A service-oriented edge platform for cyber-physical systems

The purpose of this paper is to present an edge pervasive platform supporting the development, deployment and management of flexible, context-aware pervasive applications. This platform, named iCasa, is built on top of the OSGi/iPOJO service-oriented component model. It includes an autonomic context module connected to the physical environment and providing information as a dynamic set of services. This context is dynamic in order to reflect the changing nature of the execution environment but also to deal with applications evolving needs. ICasa also comes with an Eclipse-base development environment including a source code editor, build automation tools, automated deployment facilities, and a smart home configurator and simulator. ICasa has been validated on a variety of applications, mostly in collaboration with Orange Telecom company and Schneider Electric. It is available on the Internet (self-star.net) and is heavily used today for teaching purposes, in addition to industrial developments.

Application Case Study Based on Service Component Oriented Architecture

Service oriented component model provided a universal calling method for different interfaces and also provided many Qos capabilities towards enterprise computing. By illustrating an application use case about how to become a corporation partner, the paper discussed the application of service oriented component architecture in the real system. This application case was the case which made a user to be the partner of company through the method of SCA service component programming. The integration diagram in the paper showed the integration of business perspective, not the implementation of specific details, which was done by a Java project. Data type, interface and assembly diagram were all stored as XML files. Data type was defined through XML Schema and interface was defined through WSDL and XSD, in which standard XML specification were all used. The conclusion is it is feasible for the programming method based on service oriented component architecture.

Architecting multimedia environments for teaching

Thus far, developers have created only partial solutions for using computational equipment in education. Research must focus more effort on developing architectures capable of combining technologies that target the classroom and that allow specifying "what" rather than "how" tasks should be done. The difficult task of architecting multimedia environments for teaching must start with a needs analysis. The most challenging task involves warranting reliability on the one hand, while accommodating opportunities for innovation on the other. Thus, we propose building a reliable, ubiquitous, adaptable, and easy-to-use technology-integrating black box. Placing this system atop a service-oriented component model implemented on a platform-independent layer such as a virtual machine provide the adaptability developers need. Loosely coupled components accommodate a nonmonolithic approach and ease reuse. By reusing and enhancing components, the system become increasingly reliable, while a building-block architecture keep it manageable.
