evaluation of the intervention and self-efficacy were secondary outcomes, which are not reported in this abstract. Results Fifty-three women with stage I-III breast cancer were enrolled in the study. The age was 37 to 75 (median: 58). There were 14 (26%) English-speaking participants, 19 (36%) Spanish-speaking participants, and 20 (38%) Cantonese-speaking participants. Eight (15%) participants identified as White, three (5.7%) Black A/A, 23 (43%) Asians, and 19 (36%) Hispanic; 43 (81%) participants were foreign-born. Twenty-seven (51%) participants reported food insecurity on the screening survey. The overall attendance rate was 98% (English: 97%, Spanish: 97%, and Cantonese: 100%). Of the 53 participants, 41 (77%) found the telehealth format acceptable, 47 (88%) agreed/strongly agreed that it was easy to log in and stay connected, 53 (100%) agreed/strongly agreed that tGMV were a good use of their time, 52 (98%) understood the purpose of the telehealth format, and 50 (94%) felt the information was easy to understand. Conclusions Telehealth-delivered group medical visits are feasible and acceptable in a safety net setting and are a promising intervention that may help in addressing the unmet needs of cancer survivors. We also found that despite the reported low uptake of telehealth in safety net settings, emphasis on training and technical support during sessions can increase the utilization of telehealth. Research in brief: How prevalent is rough sex? Results from a national online sample of adults in Germany.

Rough sex refers to consensual sexual activities that incorporate playful aggression, such as hair pulling, spanking, or choking. It is relevant in the context of sexual health as it can enhance sexual arousal, pleasure, and intimacy among consenting partners. However, it can also be associated with consent violations, discomfort, and injuries ranging from mild to severe or even fatal. The prevalence of rough sex in Germany is widely unknown. Our study aims to establish, for the first time, the overall age-related and gender-related prevalence rates of active and passive rough sex involvement among adults in Germany. A national online sample of 1101 adults from Germany, aged 18-69 years (50% men, 49% women, 1% gender-diverse individuals) gave informed consent and reported on their lifetime engagement in rough sex in active and passive roles. We recruited participants through a professional panel provider for a multi-themed sexual health survey. Data analysis was conducted using R, with 95% confidence intervals of prevalence rates computed to answer the research questions. Lifetime prevalence of rough sex involvement was 29%. Adults below the age of 40 reported higher rates of involvement (up to 43%) than people over 40 (up to 26%). Men reported predominantly active role involvement and women reported primarily passive role involvement. Results show that rough sex is common. Sexual health professionals, educators, and researchers should be prepared to guide current and aspiring practitioners of rough sex, helping them understand potential benefits, risks, and age- and gender-related differences.

How LGBTQ+ Young Adults Navigate Personal Risk in App-Based Hookups: The Safety Spectrum Theory.

Research on hooking up is rife with examinations of risky sexual health practices among LGBTQ+ young adults; yet, little has been written about the personal safety practices for this population. This omission is notable because safety practices can enhance the notable positive outcomes related to hooking up. Drawing on one-on-one interviews with 50 LGBTQ+ young adults (20 cismen, 20 ciswomen, two transmen, and eight others) in British Columbia, California, and Connecticut, we developed the safety spectrum theory, which used a spectral measurement to assess how LGBTQ+ young adults negotiate safety practices and implement safety rules. This spectrum was then applied to a three-step sequence of application (app)-based hookup rituals: online initiation, pre-meeting preparation, and in-person meetup. Results indicated that safety strategies may be dictated by situational factors, where individuals adapt to varying circumstances to be more in control of personal safety when hooking up. We further identified that participants move across the spectrum depending upon contextual factors, such as the gender of the potential hookup partner. This work suggests that LGBTQ+ young adults are mindful of their personal safety and deserve more credit than previously attributed in queer and sexual health research. From these findings, we provide evidence-based recommendations to make dating/hookup apps and public health campaigns more effective at mitigating hookup-related risks.

A call for sex-positive epidemiology.

The World Health Organization specifies that sexual health requires the potential for pleasurable and safe sexual experiences. Yet epidemiologic research into sexual pleasure and other positive sexual outcomes has been scant. In this commentary, we aim to support the development and adoption of sex-positive epidemiology, which we define as epidemiology that incorporates the study of pleasure and other positive features alongside sexually transmitted infections and other familiar negative outcomes. We first call epidemiologists' attention to the potential role that stigma plays in the suppression of sex-positive research. We further describe existing measures of sex-positive constructs that may be useful in epidemiologic research. Finally, the study of sex-positive constructs is vulnerable to biases that are well-known to epidemiologists, especially selection bias, information bias, and confounding. We outline how these biases influence existing research and identify opportunities for future research. Epidemiologists have the potential to contribute a great deal to the study of sexuality by bringing their considerable methodological expertise to long-standing challenges in the field. We hope to encourage epidemiologists to broaden their sexual health research to encompass positive outcomes and pleasure.

Embedding research capacity strengthening in multi-country studies in low-and middle-income countries: learnings from sexual and reproductive health research

ABSTRACT Research capacity strengthening (RCS) can empower individuals, institutions, networks, or countries to define and prioritize problems systematically; develop and scientifically evaluate appropriate solutions; and reinforce or improve capacities to translate knowledge into policy and practice. However, how to embed RCS into multi-country studies focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) is largely undocumented. We used findings from a qualitative study, from a review of the literature, and from a validation exercise from a panel of experts from research institutions that work on SRHR RCS. We provide a framework for embedded RCS; suggest a set of seven concrete actions that research project planners, designers, implementers, and funders can utilise to guide embedded RCS activities in low- and middle-income countries; and present a practical checklist for planning and assessing embedded RCS in research projects.

Spanish adaptation and validation of sexual distress scale in Colombian population

Background/ObjectiveThe adaptation and validation of measures to assess Sexual Distress (SD) are crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunction. This study aimed to adapt and validate the Spanish Sexual Distress Scale (SDS) in a Colombian sample and provide a percentile ranking score for a comprehensive understanding of sexual distress among the population. MethodFive hundred ninety-six people from Colombia (50.08 % women; 49.92 % men) aged 18–60 participated in the study. Exploratory and confirmatory factorial analyses and a convergent validity analysis were performed. ResultsThe SDS showed a high internal consistency (Ω = .95, α = .94) and a unidimensional model. Significative correlations were found between the SDS and related measures with sexual functioning, further supporting its convergent validity. ConclusionsThe SDS is a valid and reliable measure to evaluate SD in Colombians, with implications for clinical practice and sexual health research. More investigations are needed to address the limitations, strengthen the validity and reliability of the scale, and develop specific interventions based on its results.

Knowledge and Attitudes Regarding Family Planning Options in Armenia.

In many Transcaucasian and Middle Eastern populations, research in women's sexual and reproductive health remains limited, especially in Armenia despite recent political and cultural changes. This study explores the current state of family planning in Armenia while both highlighting the recent progress and identifying current barriers to reproductive health. We conducted a mixed-methods study using both a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews with women and key informants in the field of women's sexual and reproductive health. Armenian women are familiar with many types of contraception. The use of modern methods has increased but remains low. Sexual education for women is uncommon and often sought through independent online searches or books. We found no significant access barriers, however, a prevailing distrust in hormonal contraceptive methods left many women to rely on condoms and withdrawal. Although the majority of surveyed women (72%) believed having access to safe abortions was an important right, only 42% would consider having an abortion in the case of an unintended pregnancy. Interviewees highlighted the lack of sexual education, discrepancies in sexual and reproductive services between rural provinces and the urban capital city of Yerevan, as well as the need for information and the government's responsibility in this field. The lack of comprehensive sexual education in Armenia fuels misinformation regarding family planning options. One option we recommend is a government-funded sexual education program which begins as culturally sensitive, sex-positive education in schools and continues with counseling and support for women within the health care system.

Queering Cisgender LGB+ Women’s Sexual Health Scripts

ABSTRACT The invisibility of lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB+) women in sexual health research is of particular concern when it comes to understanding and supporting their sexual health practices. We conducted a qualitative secondary analysis of sexual health decision-making interviews among 22 LGB+ cisgender women who ranged in age from 20 to 26 (M = 23.1 years, SD = 1.8 years). Participants were mostly bisexual (n = 9), White (n = 13), and all reported at least some college education. Results showed that LGB+ women both reify and push against heteronormativity in their sexual partnerships. By queering definitions of “sex” beyond heterosexual intercourse, leaning into trust as a foundation of new sexual partnerships, and promoting accessible and realistic hygienic strategies for STI prevention, LGB+ women queer, or reimagine, new sexual scripts. These results highlight the need for relationship and sexual health scholars to direct focus toward the promotion of holistic sexual and relationship education and research which reflects LGB+ women’s various sexual desires, goals and needs. Understanding LGB+ women’s sexual scripts and health outcomes will ensure that this population continues to be validated and supported by clinicians, researchers, and educators.

Tailoring Sexual Health Research Practices to Meet the Needs of Adolescent Girls in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: Findings from Mexico.

Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) research is essential for the development of population-tailored evidence-based policies and programs that support sexual health among adolescent girls. However, ethical challenges create barriers to girls' participation in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). From February to September 2019, girls aged 16-20 (n = 30) who participated in the Jovenes Sanos study in Tijuana, Baja California (ClinicalTrials: NCT03660514) responded to in-depth interviews (IDs) on the perceived risks and benefits of participating in studies which address gender-based violence, unintended pregnancy, and STIs. Emergent themes indicated the need to ensure that consent and incentive procedures are tailored to the developmental level of participants, while highlighting the importance of researcher-participant relationships, and demonstrating how research can serve as an opportunity to empower girls to express their sexual health medical needs. Understanding adolescent girls' voices is a critical step in ensuring that consent to participate SRH research is tailored to the developmental needs of participants, is culturally competent, and has a participant-centered approach.

(264) Prioritizing Sexual and Reproductive Health Research and Care for People with Cystic Fibrosis: A 2023 Workshop Report From the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Sexual Health, Reproduction, and Gender Research (SHARING) Working Group

Abstract Introduction With therapy advances, people with cystic fibrosis (CF) are living longer, healthier lives, and thus increasingly have general and CF-specific sexual and reproductive health (SRH) questions. The CF Foundation is supporting the Sexual Health, Reproduction, and Gender Research (SHARING) Working Group to identify knowledge gaps, research priorities, and infrastructure needed for CF SRH research. SHARING includes pulmonologists, nurses, research coordinators, registered dieticians, psychiatrists, endocrinologists, reproductive urologists, and community members with CF. Objective In Spring 2023, SHARING developed and distributed a SRH prioritization survey for the CF community. During the annual in-person workshop, the group used these results to establish research priorities and develop studies that would address identified knowledge gaps. Methods SHARING partnered with Community Voice, a virtual platform for people with CF and their caregivers to share their perspectives on ongoing and future CF SRH research, care, and programming. We provided a list of 15 SRH research topics and asked respondents to rank the top five. We analyzed survey results using descriptive statistics. We also summarized discussions and future key directions for CF SRH research. Results A total of 303 respondents (85% people with CF and 15% caregivers) completed the survey. Sixty-five percent of people with CF were women and 37% of the people with CF for whom caregivers responded were women/girls. The majority (95% of adults, 98% of people with CF for whom caregivers responded) identified as White; 5% of adults and 10% of people with CF for whom caregivers responded were Hispanic/Latino. The majority (73%) of people with CF were >30 years old and 68% of those with CF for whom caregivers responded were <18 years old. Table 1 summarizes respondent demographics. The top five SRH topics were: 1) effects of CF modulator therapy (elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor, ETI) on sex hormones; 2) effects of sex hormones on CF; 3) fertility; 4) pregnancy; and 5) SRH/mental health (Figure 1). People with CF prioritized pregnancy, sexual functioning, parenthood, and menopause, while caregivers prioritized ETI effects on sex hormones, fertility, mental health, and assisted reproductive technology (ART). SRH priorities differed by gender identity. Men and caregivers of men/boys prioritized fertility, mental health, SRH care provision, sexual functioning, and ART, while women and caregivers of women/girls prioritized the effect of sex hormones in CF, pregnancy, menopause, and contraception. During workshop proceedings, SHARING identified the need for further research on the interplay between sex hormones, CF pathophysiology, ETI, fertility, and ART, and a focus on the impact of infertility on mental health for males with CF. Conclusions SRH is an important and emerging area of research in CF. Research priorities are not uniform among people with CF and their caregivers, particularly across genders. Thoughtful consideration of such perspectives can ensure that future CF SRH research is relevant and responsive to CF community needs. Sexual and reproductive health research capacity strengthening programs in low- and middle-income countries: A scoping review.

Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) research capacity strengthening (RCS) programs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are needed to foster the discovery of context-specific solutions to improve patient outcomes and population health. There remains a limited understanding of SRH research strengthening programs to raise skill sets, publications, and infrastructure and ultimately influence health policy and patient outcomes in LMICs. More information is needed to understand how SRH research is sustained after program completion. To inform efforts to implement programs that strengthen SRH research and foster sustainability, we conducted a scoping review to identify and synthesize strategies used in SRH research strengthening programs in LMICs. A literature search of nine scholarly databases was conducted. We synthesized data extracted from included articles and presented results highlighting the format, duration, and topics covered of program interventions to strengthen SRH research in LMICs. We organized information about primary outcomes into themes and summarized how SRH research capacity was sustained after program completion. Twenty-four articles were included in the scoping review. The articles generally focused on outcomes within the themes of advocacy/capacity, education, policy, project life cycle, and writing/publication. Few articles reported metrics or other evidence of long-term program sustainability of SRH RCS projects in LMICs. Results from this scoping review can be used to strengthen SRH research programs in LMICs. More energy must be directed toward correcting power imbalances in capacity strengthening initiatives. To address additional gaps, future directions for research should include an exploration of SRH research mentorship, the cost of SRH RCS interventions, and how to foster institutional support.

17-20 September 2024 ICC Sydney, Gadigal Country, Australia Theme: "Commitment to sexual and reproductive health and human rights" Taking place 17-20 September 2024 at the International Convention Centre in Sydney, Gadigal Country, the 25th IUSTI World Congress will this year incorporate the Australasian Sexual and Reproductive Health Conference. This congress will provide an opportunity to meet, discuss and learn about the latest research and innovation in sexual and reproductive health. The program will incorporate a range of world leading speakers and presentations, allowing delegates to expand their professional knowledge through local and international insight. All abstracts submitted for consideration in the 2024 program were independently reviewed by three experts on a range of criteria. These results were aggregated and presented to the Scientific Program Committee who used the scores and feedback from reviewers to select which presentations would be accepted into the program. These scores also determined the top abstracts within each theme. Hard-to-Reach or Hardly Reached? The "Difficulty" of Engaging Cisgender Black Females in Sexual Health Research.

Rather than placing the onus on stigmatized and disenfranchised communities as hard-to-reach in sexual health research, we challenge researchers to recognize and provide outreach to populations who are hardly reached, such as cisgender Black women. We posit that the disparate human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates experienced by Black women in the USA are due in part to social and structural inequities and lack of researcher outreach within these communities. Social inequities give rise to racial and gender discrimination, which often results in structural barriers that researchers may not acknowledge. Structural barriers include medical mistrust and lack of access to preventative sexual health services, health care, education, and other resources. To achieve health equity, researchers must engage with Black women to understand the unique struggles they face and intervene with non-stigmatizing, culturally appropriate interventions. Interventions must utilize gatekeepers, influencers, community organizations, community advisory boards, and peer support. It is critical that sexual health researchers reach out to those who do not fall under the traditional hard-to-reach category but are hardly reached to counteract the current projection that 1 in 32 Black women will be diagnosed with HIV in their lifetime.
