Group action with finite orbits on local dendrites

It is shown that the restriction of the action of any group with finite orbit on the minimal sets of local dendrites is equicontinuous. Consequently, we obtain that the action of any amenable group and Thompson group restricted to any minimal sets of dendrite is equicontinuous. We further provide a class of non-amenable groups whose action on the minimal sets of local dendrites is equicontinuous. Moreover, we extend some of our results to dendron. We further give a characterization of the set of invariant probability measures and its extreme points.

Invariant measures for actions of congruent monotileable amenable groups

In this paper we show that for every congruent monotileable amenable group $G$ and for every metrizable Choquet simplex $K$, there exists a minimal $G$-subshift, which is free on a full measure set, whose set of invariant probability measures is affine homeomorphic to $K$. If the group is virtually abelian, the subshift is free. Congruent monotileable amenable groups are a generalization of amenable residually finite groups. In particular, we show that this class contains all the infinite countable virtually nilpotent groups. This article is a generalization to congruent monotileable amenable groups of one of the principal results shown in \[3] for residually finite groups.

Pesin’s entropy formula for $$C^1$$ C 1 non-uniformly expanding maps

We prove existence of equilibrium states with special properties for a class of distance expanding local homeomorphisms on compact metric spaces and continuous potentials. Moreover, we formulate a C$^1$ generalization of Pesin's Entropy Formula: all ergodic weak-SRB-like measures satisfy Pesin's Entropy Formula for $C^1$ non-uniformly expanding maps. We show that for weak-expanding maps such that $\Leb$-a.e $x$ has positive frequency of hyperbolic times, then all the necessarily existing ergodic weak-SRB-like measures satisfy Pesin's Entropy Formula and are equilibrium states for the potential $\psi=-\log|\det Df|$. In particular, this holds for any $C^1$-expanding map and in this case the set of invariant probability measures that satisfy Pesin's Entropy Formula is the weak$^*$-closed convex hull of the ergodic weak-SRB-like measures.

Some examples of repetitive, nonrectifiable Delone sets

We construct examples of Delone sets of the plane (that is, discrete subsets that are uniformly separated and coarsely dense) that are repetitive (each patch of the set appears in every large-enough ball) though non-rectifiable (i.e. non bi-Lipschitz equivalent to the standard lattice). More generally, we construct such a set so that the translation action on the closure of its orbit has any prescribed Choquet simplex as its set of invariant probability measures (in particular, we provide uniquely ergodic examples). The construction relies on classical examples of Burago-Kleiner and McMullen, for which we give pure combinatorial (an effective) versions that have interest by themselves.

Invariant measures of minimal post-critical sets of logistic maps

We construct logistic maps whose restriction to the ω-limit set of its critical point is a minimal Cantor system having a prescribed number of distinct ergodic and invariant probability measures. In fact, we show that every metrizable Choquet simplex whose set of extreme points is compact and totally disconnected can be realized as the set of invariant probability measures of a minimal Cantor system corresponding to the restriction of a logistic map to the ω-limit set of its critical point. Furthermore, we show that such a logistic map f can be taken so that each such invariant measure has zero Lyapunov exponent and is an equilibrium state of f for the potential −ln |f′|.

Realization of a Choquet simplex as the set of invariant probability measures of a tiling system

In this paper we show that, for every Choquet simplex $K$ and for every $d>1$, there exists a ${\mathbb Z}^d$-Toeplitz system whose set of invariant probability measures is affine homeomorphic to $K$. Then, we conclude that $K$ may be realized as the set of invariant probability measures of a tiling system $(\Omega_T,{\mathbb R}^d)$.

Bratteli–Vershik models for Cantor minimal systems: applications to Toeplitz flows

We construct Bratteli–Vershik models for Toeplitz flows and characterize a class of properly ordered Bratteli diagrams corresponding to these flows. We use this result to extend by a novel approach—using basic theory of dimension groups—an interesting and non-trivial result about Toeplitz flows, first shown by Downarowicz. (Williams had previously obtained preliminary results in this direction.) The result states that to any Choquet simplex $K$, there exists a $0$–$1$ Toeplitz flow $(Y,\psi)$, so that the set of invariant probability measures of $(Y,\psi)$ is affinely homeomorphic to $K$. Not only do we give a conceptually new proof of this result, we also show that we may choose $(Y,\psi)$ to have zero entropy and to have full rational spectrum.Furthermore, our Bratteli–Vershik model for a given Toeplitz flow explicitly exhibits the factor map onto the maximal equicontinuous (odometer) factor. We utilize this to give a simple proof of the existence of a uniquely ergodic 0–1 Toeplitz flow of zero entropy having a given odometer as its maximal equicontinuous factor and being strongly orbit equivalent to this factor. By the same token, we show the existence of 0–1 Toeplitz flows having the 2-odometer as their maximal equicontinuous factor, being strong orbit equivalent to the same, and assuming any entropy value in $[0,\ln 2)$.Finally, we show by an explicit example, using Bratteli diagrams, that Toeplitz flows are not preserved under Kakutani equivalence (in fact, under inducing)—contrasting what is the case for substitution minimal systems. In fact, the example we exhibit is an induced system of a 0–1 Toeplitz flow which is conjugate to the Chacon substitution system, thus it is prime, i.e. it has no non-trivial factors.The thrust of our paper is to demonstrate the relevance and usefulness of Bratteli–Vershik models and dimension group theory for the study of minimal symbolic systems. This is also exemplified in recent papers by Forrest and by Durand, Host and Skau, treating substitution minimal systems, and by papers by Boyle, Handelman and by Ormes.
