Exploring the Trend of Technology Use and Innovation in Health Care Service in Hospitals through a Bibliometric Analysis

Background: Information technology innovation is needed in various fields, including health. In the health sector, technological innovations can be applied to patient care, hospital management and research. Technological innovation can be applied to various hospital activities, from patient data collection to cleaning staff activities. Various innovations are needed to simplify health service activities to make services more effective and efficient. The purpose of the study was to explore the trend of technology use and innovation in health care services in hospitals by analyzing network visualization, overlay visualization, and density visualization on the topic through bibliometric analysis. Main body: In this research, bibliometric analysis was used. Records were identified through a database search at https://app.dimensions.ai/. The data obtained was then selected further by the PRISMA flow diagram. Papers were limited to publication years 2020-2023. The publication type is the article only, on the other hand, book chapters, thesis and proceeding publications are excluded. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer, and then reviewed by co-occurrence and co-authors. From the network visualization, it was identified that there were 199 items divided into 8 clusters with 9,504 links with a total link strength of 54,785. After identifying the clusters, the trends of technology use and innovation in health care services in hospitals were artificial intelligence, digital health technology, electronic health records, health information technology, smart health, telemedicine, virtual care, communication technology, electronic medical records and health care delivery. From the overlay visualization, it was indicated that the newest topics that were widely researched related to this theme were digital health service, digital transformation, digital health technology, digital tools, and telehealth service. From density visualization, it was indicated that topics that were rarely researched related to trends of technology use and innovation in healthcare services in hospitals were communication technology, healthcare organizations, and digital solutions. Conclusion: Technological developments have had a major impact on improving the quality of services in hospitals. Health professionals need to develop and improve their competencies so that they can continue to keep up with current technological developments and innovations.

Inclusive innovations in services: leveraging digital technologies for inclusive innovations in healthcare services

PurposeThis paper aims to provide insights into the potential of digital technologies-based innovations for more inclusive healthcare by alleviating the affordability, accessibility and availability barriers to utilization of healthcare services. Also, it aims to provide insights into the potential of digital technologies-based innovations for more inclusive services, broadly.Design/methodology/approachA conceptual framework is inductively developed by analyzing real-world examples of digital technologies-based innovations for more inclusive healthcare through the lenses of economics of information in digital form and certain characteristics of services.FindingsConcurrent implementation of digital technologies-based healthcare innovations with innovations and/or modifications in service processes can enable greater inclusivity by alleviating the affordability, accessibility and availability barriers to utilization of healthcare services.Research limitations/implicationsIssues relating to inequities in healthcare, as a social problem, are the focus of research at multiple levels (e.g. global, national, regional and local) in several academic disciplines. In relation to the scope of the problems and challenges pertaining to providing quality healthcare to the unserved and underserved segments of society, worldwide, the contribution of the proposed framework to practice is modest. However, by highlighting the promise and potential of digital technologies-based innovations as solutions for alleviating barriers to affordability, accessibility and availability of healthcare services during various stages (prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment follow-up) with illustrative vignettes and developing a framework, the article offers insights for future research. For instance, in reference to mission-driven social enterprises that operate in the product-market space for inclusive innovations under resource constraints, a resourcefulness-based view of the social enterprise constitutes a potential avenue for theory development and research.Practical implicationsGiven the conceptual nature of the article, the implications for practice are limited to cognitive implications. Action implications (instrumental implications or implications for practice) are outside of the scope of the article.Social implicationsInnovations that are economically viable, environmentally sustainable and socially impactful is one of the important issues of our times.Originality/valueThe proposed framework provides insights into the potential of digital technologies-based innovations for more inclusive healthcare by alleviating the affordability, accessibility and availability barriers in the context of emerging and less developed country markets and base of the pyramid segments of society in these markets.

Knowledge collaboration and online medical teams’ performance: a multiple participation perspective

PurposeOnline medical teams (OMTs) have emerged as an innovative healthcare service mode that relies on the collaboration of doctors to produce comprehensive medical recommendations. This study delves into the relationship between knowledge collaboration and team performance in OMTs and examines the complex effects of participation patterns.Design/methodology/approachThe analysis uses a dataset that consists of 2,180 OMTs involving 8,689 doctors. Ordinary least squares regression with robust standard error is adopted for data analysis.FindingsOur findings demonstrate a positive influence of knowledge collaboration on OMT performance. Leader participation weakens the relationship between knowledge collaboration and team performance, whereas multidisciplinary participation strengthens it. Passive participation and chief doctor participation have no significant effect on the association between knowledge collaboration and OMT performance.Originality/valueThis study provides valuable insights into how knowledge collaboration shapes OMTs' performance and reveals how the participation of different types of members affects outcomes. Our findings offer important practical implications for the optimization of online health platforms and for enhancing the effectiveness of collaborative healthcare delivery.

Patient Victimhood and the Risks of Using Artificial Intelligence Technology in Healthcare

Artificial intelligence technologies are of increasing interest in the field of medicine and are one of the key areas for the digital transformation of healthcare . According to a number of experts, medical professionals and digital technology developers, the use of medical devices equipped with artificial intelligence technologies will raise healthcare to a high level, which will lead to improved clinical decision-making, high-quality analysis of digital images, prediction and control of the correctness of the prescribed treatment .However, failures associated with the use of medical devices equipped with artificial intelligence systems can have serious consequences for both clinical outcomes and patients . These consequences could undermine public confidence in artificial intelligence technologies and health care institutions in general . Given the certain novelty of technological solutions, data on the clinical efficacy and safety of products equipped with artificial intelligence are currently considered insufficient .This publication raises two important issues . The first part of the study describes the main physical, social and mental characteristics (properties) of patients that increase the likelihood that they will be victimized in the event of a crime situation in innovative health care services . The second part of the study identifies the risks of using AI technologies in health care that are of greatest concern to both patients and those exploiting innovative technologies .

Analysis of Hospital Without Wall Service Quality at Dr. Iskak Tulungagung Hospital With Donabedian’s Model

dr. Iskak Tulungagung hospital made a healthcare service innovation during Covid-19 pandemic. This innovation called as hospital without wall to reduce the Covid-19 transmission. This program provides overall health services integrating pre-, intra-, inter-, and post-hospital care services through the Public Safety Center (PSC) platform. Authors examine the implementation of a hospital without walls in post-hospital aspect by using Donabedian's Model to improve service quality. The independent variables are facility and waiting time. The dependent variable is satisfaction. The intervening variable is patient perception. Assessment using a Likert scale questionnaire with a value range of 1-5. Descriptive data analysis used SPSS 25 and multivariate analysis used SMARTPLS 3.0. Our 96 respondents are very satisfied with this service but had to wait for a long time until the nurse arrived at home. Our analysis showed that facility variable affects the waiting time so that is affects patient satisfaction. This program has good structure so it makes a good process and satisfaction. Waiting time significantly associated with facility.

LATER-LIFE EXPERIENCES OF VETERANS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS

Abstract Military service is a defining life-course event that is consequential for the well-being of older adults and their caregivers. Although there has been increased attention to veteran status differences in later-life experiences, critical gaps in knowledge persist. This symposium features four presentations that address existing gaps from various perspectives. Kurth and colleagues use data from an online survey of community-dwelling combat veterans. They find that Vietnam Veterans exhibit more PTSD symptoms than veterans in two younger cohorts, and observed cohort differences are explained by military and post-service experiences. Spiro and colleagues examine later-adult trauma re-engagement (LATR) across multiple samples of Vietnam-era veterans and find that there is variation in LATR by gender and warzone experience. London and colleagues analyze data from adults aged 50+ in the 2021 National Health Interview Survey and find that: non-combat and combat veterans have more difficulty remembering/concentrating than nonveterans; hearing difficulty mediates some of the association between military service experiences and remembering/concentrating; and combat experiences moderate the relationship between hearing difficulty and difficulty remembering/concentrating. Haverhals and colleagues assess the Redefining Elder Care in America Program (RECAP) piloted recently in two VA health care centers and find that combat veterans and their caregivers reported shortcomings and challenges associated with program participation even though they were satisfied overall. Collectively, these papers underscore the enduring influence of combat exposure on older adults and the importance of innovative health care service models that are designed to provide support to caregivers. Designing cross‐sector collaboration to foster technological innovation: Empirical insights from eHealth partnerships in five countries

AbstractThis article examines the impact of partnership design on technological innovation in public‐private innovation partnerships. It develops two competing hypotheses on how specific partnership characteristics lead to innovation in health care services. The study compares 19 eHealth partnerships across five European countries and uses fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis to test the hypotheses. The findings show that small, centralized, and homogeneous partnerships are most successful at achieving technological innovation. The study highlights the importance of partnership design in spurring innovation and calls for a reconsideration of some of the underlying assumptions of collaborative innovation theory.

The synergistic effects of air pollution and urban heat island on public health: A gender-oriented nationwide study of China

Under global development and urbanization, the worldwide climate temperature has risen significantly, particularly exacerbating air pollution and urban heat island. Chinese residents are at a high risk of developing various physical and mental chronic diseases. The synergetic effect of air pollution and urban heat island on human health has rarely been identified in the existing literature. This nationwide study aims to investigate how climate change-induced air pollution and urban heat island impact the health of Chinese citizens from a gender perspective. A total of 33,598 Chinese community dwellers from 25 provinces participated in the study. Participants' socioeconomic and demographic information, geographical-associated PM2.5 index, and urban heat island index in the surrounding environment were extracted for both gender groups and included in the random intercept cross-lagged panel model. Results showed that females' health conditions deteriorated when air pollution and urban heat island were worsened, while males' health conditions debilitated with increasing urban heat islands. The improvement in environmental changes has distinctive impacts on the health of both gender groups. Future policies for improving climate change and human health using innovative technology, urban design, and healthcare services should be tailored to address the dispositions and characteristics of different gender roles.

Effects of Robot Animacy and Emotional Expressions on Perspective-Taking Abilities: A Comparative Study across Age Groups.

The global population is inevitably aging due to increased life expectancy and declining birth rates, leading to an amplified demand for innovative social and healthcare services. One promising avenue is the introduction of companion robots. These robots are designed to provide physical assistance as well as emotional support and companionship, necessitating effective human-robot interaction (HRI). This study explores the role of cognitive empathy within HRI, focusing on the influence of robot facial animacy and emotional expressions on perspective-taking abilities-a key aspect of cognitive empathy-across different age groups. To this end, a director task involving 60 participants (30 young and 30 older adults) with varying degrees of robot facial animacy (0%, 50%, 100%) and emotional expressions (happy, neutral) was conducted. The results revealed that older adults displayed enhanced perspective-taking with higher animacy faces. Interestingly, while happiness on high-animacy faces improved perspective-taking, the same expression on low-animacy faces reduced it. These findings highlight the importance of considering facial animacy and emotional expressions in designing companion robots for older adults to optimize user engagement and acceptance. The study's implications are pertinent to the design and development of socially effective service robots, particularly for the aging population.

Unifying India’s Healthcare Markets


 This paper delves into the structure of the healthcare market in India, contending the existence of three distinct markets: the government monopsony market, the institutional market, and the retail market. Each of these markets has unique characteristics in terms of healthcare service provisioning, pricing, and accessibility. We underscore systemic failures resulting from a lack of clarity about the structure of these markets, including disparities in service provision, lack of awareness about available services, and skewed incentives favouring private sector provisioning. We suggest unification of India's disparate healthcare markets, advocating for a more prominent role for the government. The proposed unification is a modification of the school voucher program, aimed at ensuring competitiveness on the supply side, and thereby improving service quality. While acknowledging the challenges of scale and state capacity, we argue that the proposal is worthy of further discussion and research, given its potential to harness the government's purchasing power to improve accessibility, affordability, and promote a competitive landscape that encourages innovation and quality in healthcare services.

Healthcare services efficiency and its intrinsic drivers in China: based on the three-stage super-efficiency SBM model

BackgroundThe purpose of this study is to examine the development of healthcare services efficiency in China since the reform of the healthcare system. By examining the development environment of healthcare services in China and examining the driving factors affecting the efficiency of healthcare services, we provide a reference for the future high-quality development of healthcare services in China.MethodsA three-stage super-efficient slack-based measure (SBM) model with undesirable outputs was used to measure the efficiency of healthcae services in 31 Chinese provinces from 2009 to 2021, and a global Malmquist-Luenberger (GML) index was used to assess their spatiotemporal evolution characteristics and internal influencing mechanisms of healthcare services efficiency.ResultsThe empirical results showed that the efficiency of China's healthcare services changed significantly from 2009–2014 and then remained stable. During the study period, the efficiency of healthcare services in the eastern region was higher than the national level, while it was lower in the western region. The results of the analysis of environmental factors indicated that an increase in population density reduced the redundancy of healthcare input resources and that economic development as well as an increase in government subsidies, contributed to an increase in the redundancy of healthcare input resources. The main contribution to the growth of healthcare sercices efficiency in China came from the technological innovation effect, and the growth was most significant in the western region.ConclusionFrom 2009 to 2021, the efficiency of national healthcare services generally showed a slow upward trend, and the efficiency of healthcare services varied widely among regions. Under the existing environmental constraints, relevant departments in each region should strengthen technological innovation in healthcare services, completely focus on the regional catch-up effect, and promote the balanced development of regional health.

Information technologies and innovations in the service sector: conceptual framework and European enterprises experience

The aim of the article is to identify how information technology (IT) influences innovation in the service sector, and to develop a conceptual framework to explain this process. Based on a systematic review of the literature, a conceptual model for managing IT-driven service innovation has been proposed. It consists of three components related to value creation, delivery and capturing. The theoretical and conceptual considerations are illustrated by examples of service innovations related to the implementation of IT in Europe (including innovations in transport, healthcare services and Fintech). The experience of European companies proves that cooperation with all stakeholders, including the involvement of customers to co-create new solutions is the driving force for creating, delivering and capturing value through innovative solutions in services.

The implementation of value-based frameworks, clinical care pathways, and alternative payment models for cancer care in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Cancer treatment is a significant driver of rising health care costs in the United States, where the annual cost of cancer care is estimated to reach $246 billion in 2030. As a result, cancer centers are considering moving away from fee-for-service models and transitioning to value-based care models, including value-based frameworks (VBFs), clinical care pathways (CCPs), and alternative payment models (APMs). OBJECTIVE: To assess the barriers and motivations for using value-based care models from the perspectives of physicians and quality officers (QOs) at US cancer centers. METHODS: Sites were recruited from cancer centers in the Midwest, Northeast, South, and West regions in a 15/15/20/10 relative distribution. Cancer centers were identified based on prior research relationships and known participation in the Oncology Care Model or other APMs. Based on a literature search, multiple choice and open-ended questions were developed for the survey. A link to the survey was emailed to hematologists/oncologists and QOs at academic and community cancer centers from August to November 2020. Results were summarized using descriptive statistics. RESULTS: A total of 136 sites were contacted; 28 (21%) centers returned completed surveys, which were included in the final analysis. 45 surveys (23 from community centers, 22 from academic centers) were completed: 59% (26/44), 76% (34/45), and 67% (30/45) of physicians/QOs respondents had used or implemented a VBF, CCP, and APM, respectively. The top motivator for VBF use was "producing real-world data for providers, payers, and patients" (50% [13/26]). Among those not using CCPs, the most common barrier was a "lack of consensus on pathway choices" (64% [7/11]). For APMs, the most common difficulty was that "innovations in health care services and therapies must be adopted at the site's own financial risk" (27% [8/30]). CONCLUSIONS: The ability to measure improvements in cancer health outcomes was a large motivator for implementing value-based models. However, heterogeneity in practice size, limited resources, and potential increase in costs were possible barriers to implementation. Payers need to be willing to negotiate with cancer centers and providers to implement the payment model that will most benefit patients. The future integration of VBFs, CCPs, and APMs will depend on reducing the complexity and burden of implementation. A Practice-Proven Adaptive Case Management Approach for Innovative Health Care Services (Health Circuit): Cluster Randomized Clinical Pilot and Descriptive Observational Study.

Digital health tools may facilitate the continuity of care. Enhancement of digital aid is imperative to prevent information gaps or redundancies, as well as to facilitate support of flexible care plans. The study presents Health Circuit, an adaptive case management approach that empowers health care professionals and patients to implement personalized evidence-based interventions, thanks to dynamic communication channels and patient-centered service workflows; analyze the health care impact; and determine its usability and acceptability among health care professionals and patients. From September 2019 to March 2020, the health impact, usability (measured with the system usability scale; SUS), and acceptability (measured with the net promoter score; NPS) of an initial prototype of Health Circuit were tested in a cluster randomized clinical pilot (n=100) in patients with high risk for hospitalization (study 1). From July 2020 to July 2021, a premarket pilot study of usability (with the SUS) and acceptability (with the NPS) was conducted among 104 high-risk patients undergoing prehabilitation before major surgery (study 2). In study 1, Health Circuit resulted in a reduction of emergency room visits (4/7, 13% vs 7/16, 44%), enhanced patients' empowerment (P<.001) and showed good acceptability and usability scores (NPS: 31; SUS: 54/100). In study 2, the NPS was 40 and the SUS was 85/100. The acceptance rate was also high (mean score of 8.4/10). Health Circuit showed potential for health care value generation and good acceptability and usability despite being a prototype system, prompting the need for testing a completed system in real-world scenarios. CRM Capability and Service Innovation in Healthcare: Evidence from India

This study aims to investigate the constituents of customer relationship management (CRM) capability that allows to exhibit customer service flexibility (CSF) and affects innovation in healthcare. In doing so, it qualitatively develops and identify the dimensions of CRM capability through a case study in a public healthcare setting in India and provides a framework of CRM, CSF, and service innovation. The findings of the study suggest that CSF is a mediating mechanism between CRM capability and service innovation which is long ignored in the healthcare literature. The study contributes to theory and practice-oriented knowledge on how the CRM capabilities can improve the public healthcare and facilitates key strategies for flexible deliveries and innovative services.

Indirect effect of open innovation on clinical and economic value creation in digital healthcare: A comparative study of European countries

The study addresses the relationship between open innovation and value creation in digital healthcare services. Previous research has focused on the diverse aspect of digital innovations in healthcare; however, the effect of open innovation on value-based digital healthcare has yet to be explored. We argue that open innovation is context-specific and thus has a fundamentally different effect on value creation in digital healthcare than in other business sectors and also that it can vary across countries. To fill the gap, we applied the structural equation modeling technique with a sample of 184 Lithuanian and Spanish physicians to investigate the impact of open innovation on clinical and economic value creation. Our study confirmed that open innovation indirectly affects clinical and economic value through patient and physician experience. Furthermore, we find that open innovation is context-dependent and performs differently across countries. Finally, we elaborate on the emerging concept of inside-in open innovation.

Digital Service Platform and Innovation in Healthcare: Measuring Users’ Satisfaction and Implications

When it comes to scheduling health consultations, e-appointment systems are helpful for patients. Non-attendance is a common obstacle that many medical practitioners must endure when it comes to the management of appointments in healthcare facilities and outpatient health settings. Prior surveys have found that many users are open to use such mechanisms and that patients would be likely to schedule an online appointment with their doctor if such a system was made accessible. Few studies have sought to determine how well e-appointment systems work, how well they are received by their users, and whether or not they increase the number of appointments booked. The purpose of this research was to collect information that would help executives of a state hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece, to improve their electronic appointment system by measuring the level of satisfaction their patients have with it. The results show that the level of service provided by the electronic appointment system is not satisfactory. The quality of the website is another significant factor that does not contribute to the level of satisfaction experienced by patients.

Responsible innovation in venture creation and firm development: the case of digital innovation in healthcare and welfare services

ABSTRACT The increasing adaptation of digitalisation has engendered numerous venture ideas and entrepreneurial opportunities. Many of these ideas bear the potential to address grand societal challenges. However, perceived opportunities can be elusive, especially in the context of complex problems. Opportunity confidence (OC) can be essential to venture creation and firm development. OC depends on evaluating socioeconomic, socio-ethical, and socioecological factors, which are not straightforward. Responsible innovation (RI) can be a viable approach to building OC. However, whether or how firms and entrepreneurs pursue RI to build OC needs to be clarified. Accordingly, we explore these issues through a case study of nine for-profit firms in digital healthcare and welfare services. The findings reveal that although the firms do not integrate RI principles in innovation and entrepreneurial activities per se, they practice them to varying degrees. This helps them to build OC. The study contributes to theory, practice, and policy.

Mediation Model of Digital Technology Factors Affecting Health Care Service Performance

Healthcare technologies have become a crucial component of healthcare providers' daily operations. Hence, healthcare innovation technologies are being promoted worldwide. Healthcare service technologies are constantly improving necessitates ongoing research to show how these technologies affect healthcare services. Hence, current study investigating the state of innovative digital healthcare service practises in the UAE. It examining the effect of innovative technology on healthcare service performance in the UAE and modelling mediating role of organisational learning capacity in the relationship between innovative technology and healthcare service performance. A structural equation model was developed in SmartPLS software using the data collected of the questionnaire. The model showed that the factors system development, digital services, process integration, and IT base innovations have strong relationship effect to the health care performance. Also, the organisational learning capacity has strong mediation effect on the health services relationship. This research has contributed to current state of literature regarding digital service innovations related to health service performance in the UAE. The results emphasized a critical need for practitioners for promoting developments in digital services impacted the performance of health services.
